Any game company that willingly chooses SOE as a publisher deserves for their game to fail as if they don't know the reputution that SOE has in the MMO world then they should not be developing games in this genre in the first place.
Even though SOE has nothing to do with the developement of the game, there are hordes and hordes of players that won't touch anything SOE has an input in.
As for SOE themselves i recommend that they rebrand their company and look careful at how they do business in the future, it can't be that hard to get it right!

Yup, what do you think happened to Matrix Online after SOE picked it up? A week later hordes of players complained and cancelled.

Sigil and Flying Lab Software (POBS) should have done a little more thinking, I hate to say it but POBS has some potential if SOE doesn't screw it up but POBS doesn't suit me (pvp is dull and avatar gameplay is shallow). I kept hearing about SOE might get a Marvel online MMO, dear GOD.

Back in the days I thought Electronic Arts was terrible, SOE has proven to be king of terrible.

Planetside isn't an RPG, it's a straight up FPS with MMO capacity. Look at Tabula Rasa for more of a FPS/RPG combination, they did it better than SOE did with the NGE, the "sticky" target lock is a great feature. When the NGE first came out (and it still occurs today sometimes) was when you held the mouse button down to attack someone you'd get a text spam across your screen "sending trade request" over and over and over, it got VERY annoying, and you couldn't attack something through a crowd of friendlies nor specifically target 1 thing out of a mob. TR's "sticky" feature works past those.

It'll be VERY hard to believe or predict when the plug will be pulled (if ever), look at PlanetSide and Matrix Online, their plugs should have been pulled years ago.

Heh, like I said before, probably never played another MMO and tunnel visioned on this NGE.

SWG was ALOT of fun without Jedi up until around March 2004 when Guardians started showing up, but even then when you first saw a player Jedi you would go "OH WOW!". There were tons of things to do without being a Jedi back then, the economy was probably the best thing and I loved going to other player cities and shopping for bargains.

Oh yeah, I forgot:

LOL great post. :)

His apology was referring to the timing of the NGE release, not the NGE itself- they would have still released it at a later date regardless of community protest.

Skipping all this yaddayaddayadda, let me tell you there were *NO SUCH THREADS* that existed complaining about server population before the NGE or CU. Why are they constantly popping up now?

People from Bria, Chilastra, Bloodfin and StarSider need to look at the 21 other servers.

EVE online's never really had a box in the store....

I've seen EVE in EB Games, hell even Ultima Online and Lineage. I rarely ever see any SOE titles anymore, maybe an Everquest (Online Adventure) box here and there for like $4 CDN. During the Christmas season I did come across a Station access box for $9 CDN.

You could very well be having fun, and I applaud the fact you are. But, factually, the game is a sinking ship where everyone is rushing to the last floating piece of wreckage still adrift.

Like any mmo thats about as old as swg is.. it's not really doing any worse than most old mmos.

Nah, nothing has sunk as fast as SWG did after the NGE, there's some old games that are still going strong: the Everquest 2, Lineage, Final Fantasy, heck even City of Heroes. But none of the games the past has lost so many subscribers in such a short time like SWG did, plus pretty much all the other SOE titles has dropped drastically in mid-2006.

Ha ha ha ha ha in defense of the free mmo's out there that you pay for items they are a much beter caliber of game, much more then $oe could put out. so i dont think they need to fear the $oe juggernauts try at it lol...

ROFL

fall on floor cant breath...... Laughing to hard lol ............

I want to see them try and BOMB rofl lol lol lol lol lol lol rofl
OMG some one dial 911 I'm going to die Laughing

SOE does have a proven record of doing anything they do... poorly.

The Everquest series are the only ones SOE has ever done any good with, but even recently they changed crafting in EQ2 and people are leaving. RMT is definately looking like a future part of SOE products, only a small minority of current MMO gamers out there pays for in game money from farmers, and in game items (you find them on ebay) for SWG or CoH/V and WoW but a mass majority are against it, I'd say about 85%+.

Why do we need new vast worlds when up until recently, much of the original planets were hardly used? It's only been in the last year or two that that has finally been addressed.

Player cities could use some improvements, which is apparantly scheduled for one of these upcoming Game Updates.
Structures have been improved with the addition of the item storage increasers. No, that's not new structures but with all my lots currently accounted for and the time invested in the houses I do have, a new structure would probably be unused by me.

We need vast new worlds because according to things like the Bartle test (or whatever that thing is) exploration is one of, if not the number 1thing, people enjoy doing in MMO's. And of the available planets most things have been explored to death.
As for structure storage increase I'd say that's pretty weak. What about more choices, more customization? How about the idea of changing interior things like wall textures?
And lastly I asked you how long you're going to wait. Your response was it's happening now, then you say things are scheduled for some unknown future update. That sounds suspiciously like waiting to me.

There was the new space sector with Chapter 8. New ground worlds to explore would be good but as I said, the ones we have need to have content associated with them before they move on and add more.

As for more choices on structures, see my reply you quoted as to my thoughts on that.
The update I mentioned was for one specific thing. Other things are/have already been updated hence why I used the word "started" ;)

The three things you listed as being important to you in SWG were housing, open worlds, and crafting.

Then you say that new structures would go unused by you. So that leaves crafting and open worlds. When does crafting get their upgrade, and when will there be more open worlds?

Well from my observation at the official SWG forums, crafting is no longer an interest in the near future for the game, devs are increasingly pushing it aside, as for open worlds- it's more like instanced worlds.

As for new structures, I remember in summer of 2004 (between publish 9-11), there was a contest for concept art for new house designs and guild halls, and devs scrapped it around the release of JTL and never went back to it. There were some great artwork, and some buildings such as the ones in Mos Eisley (the Imperial HQ house) would have made great houses.

Well EQ2 is shit from release but they just turned it into WOW now.

That's all that SWG has become. A broken version of WoW in space... Sadly, there is no need for a player driven economy without decay and when loot drops provide the must UBER "stuff"...

That's part of the reason why I stopped playing MMOs altogether, they're all the same now, even City of Heroes/Villains slowly crept towards the typical MMO theme with "purple" enhancements and the auction house and even the character stats sheet.

Tabula Rasa was my last MMO, it wore me out fairly quicky, not sure if I'm going to boter with anymore MMOs until I find out what Bioware is working on.

The sad part is he probably doesn't get paid by SOE. SWG is his reality, look at his X-fire sig. When he's not in the game he's trolling SWG related forums defending his virtual utopia where nothing is broken, everything works perfectly and he's constantly surrounded by 100+ people or talking to 30+ people in his vent. None of the problems that bother other players affect him because SWG is his perfect little world. If SWG gets shut down his reality is gone.

He's admitted to never playing another MMO (except maybe for a free trial) so he doesn't understand that SWG is not the way they are normally run. To him having to find work arounds for a basic thing such as a keymap or a UI are the norm, bugs and gamebreaking issues are just something you deal with. All the things SWG blatantly ripped off from WOW are all new to him, he's never done an instance in WOW or any other game to see how it should be done.
I really think he just enjoys arguing with people, and trying to be the guy who proves everyone wrong. If everyone said SWG was great he would be the one bashing it.

There's 168 hours in a week, and his Xfire sig shows 115 hours this past week, holy christ. Seriously Obraik, consider another MMO and maybe, just maybe you'll then see just how bad SWG is compared to some of the other titles.

I think you've answered your own question. This game won't die because it's on the station pass. Station pass acts as life support to many SOE games out now IMHO.

This is true, you can find the station package for $9 (Canadian $ even) then pay the $30/mo, and most of the games on the pass are "dead" or not doing very well, Planetside, MxO, EQ, SWG, while VG and PoTBS are slowly sliding on a downwards hill.

As for rigs, my rig can run most things at max settings including Crysis but when I run things like SWG or VG, they run like shit. SWG caps at 30 fps regardless of your card's max capacity and stutters in cities like Theed (even with no other players around), Call of Duty 4 can run at 90 fps, even Tabula Rasa runs at 70+ fps.

I think TR is a cool game, great change from the hundreds of fantasy clone games out there right now, but TR is a bit too shallow- got 2 chars up to 30 and cloned 4 different classes and made some hybrids and it went downhill from there, much like my 4 months of WoW when I got my shaman up into the 50's I lost interest (also got a priest to 46, hunter to 42, warrior to 36).

What I liked best about TR is the chat (most will disagree), since it's global across the entire server, you'll come across any subject conversation and very rarely any drama bullshit. The social part is a largely missing part in most MMO games including WoW, WoW is very anti-social and when you get into a major city with /trade chat, it's all drama wars and makes you want to turn it off.

I'm not playing any MMOs now, I feel like I lost interest in that game genre now and went back to playing FPS games such as Call of Duty 4 and Day of Defeat: Source. Perhaps I'll return to MMOs when Bioware announces their project.

May i comment on this....and sort of correct you on this, unless you have some sort of "proof" to backup that TR was meant a fantasy game? but if the following info proofs to be wrong i apologize, but as far i know The backdrop of their world was a blending of sci-fi and martial arts served up in an awkward futuristic art nouveau style. <<click link for full articel.

RG's demo at E3 in 2004 or 2005 had fantasy characters, it was very very different than what it is now. There should be a video of it on youtube.

It's probably the ONLY MMO he's ever played. :)

The last episode of this rumour also game from a gaming news site.
Why aren't I excited about this news? It's not that I don't want to see another Star Wars MMO but I'm not going to get excited about "friend of a friend" type news.

Hey do remember or know how we first heard about the NGE? It was also a "friend of a friend" type thing, it started in August-Sept 2005 and none of us took it seriously, things like "Jedi as a starting profession" with reference "from an inside source" and such, I still remember the very first post on the official SWG forums referring to it, "I just came back from Austin, we tested this new star wars game and I think it's awesome". And this was just 4 months into the combat upgrade, who was to take THAT seriously? It wasn't until the end of Octobor (a few days after publish 24) a dev stepped in and announced that it was going on testcenter, that's when servers like Bria were littered with protesters that forced CSRs to spawn Jedi sentinals and SBDs.

If you don't believe me, look up that shit, there's a site somewhere out there (I forget the url) that has archived forum posts.
