I noticed he said "open PvP" and "FPS element", sounds like he just should stick to FPS games with FFA servers.

I could post pictures of PVP events from Lowca and Tarquinas which would consist that many people as well if I had some, I doubt big battles at GCW bases happens that often. Last I looked it's always Bria, Ahazi, Chimaera, Chilastra and sometimes Bloodfin that's medium, 21 other servers are light and very light. Chapter 7 like every chapter will bring back a burst of population then 3-4 weeks later it'll be quiet again. Seems every chapter the game is slightly revamped in a way. |

MMOs for competition? MMOs really weren't made for PVP, MMO most games launched without PVP at the start. I bet you are one of those gnome rogues with super twink gear at level 19 in WoW. *SHUDDER*

I don't recall anything such as dark vs imp, unless you were talking about lightsaber TEF which applied to everyone when the Jedi ignighted it in public.

Starwars Galaxies Making a comeback ??
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 10/30/07 3:50:57 PM
To clear this up, Bioware has been working on this project since Dec 2005, and according to today's announcement they said "MMO" and joined up with Lucas Arts. :)

LOL I remember this, I drove out there to contact the privateer pilot guy and I drove around wondering where the hell Jabba's palace is on the POI waypoint and I even said it on ventrilo and nobody believed me. And this was during mid-life of the CU, not the NGE. |

Yeah 25 cents a CD and 50 cents a case. :P

Either it wasn't enough or their heads were too thick to feel it.

LMAO I can picture that. |

I still see Ultima Online and FFXI on the shelves, and I believe they still get sold. I however don't see games like PlanetSide, Everquest or other SOE related titles on the shelves anymore, last time was before last Christmas that I saw a few EQ2 boxes and that was it- oh and an old old old copy of Jump to Lightspeed expansion pack for $39 (LMAO) last Christmas and I had to tell the manager that JTL is free now but of course he didn't believe me. |

Wow no surprise there, my local EB Games won't even order SOE game cards anymore and I knew one of the clerks there that always dissed SWG when the NGE came out. Last time I saw a SWG game it was in a Sony Station pass package.

Returning Veteran - what to expect.

Nah health and action were regularily 6K buffed, many profession mixes were unbalanced but almost every one of those combos had a chance against another, rifles required mind usage and combat medic > rifleman, Jedi (master healer) > melee stacker, TKA > Jedi (enhancement), the only professions that sucked (and still kind of does now) were smuggler and squad leader and SL had their love for 3 weeks in publish 24 right before the NGE. Though one thing hasn't changed, gank squads but gank squads are WORSE now because when you get a heal off you have to wait until it recharges compared to back then you could heal until your pack was out or your action was out, and duels (or 1 vs 1 fights) STILL takes a long time in the NGE. |
|
I remember 3 weeks before NGE was launched, reading threads on the forum about this "NGE" and people saying they were invited to Austin to test the new game out, we were just laughing and thinking it was a complete joke because the CU was very new and SOE would never possibly be that dumb to do this after 6 months of the CU. Then I remember right when the NGE first came out, everyone on the boards were speculating that they did this so they could release a console version of SWG (X360?) due to the interface and crappy FPS-ish targetting that were added in, and that it seems to be designed to attract low attention span 12-15 year old gamers, which seems to be the case now after 2 years of NGE's life. At least 90% of the current customers on Nov 15th 2005 said on the forums that they were NOT happy about it. It's ridiculous how much I can remember over the 4 years on the SWG forums. |

I had a mon cal, 7K+ mind pool and often wore a 80% comp helmet with 40% stun, and as a doctor I was able to fix up mind dots from combat medics. Zabraks were a popular race, equilibriam was very useful for those situations as well, entertainer were able to give you stacked mind buffs too. However in the NGE PVP, I went to Restuss during the vet trial and was attacked by a spy, he had 100% crit chained attacks; 6K, 5K, 3K, 2K and by the time I was able to retaliate he vanished and waited for his cooldowns while I tried to heal back up and take cover but he killed me. He also was a general, he used a droid and foot soldiers and those ranked buffs while I was a private because I haven't played in 2 years. I haven't gone back to Restuss after that, and most people I talked to says Restuss is a waste of time now. This is so much like WoW PVP, geared vs casuals. With my elder Jedi, I felt the only class I could fight face to face are bounty hunters which seems to make sense, but other classes like officer, smuggler spy and commando squashes Jedi. Spy seems to be the FOTM and I can see why, stacking crits and camoflauge to undetectable levels. |

Expect the following: * much higher prices on the market, and weapons/armor/vehicles doesn't decay anymore. |

Why I'd hate to be a developer for SWG
SWG Veteran Refuge « Star Wars Galaxies 10/28/07 11:09:49 AM
I just saw screenshots of chapter 7 items, dear god the devs made a backpack with horns, soon everyone's going to run around wearing one with horns sticking up past their shoulders... Star Warsy isn't it? They could have made a Chiss Poacher copy backpack if they were going to add one with more item storage and 6 stats. |

Heh speaking of YouTube, here's a message I got from someone on my youtube account:

Looks like we are not the only ones who have the answer.

Yeah, games like SWG going "strong" when they lost $1.8 billion in 2006 right after the NGE (and also right when sharp population drops in other SOE titles) and this year close to $1 billion. But that's also counting PS3/PSP sales.

Their dev staff has changed at least 4 times over the past 3 years, Tiggs was probably one of the first to volunteerly and openly leave and she had a large connection to the community and rumours had it is that she was getting treated like crap by the SOE department. Blixtev by surprise is still around since the CU launch, he went from a BH focus dev to dev lead design and I personally think Blix is a bit of a prick and clearly is PvE orientated (he doesn't give much about PvP). Before the CU, there were over 75 members in the dev team, usually 1 per profession and sometimes 2 (for Jedi), art team, bug team, etc. That was plenty of manpower and resources.
