Were you interested in this game before it came out? Why? Why not?:
Yes because I'm a Star Wars fan and I loved the KOTOR games

Do you currently play this game?:
No

If no, please explain why:
Poorly handled game, terrible pvp even though I did plenty of it and my entire guild originally from SWG jumped ship from SWTOR to GW2

What MMOs are you currently playing and why do you play these particular titles?:
Guild Wars 2, Planetside 2, Aion, Landmark beta (although I no longer can log in), SWG*emu, Marvel Heroes

What compels you to post in this particular subforum as frequently (or infrequently) as you do?
Not frequently, but MMORPG's forum is far less toxic than SWTOR's official forum.

From 2003-mid 2005 SWG held a ~350K sub playerbase and that was when F2P hardly existed and then along game the NGE and pops dropped down to below 50K in less than 6 months. On the other hand, SWTOR with ~500K F2P is pretty weak, F2P games tend to draw in by the millions, but why do games like SWTOR and Star Trek Online lack players?

Back around the Christmas holidays the hacking got ridiculously bad (oddly enough they always showed up during alerts, so I tend to play outside of alert times). It's actually rare for me to come across a hacker otherwise, but last night there was a TR fracture MAX that was hammering everything and another TR said the particular MAX was spinning and snapping and thought it looked hilarious.

I picked up TSW in the bargain bin at a local store for $6, played it for 10 minutes and haven't launched it since then, I'll probably play it again on a rainy day.

That is a Sync issue that SOE does need to fix. It is not a hack the server does it to some outfit members sometimes. When someone is out of sync they can not shoot people dead they have to knife to kill. Most people actually notice they are out of sync and redeploy so that they do not get a bad name from it. Lucky it is a rare issue but either way does need to be fixed.

Just yesterday I sneaked up onto the bridge where VS was attacking our base and saw their AMS, ran up to it and shot down several people with a silenced SMG but then there was this guy standing there accessing the AMS terminal and I shot a whole clip into him and he flinched but didn't die or anything, then he ran off and I shot someone else and he died normally, didn't get to see who that player I couldn't kill was though. lol

Between having toons on Connery, Mattherson, Waterson and Miller I think Mattherson has the worst amount of hackers. Everytime an alert comes up there's always 1 or 2 people that completely obliterate everyone with a stupid AV turret or some BS like that, which is why I don't bother with alerts let alone Mattherson anymore. Mattherson has been a garbage server for a long time now, I regret having my main toon on there, been waiting for transfer tokens since forever to get the hell off there.

There has been reports of it happening on Connery too but I guess I'm lucky not to be victim of it.

I understand what the OP is feeling, but PS2's time to kill is nowhere nearly as insane as the later Call of Duty titles, I remember with the first Black Ops was incredibly fast paced it wasn't even that fun to begin with. Now with the nanoweave changes, everyone's going for headshots, I got a 9 kills killstreak which all had headshots, it was stupidly easy.

But with the rapidly diminishing population in this game, I find myself playing less and less, I actually came back from a 5 month break and already feeling like I'm wasting my time.

F2P games, where you don't even have to buy the game will have millions of people, even if it's not such a great game. World Of Tanks has 60+ million, and I find that game boring. And doesn't Second Life have something like 200 million?

There's a lawsuit against EA for toying with investers on the BF4 launch and "success", BF4 is rapidly losing active players so things needs to get fixed with that game quickly.

I know this is a waste of time, but what evidence do you have that a fixed monthly fee is always the best fit for a "good" game, throughout the lifetime of the game?  I'm not aware of any general model that applies to all games equally.
I wonder what he has to say about wow adding a cash shop. Their business model has been evolving ( IE changing ) for years. They've also been running ADs saying play warcraft for FREE!!! ( to lvl 20 )  for a long time...but then I wouldn't put it past someone here to say the largest most successful mmo isn't among the best mmos.
yes, they are milking, that fact is a evidence for wows strength

how many other 8 year old games, can get people to open their wallets, like that?

yes, that ad is bad, but wow still isnt freemum..only up to lvl 20

wow is getting OLD, and it shows. how many other 8 year old games do you play?

EVE has adapted better, but its so much easier, to do with a small game

To be quite blunt, I would have still been subbing to City of Heroes (and yes even buying something from their cash shop) if NCSoft hadn't shut it down, but NCSoft wanted to push existing players to Guild Wars 2.

Then why did TF2 go F2P? Why is WoW changing its business model?
TF2 didnt deliver, apparantly

wow is getting old, and the market has shown signs of new times

blizzard is milking wow for more Cash, while they can, yes they get penalty points for that too

theyre still MILES above swtor, both in quality, AND in quantity

TF2 was one of Valve's most popular game behind Counter-Strike before DOTA 2 came out. They were clever to turn TF2 into F2P, it rakes in MORE money.

World of Tanks has made a shit ton of money too.

Having to cough up to unlock hide headslot, personal title, etc. is just silly but at least with security key you get 100 free cartel coins and in 2 months you can just unlock those basic functions. There are other F2P games with less stupid stuff to pay for.

Lol.  Please, tell me you are joking.

First, difficult for which class?  Every class in the game could *easily* get by in combat with a single hotbar.  Second, preferred players get what, four hotbars?  If you can't do absolutely everything in the game easily with four hotbars, it's probably time to stop playing MMOs.

I'd love to see you play at max level with just 1 hotbar. At least as preferred I can have 4 bars.

Here's an old screenshot of my merc's toolbar (Nov 2012):

SWG did essententially go freemium with the Sony Station Pass

What? I don't remember SWG going freemium, I remember that if you had a recurring sub before Sept 1st you were able to play sWG without having to pay anymore up until it shut down, I didn't have a recurring sub at the time and wasn't able to log in after Sept 1.

In Feb, SOE is getting rid of the $14.95/mo to individual games and changing it to Station Pass for $14.95/mo access to all games. Planetside 2 and DCUO are the only 2 games I think are worth bothering with anyways, Vanguard is terrible and EQ2 is bland but I will check out EQ:Next when it comes out since it'll be using the Forgelight engine that PS2 uses.

Last time I logged in I had a pile of cartel coins (security key helps), but man just about everything costs cartel, enabling your character's title, hiding helmet slot, expanding bank, blahblahblah. May just as well charge us for breathing air too.

I logged in after a long absence from the game today and noticed a few things. There were 18 people in Alderaan .There used to be like 2. The time was 4 pm European time which is early morning US on Begeran Colony. There is one thing that will tell you how a game is doing is the market. Items have really gone up price wise. The dyes are selling for like 5 million credits the black one of course and crystals going for 80 -90 thousand when I recall selling them for like 25 k. I think the game is definitely doing better now then it was last I logged on about 8 months back. Looks like people are enjoying the game which is good for me since I recently decided to start up again 2 accounts subbed. I always sub if I can and if there is a choice to.

Look at it this way, several servers merged into "mega" servers so there will obviously be more concurrent players on, and the economy always goes up, problem is subbed players has the advantage while non-subs only goes up to 350K credits. The fleet per instance capacity was lowered from 350 per instance to 250 per instance (or was it 300?), anyways I noticed far less loitering in the fleet and more people spread around the galaxy rather than just going to Belsavis and Black Hole for dailies (Black Hole was dead when I logged in the other day).

End game seems like just gather as many cartel items as you can and show them off on the fleet.

wrong thread.

Just so you know Warhammer came before Warcraft did back in the 80's.

I miss CoH, but NCSoft terminated it because it wasn't profitable enough and that Guild Wars 2 was due out at the time (they were actually emailing CoH players an ad about GW2). Now it seems like Arena Net wants nothing to do with NCSoft.

NCsoft also terminated my account that I had CoH and Aion on, I planned to keep playing Aion occasionally but finding out that my account no longer exists which the Aion key is tied to, pisses me right off.

Yes they do. But I suspect NCsoft has even more.  I was sad to see Warhammer go, but it was all too predictable.  I hope the tech staff all manage to find new jobs.
Lets count NC Soft: AutoAssault, Dungeon runners, Dragonica, Tabula Rasa EA: E&B, WAR But EA dont kill games it kills developers here the list is quite long, to mention only the better: Orgin, Bullfrog, Maxis, Westwood, Mythic, Dice, Pandemic. On life support  Bioware.
Your post was perfect, up until DICE being dead and Bioware on life support...
Actually, you forgot NC Soft's killing of City of Heroes, arguably part of the reason superhero stuff is so popular nowadays. And yes, I do agree that Bioware is on life support.  Clearly, from the last few games they've released, their quality control and attention to detail have suffered at the hands of their new EA overlords.  I think Dragon Age Origins was the last title that Bioware did without much interference.
Mass Effect 2&3 were both under their watch. Mass Effect 3 was the best in the series up until the ending. If you think EA had anything to do with the actual story ending of the game, your EA hate is blinding you :P

And Again, DICE has never made a terrible game yet, and has been under EA since 2004. BF4 was buggy as shit at launch, but every previous BF game was awsome, as is BF4 since the patches went in.

EA killed many studios, but lets not exaderate just to be cool ;)

I was a big fan of Battlefield games up until BF4, their way of trying to follow CoD gameplay with BF3 and now BF4 turned me off. BF4 is an absolute mess in many ways, BF3 wasn't as buggy nor unstable as BF4 has ever been but with Back to Karkand DLC BF3 just turned into a Call of Duty clone with the stupid gameplay (get 50 kills with a rocket launcher for a weapon unlock which made maps like Metro unbearable, should have been something like 25 vehicle kills- just one example). Bad Company 1 & 2 weren't really traditional Battlefield games, yet they were among the most fun, besides BF1942's Desert Combat mod.

So yes, DICE is well on its way down, I'm not going to even bother with their Battlefront game, and I heard rumors that DCG are going to do BF5 anyways.
