Veteran Players leaving in droves after 1.4
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 2/08/08 10:46:56 AM
I'm curious to why you went to Crucible at that level? Did you skip Plateau and Pools and Marshes? Plateau takes you from 30-33, Pools 33-35 and so on, you'll probably run short on missions when you get into the 40's now if you did Crucible that early.

Veteran Players leaving in droves after 1.4
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 2/08/08 10:43:57 AM
Um yeah $65 is rather steep for this type of game, but to say it's a lemon is out of line- it's far from being a lemon, it's young and will gain more juice soon. I got lucky and saw it for $9 at EB Games on boxing day (day after Christmas for you non Canadians), I beta tested this game and said to myself that I'm not paying $50 for it because it didn't seem to make up for a $50 product, however the live game is a bit different and much better.

That subject is getting mixed opinions, there's some that don't want to leave their server even if it's low or dead (like that Radiant guy), I know 3 major guilds from Radiant recently transferred to Chilastra or Bloodfin. I honestly think if the character transfer service was more reliable and $20 cheaper, more people would be moving their characters. Unfortunately I think merging servers can spell doom and have all kinds of problems so SOE could be stuck with this one. There was a discussion about "recommended" server tags, alot of people tend to ignore that and go for the highest populated server when they first pick up a game, I know I did with City of Heroes- I joined to the Freedom server because it had more people than any other server. |

Um, I'm confused by that video, it's obviously been edited but the demo video Smedley is showing is from pre-CU, so is this presentation 4 years old or from 2008? If it's from 2008, that's 100% false advertisement. |

do vets really know what they're talking about?
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 2/06/08 8:10:37 AM
Nah, the only difference between then and now was that most complained about profession balance most especially coming from the Jedi forums; such as Jedi trees and defense stacking and CM/rifleman, very rarely did bugs get mentioned except exploits- bugs like scatterhit/shot bypassing armor/defense, stuffing lightsabers, stacking forcerun. The only bug that ever bothered me pre-CU was the disappearing items in houses which were easily recovered, and of course the rubberbanding which still occurs today. Now it's all about merging servers, how sucking spy or Jedi is, fix animations, fix misfiring specials, it's all about the fixing the current game. |

I actually think it is uncalled for to say vets don't know what they're talking about. It's clear the current SWG players don't know what they're talking about either since they do nothing but complain in the forums, far more than what I used to see pre-CU and I always thought the Jedi forums were really bad but this is worse.

A few questions about the state of the game now
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 2/05/08 5:42:34 PM
Yup, don't listen to us, because we don't know anything and we don't play our veteran reactivation trials. Now sarcasm aside, I played for a solid 2 months on 2 different accounts through vet reactivation (between Oct-Dec), the GCW is certainly a grind and if you're new and want to get involved, it's going to take you a long time since nearly everyone that are at where they want to be had already done the "base" grind which was frowned upon by many but it was the only way to level up in rank. Get serious about buff wars, You honestly think you can go on with 300-600 in stats and 16-17K health and kill a guy with WELL OVER 1000 in more than 1 stat and 25-28K health? Not to mention crit stackers and block stackers (which is getting nerfed).

Why do some of you want this game to fail so badly?
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 2/05/08 5:51:52 AM
Let's look at WoW for example, so many people said it was to fail when it first released, WoW had SOOO many problems the first year with server instability and problems but look at it now. Why people jump to the conclusion about a young game (3 months old now), devs has already stated that they are going to be working on crafting, adding pvp, new content, they already added 16 more missions in late game. Give it time.

There was a dev online on Orion last night, he was writing down suggestions we gave him, THAT's the kind of dev every MMO needs to have- devs and Garriot seems to regularily drop in on the servers once in a while and talks with us for an hour or two then sometimes runs an event in a zone. I think that's an advantage to not having an official TR forums.

Glad to see TR named best online game. IMO TR had one of the smoothest live launch out of any game, very few bugs besides a few missions that are easily fixed by GM (which respond very very quickly), even the super-duper popular WoW had alot of issues when launching live and for the first year.

In patch 1.4 they added 16 new missions for the higher levels. |

Usually when I see a fanboi say the population is fine are usually from 1 of the 4 "healthy" populated server (Bria, Bloodfin, Chilastra and Starsider). They seem to miss the fact that 21 other servers are struggling, and they are in dire need of a merge very soon. With how unstable (and expensive) character transfer is right now and the dilema of handling resource and player cities, I don't see it happening anytime soon. |

That's quite false, unless you consider questing a grind. |

A few questions about the state of the game now
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 2/04/08 10:19:42 AM
#1 That's totally up to you, I found them trivial and easy. #2 It is possible to get to 90 in 14-16 days, however getting yourself ranked up in the GCW in order to actually compete with the other colonel/generals, is going to take forever. Otherwise you'll be at a disadvantage everytime. Also know your buffs, this has turned into a buff wars game and I think it's utterly stupid. #3 Rarely, certain servers "RP" space pvp such as Starsider or you can go to Deep Space and look for those wandering around trying to complete collections. #4 In many ways yes the economy is way out of whack, it didn't used to be before the NGE, but why bother buying something off the bazaar when you can loot and get rewards all the way. #5 There's really no "solo" pvp class, MMO pvp is usually based around group vs group, however the best pvp class changes constantly, trust me. #6 Refer to #1 for the answer, trivial and easy, and gets boring. Making money nowadays is actually a little TOO easy in this game, 50 mil credits 2+ years ago was almost unheard of but now people have BILLIONS of credits. You can rack up 1 mil credit every 15-20 minutes farming Goatals in Kashyyyk then selling all the loot you get to the junk dealer, I used my smuggler for that so I didn't have to run back to the junk dealer.

Maybe they haven't seen what a full server looks like?
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 2/03/08 12:18:53 PM
Salvaje on the first page made some good points, the graphics quality between a SP game like Crysis or Call of Duty vs most MMOs are different, MMOs need to handle client to server communication without lagging the client down and that can be bad with a high graphics game. The officer class is a good example to some lag, there's one certain ability (I think white petie nade) makes them warp everytime, there's also alot of flaws within the SWG engine for example you run down a ramp in a base which looks normal on your client but on another person's client they'll see you warp which gives you a position advantage when you are defending the base from the attacker.

I blame the credit spammers, I've noticed they 've quieted down lately since they too probably can't find more keys after getting account banned 5 seconds after the initial advertisement by a GM. |
|
|
Most of the players I've seen in game actually say they love the game. I think the ones that don't like TR are the ones that expected an MMOCounter-Strike version of the game.

Probably mistakingly posted here instead of the SWG forums. /wink |

I play on Orion, I have been seeing the same people online each day as I have 3 or 4 weeks ago, very few people had disappeared and I've been seeing new names everyday too.

So in 2004, he gets named president of LA and two years later calls it quits? That's rather a short lived career of his.
