I hold my reservations in games that sell land to players too raise funds, 5k for towns and more is just well, crazy... in the end the people left playing are those that are in it now and I don't doubt some will actually join in later (after release), but I just don't see any games like this making much of an impact in the MMO spectrum when balance is the key factor in fun for most if not all players.

Meh I could be wrong, but after my buddy told me he spent that much on this game, I said " good luck " and noted I wouldn't even want to touch it even thou he offered free locations in his town. If you guys that bought into this game like it , great, but nothing I have read to this date makes me think this is going to an MMO I would like to play.

That of course is my personal opinion but allot of these articles or column's on this game never really speak of the game but the players and the developers. Important sure, but nothing that makes me think "well ok that guy owns a city no one will ever own again unless he sells, so where is the advancement structure again?"

The problem with MMO's is you never can be the hero protagonist that they attempt to make a player feel. For there are a thousand others around you that have the same story/hero that you do. Single player games allows a developer to tell a story of you being the main hero while MMO's attempt to portray that but poorly.

MMO's need to change their patency and come up with games that put you in role as a soldier and nothing more, but who would play that then? You could make a dragon age game just like the elders scroll game was made. What was it's number one downfall? You really never effect the world around you nor are you ever unique. You are just another solider like the guy next to you.

MMO's make the worst rpg experiences out there. The only time this medium will ever make it right is when you mix in a controlled environment from both sides of the bench. IE one DM and another party member. Then you "might" get a true rpg aspect as story's can be spun to your individual character and friends while the MMO aspect would be more in town social gatherings.

Personally MMO's have their own nitch I believe, but nothing that will ever bring a single player experience into a mass shared server for you can never be "the one".

If you do not understand how games are developed ... DO NOT PAY FOR PRE-ALPHA OR ALPHA!

The vast majority of systems in early versions of game testing are first run stock systems. They are made to "simply get something in game". They are not there to be reviewed as complete systems and WILL change often dramatically over the development cycle.

If you paid money to test in order to play a game for fun ... you are a complete and ignorant fool. This is not the time for review and is why most games have an NDA. This is not to hide anything. It is because the game is not a reflection for the future complete product. The game can still stink when finished but ignorance toward development cycles falls complete on the laps of the investor who expects otherwise.

If you are here complaining this early in development instead of providing constructive feedback to the developer you are nothing less than painting the words "I am an fool" on your face.

In other words keep donating suckers, you might not believe what I am saying but you will believe a lie. "IF" this forum was actually the "official" alpha forums I might be with you on your post, but this is not , this is by far the most open forum you will get on opinions on many games (mostly MMO's) . People rack the members on this site for trolling, fact is most of the trolling is spot on in every game in the last few years. Sell your Kangroo Jocky Shorts in some other website, it won't work here, the sad thing about this title is , it's just another doomed money grab that will hurt actual legit titles trying to be made.

You can preach and pray that people will believe the garbage being thrown out by the company and the fans, but no matter what, one thing is always the truth. The action of said company or development house , it's like a guy in game saying " I never kill anyone in a pvp environment" yet his actual score says otherwise. Believe the lie or believe the action, that's the choice and to be blunt the actions of this development house pretty much says where this "supposed" game is and will be.

Throwing a bunch of bought assets and code doesn't make a game, it makes a foundations of crap that has no cohesion, hell even the "None official" forums has people speaking of the shitty this or that and how it makes no sense. The only downfall of all of this is people actually bought into a lie, how sad indeed.

When a game sold off as "original" and "inspiring" use bought modular graphics and data to make a prototype and sell that as something new and inspiring you know something is wrong and to be perfectly frank anyone that bought into this title never did much digging to figure those things out. Sorry, but this is one of those, "GL hope whatever you do get to play is fun, for that is the game you are playing as is". Bold statement sure, but actions speak louder then any words, sorry even the website looks like it was done by some kid in a basement.

Been playing the alpha for awhile now and to the OP I know (with your comments ) you will enjoy this game very much so. I however do want to clarify something's you mentioned that are actually not exactly right....

- The game is in alpha for north America, it is actually live else were for over a year now (you probably know this) but most of what you see won't change, our changes are only rule sets and them finishing the English translations, for instance all voice acting atm is still in Korean and so are all cut scenes.

- What they can change are rules on how things work, not the actual workings of the game. For example, the limited the "time in jail" aspect, it was recently reduced.

- They (Trion) changed the way packs will work, over-seas the new implementation only allows for coin collection (not gold) in pvp to safe zones run. Our guess here is XL is trying to get more pvp action going on those servers. The worry here is Trion is making the US servers a bit more pve then pvp. However, (personal opinion) I believe it will work out just fine.

What I do worry about thou is oversea players jumping ship too our server rules. To be honest, I don't see how XL can back up these changes, it's going to happen as the cry's of unfairness are abound on the Russian/Korean servers due to these changes that we won't have here. Will be interesting to see how this all turns out, but does again worry me some on my somewhat large investment up front for the game.

Finally housing is pretty open but not as much as your saying, there are location where housing can go so indeed we are a bit "limited" where this can happen. However, it is not an instance or a separate part of the game. It is in the actual main game play areas and in this you would be correct. But just like swg, their where limited places you can place things. However, in AA those places make more sense then say swg placement was. Also housing will ONLY be allowed for montly paying customers, free to play won't get this option. Arguments on this topic are many as half the game is actually owning land, but in the end there is definitely plenty more to do without land, (haven't owned land in alpha yet but helped a friend out) I have been doing plenty without it, thou I do love making ships and you need land to do that or a friend that has land.

Anyways, most of what you did say is pretty much spot on. AA is definitely the new sand box/ open world game , the nay sayers will jump on board., I have to admit it, sense swg and daoc, nothing has come this close. I thought ESO pvp was dam fun till I learned about the vet grinds in that game and could see what the future would be beyond the initial r10 (which surprise they now raised) , so it had promise but nothing like AA.

I can also be pretty confident the game I am playing now in AA is AA, being it's been out now for multiple months in other countries, our difference again is change in rules sets and languages, beyond that thou, it is AA as is.

I enjoy the fact we are getting TRION's anti-cheat system. While not pervious it helps allot, so much so they actually perm-banned alpha players who bought the game at 150.00, that says allot about their thoughts on cheating in AA. That alone makes the game worth playing, however I have another worry in this department. Being it's so easy to mask IP's and other system specs and this game is free to play, it will be a endless non-stop pursuit of banning repeatable offenders. While this game out of all free to play pvp type games will be best to handle it, I still think there will be issues even with the built in player judgment system. Time will tell how this part goes thou.

What my preference would be to be honest is a paying server and free-to-play servers. I have yet to see a company willing to gamble on this concept, but I bet the first one that does will see a huge incline in subs. Just saying.

Anyways, enjoy it when it does come out thou, it's a blast!

PS. the word is btw beta soon!

No clue what the OP is ranting about, we don't have any such issues in AA and I see no threads coming up about hacks or bots. Hell even the prison system would come back to haunt you if enough people think your hacking, But if writing threads like this makes those that don't have a job feel better, so be it.

Heck, from what I can tell, more Russian and other players are coming to the Trion version just because of the anti-hacking in the game, many have stated so.

yup no issues here as well, got me , something on his end im guessing as well.

I see you're already regretting your purchase on another thread the dupe one. You should have let this thread run for at least a couple of days instead of buying the game after an hour. Well take some comfort in knowing the game will probably improve in the months to come even if you cannot get your refund  though you tried getting it back from G2A.

Assuming that they even bought it or started the thread in good faith.  Losing it over something like the dupe issue so quickly is a massive red flag.

The dup bug should only bother you if you are in competition with other players, if you are, then MMO's are definitely something people should not play. You will NEVER be better then the next guy, accept that and you will love MMO's, don't and you will hate everyone of them.

The best people I have seen play (Those that reach top rank) do their own best and could careless what the rest do, people follow their lead after. Others as myself do dam well in MMO's even in pvp and while pvp is considered "Being better then the other guy", I look at it as "did I do my best?" yup, ... if the game mechanic screws up balance I might have issue, but dup exploits? I could care less, does this allow my foe to get better gear? Maybe, but doesn't mean they are a better player for it.

As long as the base mechanics of the game can't be cheated, I am all good when it comes to issues in MMO's, you have to take them with a grain of salt or as the OP you will rage quit the world.

yes on swg, meh on the community, I can identify 10 people just thinking about it now that want to pvp badly but LOVE the pve (me being one) , so even those in pvp are saying the numbers are actually low. My point, the game just came out, give it time :) we will be there soon enough!

The idea to allow switching between campaigns and to have a "mega server" is probably one of the worst things they did for this game. It just means the losers quit and join a different campaign. It's awful, and no one has any identity. Your allies are never the people that you PvE with.

But, its the closest to DAoC that we've gotten in 10 years.

Er, no. ONE former Mythic employee, Matt Firor. Most of Mythic is either a part of City State Entertainment now (Camelot Unchained) or have bee swallowed by EA

my bad, meh just saying you can easily see daoc in this game.

well you could have multiple factions on daoc, just not on the same cluster , people got around that having multiple accounts, remember healer buff bots? or just jumping servers.

Anyways, I do agree that the megaserver concept pretty much nills the idea of never jumping sides, but at least as you said, the actual rvr is definitely DAOC rvr.

Bah didn't even need to go past the first page,

This game is dead on for DAOC rvr. Why? The same devs made ESO so yeah allot of common ground right there, the actual mechanics are pretty much dead on along with size of the keeps, landscape and more.

Finally the OP compares the community to the mechanics and sorry OP , but if this is your argument too why people need to stop comparing it's a sad one. Communities change constantly, DAOC had at "times" a good standing community, there where plenty of times we have had guild/factional jumpers as spy's and more and those conversations in the forums in IGN where nothing but flaming wars.

I even doubt you played DAOC, allot of this is general knowledge for the actual long time players of DAOC, your augment is moot.

Meh, i wouldn't get to hyped about getting  a bite from any form. There are really no downfalls from having said bites and knowing MMO's with nerf bats, there will be (sooner or later) a big negative for all the positives they provide atm. It's the way of an MMO. Not to mention the lore dictates that there are negatives and at the moment their are really none.

edit: oh and i hate to say it, but it's the "I want it now syndrome"

Best site for add-ons...

1. SkyShards

Is a must anything else is ok, don't get the mini map, tried that doesn't work right ;)

Lots of pissed of guildies right now.

Sort of sad.

Zenimax does not seem like they were ready for this - their apparent inexperience/unreadiness in running a AAA MMO is showing right now.

Sorry to sound so bitter - but I am pissed off, as we had grand plans for tonight, and it's just been miserable.

ROFL don't play MMORPG's then specially at launch because you will just end up raging. WoW for instance was down for hours at a time for almost a month after launch.

Why does everyone forget that GW1/2 exist and have had less downtime in their combined existence of 10+ years than ESO in a single week?

False, GW1 had a 24 hour downtime in 2010.

Exactly - people are saying WoW's servers were down - well not ALL of them at once.

Huge difference.

Not all of ESO's servers are down, EU is still up and playable. Besides, IIRC, WoW goes down EVERY Tuesday for maintenance, all servers, at least when I was playing.

Nothing against my over-seas brethren, but I could care less. If this was any other title, the % chance are smaller due to multiple servers. Hell even when sim city (that lovely piece of crap I bought) had server issues galore, they where smart enough to rotate servers out, just saying , I get it , but for me I would like to play the game I paid good money for , this thread emphasis that point, if it continues on like this (that's a big IF) I will be one among others I am sure, that won't go beyond the month, why should I invest time into a game I can only play on weekends that is up only part of the time I can play ?

What your definition of acceptable and mine are different, to me it's all about me and my friends in the guild. Self centered ? Sure, I bought it with my hard earned money , I would like to play on the evening I have time to do so. Beyond tonight I had Friday evening and maybe I will be lucky to get some time on Sunday, but back to work on Monday and other obligation.

Maybe to the younger people without the pressures of bills and others relying on them to give them electricity and more this is not an issue, for me and others I am sure it is. Meh stuff happens, I don't hold a grudge, as noted by the OP this just doesn't bold well for the company and my opinion of them  atm. If it keeps up, I will most likely move on.

This is a very key factor , sadly it's a bad one and a good one. If the tech works, best idea ever, if not worse idea ever for the reasons you describe.

For me it's not about the money, if this is a one time deal or only here and there I won't have a problem, however if it is like other games I have played that have weekly weekend downtimes I definitely wouldn't sub after the free month, why? Because my interest will be peeked elsewhere when I have game time I want to game then, not on their time sorry.

Shit happens no doubt and this is not the first MMO to have this happen nor the last I am sure, but for me I know this is how it goes so it's probably safe to some what say others feel the same. In the end it only hurts the company not me, I can do something else (as others have said on this thread)  and would most likely if this becomes a weekly event for more then 3 weeks.
