A Few Things You Should Know Before You Start TR: A Brief Review
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 1/05/08 9:51:53 PM
I beta tested TR and was unsure of the game at the time, but on Dec 26th I found TR for $9 at EB Games and grabbed it and so far I am really liking the game since it seems significantly improved from beta. The con I found was only 5 weapon slots, we could use swappable rows like the abilities has. The UI doesn't allow us to move componments around the screen, I would put the self and target boxes in the middle bottom rather than them being in the left bottom and top middle which seems kind of awlward (most people don't have a problem with it).

ALL SWG VETS AND NEW PLAYERS READ THIS!!!
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 1/04/08 6:44:42 PM
Sabic133, too bad you didn't stick around longer during the combat upgrade, it improved dramatically but unfortunately SOE shoved the CU over and threw in the NGE which still isn't even close to what the CU was in later Octobor 2005. Combat in the CU in Octobor was pretty damn fun with publish 24, being a Jedi was an absolute challenge against BH and squad leaders and even creature handlers.

All I can say is that it's far too late to really save the game, they're just focusing on the new crowd of players (which some are losing faith in SOE), dev team changed too many times. The game is even getting closer and closer to being a WoW clone, I could name alot of similarities between the two, SOE/LA just needs to realize that trying to be like a successful game really isn't going to cut it, many of us vets liked the old game because it was unique and had LOTS of flexibility. WoW is very successful because: it's available on PC and Mac, it runs decently on a 6 year old PC, it's an easy game to play (and with the latest patches leveling is much faster), and customizable interface. Blizzard doesn't cater to whiners and nerfherders, and they regularily ban farmers, account hijackers, spammers and they actually deal with gold farmers. A year ago they banned nearly 200K accounts that involved with buying gold from ebay, they can afford the loss of 200K accounts because they have well over 9 million players now. |

I play on Orion with a ping between 29-45ms, the lag isn't that bad except some parts in the Wilderness zone like the LZ assault/defense occasion and I get slightly stuttering but it's tolorable, Cassiopeia is much less laggy but my ping is higher there. The worst lag I've seen was in SWG and Planetside, City of Heroes/Villains was easy to fix by turning sound off ingame (devs has yet to fix that one) but otherwise one of the most annoying lag was from CoX. I know the EU server is the most populated, they may need to add another EU server, the amount of players on there almost equals to Orion and Cassiopeia's combined population. |

Possibly in the near future, I too wish the HUD items could be moved around, on my widescreen it's difficult to watch my health bar at the bottom left and see what's going on at the same time- I usually put my health box and enemy health box next to each other on bottom center in most games. |

Do not buy this game until they fix the following SEVERE bugs..

Too late, I got the game but for $9 though, but I haven't even been able to log into the game yet since the patches are appearing corrupt and I've been looking high and low for answers with very little to lead on, I'm about to give up. Odd that I had no problems getting the game setup and running in beta testing.
EDIT- got it running finally, I upgraded to .NET framework 3.5 from 3.0 and the plaync download seemed to work after. |

I just reinstalled TR last night (beta tested TR before) after returning home from my vacation and the launcher seemed to download the first 2 patches but the 1.2.2.0 > 1.3.2.1 seems to be corrupt both from the launcher and from the .exe download I found on the unofficial forums. Also when I open the properties on TR in the launcher it shows TR is 0.20.1.0 and server is 1.3.2.1, and the game is installed on my F:\ drive instead of C:\ drive if that makes any difference.

I walked into EB Games on the 26th and looked around while the lineup was about half a mile long on X360 game sales then I saw TR for $9.99 so I figured what the hell and grabbed it. I beta tested TR and I always said $50 wasn't worth what the game is right now.

Seen that before, not long after JTL went live I got plenty of those. I think it's to do with the SWG files being corrupt. |

Not entirely, the Extended Universe of Star Wars doesn't really evolve around Jedi at all, that's where things like Teras Kasi, Nightsister/Singing Mountain Clan and other NPCs you see around the game comes from. The Clone Wars cartoons were exactly opposite of that, it was all about Jedi, Jedi is what attracts the new generation of Star Wars fans- unfortunately otherwise we could have still gone on OK with maybe NPC Jedi and few rewarded player Jedi that was originally planned.

I wish there were more games like Planetside, a BR6 can kill a BR24/CR5 in battle since everyone had equal chance, battle rank just gave you points to buy more variety in what you equip/use and command rank just increases your global communication skills plus an orbital strike. |

Ditto, SOE has a bad rep from word of mouth and media focus over the past few years. I know POTB won't have strong subscription numbers, let alone how long it'll last. I feel this way about POTB and Tabula Rasa, both games wouldn't keep me interested for any longer than 2-3 months.

Bioware - Lucas Arts Secret MMO - Why It's Star Wars.
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 12/10/07 2:06:11 PM
Interesting about the spy bit, though there's a bit of conflict in that because on the Bioware forums a Bioware dev said they are NOT doing a SW IP- the Bioware forums is an awful mess by the way, the Bioware/LA discussion thread is about 46 pages long now. |

The NGE was completely uncalled for, they could have just improved the existing system, I still don't get it to why the hell they did that to 250K+ PAYING customers that promptly quit after the NGE. City of Heroes/Villains has 150K-200K subscribers and they consider that game a success, why didn't SOE/LA see 300K subscribers as a success- because they got jealous of WoW, and they even admitted they play WoW. |

As many "you pre-cu fanbois that want KOTOR online will be disappointed" comments as I see, I won't be as long as it isn't a frigging pseudo-FPS with a piss poor ugly looking GUI like the NGE is, the SWG sandbox is great but I can live without it if vendors and cantinas are only NPC but buying your own apparntment in a major city would be great (like the ones in KOTOR 2 underneith a city) and could give you a place to store your items. |

Any similar sandboxes like SWG out there?
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 12/09/07 12:39:42 AM
I've been hearing that Ages of Conan may have similar sandbox abilities, there's already housing in the beta I think. The animations in AoC is almost video-like, it might be an alright game and hopefully it gets a decent crafting and economy system. |

LucasArts could very much have alot to do with the NGE, but look at SOE's other titles- SOE aren't that much better than LA (or EA for that matter). SOE should have stayed with EQ, their other titles just falls over and rolls down the hill after release. |

She has her own website, see if she can confirm it there or if there's any history of it being there (I don't read much into it) |

Tiggs was an interesting person, showed alot of patience and was quite social with the community, I remember going into the launchpad chatroom one day and seeing over 1K people in there and a whole bunch of them asking Tiggs questions in private messages:
