Star Wars: The Old Republic: EA Investors' Conference Call Reveals Data
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/02/12 5:15:05 AM
For the 3 non re-subs, I counter with my guilds 27 subs. I win you loose, move along nothing to see here. lol
edit: ok ok, in all seriousness now, I do like the game and will continue to sub along with my guild, we find enjoyment here and those numbers I beleive for a number of reasons, heck we have 3 new players join today from friend recommendations, it will go up and down like any mmo. It was nice to see however more content releasing coming up sooner then I thought. Heck the recent content release was a shocker for all of us playing, we didn't expect anything till mid year. For us at least, we are enjoying the game. Haters can hate, but in the end, more MMO's on the horizon and SWTOR will be a distant memory to most of you. |

A successful SWTOR is bad for the industry
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/02/12 4:35:06 AM
Original post from op. "The problem with the 'hater' vs 'fanboy' debacle is that fanboys tend to look at it from a selfish perspective. THEY are having fun, so consequently the game is great..."
Nail on the head my friends, your right, I could care less if you hate the game I love to play, after all I am playing for my selfish personal needs, not to play to make something popular so it makes you happy. LOL what kind of world do you think you live in? You of course go on to explain that fan boys don't understand your distance for the game they love, but in turn they don't understand your rage against that game they love.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Good Cop, Bad Cop – SWTOR
News Discussion « General Discussion 2/02/12 3:47:41 AM
Eh, I haven't hit this site sense SWTOR release, only now because of a server update. I love it, I love everything about it. The last time I had this much fun was in EQ and DAOC, also being as addictive as then. No MMO sense has done such till now. I have multiple level 50's and my guild is just starting to hit the end content along with pvp. People have complained about being bored already but many as myself still remain. I don't know any MMO that hasn't had this issue thou even WoW did and does. In the end, the argument here about inovation is in the way you see inovation, have I ever played an MMO with so much depth and thought put into the story arc's ? Can't say I have, there have been games that attempted to do so in text based questing, but NOTHING that kept me wanting to play to see the end, nothing. This goes for many of my friends in my guild, we have had this discussion recently on this very topic. Beyond the stories and cut-scenes, the combat is fun and responsive, the graphics are pleasing along with the sound. I enjoyed both aspects of the sith side and reb, from ambiance to just the over-all feel. Everything I mean everything comes down to preferance. For a game that has only been out for a month now, it's probably one of if not the smoothest launch I ever played. (not saying there are no bugs, but it's playable to the end non the less). For me, the invoations are indeed small beyond looking at the "interative story" aspects. But as a person whom' enjoy's the RPG in the MMO this game has it all for me and many others. For some as seen here , it's not for everyone, but then the same can be said about World Of Warcraft, I didn't care for it after a month, but many did. If people where expecting ground breaking concepts in this game, I think they read into something that never was. Everything Bioware put into this game was posted on their website prior to release. There are wishes to be added and ideas no doubt. There was also a new just recently release additional end game conent that was added a month after release. The game needed more end content and it was obvious now that it was in the works prior to launch. For me as a gamer, this is at least good news, that the company understand what it needs to do too keep the game going. In the end, time will tell, but for the moment, they have me as a loyal player , it all depends (just like any MMO) what they do in the future to keep me entertained. For me at least, the initial investment was well worth the entertaiment I got out of it.

All good post, but one never hit exactly....
The reason for the clones? Taking a leap cost money that could be lost in that leap. APB prime example, the idea and concept was great, the execution was not and even after all said and done the devs openly admitted they fell flat and got relaxed once they had a working prototype , key word prototype. Once it started selling pre-orders they where done and never finished the half baked code. Money became tight and people got greedy. World Of Warcraft = Proven Model. Simple as that, in business this is this only thing that will sell. Indi companies can attempt to make something unique, but many players today expect quality. While a unique Indi game might have what players are looking for like sieging that DAOC brought with cumbling walls etc... they graphics and gameplay are expect to be that of a AAA title. Sure indi companies can get a small faithful following, but the only thing that will change this whole genre is when warcraft finally becomes nocraft and no one plays it or any new title that comes out that is like it. I think the author said it best, the only time this will happen is in fact, time... when games that are released with the WoW quality yet fail to get any population or for that matter profit, will the industry finally take a step back and say... "hmm. I think this genre is dead or need inovation, who want's to take the next big chance on a new gamble?" |

Best Review/Overview of SWTOR I've seen.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/16/11 1:56:07 PM
It was a descent review, but parts of it I don't agree with. The replayability by the writer only beleives that it can be done by making alternative toons. The epic instances have multiple outcomes, certain quests (even side ones ) have different outcomes. Prime example, I have a trooper,. my friend has a trooper. When I was helping him on his trooper and I was a smuggler, we came up to a part of a quest where he could report the issue of the corrupt officer or not. He chose to report it, he did so, the dialog basicly says "we will look into these aligations". While on my character, I said I would report it, but never did, then later when I came back, I walked in and was confronted by said officer of questionable allegance. He offered me alternatives and I had the option to "join him" or take the issue into my own hands etc.. basicly , the same class, different outcomes and not all just talk. So I disagree with that assement in this review along with other parts. Those that actually have played the game with others know the differance between solo play and group play, it's night and day in this game. I have done plenty of solo already, but when I group with my friends, the game is a whole new can of worms. Sure I have hit quest I have done before and to be honest, I would watch them if timed allowed, but as with last night, guys had to log soon, we had just enough time to do one more quest, we all seen this one quest before so we just "spacebar" threw it, while previous quest we watched. It all comes down to how fast you grind out this game, alas for us being on evenings daily, we have about 3 toons each, each at level 15 or less. It all comes down to what kind of game you like, to me, this reviewer seems like a WoW fan, not that this is a bad thing, obviously WoW did something right, but alas many people as myself are looking for something "New" and fun, we found it in this game. It all comes down to what one would want in their MMO, however after again reading this review, it seems a bit bias as a good amount of the info is actually wrong. |

I agree, it really is a great game as with other bioware titles. While playing solo, you feel like your in a bioware game, if you group however, that is a whole new experiance in a bioware game. I love the larger quest that need groups, amazing stuff, if you haven't done one yet, make some friends and do them. They are just amazing! |

This is the first MMO I played where the first hour will capture you or not. Meaning that the game shines at the first hour then when you continue your questing. If the first hour doesn't catch you the game never will. Other games in the past I could see this first hour comment, but alas those games had the basic kill grind as most questing is done in MMO's. In this case we have the same thing, but this game emphises is story, if that doesn't do it for you , there really isn't much here. I love the game myself as it is exactly what I wanted in a story based game. What would make it epic is end game open world like swg was. Alas I know this is not the case, but would be basicly 2 games in one. To the OP thou, yup, the first hour on this one pretty much will give you insight to the whole game. Alas I was really impressed by the level 10-12 first time doing a group epic quest, those are by far the best. The way you can effect each other and play them again and have a different outcome is pretty cool indeed. |

PirateLords SWTOR recruitment open (PvP/PvE/Raid/Craft) NA based but we have players from around the world as well
Guild Recruitment « Star Wars: The Old Republic 12/12/11 2:33:19 PM
I didn't even read one post on this thread, probably will after posting, but I am posting because I had to say....
"PirateLords!?" holy crap never thought I would hear that name again. While never part of this particular group/clan, I know the name well. Met many in other titles etc, it's good to see long time guild/clans are still marching strong. See you in SWTOR, hopfully on the same server, but just had to say my "Kudos" to a great outfit that has been around a long time. Me being 40+ now, that says alot :) |

Nice info can't wait! As to the "this is going to suck" crowed. Needless to say, WoW was talked about the same way as this game is. I see it failed really badly o_0, point being, you may want it to fail and beleive it's a bad game. Alas, your wrong , just as I was about WoW. Still hate WoW, never will play it, but it became a smash hit because it was dumbed down, nothing to say but wow, I am shocked to this day that WoW suceeded so well. Eh, one to their own, but never say you speak for a majority, because ... you never do.

Eh, The genre of fantasy is fine even elves, it will long live, it has sense the creation of them to be main stream sense Tolken, but alas the issue is game play. You want a good fantasy? Build a game based on the defense concept. Let players control a town and it's defenses. Have epic seiges, destructable walls. Make the world chaotic as a real world would be. Give AI it's own goals in your world. If the orcs take over the lands because the A.I. dominates due to birth population so be it. It's up to the players to take control of the area. That would be epic. Need to fill quest needs? Script your game to affliate senarios within certain random outcomes. Alas, it takes brains to do a game like this and creativity, but the right team could do it and have WoW 2.0 easy. Personally players (I beleive) want to have a real tie to the world and be able to change things., One can argue that if a full time player does all the work, what can others do? In my mind, the design of the world would be large enough, that no matter how many times the players gather togather to fight off the hordes of (insert mobs here), there are always some that come from other places (underground, sky, water) that take their place. This comes into the concept of an open world enviorment which most developer today don't want to do, but rather do theme parks, but if this world was done correctly. It would be the best out there. DAOC seige was by far the best seiging/pvp system to date. Take that, with the emphases of ownership when guilds held keeps and it was a great combination. Build upon this and add what I mentioned above and you have the new doac/wow combo in my eyes and I think it would be just as popular if not more so then any game released. See minecraft in why people would enjoy such a game. See WoW in why people would enjoy the game. See Dark Age Of Camelot in why people would enjoy the game. Combined this and wala, game of the gods :) Edit; Just to clerify, this article is basicly about hating fantasy because it's been done over and over and elves just happen to be just as bad as gnomes in this regard. I argue, that it isn't the theme, but the world these character exist in, you make the game I described above and elves would be loved by the most hated elf player, they will love to squish them as they seige their cities. Some can say this game is already out, sorry but it is not. You can have seige and the town concept I describe, but what would make this game succeed, would be the AI doing what I noted. Such as if the orcs did infest the land, at a point they would seige towns players own because the town/city is the last thing in their way. Alas, a title sometime ago said it would do all of what I describe. However, due to it's misirable fail and well, lying to it's fan base, I won't even mention the name. |

Awsome Marketing Ploy or just Coincidence?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 11/20/11 1:21:55 PM
Nice post Hazelle, Real informative thank you, but yeah, I just found it as a "lucky sob's" as far as free subtle marketing is concerned. The only reason again I even thou any of this was the push of the show. They have commercial on it on the hour if not less. It would be like seeing some sort of space cartoon show and EVE is promoting something that is right along the same lines. Sure , you can look at many things in our society today and see relations, but alas this one sticks out pretty well, being again the situation I was in when my nephew out of all people mentioned the relationship and said "I can't wait for the warcraft expansion" while watching the show. |

Awsome Marketing Ploy or just Coincidence?
Off-Topic Discussion « General Discussion 11/18/11 8:46:01 PM
My nephew watches Nick channel allot and plays world of warcraft. In the last month or so, the show Kung Fu Panda made re-show (new season) out of no ware. I remember when it was pretty much just lost in the fold for my nephew loved the show and we even bought the videos for him. Now it's back and when I seen the new season I couldn't help but notice that allot of the episodes seems like something out of warcraft. From the learning , fetching questing to other odd things. Eh I could be looking into it as again a coincidence, but then maybe it's one hell of a marketing ploy to get the kiddies hyped up for the expansion. My nephew wanted starwars but as soon as this show started airing again, now all he talks about is the panda expansion for warcraft. If it was a marketing ploy, bravo! For it seems to be working, if not, Nickelodeon should ask for revenue lol. Anyways, I just thought that was an odd thing, what do you think? |

I have never seen sony do ftp correctly and I have no hopes here, I almost had hopes for this game thou (being a huge fan of planetside one) but alas, this F2P with transactions is going to suck. Everytime they do this, SWG prime example, the release items at first that are just "for looks", then it goes to "just buffs" then it goes "animated cool stuff" then it goes "stat enhancment" then "uber item". Sorry, SOE fails at F2P, then again they fail at MMO development, website development, forum and account security... bah not even going to waste another breath on these guys anymore. This almost (almost) made my play one SOE game again , sadly this is the nail in the coffin for me. Way to fail Smedely, then again, thats no shock now isn't it.
Now SOE never did ftp with swg, but I refer to the cards, then again you can pick any SOE game that is ftp and see the same thing mention, I am sure some will ("gulp!*) actually defend SOE , (scary thought) but alas, it should have a duel model but it won't, IE pay monthy for all or micro, then I "might" look into this, but if LoL is something he likes, get ready to see exactly what I posted above, looks..buffs,animations,stats,uber items. You read it here first ! look back 2 years later and stand in awww! ;) |
