No matter how you try to spin it, it is just another mediocre FPS game.  If I am going to bother with an FPS I will do it with one of the AAA titles of which this is not one of them.

Considering there has not been a good quality FPS "AAA Title" for years now and most of greatest fps games came out from relatively unknown studios (In fact, pretty much Hard Reset and Serious Sam 3 are the only fps games worth mentioning ), the above quote sounds quite ...strange.

Just found this on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ8qKj-jQxc

One of instanced dungeons demo-ed.

- Really loving the graphical style and visuals.
- Combat seems to be VERY good and has the correct feel when you hit something.

http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/neverwinter-makes-its-debut-as-an-mmo-with-action-combat-and-gorgeous-graphics/

Pretty much talks about the impressions of Control Mage and Trickster Thief gameplay, alongside some screenshots.

Overall seems to be very positive article and the person seems to be VERY impressed with the game so far.

The ammount of uninformed opinions in this comment section is hilarious.

I am not seeing anything of "team Fortress" here. I am not seeing anything of borderlands here or gears of war. Seriously were those comparing to those games born yesterday or is there no one old enough to remember the previous game of this lead designer in charge of firefall?

I am seeing cellshaded and a bit slower Tribes.

I know this is a 2008 game. I remember the graphics being superb. However, after recently installing it to experience their F2P, I was so underwhelmed that I had uninstalled before entering Tortage. The graphics, even maxed out on my GTX 580, looked extremely dated and the combat was much clunkier than I remembered.

I guess the "cartoony" look is the way to go, as WoW is MANY years older, yet something about it rings more modern.

Whatever you have been smoking...I DO NOT want it.

You can't be serious, as AOC is still the best damn looking mmorpg game out of all currently released ones, with one of the most innovative and enjoyable combat systems.

AOC had its flaws sure, but graphics and combat ARE NOT one of them.

Think carefully about signing up. Google "age of Conan launch issues problems". Same company, same people, same pre-launch hyper hype. Diablo III launches 4 days late- play it for a couple months, then try SW.

1) Look at the development time of AOC and just how much the investors made them rush it AND WHO WAS in charge of advertising and where that guy is now(hint: fired)

2) look at development time of TSW and the entirelly different approach to it?

3) Look at tehe fac that TSW Closed beta has been going on for quite some time already.

4) look at the fact none of head developers of AOC are working on TSW and that its helmed by the guy who pretty much only radiates and produces AWESOME stuff, also known as the guy who reinvented and saved Anarchy Online.

5) Look at the fact that it will be openly playable at PAX so you will have dozens of days to form an opinion before buying.

6.) Diablo III....uhhhhhh, not touching that thing. Ever. Diablo franchise is dead.

weapon and talisman packs?

im very scared off by pay to win... it may have actually stopped me preordering seeing this

They already said that vanity item shop will include weapon reskins and stuff like that.

First of all its REALLY nice to see a game developer team who come clean on what their game won't be.

TOR failed to do that, most of newly released games fail to do that, so its nice to seesomeone who can still see the customers through all the pr pollution and does not try to rely on promises they can't keep.

That said, there's nothing wrong with traditional mmo classes or combat.

Its part of the reason why MMO genre is MMO genre.

Having all those nasty and big "the new thing" mmos out there is good. But it is nice that for at least once we are getting an "oldschool mmo" that is not trying to be "uber edgy action" and might possibly reinvigorate and reinvent the genre of traditional mmo games.

Sure "traditional mmo" includes WOW. But it also includes Everquest. DAOC, Lord of The Rings Online and dozens of other flavors.

If Project Copernicus manages to invent a new flavor of a traditional mmo, I am all for it.

Also, for those who did not realize, this thread also has one post from Curt Schilling himself at the start of it ;]

Toward the end of the video, it says "Create" and what is apparently an entire zone being created.

Does this mean players can actually create their own landmass/zone?

That might be worth checking out if nothing else.

Someone did not read the huge text below the video?

Yes. You collect bits of data in the "internet" (killing stuff, interacting etc) and acquiring enough data of certain types allow you to create stuff of that type in your "myland".

In myland you do whatever you want, shape the place, explore it and expand. Its pretty much an owned planet. You build stuff, build up defenses and so on.

Also MyLand is pretty much the metaphor for your PC. EVERY MyLand has an IP Address that is needed to enter it, which means someone might decide to take over your IP , hence where the guild combat comes into play.

there is one thing that has been bothering me. ive read the majority of the articles now. and some mention tab targeting while others mention twitch. it could be possible that they want to incorperate both of them. after all Champions had it as a option.

TSW has tab targeting.  Combat is actually very similar to traditional tab targeting games with a few exceptions, mainly that you can use all abilities while moving (including channeled) and state based combos.
The "twitch" aspect might come into play in that the game seems to have a rather quick combat pace and the ability to move while attacking.

Not only that. It has a certain form of ability dodge too :

When a monster or a boss is using a skill, you can see a white circle or a cone showing where that skill will effect(similar to how it is with player skills), moving out of that zone will allow you to, effectively dodge its attack.

Game encourages moving in combat, thats where the whole "twitch" thing comes from.

Am I correct in saying it's ftp but with a lvl 40 limit ?

And returning players (probably with lvl 55 characters) get ftp just for 2 weeks?

Thats european model.

The NCSOFT version Aion "Truly Free" will be in every way similar to their L2 "Trully Free" :)

No limitations at all.

Tera is subscription based and there are no plans to go free to play.

Give it a year and we'll talk about that one again.

Considering how BAD Tera is doing in japan and korea so far, I'd say less than a year.

In Korea, the server economy went to crap within the first month and server merges started within the first month too, now there are huge server merges in japanese version.

I am giving TERA-EU around three months till some sort of F2P plan is announced.

Who cares if it's a mmo or rpg? As long as the game is good does it really matter what genre the game falls under?

Yeah this is a site about MMOs. If they wanted to start doing previews of other games then they are free to change their name.

nitpickers.

There's a mmorpg game set in the same world in the works as well. It shares lore, setting and well, some of the characters with the singleplayer franchise being built around that world.

You do not seem to nitpick when this website posts lore updates for guild wars II for example, do you?

So bassically you missed the whole point of the whole thing, then? good to know.

It was quite clear that the whole August 29 thing happened exactly as intended. Those who followed given clues that day as well as were active got what they wanted. Others remained to wait and did not get what they wanted.

Kinna makes me wonder, what about the secret war we signed up for in what? August?? The garanteed beta access that came tied to one of many Aoc related promotions.

I for one am not impressed by their promotion, a hand few of interview 2 and a half video and a couple of screenshots.

But the information, updates, news letters to people who have been registered since 2009.

Atleast to me they certainly seemed to have gone out of their way to kill interest.

i dont think they are killing interest, i think they are trying to be secretive, a lack of recent info about the game builds up a certain mystery that could be seen as intriging to a number of people.

Some form of information concerning both the secret war AND the garanteed beta access through various promotions in the past is more then overdue, time is kinna.. running out to actually make good on that offer.

Some people still don't get on what the secret war was about, do they?

Those who expected a "simple register and you enter" kind of deal should be disappointed. Those woh thoroughly read the anouncement about "delay" that day got well rewarded.  It all worked as intended :)

Apparantly some people areunable to comprehend it when developers go a  bit "meta" with the stuff. :)

Considering Phase 2 hasnt started yet, I gues you are one of those people who didnt get it.

I do remember them mentioning before starting off phase 2 they want to build a community, considering a entire faction's activity on facebook is extinct, Id say say they failed there.

Or are you talking about the complete lack of communication on facebook other then the rare new link showing some info on the faction weeks, new screenshot(s) , they rally arent doing anything there.

But hey I didnt sign up for the sectret war to get into beta, considering I already HAVE garanteed beta from previous promotions, just no invite yet. But you are right, even if they invite 5 minutes before the servers go down before retail, they still would be keeping their word.

what phase 2? :)

They definitely have the graphics and the combat down pat. I wonder if the game will be like Fable, where you can own property, affect the economy, etc. I think my wife spent more time becoming a slum lord than she spent playing the actual story line in the game.

Yes, You can own and upgrade houses, mines, even castles and island fortress.  Some property can be outfited with underground dungeons, additional rooms, etc.

Now while I do not belong to any countries in that list , I'll be damned on if their official statement did not sound overly racist.

yes, obviously "everyone in russia and asia" are hackers.

Frankly this solves nothing. The actual "cyber criminals" from scary big asia and scary big mother russia will still get in through proxies and ip masking and millions of other methods.

En Masse is trying to sidestep the NEED to develop actual anti-hacking tools, but it won't help even a bit.

Blizzard doesn't have it in them to produce a good quality game anymore. I'm glad I was able to enjoy Diablo II, and I'll let it end there.

Starcraft 2 is so good it is considered the industry standard RTS.  Many commentators believe it is dumb for  other companies to make RTS games anymore since no one will play the multiplayer for it since all RTS gamers are still playing Starcraft 2 a year and a half after the release.

THe thing is however.

Starcraft II is pretty much IDENTICAL to the first one, except graphically superior.  And even with that game, Blizz is messing up quite a lot - first with the whole DRM(not as restrictive as DIablo3's one though), then with shutting down modders and of course requiring the buyers to buy the game three times in order to play a full campaign.

SC2 is a good game because its the same game, and even with that they had problems.

D3 is nothing like diablo games. ITs a mere shell of a former franchise, made up purelly so blizz can proffit from box sales and auction house.

Torchlight 2 won't be a factor on D3 sales.

Any proof or argument on that?

Quite a lot of community has went all "frackk d3, Ill get torchlight II instead" with each anouncement last year, including RMAH, DRM, new armor "designs" and etc.

Will it affect the sales in major way? Surely not. There are a lot of blizzard fanboys who buy everything actiblizzard makes.

But saying thait WON"T affect the sales at all is ridiculous.
