Well color me impressed. Loving the art design already. Quite close to what we see in KOA:Reckoning but also clearly indicates the fact that time has passed (Since Copernicus is set thousand years or so after Reckoning).

This looks, beautiful for the lack of words. Hopefully we will soon learn something about the game itself too.

I after i played D3 beta ai was heavily disappointed by how shallow the game is. Last night i got into Torchlight 2 beta and i was blown away. It is all D3 should have been and more + the 20$ price tag makes it a bargain.

THIS. MY thoughts exactly.

D3 feels like watered down casual world of warcrafty storyfest.

Path of Exile and Torchlight II will be my ARPG choices of the year.

Its quite ironic too. I can spend 20 bucks on TL II instead of 60+ on diablocraft 3 and play TL1(as a bonus from preordering TLII), TL2 and POE(which is free) AND save up around 40$ more WHILE getting a whole lot more enjoyment than from diablocraft's horribly streamlined gameplay.

I know the Templar use Agartha...but, don't the other factions use something different?

Agharta is bassically a hollow earth. (read up on it on wiki).

Its a concept that there's an entire  continent INSIDE earth leading to the core.

Everyone uses it.

So they'll have their 4th edition D&D CRPG out right about... what? When D&D 5th edition launches?

Honestly, 4th ed is about only one DnD edition that can be properly "ported" to MMO gameplay.

Well this is Bethesda's TORtanic/TORcraft, i guess.

IF already streamlined and  uninspired Skyrim did not kill them for me, this will..

Oh well, back to re-playing Morrowind.

I did play TL1 and rly enjoy it. I will probably get TL2.

Anyone has any info about multiplayer ? Will it be open/close like old ? I think game have potential but I am concerned about editing save to add atribiutes and/or items cuz it will pretty much destroy game in for everyone.

Are they going to support some multiplayer servers ? or it will be LAN only ?

LAN is there.

AS well as multiplay servers.

game is capable of being modded to allow of hundreds of players co-op :)

This game will beat out D3 just you wait and see.  T2 has the talent behind Diablo 2 behind it, and talent beats out money any day of the week.

That's hilarious.  The  Torchlight games are just tech demos to make money while they build their MMO.  I'm sure there will eventually be so good mods but that's about it.  I may try it when I get sick of D3.

TL2 could of made a dent if it released last November.  At this point they're not going to be much competition for D3 unless D3 is terrible.

Oh but dear, from everything that seen D3 IS terrible and diablo-in-the-name-only. :)

I'd rather play a competent TL2 than rmt-driven online-only single-player world of warcraft :)

so many graphics fanbois here. :/

This looks awesome and atmospheric. Whats more, different.

I would rather have this art style for cinematic than pesky high-heeled demon-huntress running against things that look like they crawled out of world of warcraft.

This on other hand looks different. Has identity. has a soul. Unlike Blizz's newest diablocraft .

[quote]Originally posted by Fion I mean you cant even tell what class he is playing. Horrible horrible turn of events for the Neverwinter franchise.

Really I thought its quite clear its rogue.

I'm so disappointed with this PAX East reveal. When this game was announced it was to be a true 4th edition D&D game. The FIRST 'true' 4th edition game. We had so many fantastic  1st, 2nd and 3rd edition PC games over the year, some more accurate than others but they all at least resemble the PnP game. But for some reason, the edition of D&D that is perhaps most easy to adapt to a game, from the clearly laid out rules to the heavily tactical combat (it's what 4e does right after all).
Instead we get these blasted action RPGs where the only thing that resembles D&D are the names of the classes and the locations. Everything else has completely been changed. The combat is utterly different, the games mechanics are completely changed.
Some might say 'it's because 'classic' style RPGs just don't sell anymore'. But that is simply not true. Dragon Age: Origin, perhaps the last of the 'classic western RPG' has sold more than any other Bioware game, up to 5 million as of last count. That is nearly TWICE sales of any other game they've ever made.
So come on game developers. Quit screwing around with D&D and make a proper 4th edition game. The LAST thing we need is yet another 'you press a button and something awesome happens' action-RPG. Let alone a damn hackneyed MMO!

the 4th edition combat and skill systems seem to be in place.

The whole DM and dungeon designing seems to be in place.

Levels, while spread out through more, seem to be exactly like in 4th ed.

Everything ELse we do not know enough to judge, but so far it seems pretty damn faithful.

Poor mans TERA
General Discussion « RaiderZ

Actually I'd say TEra is poor man's raiderz.

Raiderz has far more well implemented combat, (almost) classless gameplay, more interesting open world and a taste of Monster Hunter(a huge plus).

ALL Tera has is combat(which is not even that great and is certainly NOT fluid). Raiderz from the alpha test and PAX, seems to offer so much more.

GW2, TERA, Neverwinter...
Looks like tab-targetting and standing still is finally going the way of the dodo...thank goodness.

To be honest this game had it before the aboved mentioned games.I actually think the combat system in RaiderZ pips Tera at the post, the mobs have better AI as well.

Hmm, just went into beta...I'll keep an eye out.

Raiderz seems to be a mix of Tera(but done infinitely better) and Monster Hunter in a sandboaxy open world environment.

Me likes.

This really is Cryptic's last chance and because of this I believe they will not drop the ball. To much riding on this one with the epic IP and all. We shall see.

I'd say this is Cryptic's first real chance at all.

Champions was decimated by Bill Roper (of Hellgate fame)

Atari has been known on "making fast bucks" and in that way killing game franchises. AT least 3/4ths of Age of Conan debacle rests of Atari investors forcing FC to rush the game out, for example. So STO was screwed from the start.

From the details available, Cryptic folks have been VERY limited under Atari's thumbs, with pretty much non-existent budget.

PWE it seems pretty much came to them and said "here's a buttload of money, make and polish game greatly and develop it as long as you want" (as indicated by Neverwinter getting delayed by a year last year)

I will judge Cryptic by Neverwinter. Its their first real chance to prove that they can make great games.

5 man raiding = no raiding. How can this possibly qualify as an MMO when the biggest multiplayer thing you can do is 5 man content?

5man parties is pretty much staple of DnD campaigns. They did say that they will have BIGGER things with more people, but the focus isto polish and put out the content indicated by title. :)

Release date?

If you listen to the video in the article it says that beta is  "possibly" somewhere mid 2012 and release in late 2012, with PVP content "expansion" In early 2013

Im so sick of devs making the same tired cartoony graphical style. One day Im going to wake up and 5 new mmo's will have be announced that day where the graphics and gameplay is more realistic.
Seriously Devs. After GW2 and Neverwinter and whatever the hell else is already on the books, please grow some.

Really can't see anything that cartoony about Neverwinter's art style. Seems quite a realistic one. Certainly more realistic than GW II and even GW II i would not dare to call "cartoony".

- Explains how combat works.
- We can see the daily power of trickster rogue.
- Most of PVP features will be implemented shortly after launch. If game launches late 2012, then PVP stuff comes early 2013.
- It assures that there's a huge persistent open world to play in and not everything is instanced.
- Party size is 5.
- While there dungeons are solo optimized, game is about grouping so there is content designed to be taken on as a team.
- The game is 100% faithful to the most recent neverwinter campaign and salvatore books.
- The game has been developed in close contact with WoTC(weekly phonecalls and discussions on game decisions). WoTC in fact used some of ideas of Neverwitner mmo in their pen and paper franchise to set up the place for the mmo

True, however Cryptic are Cryptic. They'll dumb it down MUCH further if at all possible to meet their "Target Gold Date". They've said numerous times internally & externally that their Engine allows them to product MMOs at an alarming pace compared to 4-6 yrs of other companies (they once claimed they could produce a "Quality" product in as little as a year).
Cryptic doesn't care about Polish. Cryptic doesn't care about the fans. Cryptic has never cared about quality of content relative to the market or franchise they're representing. What Cryptic has always cared about is money & proving they can be the "fastest" to produce an MMO product that people will pay for.

Except that this has been in development at least for five years. And so far everything seems to be quite faithful to teh lore of the 4th edition campaign and the rulesets of 4th edition campaign(that while being utterly horrible for pen and paper games, seem to lend themselves quite well for action mmorpg game).

Except that STO seems to be going into a very right direction now that Cryptic actually has a budget and no longer has Bill Roper and Atari.

Except that the game was delayed for a year to give it more polish. And the video quite clearly shows quite polished level of animation quality and design.

omg, the whole disappearing and reappearing behind mobs thing is so old.  Somebody friggen figure something else out.  Lame.

Considering the person in the video played a Rogue I just don't see on how else that would be done.

stand alone co-op rpg from what I read.. Vault had an article saying it would be released in 2011,  looks like they are still working on it.  Competition for D3 I would guess.  But... is a link to a f2p mmo called Neverwinter. So either co-op or mmo.  edit: it says: Neverwinter is scheduled to be released in the 4th Quarter of 2012

It was supposed to be that before Cryptic was bought by PWE. Once that happened, PWE pumped quite a lot of money into cryptic and pretty much forced them to delay and work on Neverwinter for one year longer.

Now it has the open-world city of Neverwinter and a mix of instanced dungeons and open world public areas/zones/dungeons of gameplay.

While the game looks good, and I like neverwinter, I got some concerns on this one I would have perfered seeing an open world we don't really need another d&d thats only a dungeon runner thats what ddo is and they are doing a neverwinter themed xpansion.
The other thing is I hate cryptic there worse then funcom. Being this game is f2p as well i'm sure we will be seeing some wonderful cash shop via there PWI overlords now.

There is an open-world gameplay(zoned most likely) and not just dungeons, if the preview articles are anything to go by. Its all focused on rebuilding and resettling the city of neverwinter and the cataclysm stroke it(going by 4th ed. campaign). So you travel through those areas encountering stuff and solving stuff and etc. Also in terms of gameplay there's the whole player-created campaigns, dungeons and quests(which I am not surprised of since the game has Neverwinter in its title), with almost unnoticeable transition from the game world into them.

Originally they planned to only have the dungeon-running kind of stuff, but now the overworld stuff has been added too.

My main criticism from what I've seen is that this looks to be an action RPG somewhat in the same line with TERA. I guess I was hoping for a more traditional RPG feel to combat for Neverwinter.

It seems Cryptic has very closely stuck to the lore and actually managed to adapt the DnD 4thed gameplay mechanics into a computer game.

Shift is the dodging skill, while Q and E are the encounter powers you have chosen from those you have unlocked, while Daily Powers are built up in form of rage meters and have bigger cooldowns, instead of its pen and paper counter-part.

both PCGamer and IGn articles seem to suggest that there's a lot of focus on strategical gameplay(resorting to various spells has its own situational strengths and weaknesses and synergies)

The IGN and Masively previews also imply that its more of horizontal progression in that advancing and leveling up allows you to chose more "varied" skill deck.
