CBM, you must not have been paying attention when Bush got re-elected and ALL of the right was saying that conservatives had won a referendum to do any and everything conservative. That "the people have spoken" and W had been given carte blanche. And then the idiot Republicans went bonkers and started acting like fiscal Democrats and social Nazi's, it was embarassing as a conservative.
And it is comparable. Why? Because before Obama, the biggest spending President was Bush... |

Vent is great for games which you need to have fixed access, but it is not where you want to have open access. Plus, she wasn't only referring to voice comms.
And I agree with her. I want to have a voice client which I can use in any game I play and invite whom I please at the push of a button (for either them or me) or a short command. |

We really should look at updating this list since it hasn't been touched in 3 years....
The sad part is, short of adding AION, Rift, and a couple other games that are still surviving, the list hasn't changed much. |

Can this game do anything other than be disappointing?
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/21/11 9:46:14 AM
I can guarantee one fact:
Those that are disappointed will scream much louder on these forums than those that are happy come release.
I will predict something too:
Those that are disappointed, or predicted disappointment (like the OP), will point to the whining on this forum as evidence and proof, when in fact it won't be.
My point? MMORPG.COM is known throughout the game industry as one of the most negative and flaming sites for comments on mmorpgs. |

Oh, I agree, there can be a very big discrepancy in what is "malnurished" versus what I was saying about death by malnutrition.
And I do agree that there is a problem with how the left portrays the state of our youth. I will say that I observe this behavior on a daily basis with children's nutrition and feel the problem still lies on parents, not the government to intervene. The left will lead you to believe that these parents don't know better and need "help." My observation is that the parents do know, and yet choose out of convenience (laziness) to allow their children to have unhealthy lifestyles and nutrition intake. These same parents, when given "help" and not directly monitored continue back to their old ways, except now with my tax dollars having been wasted on them.
I'm going to go off on a tangent....
The question for me becomes:
At what point does my own personal belief in man's fundamental duty to assist those in need get replaced by the requirement of others to take responsibility for their own actions (or inaction) and suffer the consequences? And at what point do we, as a society, override someone suffering the consequences for the greater good of the society economically, socially, medically, etc?
Example: An obese family of four, two parents and two children. The parents cannot work due to medical requirements and therefore are on welfare, blue cross, etc. The children are growing up to follow their parents path and become an equal strain on society without ever having contributing to society economically, short of draining funds.
Do we, as a society, ever reach the point where we do not care for this family? Should we have started caring for them in the first place? |

Just FYI.
At 25, you are not an "older" mmorpg player. No offense, but the average age for all mmos is around 26 by some studies. Depending on the game you play, that average tends to go up and down. First generation games like UO, AC, EQ, and DAOC tend to have average ages in the range of 40 at this point in time. WoW tends to sit on the average with it's broad subscriber base.
To your question: A WoW clone is exactly what it sounds like. A fantasy based mmorpg that has a themepark questing system for level advancement of character classes which are static. Generally to get truly labelled as a clone there needs to be some visual or functional similarity with WoW in regards to artwork, combat, user interface, etc. |

No, the leading cause of death is malnutrition globally. I mean, it's not like you can construe some strange definition of death by malnutrition. Question#1: When was the last time this dead child ate? Answer: Never.
What are you saying, that because the actual instant that the individual died, it was caused by cardiac arrest or something, that a malnutritioned individual should be counted as a cardiac arrest? |

You know, I saw the congestion tax for the first time on Top Gear, and nearly went bonkers. What a load of shit...
It was the one when they had the car, public transportation, a bicycle and a boat race from one side of London to the airport. |

Guild Wars 2: Kicking Combat Up a Notch
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/19/11 11:47:05 PM
Really? Up a notch? Maybe I have been watching different videos, but it doesn't seem to be all that much of a notch. Think about it, people have been using movement as a means to improve their survival in mmorpgs since mmorpgs came out. So you don't have to stop for 0.5 - 2.0 seconds it takes to cast a spell, fire an arrow, or whatever. Big deal.
As if for some reason having unrestricted movement makes the game more tactical. I contend that when you had to actually time spells and actions based on their movement restrictions, the game was more tactical. But yay, now I can move and cast spells in GW2 but still have to contend with global cooldown timers. Oh, and the overwhelming domination of ranged classes in pvp that this type of ability promotes in a game that has auto-targetting.
Lastly, someone mentioned earlier that FPS style games have their own issues with combat that become monotonous after continued use. No different than EQ's original point, click, auto-attack, yawn technique. Bottom line: as much as I like GW2 concept, it is overhyped and will get hurt by that overhype... |

Perpetuum is excellent for what it is, and honestly does it a little better than what EVE did at it's start. When I played, they took a lot of what works in EVE and made it work on the ground, and I like that. Overall though, the general gameplay aspect of PO is exactly the same as EVE, which has always left me kind of, "meh." I think they did a good job though and hope they continue to grow the game. It doesn't matter if it is a clone, EVE is the de facto sci-fi sandbox out there and it's good to have another for some competition. |

Anyhow, I wrote about 3 responses to you before I settled on the one I wrote and still realize it didn't convey anything notable. I had run out of time for writing a response and had to post what was in the browser. Again i am pressed for time, but I will say that in between some of the normal bickering, there are some insightful answers to your questions in other posts. |

Why are a significant amount of Americans so right wing compared to other Western countries?
Religion & Politics « General Discussion 7/11/11 7:49:13 PM
First, if you think anything said in R&P represents anything but a minority, you are wrong. Nearly everyone who posts here with any regularity is extreme to left or right. There are very few moderates in this forum anymore. I'm sure a few will chime up, "I'm moderate," but if you look deeper into their history, you will find they are heavily leaning one way or another.
Second, the US was founded on religion and much of it's history is generated through the evolution of religion in the US.
Third, the Tea Party is a minority. It has large numbers but it is very fragmented and without organization except on some very minor levels. Just look up the Green Party, which while still in existance, is barely mentioned in politics anymore.
Lastly, you're blatently trolling with your last paragraph. The rest of the post was plain condescension when paired with the last paragraph. I wouldn't classify the US as being laissez faire capitalism, and calling our politicians "Jesus freaks" shows your true colors. |
