I just hope its skillbased, has free for all open PvP with player looting, and maybe some sort of FPS element in it. I also dont want it to be a button smash.
An extensive mount and crafting system would be great too.

Oh, so you want it to fail, do you?

Wtf? Unlike you, im not a carebear.

Free for all open PvP (with our without player looting) will consign any game to death in the modern MMO market, because the audience for this style of play kills off its own content quickly.
So the five of you who want to keep killing each other over and over again can go ahead and have your fun on ghost town servers that make the least populated SWG server now look like Times Square on New Year's Eve.

I could not have said it better myself.

I noticed he said "open PvP" and "FPS element", sounds like he just should stick to FPS games with FFA servers.

And da_freak, you DID say SWG had a FFA PVP before, which it didn't then reverted your statemen in the next reply.

I could post pictures of PVP events from Lowca and Tarquinas which would consist that many people as well if I had some, I doubt big battles at GCW bases happens that often. Last I looked it's always Bria, Ahazi, Chimaera, Chilastra and sometimes Bloodfin that's medium, 21 other servers are light and very light.

Chapter 7 like every chapter will bring back a burst of population then 3-4 weeks later it'll be quiet again. Seems every chapter the game is slightly revamped in a way.

Then you'd better just give up on MMOs entirely, because the sort of thing you want just does not sell to a mass audience. Because they tire of being ganked very quickly.

I agree! That's exactly my point. Carebears cant play, get owned easily, start whining and then quit PvP alltogether. I play MMO's for competition, im not saying im an ingame GOD. Ofcourse I get killed, but I try my best to kill more than being killed and do that pretty well.
If you cant handle the heat, dont take it. Simple.
This is just how I want KOTOR to be. My opnion.

MMOs for competition? MMOs really weren't made for PVP, MMO most games launched without PVP at the start. I bet you are one of those gnome rogues with super twink gear at level 19 in WoW. *SHUDDER*

I never saw MMOs viable as competitve PVP, it's usually pointless, I only like PVP in MMO when there is a purpose to it such as GCW standing or item rewards or zone control.

I have met quite a few people that likes to PVP but HATES PVE, which makes no sense playing an MMO.

Oh really? Hmm... As far ive seen, FFA PvP is the "inn thing" because yourkinds are slowly being extinct.
Anyway, I mean FFA like in old SWG. Darkside Vs the Imperial etc stuff like that.

I don't recall anything such as dark vs imp, unless you were talking about lightsaber TEF which applied to everyone when the Jedi ignighted it in public.

I persoonally hate FFA, I avoid FFA servers on FPS games. The possibilities of factions in KOTOR would make it at least a 5 way PVP war or so and this time I would like the dark vs light Jedi fights whereas Jedi in SWG should have been seperated from the GCW to begin with and have their own FRS, but no SOE had to make Jedi a starting profession and 8 out of 10 PVPers now is a Jedi.

After looking through the potential of Hero Engine demos, the MMO build looks like it might rock but will need a bulky rig to run the game on in a couple years. I would like such things as base or appartment or cantina raids (such as base raids in City of Heroes) and you can loot stored items in the bases. And buy a home in one of the appartment complexes underneith the city or build one out in the wilderness.

There's just so many possibilities with this Hero Engine system.

SWG will never get the player base they had back. Im hopeing bio ware is makeing starwars mmo , and that it puts swg in the ground for good!!

All I can say is that I was very happy to hear the news that LA and Bioware finally agreed to make games together again. KOTOR:O FTW (although personally I'd preffer it take place after episode 6 so I can still fly an A wing)
So in terms of SWG "Making a comeback" I can't help but laugh at that statement. You're right Sukochie, SWG will never have the numbers it had before. So to claim it's "making a comeback" because maybe a couple hundered more players joined in is kind of laughable (and I'm being very loose with the numbers, I'm sure it's not even that much.) if SWG was making a comeback, SOE wouldn't be planning to do free transfer/merges of all servers move them into a few new ones and closing all the current ones the players are in now. Say bye bye to your houses and all the loot inside them, along with whatever you may have in your vendors.

Its gonna take 3 years dude they just made an announcement and you dont even know if theya re gonna make a mmo, a fps, a rts, or a starwars magic card game...lol

To clear this up, Bioware has been working on this project since Dec 2005, and according to today's announcement they said "MMO" and joined up with Lucas Arts. :)

And to some funny coincidence, someone on the SWG forums discovered unfamiliar server names on the STation launcher, some speculate server consolidation servers and some others says internal test servers (but THAT many??) or the old Japanese servers (I think there was only 3).

Alas, locked now. Looks like it were indeed the internal test servers, according to this:

Regarding bug #2 in LostRanger's list:

We have reproduced the issue experienced. It seems that some internal servers (disabled, spare, test/staging environments, etc.) were inadvertently made visible. It's not a big deal, but it causes some pretty amusing conspiracy theories to spawn as a result.

I've sent an updated list to the devs so they can display a properly filtered version, instead. It's at a fairly low priority, but hopefully should be fixed before this gets out of Beta.

Still, fun while it lasted.

Yeah, well two years ago Jabba's palace mysteriously vanished, and SOE said it was just a glitch.
Turns out it vanished to be rebuilt for the Legacy quest. Part of the NGE.

LOL I remember this, I drove out there to contact the privateer pilot guy and I drove around wondering where the hell Jabba's palace is on the POI waypoint and I even said it on ventrilo and nobody believed me. And this was during mid-life of the CU, not the NGE.

First off on SWG no longer having any Cd printings... Get used to this not just with SWG but with many other PC games as well... The downloads are just cheaper to do rather then come out with a new box, and believe it or not getting a game in stores is NOT that cheap. Granted it's not the days of 3.5 Floppy Disks, but still there is a good amount of cost going into printing the disks, makings boxes and the like. Dare I say in the next few years your no longer going to see PC Games as they are now in the stores. Rather you will see Collectors Editions, with the plan old copy of the game on Steam or D2D.

Yeah 25 cents a CD and 50 cents a case. :P

I still think it's viable to sell games in stores, not everyone hears about new games and when someone goes to shop and sees a new title on the shelf they'd grab it, how would you find it on the internet unless you're actually looking on sites like EBGames or Amazone.

Digital downloads is OK, but mostly for those who know about the game already. Also not everyone (like me) likes to use credit cards over the net. Although it would be nice if more major companies supported PayPal transfers, I know WoW already accepts PayPal for subscription payments.

Oh yeah, I recall the ToOW fiasco. My husband and I had six accounts and did the pre-sale on all of them. I actually was having a good time with the expansion until the NGE was confirmed. I was disgusted how CH goodies were even advertised with the expasnion when ALL ALONG during expansion development it was known that CH profession was being removed from game play. Needless to say we put in for refunds and got them. Just about all the players I knew did too as they hit the cancel button. I often wonder what kind of beating they took on ToOW due to the NGE release.....what ever it was it wasn't nearly enough.

Either it wasn't enough or their heads were too thick to feel it.

Also when you watch each of the profession videos when you are in the path selection window, notice half of them has animations or features that doesn't exist anymore, such as bacta toss from medic which existed in the CU (and combat medic pre=CU). There are a few misleading things I've noticed to this day about the NGE that doesn't exist in game, just as much as 3+ years ago SWG advertising with AT-ATs walking around and you never see one of those ingame.

Wow no surprise there, my local EB Games won't even order SOE game cards anymore and I knew one of the clerks there that always dissed SWG when the NGE came out. Last time I saw a SWG game it was in a Sony Station pass package.

Something's definately up, all we can do is wait and see, LA may be doing something right here.

The same thing happened to me when I went to the Gamestation at my local Blockbuster. When I asked for a SOE game, the clerk behind the counter opened up with two Uzis, hosing down the whole store with red hot death, and then, when I jumped through a plate glass window to save myself, fired a TOW missile at me from 200 yards like he was Duke Nukem. That's how low SOE's reputation is within the retail sector.

LMAO I can picture that.

Think about it how many games do you see stocked retail that date from 2003? not many if any at all tbh

I still see Ultima Online and FFXI on the shelves, and I believe they still get sold. I however don't see games like PlanetSide, Everquest or other SOE related titles on the shelves anymore, last time was before last Christmas that I saw a few EQ2 boxes and that was it- oh and an old old old copy of Jump to Lightspeed expansion pack for $39 (LMAO) last Christmas and I had to tell the manager that JTL is free now but of course he didn't believe me.

Wow no surprise there, my local EB Games won't even order SOE game cards anymore and I knew one of the clerks there that always dissed SWG when the NGE came out. Last time I saw a SWG game it was in a Sony Station pass package.

Nah health and action were regularily 6K buffed, many profession mixes were unbalanced but almost every one of those combos had a chance against another, rifles required mind usage and combat medic > rifleman, Jedi (master healer) > melee stacker, TKA > Jedi (enhancement), the only professions that sucked (and still kind of does now) were smuggler and squad leader and SL had their love for 3 weeks in publish 24 right before the NGE.

Though one thing hasn't changed, gank squads but gank squads are WORSE now because when you get a heal off you have to wait until it recharges compared to back then you could heal until your pack was out or your action was out, and duels (or 1 vs 1 fights) STILL takes a long time in the NGE.

So its our fault SOE didn't want us as customers anymore and shafted us in favour of going after a new target audience??? Sorry, but I have zero sympathy for anyone who still plays. The day they shut down swg, I'll have a little smile on my face, though I know you have a lot invested what with your 14 accounts and will probably cry.

I remember 3 weeks before NGE was launched, reading threads on the forum about this "NGE" and people saying they were invited to Austin to test the new game out, we were just laughing and thinking it was a complete joke because the CU was very new and SOE would never possibly be that dumb to do this after 6 months of the CU.

Then I remember right when the NGE first came out, everyone on the boards were speculating that they did this so they could release a console version of SWG (X360?) due to the interface and crappy FPS-ish targetting that were added in, and that it seems to be designed to attract low attention span 12-15 year old gamers, which seems to be the case now after 2 years of NGE's life.

At least 90% of the current customers on Nov 15th 2005 said on the forums that they were NOT happy about it.

It's ridiculous how much I can remember over the 4 years on the SWG forums.

Yep, you can't 1shot mind pools anymore for a quick easy kill. Dam shame they removed this gem of an idea. O wait, nvm 1 shot kills in mmo's is a bad idea.
None the less the pvp has changed a lot along with each class having a defined roll now. They really tried to squeeze this into the EQ format more than they should have.

I had a mon cal, 7K+ mind pool and often wore a 80% comp helmet with 40% stun, and as a doctor I was able to fix up mind dots from combat medics. Zabraks were a popular race, equilibriam was very useful for those situations as well, entertainer were able to give you stacked mind buffs too.

However in the NGE PVP, I went to Restuss during the vet trial and was attacked by a spy, he had 100% crit chained attacks; 6K, 5K, 3K, 2K and by the time I was able to retaliate he vanished and waited for his cooldowns while I tried to heal back up and take cover but he killed me. He also was a general, he used a droid and foot soldiers and those ranked buffs while I was a private because I haven't played in 2 years. I haven't gone back to Restuss after that, and most people I talked to says Restuss is a waste of time now. This is so much like WoW PVP, geared vs casuals.

With my elder Jedi, I felt the only class I could fight face to face are bounty hunters which seems to make sense, but other classes like officer, smuggler spy and commando squashes Jedi. Spy seems to be the FOTM and I can see why, stacking crits and camoflauge to undetectable levels.

I am from a fold who was there at release and probably left before most of you. I am not sure what pre-nge, cu etc means because I was there before all of this. I think I left right after they put in jedi questing...it went down hill after that. Now I am coming back for the 14day trial and I see my account is still there what should I expect?

Expect the following:

* much higher prices on the market, and weapons/armor/vehicles doesn't decay anymore.
* smaller population among most servers, mostly concentrated in Restuss on Rori, very little to a few in Mos Eisley depending on server.
* Jedi being a joke of a profession while spy gets a blowjob (and even more in chap 7).
* "new" content that existed before the CU.
* cheesy animations or no animation, poorly done and ugly GUI, about 5x more bugs (encountered only 1 bug that affected me in the first 3 years but encountered at least 10+ in the NGE in a single week).
* lack of remaining vets that really knows about the game.
* PVP isn't what it used to be.
and so on and on and on.

I just saw screenshots of chapter 7 items, dear god the devs made a backpack with horns, soon everyone's going to run around wearing one with horns sticking up past their shoulders... Star Warsy isn't it? They could have made a Chiss Poacher copy backpack if they were going to add one with more item storage and 6 stats.

I WONDER WHY... hmmmmmmm :)
Soon.. very soon it will come to the point of dead game or pre-cu content. I don't trust SOE and know they are pig headed so i'm going to vote dead game since they will probably see it as a loss.
Gotta love corporations that have no brains. Lol.

the over all corperation posted a what 2 or 3 billion loss first quarter of 07 or am i mistaken.

Wouldn't surprise me if thats true. And i'd hate to say it but they had their chance... I hope they crash hard.

Yeah, games like SWG going "strong" when they lost $1.8 billion in 2006 right after the NGE (and also right when sharp population drops in other SOE titles) and this year close to $1 billion. But that's also counting PS3/PSP sales.

I'm curious of how LA is looking at this right now. SOE as a whole has very bad management and marketting, whoever took the throne of this company needs to be shot in the foot.

Their dev staff has changed at least 4 times over the past 3 years, Tiggs was probably one of the first to volunteerly and openly leave and she had a large connection to the community and rumours had it is that she was getting treated like crap by the SOE department. Blixtev by surprise is still around since the CU launch, he went from a BH focus dev to dev lead design and I personally think Blix is a bit of a prick and clearly is PvE orientated (he doesn't give much about PvP). Before the CU, there were over 75 members in the dev team, usually 1 per profession and sometimes 2 (for Jedi), art team, bug team, etc. That was plenty of manpower and resources.

During the CU, there were several devs from other SOE games coming to visit the forums and reviewing the dev and perhaps helping out with developing the game, some came from EQ/EQ2 and they were actually rude on the forums which led to Garva writing a post about "sit down and shut the F*** up" which severely backfired with about 700+ posts within 30 minutes. What a way to treat the PAYING customers.

I wish the profession correspondant before the CU had a bit more than just to "relay" information from the community to the upper management guys, since nearly everything the correspondant relayed were ignored.

I have no idea who Graypawn is and what he did, but I heard he was the latest to part with SOE.
