This is VERY VERY VERY good.

The storyline of Spec Ops:The line has been one of the best and most disturbing stories told in games.

If someone still has not played it, they should.  its very good at getting an emotional response from you, as well as showcasing the things games like Call of Duty glorify, for what they truly are.

2 things:

i have run across contradicting information concerning OWPVP and whether it is game wide or if there are a continent or two that do not have PvP.

secondly, does anyone have any links or info on farming?

You CAN pk in the pve continents after starter area, BUT there's a heavy penalty for it, not to mention the whole jailtime stuff. Anyone with notoriety will also be instantly hunted by patrol guards and free to be killed by any player at all. The whole jail system is being finetuned and by the time the game releases in the west, we will most likely have far longer maximum jailtime possible.

Let's not forget that after gaining certain part of notoriety you auto-join the Pirate/Criminal faction, making most of npcs hostile to you(except for the pirate territories ones).

PK and PVP in the sea is free for all, since, well, that's the point of the oceans. fight for traderoutes and resources, not to mention kraken spawns(and the undersea features that are coming like farms and stuff)

PK and PVP in the third continent is restricted by the territory owner's decisions.

Franly, THQ was WH40K.

With THQ gone, not too sure this will be any good.

So much potential but pay to win:/

Its not pay to win. People who pay money do not get anything that gives an advantage over players who don't. I wish people would stop saying its pay to win.

Wrong!  Just look up Runes and how they work and see that without the cash shop you have a 1% chance using them.

The game is a major pay-to-win game, very typical of PW games.  I knew PW would ruin anything cryptic made.

I think you might be wrong on this one. I don't see these runes being pay-to-win. I associate pay to win with having a distinct advantage over another person. Considering in PVE be it dungeons or raiding it would equate to perhaps dealing more damage or taking more damage I don't see how you 'Win' over your fellow PvE fellows?

PvP is a bit different considering its a skill based system, but in honest once 60 you nuke everything very very quickly and it becomes more a 'team based' exercise rather than a solo PvP experience. There is a reason the PvP is designed as team based combat rather than a Free for all where the guy with the highest damage gets the most kills.

In addition, a key costs around 40k AD. A very easy sum to obtain. I've personally earned  around 2 million AD since my time on there. I should also state that I bought Zen as well mainly for the character slot and for 2 bags. I used the AD I gained from buying and selling and playing the Zen market game. I have bought around 15 keys and traded for 10 others and I have got myself an epic mount, around 7 of those stones that prevent rune failure, 2x companions and a host of other goodies.

So, I haven't been required to spend a penny on that stuff. Why are you going about it the hard way? You really don't have to.

ANY advantage constitutes as P2W, defend it all you want but any sort of advantage one receives over others will constitute as P2W.  Should the close calls be the winner who pays for "non-essential" upgrades?  I think not.  Not mention Hellloooo Health Stones and Rez Scrolls.  The cash shop is atrocious and the entire system reeks of company greed.

I am sorry, but no matter in what kind of strange parallel world you are living in, convenience items do NOT count for pay to win. And what you listed are exactly that - convenience items.

It's interesting to note that Cryptic North is in the same area as Runic Games, another PWE studio.

Is it possible that Cryptic North has been created with the long-term goal of taking the Torchlight franchise into the MMO space? Runic have said they have no immediate intentions of doing so, but that does not mean that their parent - PWE - agree. Could it be that Runic Games will be moving on to pastures new, and Cryptic North will be taking on the task of Torchlight Online?

I hope not. I'd rather Runic keep doing what they're doing than see Cryptic butcher a Torchlight MMO.

Apparantly you missed the part in the post where it states that Cryptic North is primarily a support company - as in maintenace of servers, GMs, etc.

We already knew that while RUnic would develop TorchMMO and make all the decisions, it would be PWE who would run the servers.  This fits the bill.

TR was unique fresh and under-appreciated product that NCSOFT intentionally screwed over.

I doubt it will go anywhere, but it would be nice to have it back.

Your guild will likely schedule to have them a few times a day.

Another example of awful game design. On top of group dependency, vast of the content is scheduled.

The game has interesting features and mechanics but it is horribly designed...

So according to you the only kind of NOT awful game design is casual carebearism where everything is handed to you on silver platter any time you log in, with no effort needed?

Go back to Guild Wars II then.

The game is popular in China and dead in the west. The biggest hurdle for Snailgames is not new or missing content, its getting players to even give it a shot.

Not sure what can be done to appeal to western audience at this point.

You must have quite a funny definition of "dead" then.

Obsidian has a tendency to kill off most of what they touch. Take Neverwinter 2, or Kotor 2.

Both had strong storys and intersting NPC's as Suzie noted in her article however as the game progress the story gets weaker till in the ends Obsidian buries the the player under a ton of rocks never to be seen again or exiles them off into the center of the universe alone and friendless for no reason then they couldn't think of a decent ending. Genrally to add insult to injury Obsidian also ends the story with a poorly done sketch ending with monotone voice acting.

There are no Neverwinter 3's or Kotor 3"s planned simply because Obsidian bungled Kotor II and Neverwinter II so badly. (Rushed out with tons of bugs and poor editing where content just hits a wall because it was edited.) Seriouly I'm not sure I remember when last time Obsidian was able to make a game that was good all the way through

blame KOTOR II LucasArts forcing obsidian to release it way too early. Despite that KOTOR II trumphed KOTOR I in terms of story and characters.

Also let's not forget obsidian released Fallout: New Vegas  - which was far closer to what Fallout should be than bethesda's FO3 would ever be.

  1. . TSW  - one of the most enthralling, atmospheric and innovative things in mmo space.
  2. Neverwinter - player created content, good overall production values, feels more D&D than DDO did.
  3. Defiance - bassically Borderlands minus toilet humor or boring parts.
  4. Rift - Possibly best traditional mmo on the market right now, which will slay half the f2p genre when it goes free.
  5. Age of Wushu - One of best sandboxes on the markert right now.

Hell yes to this. It felt like an adventure game, with you searching for clues, navigating the place, etc. Second half of the quest is a bit weaker, but the first half when you are in the Inn? PHENOMENAL.

Name a good star wars game made with ea in charge.

Kotor was prior to ea buyout, Kotor 2 was obsidian.

Star Wars Battlefront.

DICE developing a starwars game? Yes pleas.e

Visceral making an M-rated strar wars game? YES PLEASE.

Bioware getting a third chance for KOTOR game? Fine by me.

I know it's just a trailer but that looks pretty badass.  Love the setting.  Is there more info?  Is it action combat?  Is it class-based or not?  Does it have sandbox elements like AoW?

It seems to be action combat, but it uses different interfaces - you have more normal third-person camera for normal combat and you have Hawken-style of interface for mecha-combat.

It uses normal action combat with dodge mechanics.

Here's 6 minute trailer for the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75ogdIyQhgw&feature=player_embedded#at=295

Secret World, hands down. The best implementation of horror in mmorpgs so far.

The upcoming japanese Ghost at Midnight, sounds promising too.

I had so much hopes for FF.  its well produced, and the graphics are stellar....

But if FF had as much pve content as Defiance -it would be a stiff competiiton, but as it stands, iam enjoin Defiances pve missions and arcfalls.

That's because the game is in-development - a year ago you did not even HAVE the open world in it. They are slowly adding stuff as they go.

People complaining about the length of closed beta seem to not understand that this game has "oldschool" TRUE beta testing, instead of the "marketing closed beta" that majority of newer mmo's did.

Firefall got some MAJOR changes due to the beta feedback every once in a while and its truly a game in-development. When comparing what was when the beta started and what is now, it seems like an entirelly different game.

Sure its unusual in current market where you get beta tests out purely to build up anticipation,  but what Firefall is doing is not that different from actual beta testing that goes on behind the scenes for most of games, just far more public

Face meet palm -facepalms-

The above two posters who stated that a original IP that they believe is set in a medieval setting should follow rules they dictated because they know better than the developers of the game what the game should feel like.  Might I suggest you two look up the definition of the term fantasy? (steampunk is fantasy and some people love it, some don't, Fullmetal Alchemist for example is a manga set in a steampunk universe which to be frank in my eyes blows most generic fantasy settings, such as Warcraft's, clean out of the water).

Well it's called integrity in design.

when last I checked on their game they had medievil castles yes?

And they fight with larger swords that might be found in earlier time periods. And ther are catapults.  yes?

Of course their ships aren't medievil at all and there is a disco.

Is disco steam punk?

What we have here is a hodge podge of styles and time periods.

Which I would think is a stylistic mess but to each his/her own.

And "no" I would not be complaining if it were a fully realized steampunk world.

Yes

Medieval castles.

And zeppelin type of airships.

And Da Vinci-style of gliders.

And steam carriages.

And advanced artillery.

And advanced naval tools and ships.

And brick-based building materials.

And focuses on colonization of "new world" by old world.

All of that puts the game world in AT LEAST late renaissance in terms of tech advancement.

A steampunk car fits right in to this.

In this thread - everyone's sarcasm meter is broken, leaving unable to detect or interpret it.

Gee I wonder why is this closing.

Can't possibly have anything to do with:

  1. Nexon's horrible ipblocking policies(where company ipblocks EU with promises of "Eu release" 454854646 years latter when no one cares and THEN it is revealed that half of EU will STILL won't able to play because Nexon will still be ipblocking them in EU version too).
  2. Nexon's horrible custommer support.
I find it hilarious that they talk about how they could not find popularity in western countries, considering they intentionally refused to release the game for half of the western world.
