slow the progression? Last night I went into Crucible for the first time as a lvl 32 Grenadier. By the time I left Crucible by the end of the night, I was lvl 34. I also had no troubles taking on multiple mobs of lvl 37-39 Bane and Lashers. Although, I had to take care not to pull more than 7 lashers using my incindiary shotgun or I'd get overwhelmed. My chain gun made quick work of the Bane and could usually easily take on mobs of 7 or 8 at a time. The only time I had troubles with mobs of Bane is when I ventured down that one road this is a gauntlet of Bane on each side.
So for those that say 1.4 has killed the ability to solo or has made the game more difficult, I think the problem is the lack of tactics being used by those players and probably the build of their character as well. But as all things with life, YMMV.
Subotai

I'm curious to why you went to Crucible at that level? Did you skip Plateau and Pools and Marshes? Plateau takes you from 30-33, Pools 33-35 and so on, you'll probably run short on missions when you get into the 40's now if you did Crucible that early.

And that's the point of an MMO, soloing is for single player games, I joined up with a group to do Ustor yard/Maligo base and it was ALOT of fun. Soloing is a little slower now but not a whole lot harder, striders/stalkers are still a joke when you know their weakness, right now my sniper with the toraqueshell rifle has the hardest time and a dev came on to chat with us one night and said he has a sniper and knows about the problem with the TSR and will be fixing it.

Um yeah $65 is rather steep for this type of game, but to say it's a lemon is out of line- it's far from being a lemon, it's young and will gain more juice soon. I got lucky and saw it for $9 at EB Games on boxing day (day after Christmas for you non Canadians), I beta tested this game and said to myself that I'm not paying $50 for it because it didn't seem to make up for a $50 product, however the live game is a bit different and much better.

It's been said several times, devs has alot planned for upcoming patches, the hybrids was just the beginning.

I never even knew TR was overhyped, I thought that was Halo 3?

That subject is getting mixed opinions, there's some that don't want to leave their server even if it's low or dead (like that Radiant guy), I know 3 major guilds from Radiant recently transferred to Chilastra or Bloodfin. I honestly think if the character transfer service was more reliable and $20 cheaper, more people would be moving their characters. Unfortunately I think merging servers can spell doom and have all kinds of problems so SOE could be stuck with this one.

There was a discussion about "recommended" server tags, alot of people tend to ignore that and go for the highest populated server when they first pick up a game, I know I did with City of Heroes- I joined to the Freedom server because it had more people than any other server.

Um, I'm confused by that video, it's obviously been edited but the demo video Smedley is showing is from pre-CU, so is this presentation 4 years old or from 2008? If it's from 2008, that's 100% false advertisement.

I have to disagree with you on one point, SWG players have ALWAYS complained about the game. This isn't some new phenomena brought about by the NGE. Oddly enough, the things we bitched and screamed about years ago are still being bitched about today. One would think that 4.5 years after a game is launched it would be running smooth and relatively free of bugs. This is not now nor has it ever been the case with SWG. The bugs we see today are the same bugs we've seen in the game for years and SOE is either too lazy or too incompetent to fix them.

Nah, the only difference between then and now was that most complained about profession balance most especially coming from the Jedi forums; such as Jedi trees and defense stacking and CM/rifleman, very rarely did bugs get mentioned except exploits- bugs like scatterhit/shot bypassing armor/defense, stuffing lightsabers, stacking forcerun. The only bug that ever bothered me pre-CU was the disappearing items in houses which were easily recovered, and of course the rubberbanding which still occurs today. Now it's all about merging servers, how sucking spy or Jedi is, fix animations, fix misfiring specials, it's all about the fixing the current game.

I actually think it is uncalled for to say vets don't know what they're talking about. It's clear the current SWG players don't know what they're talking about either since they do nothing but complain in the forums, far more than what I used to see pre-CU and I always thought the Jedi forums were really bad but this is worse.

I read the official forums, and I notice how dishonest devs can be, I feel sorry for the current players, I really do.

At least in Tabula Rasa, a dev or two comes into the server on a weekly basis and chats with us for a couple hours and takes notes of our suggestions for their meetings, Richard Garriot himself logs on and says hi. The GMs are extremely fast in response (2-5 minutes) and immediately boots credit spammers. This game with responsive devs and GMs has a whole lot of potential ahead of them.

Everytime I hear the words "Star Warsy" or "Iconic" I throw up in my mouth a little.
It's truely sad reading the description of how the game is now having enjoyed it myself before they slapped the NGE up.

Id advise you not to listen to many of these posters who seem to know very little about the game in its current state. Look out for those claiming "buff wars", "grindfest" or you cant win if your opponent is higher in the GCW than you. (im not even an officer on most of my toons yet i manage to rack up alot of kills, many of those solo.)

Yup, don't listen to us, because we don't know anything and we don't play our veteran reactivation trials. Now sarcasm aside, I played for a solid 2 months on 2 different accounts through vet reactivation (between Oct-Dec), the GCW is certainly a grind and if you're new and want to get involved, it's going to take you a long time since nearly everyone that are at where they want to be had already done the "base" grind which was frowned upon by many but it was the only way to level up in rank. Get serious about buff wars, You honestly think you can go on with 300-600 in stats and 16-17K health and kill a guy with WELL OVER 1000 in more than 1 stat and 25-28K health? Not to mention crit stackers and block stackers (which is getting nerfed).

We've had our say, so let the guy figure it out anyways and instead of listening to us, please read up in the official SWG forums, the number of threads in the General discussion will give you enough indepth of how the current players feel.

Personally I want any game that isnt a quality product to fail miserably, these companies cranking out one lame MMO after anotother need to fail until they get it through their thick skulls that they need to be ingenuitive rather than stagnant. We the consumers are tired of products like these that dont deliver long term fun. Thats why everyone is so cynical, simply put, were tired of crap and are looking to burn some witches.

Let's look at WoW for example, so many people said it was to fail when it first released, WoW had SOOO many problems the first year with server instability and problems but look at it now. Why people jump to the conclusion about a young game (3 months old now), devs has already stated that they are going to be working on crafting, adding pvp, new content, they already added 16 more missions in late game. Give it time.

The same thing happens when each new version of Windows comes out, when XP came out everyone hated it, now everyone likes XP and hates Vista- now Microsoft has halted support for XP and as far as I know there will be no DirectX 10 support for XP.

There was a dev online on Orion last night, he was writing down suggestions we gave him, THAT's the kind of dev every MMO needs to have- devs and Garriot seems to regularily drop in on the servers once in a while and talks with us for an hour or two then sometimes runs an event in a zone. I think that's an advantage to not having an official TR forums.

Game GMs are also excellent in response and support, much unlike the GMs in SOE that barely speak english.

Glad to see TR named best online game. IMO TR had one of the smoothest live launch out of any game, very few bugs besides a few missions that are easily fixed by GM (which respond very very quickly), even the super-duper popular WoW had alot of issues when launching live and for the first year.

And LOL Vanguard, just LOL. If SOE doesn't get stupid with FLS, PotBS might be next as online game of the year though I'm not very fond of that game, but I somewhat doubt it.

In patch 1.4 they added 16 new missions for the higher levels.

Usually when I see a fanboi say the population is fine are usually from 1 of the 4 "healthy" populated server (Bria, Bloodfin, Chilastra and Starsider). They seem to miss the fact that 21 other servers are struggling, and they are in dire need of a merge very soon. With how unstable (and expensive) character transfer is right now and the dilema of handling resource and player cities, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

The game is a grind, pure and simple.

That's quite false, unless you consider questing a grind.

questions:
#1 Are quests generally fun? Meaning, reasonable travel times, simplicity, and sense of accomplishment.
#2 My primary goal is end game pvp. How long does it take to get to endgame?
#3 Does space pvp exist(in practice)? Is it worth the grind to be competent in it? Do space missions ever get interesting?
#4 Is the economy out of whack, or can I function within it through-at maximum- moderate crafting or harvesting?
#5 What is the best solo pvp class? Is commando viable?
#6 How would you compare the legacy quest with showcase epic quests found in other games?

#1 That's totally up to you, I found them trivial and easy.
#2 It is possible to get to 90 in 14-16 days, however getting yourself ranked up in the GCW in order to actually compete with the other colonel/generals, is going to take forever. Otherwise you'll be at a disadvantage everytime. Also know your buffs, this has turned into a buff wars game and I think it's utterly stupid.
#3 Rarely, certain servers "RP" space pvp such as Starsider or you can go to Deep Space and look for those wandering around trying to complete collections.
#4 In many ways yes the economy is way out of whack, it didn't used to be before the NGE, but why bother buying something off the bazaar when you can loot and get rewards all the way.
#5 There's really no "solo" pvp class, MMO pvp is usually based around group vs group, however the best pvp class changes constantly, trust me.
#6 Refer to #1 for the answer, trivial and easy, and gets boring.

Making money nowadays is actually a little TOO easy in this game, 50 mil credits 2+ years ago was almost unheard of but now people have BILLIONS of credits. You can rack up 1 mil credit every 15-20 minutes farming Goatals in Kashyyyk then selling all the loot you get to the junk dealer, I used my smuggler for that so I didn't have to run back to the junk dealer.

Also head to Bria, Bloodfin or Chilastra, or Starsider if you're in EU.

Not to bash on you but I never get to why people play an MMO to try and skip the pve just to pvp. I had my vet reactivation trial, and I deleted all my characters and uninstalled SWG, but I just felt like giving whatever answer I had in mind. :)

Salvaje on the first page made some good points, the graphics quality between a SP game like Crysis or Call of Duty vs most MMOs are different, MMOs need to handle client to server communication without lagging the client down and that can be bad with a high graphics game. The officer class is a good example to some lag, there's one certain ability (I think white petie nade) makes them warp everytime, there's also alot of flaws within the SWG engine for example you run down a ramp in a base which looks normal on your client but on another person's client they'll see you warp which gives you a position advantage when you are defending the base from the attacker.

Planetside is an MMOFPS, probably first of its kind and it worked out well until you ran into battles of over 100 people in one spot, then it becomes a slideshow. During open beta testing there were easily 300 people from all 3 factions in one base and it was awesome yet super laggy and you'd die minutes before you knew what happened.

Pre-CU had a cap of 1.0 second per attack no matter how fast or how often you spammed, but the NGE allows you to fire ALL abilities on your toolbar at once and yes it is possible to bypass cooldown, which some serious pvpers abuses to their advantage. The combat upgrade was significally slower but I was able to find a way to 1.0 second attacks by alternating different abilities, you were never able to cycle the same attack (or auto-attack) every 1 second in the CU (not even with my 0.5 moded scatter pistol).

Before I quit, I rolled a wookiee on Bria and got him to 90 as a TKA entertainer in 12 hours and wandered around Restuss and some other zones, it indeed was crowded in Eisley and Restuss and a little traffic on Dath but Mustafar, Dant, Kash, Theed and Corellia were dead quiet.

Get the free trial from this website and try it,
everyone has bad things to say about every game, so just try it for yourself.

Its no longer possible to get the free trial, they have run out of keys.

I blame the credit spammers, I've noticed they 've quieted down lately since they too probably can't find more keys after getting account banned 5 seconds after the initial advertisement by a GM.

Most of the players I've seen in game actually say they love the game. I think the ones that don't like TR are the ones that expected an MMOCounter-Strike version of the game.

I'm going to be upgrading my PC this month, but my PC is a 2GHz AMD Sempron, 2GB memory and an ATI X1650 512MB AGP and the game runs great. I imagine it will run fine even on a 1.5GHz and 1.5GB ram but the video card is going to be picky.

Fundamental changes like this are a sign of improper testing and lack of vision. It's really unfair to all the players who invested time leveling characters to have things changed drastically like this. They should offer refunds.

How has it "fundamentally changed"? "Drastic changes"??

The game's foundation and direction haven't changed at all. Just some play-balance tweaks.

Probably mistakingly posted here instead of the SWG forums. /wink

I play on Orion, I have been seeing the same people online each day as I have 3 or 4 weeks ago, very few people had disappeared and I've been seeing new names everyday too.

We grouped up today for a few instances and it's actually alot of fun, I'm not a big fan of soloing though it's what I do 98% of the time in TR because people are spread out and doing their own thing. When you're grouped, you have much less chance of dying and do specific roles accordingly.

I've been playing my Brann sniper which is level 31, I noticed it's a little harder to kill things but I've been hearing snipers in the 30's has the most trouble with the TSR (BOOOHOOO I CAN'T 1 SHOT ANYMORE, LOLROFLCOPTER), since I've been talking to many level 50 snipers and they all say they have no trouble at 50. There were also some lower level snipers that had no problem taking back checkpoint bases by themselves.

I still see the EU server hit medium in early morning PST and Pegasus reach medium in the evening.

So in 2004, he gets named president of LA and two years later calls it quits? That's rather a short lived career of his.

Probably a good move on his part.
