Final Fantasy XIV: Most Anticipated Game of 2010
News Discussion « General Discussion 1/09/10 2:59:32 PM
Right now my hype list goes like this
FFXIV>SWTOR>STO>GW2
The last FF game I enjoyed was FFX, I've been looking for a good FF game ever since. SWTOR is something everyone wants, but it feels so far away. STO, I'll be in the open beta soon and that should let me know If I want to keep playing it. GW2? I didn't like GW1 that much but it did have some good qualities. |

World of Warcraft: Rogues Taking it From Behind in Upcoming 3.3 Patch

I can only speak for Assassination spec though. WTB 1min CD ability to move combo points to another target....
Agree with this very much. Someone must have been crying like a little baby that they got beat by a PURE DPS class. |

Champions Online: Play Levels 1-15 Free Forever in New Demo

Things I didn't like about the game:
People can easily take your kills or loot or quest objectives. You only start with 2 powers, and they don't seem that diverse. You can't fly at all in the starter area. People want to be able to see how fun the game can get, and flying is a big part.
I tried the melee class martial artist, he only has like 3 animations. Too bland!

Originally posted by Drachasor I know STO is NPC crews. People here are talking about how disappointing that is (well some of them), but I think there are some very real issues with it. Replacing a guy with an NPC has its own problems. First, the personality will change (if the NPC even has one), as well as ability. On smaller ships it also leaves the question of where that NPC came from (especially if that personality change comes up). Even on the Enterprise, it would be very odd if Picard just disappeared in the middle of something. Also, when doing quests or story-line stuff, doing it when some people aren't around would preclude them from doing it ever unless the quest is oddly repeatable or they join another ship. There's also the oddity of what to do if someone logs in during the middle of something, where they'd have to figure out what the heck was going on, etc, etc. It's a LOT different from guilds on a number of levels for these reasons as solo questing would be pretty hard to do (particularly the higher in rank you are). Also not trivial is what to do if you leave a guild. What does one do with the guildless? What does initial play experience end up like when there are no guilds? If you make a crew all one guild, then it becomes very odd testing someone out in a new position and if you later decide to guild-kick them. In short there are a LOT of issues that might seem small, but they really aren't trivial issues to overcome if you want to make the game experience to be fun and fulfilling. Each and every one of these items plus many more has to be addressed by the game design. Edit: I'm not saying it is impossible, but player crews in a ship-based game (unlike SWG for instance) is FAR from trivial. It's not something you can just slap together and would actually be a very impressive accomplishment. I certainly don't see any readily apparent solutions to the problem (and before anyone says so, "deal with it" is NOT a solution). I think it is perfectly understandable and even reasonable for even a Star Trek game to not try to solve that. There are a lot of problems I have with how STO is shaping up, but this isn't one of them.
Well said. An idea I had is that specific missions would be player crews. Perhaps you and 5 friends all get together on one ship just for a hard quest. It would only last an hour or two max. My eyes hurt from all the walls of text. I was hoping Player Bridge Crews would be in the game at launch, but I found out they would not. I can live with it. It would be fun though, and it would a way to really bond with your crewmates. Thats always been my favorite thing about Star Trek. The Enterprise and Voyager became a family because of all the troubles they went through together. Look at Picard in season 1 + 2. He was a totally different man, stern and afraid to show his feelings. His character grew as he got to know his crew. He began to open up. Tuvok even began to respect Neelix because of all that had happened. This is what you gain from having players as your Bridge Officers. A sense of family, to ensure the well being of your collective. |

Star Trek Online: Open Beta Date Announced!

At first I was thrilled, now I'm "on the fence" due to the ground combat and a few other minor things that bother me. Playing in open beta will let me know if I should get this game or not so i'm excited. |

Some decent ideas, I can't say I'm really looking forward to this new expansion thus far however. |

I tried the game, did the closed beta for 2 weekends. I'd have to say AION reminds me of WoW mixed with Final Fantasy. I love the graphics, and the animations are cool, and flying is fun, and I do like how the game really makes you feel like the hero of the game. The bottom line is, I would not pay $14.99 for this game. They should make it free to play like Guild Wars. I won't be joining at launch and I won't be pre-ordering. No game that has come out in years has really sparked my interest. That said, I do think AION is a fun game and I would play it, if it were not going to be a monthly payment MMO. They could easily make money by selling the game and expansions for the game just like they did with GW.
The graphics are excellent but when the new Final Fantasy, SW:TOR, or STO come out, AION will be in trouble. |

If Bioware Re-Made Pre-CU SWG Would That Be Enough For U?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/19/08 5:52:30 PM
This isn't going to happen, ever. Pre-CU is most likely going to be full of epic fail when the new Bioware MMO is released. |

"As we want to avoid that players are no longer able to play Neocron due to this issue, we will enable all Neocron 2 accounts for free until further notice."
http://www.neocron.com
If you had a NC2 account right now It is active, log on and see how things are going. Don't give up on such a great game. All other MMOs besides EvE and Neocron are total garbage. End of story. |
