Correct, modern shooters aren't meant for long term play, DICE already announced BF4 less than a year after releasing BF3. I played BF1942 from beta 2002 up until 2009, PS1 from beta 2002 til earlier in 2011 (with many breaks), and would've kept playing SWG past 2005 if it wasn't for the NGE (well I play the *other*SWG right now), and other games like Day of Defeat, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, CoD4, Medal of Honor: AA on and off through the past decade, now I would play a shooter for less than a year as most would.

I don't see very much depth in PS2, a BR1 can drive and equip everything in the game that would require allocated certs in PS1, in PS1 you developed your character to a specific role but in PS2 you're jack of all trades.

PS2 is basically farmville in full 3D, there's very little value in defending which is why a majority of groups just fall back to the next nearest base instead of staying to defend what's being attacked, and you get way more xp capturing than succesfully defending (which happens very rarely).

It's SOE's fault for the design, the towers were much better in PS1 because it buys time for reinforcements to arrive than being unable to leave the spawn building to cap the terminal outside in PS2. PS2 is designed to cap and farm, cap and farm, period.

Originally posted by Neanderthal I felt I should post an update.  The instant action deployment options were the thing I was missing.  Somehow I just hadn't caught onto that yet but now that I have it has helped a lot.

What is the instant action mechanic?  Like a teleport to someplace where you're needed?

Yes there are "hot spots" around the maps/continents and you click on it for instant action and it drops you right into the fight without having to travel.

Planetside 1 didn't have that for the first few years so we had to wait 10 minutes for a transport bus to get to where we wanted, or just drive/fly there through warpgates which felt alot more like military strategy than instant action does.

Defending bases doesn't give anything so most squads/outfits just caps empty bases and then lets the enemy cap what they left behind and then recap later. So most groups will just fall back to another base when the base they're at is being attacked.

I stopped playing and uninstalled PS2 though, due to the liberator spam, it's just no fun and devs show no sign of willing to fix that because they made a post a few weeks ago saying AA is a deterrent to air so the counter to air is more air.

K/D kids will be frustrated by this, but you have to be tolerant to dying in those situations.

The K/D kids are already flying liberators and telling everyone else to suck it up or learn to fight libs. You gain a massive dose of kills per death while in a lib.

I have been playing all week and have been in many large battles lasting hours at a time.  I see no indication of a decline and frequently get killed by players with a BR under 10 so there must be new blood coming in.

Not saying the game is all that, just saying I dont see the decline and lack of battles you mention.

Most of those low BR players are new accounts from banned players.

There's NO reason to stay and defend the base in PS2, most of us just leave and the ones that stay want to get kills.

There's a ton of things SOE needs to change and fix, AA vs air is one of them.

I pretty much stopped playing myself thanks to the air imbalance. I played PS1 for 5 years straight before taking a break, but with PS2 I stopped after a month.

Something's wrong.

Count me out

Your post is ignorant you haven't played it but judge it based on what you read or think you know.  Well you're wrong.   The fact is your opinion was already formed without even seeing what you can buy in the cash shop because you say you have no desire to play a f2p game.    A company should invets 20-30 mil + in a new game charge nothing for it and just let you play it for free with no cash shop ?    If you ever form an MMO company please warn your investors of your brilliant business model.

Please delete your post.

But you can't just go into the game splash say £100 and then have some sort of uber character. It just doesn't work like that.
no all things make you more powerfull are bought with $$

rocket pods = $$

tank guns = $$

rocket launchers = $$

lib gun = $$

these things make you kill alot of players

ofc you can buy them with certs but to get 1000 certs how long it will take you if an avarege player gets 20 certs per hour

then the upgrades that can reach 1000 certs alone

An average player can rack up 30 certs per HALF an hour, it isn't hard to do. The average player with CoD in mind will barely get any certs if he's going to be sniping on hill sall day.

Oh and rocket pods IMO are the only severe imbalancing issue at the moment, lib guns aren't that expensive, I bought a couple already and they're only 100 certs each and upgraded them a little, the Zepher is bound to be nerfed soon anyways- all the rocket pod spammers are getting tired of being killed by 20+ AA MAXs so they're going with Libs now.

Afte5r this weekend, I'm feeling the population hit myself.

0= Off ,1=low , 2=medium , 3=High , 4=Ultra high.

0 and 4 can not be attained through the user interface. it will only go to low or high. To get to ultra you have to edit the ini and put 4 in there or to turn something off you have to set it to 0

This isn't the case with some settings, such as texturequality, lightingquality and particlesLOD, high for lightning and particles is 2 and high for texture is 1, I'm not even sure if 4 works on them. Some people say they use 5 but 5 is the same as -1 (default).

As for referdistance, i've played with 750, 1000, 1250, 1500, 2000 and there's VERY little change in fps, 750 is terrible for when you're dropping in a pod as the ground is completely white until you're close (and too late to reposition your pod) and 750 can be a problem when using anti-air. For nwo I'm using 1500.

Originally posted by TeknoBug OP, just curious, what gives you the impression that it's pay 2 win? I don't think it is, sure, buying equipment with money and subbing gets you certs and levels faster but in the end a non paying player can have the same things that you paid for.
On the PS2 forums the kids are all upset that its could take them a week or two to buy a sidegrade gun in game, so those who purchased said guns for $7 ($3.50 on sale) have paid to win....because to them, those guns are actually better by a lot...when in reality there is almost no noticable difference.

I could see the argument for vehicle weapons being somewhat pay to win, despite you can easily get them in game for no money.

These derpy kids really assume that hundreds of people are going to work a full time job for free so they can play a game for free i guess.  Future looks bright doesnt it?

I've used alot of weapons on all 3 factions (many through the trial) and I have to say the cheap ones (like the 100 cert or 250 cert) upgrade guns are actually good. I've been liking the GD-22S and AC-X11 carbine for NC and the Equinox burst for VS. ~200 certs only take a couple hours if you know how to rack up certs *cough*healrepair*cough*. The only thing I spent SC on so far was the weapon starter pack for my new toon I made after I quit playing my first toon on Connery due to horrible lag and such. Many of the upgrade weapons for some of the vehicles are fairly cheap too and are worth it, I'm working on decking out my Lib.

OP, just curious, what gives you the impression that it's pay 2 win? I don't think it is, sure, buying equipment with money and subbing gets you certs and levels faster but in the end a non paying player can have the same things that you paid for.

Nah PS2 will never have an esport, it's not designed for that kind of thing. Battlefield 3 is hugely pupular yet EA/DICE doesn't seem the least interested in esport of any kind.

WoW pvp/arena... hahaha, didn't Blizzard admit arena was a mistake?

Strategic reason... lol I bet they were expecting CoH players to jump over to GW2, I know lots of people in my CoH outfit that doesn't like the GW/fantasy genre.

Boggles the mind to why they would shut down something that's raking in almost $3m per quarter?

Read the Game Update 1 patch notes over at PS2 forums.

I only encountered one hacker all the way since early beta, but this past weekend (double xp weekend) was a car wreck. There were plenty of players I couldn't do any damage to even though I was getting the hit indicator on them and they'd just turn to you and kill you in half a second, and then there were plenty of flickering/warping players- there was a broadcast coming up on the screen every 2 minutes saying operatives were watching so it must've been that bad.

Hopefully it'll go back to normal again, from what I heard there was a certain hack community that planned a hack raid on PS2 this weekend.

Struggling to gain certs as a new player is understandable (not to mention MOST new players do nothing but snipe and play light assault) but you can get hundreds of certs in an hour or 2- drive an AMS and heal and repair. The upgraded heavy assault rifles (100 certs) are actually a decent upgrade for close quarters, but I don't bother with HA as I play engineer the most.

Pretty much all day yesterday we were receiving a message onscreen saying operatives are watching, someone mentioned a certain hack went free (probably used to cost $) and is very widespread now so that might make sense. I saw 3 of them last night and my entire platoon reported them.

Seriously, i have been playing daily since tech test and have yet to see an obvious cheater.

There had been a couple occasions where i was headshot the moment i stuck my head out or ran around a corner.

Suspicious but not necesarily an aimbotter.

There actually are hacks around but the amount is greatly exaggerated.

Paranoid dramaqueens.

75%.... get real, maybe 0.0075%

John Smedley posted on twitter that hackers are being banned left and right, so yeah must be 0.0075%.
