Hmmm, i think i got a 7 day return to Wildstar code somwhere. I might go back and give it another shot. I was actually intrigued by this game.

I find it slightly absurd on those occasions in an MMO when you are queuing with several other players at an NPC, having completed the same quest-line, to be told that you are THE hero.

Because you are not all the hero.

I realize this is hard for some players to understand but when you are on the main quest and you are referred to as "the hero" then "YOU" are the only one on the quest and the only hero. Role playing wise they are all asking the NPC something different. Directions to the Tomb, where's that shady guy who took my wallet, who is that cute elf over there, etc.

The only reason why you think you and 500 other players are on the same quest is because you are not willing to just let go and immerse yourself in the story being told.

I realise this is hard for you to understand, but when a player is told they are THE hero for completing a quest several thousand of players have completed before them it breaks all immersion and is slightly absurd.

again, you are the only one on the quest. You just can't let go and accept that (whether you think it's unfortunate, good, bad, etc) this is the "single player portion" of the game.

You are the one in the solo cut scene (or however the quest manifests itself) being addressed.

It's a solo portion of the game.

If there were 500 other players who have completed the quest before you then you and 499 of those players wouldn't have been sent on the quest.

Well, maybe you are just able to suspend disbelief a lot, lot further than me.

That very well might be the case but maybe I can offer something that might resonate with you more.

These are theme park games (I am assuming you are referring to theme park games) where the players line up, get on their ride and take their single player turn.

My bet is that you are thinking of the mmo as 'a world' where all the players occupy and affect the world as per their disposition. Some are farmers, some fighters, some conquer, some trade etc.

Therefore any activity that happens in the world can, on various levels, affect all players depending on the role they adopt.

that's "a world" mmo. Some guild takes a castle and you and other guilds make deals, try to attack them try to get others to attack them, try to take resources, underbid, etc.

Everyone is a part of one great "thing".

but themepark mmo's are rides. You sidle up to the ticket seller, buy your ticket and experience the ride that quest giver has offered. Nothing you do in conjunction with that quest giver will ever affect any other player.

They have the right to sidle up to the same quest giver and take that ride or forgo it and do something else.

It's all about context.

Theme park mmo's offer single player experiences peppered with a variety of social activities.

No, not really.

Take this as an example.  You play a themepark MMO and role an archer.  You are an archer in an army who plays a central role in whatever over-arching story carries through the MMO.

The protagonists play out their roles, and due to your remoteness from them you are not party to all discussions.  This enables the writers to introduce some circumstances out of left field, some twists, some blind sides or some betrayals that otherwise you would have, in all reasonableness, seen coming.

It enables more freedom in the narrative structure.

You are also not left with the absurdity of being THE hero, knowing that every other player you have interacted with is also THE hero.

Get where I am coming form?

Well i do get where your coming from, and thats a part of what i loved when i played SWG. Even in the themeparked areas you would just be assisting the heroes or villains of the movies.

But what i also get, is that you might be thinking too much about what is going on, on other peoples screens. As long as i dont get their quest messages smotherd all over my screen, i dont see the problem. They are all just extras in my movie!

The good thing, is that there are still games for people who dont want the experience of beeing the hero.

Oh and hopefully to kill off the "going to the movies" analogy there has been in this thread.  Nobody wants to see a movie with 100 average joes beeing douchebags. Nobody wants to see a movie with 100 Aragons running around beeing all herotic.

But if you can't watch a movie without thinking that all the extras are heroes too, well then maybe, just maybe, your overthinking it again.

I've been following Wildstar for some time and tried the beta too. Overall i did actually like the game, even though the graphics and animations are very cartoonish. (Im not sure if i like it or not, havent really decided). It seems like this has a lot of potential with housing and so on. But i think im gonna do with this one, as i should have done with a LOT of other mmo's. I'll wait a couple of months, enjoy the summer and maybe play some Watch Dogs on the rainy days. This will give the Wildstar crew time to work out the bumps that all mmo's have in the beginning...

So for now i voted no. But that does not mean im not going to change my mind at some point. I still have high hopes for this game.

Actually, not looking at something can make it sort of hidden.

If you don't want information - don't seek it out.

This!! With extra this!

Im curious and can't wait to get into the game. I want to start exploring and discovering all the "hidden" things in the game. Yes, to me most things are still hiddens because i do everything i can to avoid the spoiler posts...

But i have to agree.....Its not easy beeing patient.

You can hardly call it a review when the author has reached lvl 7 out of 50 and chooses to ignore all lore and just click away through it.

And how about things like crafting, pvp and tougher content than the noob area?

Just because you agree with what somebody writes, dosent mean that its a honest review.  I think i will wait for an actual review, thank you very much.

You mean when Zenimax opens up the entire game for review? THAT is the scary part.

Yeah... That is scary!! The game might end up actually beeing an fun and enjoyable experience!! :-O

Back on topic. I bet he had the chance to play further than he did and try to immerse into the story.  But hey, im not the one who has to pay his salary, so it aint my headache.

Im looking forward to an actual review and not just a preview.

And meanwhile, i guess people who want to play it can praise the decision to make it a sub based game. That should keep most of the haters away.

I tried the beta and loved it. So im going to buy the game, no doubt.

Im not going to buy the Imperial Edition. I ive tried buying special editions before and realised that, they dont make me enjoy the game any more than the regular version does.

So why dont i preorder it? Well, i enjoy playing on my PS4 and i have only tried ESO on my PC. So im hoping for a PS4 trial version so i can compare, before i buy :-)

i friken love reading about EvE. every time one of these expansions comes out have the crazy urge to re-sub. when i do, i usually play for a few hours and remember that i can't do 2/3 of the stuff because i don't have the skills (which will take only the next 6 months to train)..

..Also i don't have a guild, so pretty much all the good content is out of the question....

...Also i don't have ISK, so i can't pvp because i can't replace my ships. i end up doing some mining(which is boring as hell)...

......and then i get bored waiting for my skills to finish....

.........and then i log in less and less, just when i need to queue more skills....

............and finally i unsub because i'm paying to queue skills.....

........................every damn time.

A whole lot of this...... Unfortunately....

Point is, mmorpgs should be developed from the ideas and dreams of their creators, not the ridiculous notion of how they perceive the behavior patterns of one group of Americans. Such a silly notion needs to be dropped and forgotten quickly.

Unfortunately it seems like a lot of companies have been focused on making money instead of creating their entertainment vision. And apparantly kids who get everything from their parents, is a large consumer of videogames. Therefore a lot of games are produced with these kids in mind :-/

I know that nothing is for free, and these companies have to make ends meet. But still, i think its dangerous for a industry, selling entertainment, to  look at previous ideas and salesnumbers, when deciding on a new game.

For me its all about the depth of the game. Is it a rather "shallow" game where the main focus is combat and gear grind with a little bit of, more or less, useless crafting. Then i think forced pvp is ok, not a problem. Its what the game is all about.

It is not shadow if the combat mechanics is deep and interesting.

Is chess shadow? It is nothing but capture mechanics in a one-on-one pvp (or pve if you play against the computer). You don't need crafting to have a deep game.

Thats why i wrote "shallow". I know combat can be well developed and deep. But that is still just one element of what I consider a true mmorpg.  Having one deep feature is still not enough to make a deep mmorpg for me. (im talking about mmorpg's here, not all games)

I think its a bit wrong to put all mmo's in one category when asking this question.

If you have a deeper game where ex. crafting skills will have an impact on the combat skills you can have (SWG pre CU kinda thing) Well then i hate the forced PVP. Why? Because i love beeing a crafter. Beeing a crafter makes you an easy target for people playing combat roles.

I know some people will say "Why dont you just hire protection?"  Most people dont want to do protection work. If you think its hard to get a group for  a specific quest og instance? Well, its way harder to get people to do protection runs.

And with no punishment for killing non combat people, then people like me are "free for all". So either there should be the active choice to join open world pvp or there should be a punishment system for beeing an agressor towards much weaker chars.

Just my thoughts on the subject..

I havent played too much since the update, so i will just stick to one problem i have experienced.

After the update i cannot play with CrossFire activated. My map and mini map glitches..

Other tahn that, it looks great ;-)

Voice overs are awesome. End off :P

I agree 110%

When i first started playing AoC i had this great feeling of beeing a part of a living world where the NPC's had personality and not just some text. After the beginner area, that feeling completely vanished. It actually was such a disapointment that i dident play much more than that.

I love the voice acting in SWTOR. Finally a game where i dont end up skipping all the quest text just to get on with the grind.

Im truely looking forward to the next chapter in my SWTOR saga. (The story of my smuggler)

To be honest. I dont even want to play the beta of this game! Yes i hope this game will be awsome and i belive it will be awsome. But none the less, i want the full experience the first time i play the game. If i play the beta i will play it, knowing i will go through a lot of the game one more time. I know some people say, thats cool, then you can grind faster to max.....But i dont  want to enjoy this game fast. I want to experience the universe and the stories. I want it to be all new when i starts my chars (hopefully) epic journy through the star wars universe.

And if i get dissapointed? Well, 60 bucks is not the most expensive dissapointment i have ever experienced!

I have recently returned to Vanguard, seradon server and im loving it!

If you need to group up, then my name is Xantari. Im only lvl 9 atm and not busy leveling.

I know its off topic but if you guys can reccomend a good active guild it would be fantastic.

My friends and I recently resubbed and we are enjoying it so far. I've seen people saying that the population is dead and that the game is slowly dying off yet every time I play I run into others and have always found others wanting to group. If you want to try the game out, there is a free 14 day trial that takes less than an hour to download and install. If you enjoy it, play it and actually help the population instead of worrying about what others think.

I couldent agree more!

Well, i just got back a few weeks ago and im loving it. I guess ive gone from the typical "hurry up and get to max lvl and gear" to "hey, this is actually an exciting world with lots of quests, stories and exploring to do"

Yeah the population is kinda thin, but wouldent it be even thinner if i quit too? everybody makes a difference.

You might say that im wasting my time because the game is dead and they wont develope more on it. If my goal was to max lvl and have the best gear, sure i would. But i doubt i will find a game i will play forever and as long as i enjoy the journy of my deathknight through the Vanguard world, it wont be a waste of time. Your life will end too, but will it be a waste of time??

Kevin Butler without a doubt! Hes awsomeness would bring everything back on track!

I actually have to agree. I just got back after beeing away since 2 weeks after NGE. Im actually having a lot of fun here. Lots of things to do and i still love the universe. Yes i do miss the old skill tree. It was great. But i still feel like im in the star wars universe. I think they have done a great job so far! I hope they can keep improving it, then im staying too!
