I'm used to that, in beta I used to get 6GB updates, lol

yea in PS1 you could own a continent. in PS2 that's not possible.
I don't know how it worked in PS1, but in PS2 you can dominate a continent. Dominating gives your faction discounts on equipment.

In PS1 you could own the continent 100%, and it was possible to sanctuary lock, VS did it twice in the past 10 years of PS1 and even managed to get inside the enemy's sanctuary until SOE patched that out (around the time Core Combat came out). In PS2 you can't own a continent 100% becaue the hex grid around the warpgate is unchangable and you can't get close to it.

i have NEVER seen the same level of bugs in any other developer outside of SOE.

Oh really? There were quite a few games I've played that were super buggy.

SOE GOT A WINNER maasively massive battles hoooooooly crap.

You're about 10 years too late, PS1 was a bit more massive than PS2 is right now, I haven't been in a fight in PS2 as big as the ones I've been in PS1 yet, I recall during beta of PS1 and during the early days of release facing 300-400+ players in a single area- granted it got laggy but so does PS2 (at least on Connery). PS1 was overall a much better game than PS2.

I like PS2, I didn't buy alpha squad because I wasn't sure how much time I'd be spending playing this game, I don't regret not buying it but at least I still get my beta and veteran decals and titles and I paid a sub to it for the extra xp increase and I grabbed some double SC back on friday.

It's using over a gig of GPU VRAM and 2.3GB of system RAM on my system, i wouldn't call that low but around normal. 64bit doesn't really have anything to do with anything, most games are still 32bit.

Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2 and now Planetside 2 are "Large Address Aware" meaning they can take advantage of 4GB or more ram, it's 64bit coded but essentially still 32bit, not quite sure how to describe it. Why does anyone still use 32bit OS anyways, CPU architecture has been 64bit since 2005 or 2006 and almost everyone has 4GB or more ram which 32bit Windows can't take advantage of, besides 64bit OS usually has 32bit libraries to run 32bit programs with. It's inevitable everything will be 64bit soon, most of the things you find in Linux are in 64bit only now labeled IA64(Intel) or AMD64(AMD).

PS2 used 3.8GB of ram last night, haven't seen a game take up that much since the early days of Battlefield 3 when it had a severe memory leak.

Considering F2P, it seems Planetside 2 has it done right as does Guild Wars 2, Aion and City of Heroes (minus NCSoft's decision to shut that down). I have no problems spending money in Planetside 2 for unlocks because they're cheaper to spend with station cash than to rack up 1000 cert points to unlock the items and then use ingame certs to upgrade the purchased items. The game is worth playing to me for now and I just purchased double station cash on black friday. I also bought a few things in City of Heroes too in the past.

TOR on the other hand, I won't even spend a penny on anything in that game, I can understand charging for character slots (that's what City of Heroes did), gear and unique looking weapons (yeah right) but what ran me off are the quickbars, title, head slot and bank access. As mentioned earlier they can be found on the GTN, but at prices F2P players simply cannot afford.

You can perfectly pay to win. advanced weapons for example. Still im playing it and i like it.
LOL not really, sure I can buy the highest powered rifle (Lasher or Solstice SC) but 3 hours later a free player can also get those same rifles without spending SC.
There is no way that a new player can grab something worth 1000 points in 3 hours without paying. No way on earth. Don't bother arguing it cos I'm trying to do it. I'm not a perfect player but I ain't bad, plus I'm using +50% experience boosts (so I'm actually paying). It is definately taking a LOT longer than that.

Well 3 hours is excessive, but I know a few players that was able to buy items that costs 1000 certs on the first day without using SC, if you play medic and engineer you'll get xp and SC much faster than sniping, flying an aircraft or randomly shooting at passing aircrafts with a burster MAX, I got 62 certs in less than half an hour last night which is my record highest so far and if kept that rate up then in 3 hours I'd have ~300.

I use the 3.4x scope on my medic rifle since it's a long range gun and I had to tone down the mouse sensitivity (down to 0.20) to be able to use it otherwise it'd be flying all over the place with a slight movement of the mouse. I also have the night vision scope for the medic rifle too but it's terrible and very situational even at night (the black + is hard to see most of the time), I like the circle/dot holo I use on my engineer gun and it has increased my accuracy.

OMG stop, just stop.
If you have nothing constructive add to the conv. why speak? When you break down the game to the core you're not fighting much more than 60 people at time and the game CANNOT handle if all 3 factions went full out on eachother in one location.

That 800 players could very easily be ONE continent, when you look at each continent it shows the % population of each faction, last time I logged on Esamir had only 6% VS and the other 2 conts had 35-60%, and there were easily 100+ of us last night pushing the NC out of a base.

Back in Planetside 1 during beta I was in fights which consisted of 300+ players in a sinble base, it was chaotic.

BTW how do you know if it can't handle all at once? I was in beta and we had VERY high traffic on Indar a few times, network lag got flaky at times but it was still playable. However I'm on west coast and I play on Connery which is west coast and I recently rolled a new toon on Matherson which is east coast, and I feel the difference, there's less delay on Matherson than Connery. Briggs was experiencing lag and instability and they said it was bad hardware, so Connery could very well be suffering the same thing.

This IS a MMO, persistent world, players scattered all over the continents and can still communicate across the zone.

If you see lots of red dots, don't respawn in that area unless there are plenty of other teammates there defending. Try and find the closest sunderer to spawn at if possible.

Originally posted by Kyleran I see your mistake, it's a MMOFPS, and not a MMORPG Seems the New kids on the Block seem to not know there are multi-MMO  archtypes.

Seems there are even more who don't realize that this isn't an MMO at all.

And why is it not an MMO?

I was in beta since it first started but I didn't spend much time playing it, now that it's live it's starting to grow on me and it's fairly fun.

BTW don't waste time with camos, many of them look butt ugly and some of them make you look like someone from the other faction (like a yellow camo VS looking like a NC and gets shot at many times by his own teammates) and vehicle auras look like ass. Stick to improving your character rather than looking pretty.

It is NOT pay2win, this has been discussed numerous times, it isn't pay2win when you can get the same thing ingame without spending money. 100 certs only take a couple hours, 1000 certs is about a week if you play each night, I have a total of 8 hours so far and racked up 340 certs.

And Wolfenpride, VS on my server (Connery) is terrible as they can't even maintain 10% territory, TR seems to dominate most of the time too, I just recently rolled another toon on Matherson and what a huge difference, players on VS on Matherson seems to be much better than on Connery and I seem to get less lag on Matherson despite me being on the west coast which Connery is.

Greed? You know nothing of greed if you think SOE's greedy with PS2, you should try SWTOR. Everything in PS2 game is obtainable ingame without cash, although many are expensive on certs (1000 certs for many weapons).

In SWTOR at level 50 it's almost unplayble without the extra quickbars and you need to pay to unlock the title, hide helmet slot, access your own bank and guild bank, expand your inventory and only capped to 350K credits.

... greed.

Yeah it kind of sucks, I've been VS forever in PS1, and rolled VS on Connery and it's probably the worst faction imaginable on that server and it makes me want to reroll but I already purchased a couple things. lol

Up close the spread isn't noticeable, you'll kill someone fast holding the button down, but shoot at a building wall from 100m away while ADS and you'll see the bullet impact, they're nowhere close to where your ADS is. Shooting at a sniper with my Quasar equipped MAX from range is a joke, couldn't even hit him because every round after the first shot would go haywire.

Oh yes but it was pretty clear with a big orange circle that grew on each shot you fired, there's no indicator in PS2 on the spread.

Yes certain guns has bad CoF, but the medic gun seems to be the most accurate aside the sniper ones. I've been able to pick people off from a good distance as medic when I wasn't able to on other classes, supposedly the engineer (my favorite class) should be good at range too but it isn't, perhaps I should shop for a new gun with certs or SC for engineer.
