Each death could stack up and at some point lead to a mental derangment (schyzophrenia, multiple-personalities, phobias..) that would have a permanent effects on the character, but could symptoms could be avoided by drug use or whatever,.. :> |

Small groups of players going into instanced places to search for clues, mythos, trying to avoid combat as much as possible (hava a fixed static XP for the whole quest, and no XP from killing) and one large town (arkham). Indeed there wouldn't be any PvP. A game like this if handled correctly would be fantastic. |

There are some rumours going on around about Turbine's new MMORPG is going to be Call of Cthulhu MMORPG fp2 with microtransactions. Anyone has any further information about this or it's just completely made up? |

No that is WoW. WoW had no additional or original features. If you can name me one, I can change my mind. Because everything from battlegrounds, leveling solo content, no death penalties, combat, crafting.. was done in AC2 the same way. WoW just brought 40 mil$ into marketing before release which was more than the whole Lotro development. That's why Lotro initially sold maybe 400 copies and WoW like 2 milion (during first 3 months). Even AoC, WAR spent much more on marketing and ad than Lotro -> therefore their sales numbers went up to 1 mil cca. That's the power of marketing and adv, if you dont believe in it, you're dumb no offense. Not every company has so much money to spend on adv like Blizzard. Turbine is much smaller company.
The King of MMORPG is Wow - like it or not. Because of the sheer PAYED subscription number. Just like Elvis or the Beatles were the first to hit the millions in rock and roll and British pop music. LotrO came out 3 years AFTER the King was launched and brought NOTHING new. Where are the flying mounts in LotrO, Where are the underwater worlds? Where are the Siege battles, where are the Catapults and destructable Keeps. Where is the constant phasing and changing worlds depending on the quest you do in Lotro. NADA. Nothing nowhere to be found. Not even fishing was in it before this year. 600 people on a world wide website that voted with alt accounts just made mmorpg.com looks like a fool these days.
Heh mate, again no offense. But you're fanatically insane :) Just as you named these things, I could name you 10 other things Lotro has and WoW doesn't. Which actually proves these games are not that similiar. If you say it's a king of MMO, then I wonder why are other wow fanboys so pissed when WoW is being called McDonald or Britney (King of fast foods, king of popmusic,...) If the term king is only referred to.. how many people are subscribed to it, then indeed you can't avoid being compared to everything else in the world which is being the most popular in its genre. |

And LotrO is indeed a boring lifeless copy cat of that King because it was published 3 years later without any added value.

Lifeless copy cat clone... are you talking about WoW? If anything Lotro copies Asheron's Call 2 in everything from UI, throught world design, engine, combat, thousands of quests, tons of solo content, no death penalty,.... And If I recall it right AC2 was way before WoW was released. If your analogy is right then WoW is actually that lifeless copy cat clone of AC2. |

Why hasnt this game been reviewed by any major magazine or website ?

Exactly its not Aventurines fault the mainstream gamming press are not covering Darkfall, we should all really be criticizing the corrupt and unreliable gaming magazines and websites who are obviously refusing to give Darkfall the fair and honest coverage it deserves. Aventurine have given people every opportunity to see Darkfall for themselves, they even invite anyone interested to visit their offices when ever they can spare the time, and give beta access to journalists and websites. I agree, what the mainstream gamming press should really be doing at the moment, is covering all the allready available information about the amazing and revolutionary features that have been demonstrated by Darkfall, that will help save Aventurine even more time to work on the game. Darkfall is the most highly anticipated MMO at the moment, its scandalous that it is not getting the media attention it deserves despite Aventurines best efforts to be as open and honest about their game as possible.
Its simple and directly related to the amount of money a company spends on advertisment. I believe they didnt get as much from EU fonds nor government for that purpose. If Tasos said in one of the interviews that they spent 20$ mil on the development (which is a joke sum in compare to major releases) you can't be surprised it doesn't have enough attention. Noone was paying attention to EVE online before release either, and still it growed. Darkfall can go the same way if its good (just the progress of customers will rise up faster than before due to larger consumer;s base). |

GOOD GREIF IT TAKES A TRUE IMBECILE TO THINK THIS WAY. COME ON PEOPLE USE YOUR COLLECTIVE HEAD.
You should use it then too. It costs a lot of money to get a space in every major gaming magazine and website around the world. It costs money to put on banners on websites, get on touch with a good distribution company etc. This game costed less than the marketing/adv budget of games like WAR, AoC, or WoW. Officially announced was 20$ mil for the development cost of Darkfall which is definetly less than 40$mil adv/marketing cost of WoW. |

Marketplace yes, that contains quests for levels 3 to 5. But each level in DDo is divided into 4 sub-levels and at each level and sublevel you get customization options. You probably refer to these sub levels then :p |

Originally posted by Nafunieru Are you sure you played it at launch? The game was capped at level 10 at the time of the release and a few months afterwards. Anyway, I still think DDo is the best PvE game out there. The dungeons are as close to the original pen and paper atmosphere and it's one of the few games out there that is quite unique and still getting frequent and regular updates. |

MoM, mob placement (good or bad like in Angmar?)
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 1/08/09 10:11:01 AM
Even in old angmar (pre-revamped one) you didnt need to fight every mob out there. I always just ran through without any real issues. Yes there is a short train of mobs, but the mob follow distance is pretty short in Lotro. And tell me, what did you expect from Moria? Moria is supposed to be one of the most dangerous places in ME. You want it to be a walk in the park? There are some empty long halls and corridors, but also there are places full of orcs and goblins that slow you down and dismount you on one hit. These places are not supposed to amuse you, they are there to improve the atmosphere of the place, if you want a walk in the park in every zone then I guess you have to look elsewhere. There will be always some zones in Lotro where you won't pass as easily as you want. |
|

If anyone says that crafting in Moria is good for you money, he automatically loses all credibility. They are going to actually give improve crafted items soon, because atm they are mostly crap. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist You can't simulate a dangerous environment in a game like Lotro any other way. If you keep roads safe and make points of interests full of mobs, it will be a theme park like Shire. Is this the way you want it to be? I don't. In fantasy-"reality" you could probably travel for 6 hours, and then get ambushed by a group of angmarims that would kill you and rob you from all your possessions. How do you want to simulate such a situation in Lotro? |
