Let me give you an example of a WoW encounter (for those claiming it's boring or simplistic):

This is an example that non-hardcores can appreciate because it is at the end of a 5-man heroic dungeon.

Kael'Thas Sunstrider:

...[cut]...

That is just a simple 5 man dungeon. It takes skill, knowing your class, coordination

I'm sorry for the sarcasm, I haven't played WoW in over a year so I could be wrong. But is this the same WoW as I played that you are talking about? Is not Kael'Thas Sunstrider a boss in a 25man raid?

He's talking about the 2nd time you kill Keal'thas (5 man dungeon this time). It was patched in with the Sunwell. (Finally a new 5 man since TBC launched)

I quit WoW just before it was in, but it's suppose to be geared for people who raid. I have no idea why he's calling it simple.

VG so far is more complex than WoW in my opinion. Have 4 lv.20~ classes, and the amount of abilities you get (at the lower levels so far) is a bit daunting at first.

"is much better than anything I've played MMO wise"

You misquoted the OP.  He didn't come here claiming it was "better then any other game" period, he simply stated it was better then anything else he played as far as MMO's go and left it at that.

He did not try to inflict his opinion on any of us as fact unlike yourself. Better luck next time.

Notice I said. "something LIKE 'better than any other game'". Not that big of a deal for me. I saw that right after I posted and deemed it okay. When you talk of games you usally only compare it to games of that genre.

The minute he hit the new post button and tried to spread false information, he tried "inflicting" his opinion.

You're just grasping for anything to say.

I doubt EVERYTHING about this game is much better than anything else.

1)It's low on endgame content.
No, there is plenty of high level content, just not enough raid content.
What many consider "endgame" content. WoW (and more) have A LOT MORE TO OFFER. Crafting, diplomacy, exploring (running around haha), are not endgame content. They can all be done before you get to max level.

2)Diplomacy is pretty useless. It's not really incorporated into the world.
Diplomacy is a great route to take for lore-addicts. However, it is an aspect of the game that seriously needs to be reworked. This is something that will be done in the future.
Thanks for telling me something I already knew. The lore was only good for the first 10 levels, and i had a fun time while it was good. Many people also complain that you HAVE to buy diplomacy gear to advance further (need diplomatic reputation or something), I didn't get to reach that point was getting too grindy for me.

3)Some think crafting is useless since, named item drops have had their item level increased by 10!
How is crafting useless when people still need other types of equipment like parts for ships and houses?
I don't craft, and particuarly don't care about it (that's why I said "some think" meaning.... the crafters?). But maybe by "item levels" i meant crafting gear and weapons.
4)Hitching
Of course, it is so easy to lay this criticism against VG. Got no response to that. But, its like taking a cheap shot at a blind person.
Just another straw on the camel's back.
5)Character models are shit.
Highly disagree.
Good for you. Orcs are acceptable though.
6)On screen character performance is shit.
Again, highly disagree. Character performance is fine on my 2 YEAR OLD computer.
I get 45~ FPS in outdoor settings. It was not abnormal for it to drop to 10~fps in group settings WITH shadows turned off.
7)Some animations are horrible.
I think the Dark Elves running animation is a bit stiff, but I just don't agree with people who claim that animations in VG are horrible. I completely disagree with you. This is a criticism that is not factual about the game, it is merely your own personal view.
It's the little things that make the game feel alive. I'm not particularly one to worry about these things, I just want to play a fun game.
8)Plenty enough bugs and broken quests.
I have returned to VG after taking one year off. So far, much of the bugs I remember are no longer present. Broken quests? Didn't come across one when I played a year ago and haven't come across one now. Again, another non-factual point about the game, just your personal view. I also guess there's no complimenting a development team that has been hard at work removing problems from the game. I guess there's no such thing as giving credit where credit is due.
There was this one heavy chest armor my Orc Warrior had. It made him look like he had BREASTS! Needless to say, I trashed it. But, it's smoother than most people would have you believe. That doesn't change the facts that they exist. Some people may encounter more of them than others, it's dependent upon a lot of factors. I DO compliment the dev team. I don't keep giving it more chances because I'm a masochist.
9)Default UI is clunky and ugly.
Another personal opinion. Don't like the UI? Go into layout mode and change it? Still don't like it? Go and download a user developed UI. Practically every MMO has this same complaint. It goes both ways: either you like it or you don't.
UI is pretty bad. Maps are horrible. 1 map per continent, and it doesn't get more detailed. Zoomed in it's a blocky mess. I downloaded my own custom UI that was much better. But for the UI, text doesn't scale right, making it nearly unreadable, as well as the game doesn't save the UI scale settings. You HAVE to rescale it everytime you log in.
10)Font is horrible.
Running out of things to complain about?
Valid complaint, even others are offended by the ameteurish font. Some won't even resub because of it.
11)Helmets are mostly ugly.
Another personal viewpoint.
See official forums. Most people don't like most helms.
2)Normal mapping can sometimes make the world look unreal and ugly.
Yes, this is where most people complain about the so-called poor graphics of Vanguard. They are only poor if you don't have a decent machine to run them on. However, I'm on a two year old machine, running 1680x1050 on high performance, balanced rendering and normal mapping up to 100%. The world looks quite LOVELY to me.
Uh... I ran this game pretty much just below max settings thank you. The world doesn't change THAT much from where I was
13)Normal mapping is needed to keep mountains from looking like shit.
Another personal viewpoint. They look beautiful to me with or without normal mapping.
Mountains aren't mountains, but more like big hills, where at the base it curves up from the ground. The texture is nothing but plain brown for the mountains I speak of. I kid you not.
14)Clothing and textures are underwhelming.
ANOTHER personal viewpoint. I mean, don't you have any factual criticisms against the game? I think clothing looks very realistic...especially cloth. You can actually see the weaving  of the textiles in tents and robes and cloaks.  The  ground textures are the most realistic I've ever seen.  Rocks look like rocks, dirt and sand looks like dirt and sand. This is  such a broad topic since there are thousands of textures in the game. It is sad to know that you have personally observed every single one of them and have still come to your conclusion. Ah well....
Rocks either come off as decent but silvery (no normal mapping) to wet/shiny silvery(normal mapping). A lot of armors are just a different color set. The pants on my hunter were pretty much just plain purple, but at least it had the stats right?

FYI: I've been joining the game on and off since May07. I just recently canceled my account, and waiting for GU6 at least this time.

Boy is reasoning with fanboys such a job.

I don't mean to hate on the game, but when people say something like "better than any other game" I find I just have to discount such a claim.

Once again, we have multiple people not understanding why I wrote what I did. Usually I find myself playing devil's advocate, just to get people to discount them.

Most of these are in COMPARISON to other games, BECAUSE the OP was also comparing to other games. All of these ring true for me, obviously. I'm not here to knock the game, but I just think it needed to be said.

oh and here's another one.
15)Horses are laughable. I'd rather run on foot, than look at the travesty that are horses.

2. Hitching is performance issue numero uno; remove it and I'd say Brad's prophecy of Vanguard being "fixed" by people upgrading their PC is realized.

I think GU5 is focusing a lot on the hitching. Read it a couple of places.

Reminds me of FFXI, which was my first MMO. Initially, I got it while waiting for WoW to come out. Turns out at first I disliked WoW, but my brother preferred it. Somehow I got to 60 and did endgame stuff up to TBC.

I thought FFXI was a great MMO. They did a lot of good things, that I sorely missed. So I reactivated a couple of times, and EVERYTIME it just reeks of a wasted time sink. I couldn't believe I actually liked this game.

Now I'm more for user friendly, casual games. It may change once college semester is over, but I doubt it.

I have played WoW and Vanguard to max level and raided in both and i can tell you that Vanguard classes have more depth and require a better understanding of your class to master.

this could be because vanguard classes have more abilities, or it could be because vanguard classes don't have 5 "i win" abilities and a ton of useless abilities.  I find myself using many, if not all of my abilities regularly for both of my max level vanguard characters.

It could also be because in vanguard you're generally dealing with two to three pools (energy, endurance, and a class specific pool such as jin, blood union, whatever).

WoW was made with the concept of pickup/play/have fun, with minimal impact on micro managing your characters in hopes of appealing to a wider audience. Allowing people with limited time to still achieve what those with ample time can.

Vangaurd was designed to recapture the MMOs of yesterday that many of us played and liked. Its just too bad how mismanaged the game was and how horrible the release was.

At this point, the game is playable, if not the best MMO currently on the market.  Especially if your favorite aspect of MMOs is combat...or crafting...or, well, diplomacy but that's unique to vanguard.  It's got a lot going for it.  Honestly I don't see how people still play WoW since Vanguard's riftyway system makes getting a group as convenient as it is in WoW.  So much for meaningful travel, though.

Aye, I play VG on and off these days, and its a great game. The reasons people stay away from it is its an SOE game (many new players have heard the stories of how SOE likes to kill babies, etc) and the launch was on par with Anarchy Online (another good game that never really shed the scarlett letters of Bad Launch)

Also there are the system specs. People playig WoW on majority have systems closing in a 2-5 years old. They are content with not having to upgrade to be able to play.

Now if you take a game like WoW, where it will play on any system made within the last 6 years, and make it with the gameplay of Vanguard (great classes, engaging combat, etc) you would probably see a lot of WoW players willing to give it a shot.

VG is definately more beautiful and complex than WoW, but I don't think my subscription is going to continue. May resub later, because my main problem is there's just not enough groups forming.(scenery is good, character models for beyond fugly)

Plus there's still plenty of bugs. I think GU6 would be the best time to restart VG.

Graphics are arguable and subjective.  I think LOTR's graphics are better than Vanguard's as the towns, water and landscapes are more complete and the artwork is better.  Vanguard's graphics are hit and miss some areas look great others look terrible.  One area where Vanguard's graphics do shine is armor.  Vanguard's armor graphics do look fantastic with the exception of the class sets from APW.

Vanguard's character models are not great.  They are stiff and somewhat plastic looking but they are not near as stiff or ugly as those in EQ2.  The water in VG is terible.

The artwork in Vanguard is mostly lacking.  Little details and touches that you might have liked in WoW are for the most part not there in Vanguard.

Overall the graphics are good but not great.  Some of the vistas are fantastic.  The armor especially the low level armor really looks great.  The artwork for the most part is rushed and lacking and the game is lacking in detail and finish.

It really depends on your taste and what your looking for.

This guy has most of it down. The characters mostly look like crap. The heavy and medium armor is nice, but most of the caster armor is bland.

The continent of Qalia is ugly, while Thestra is very pretty. Grass and trees add a lot of ambience to the game, very well done imo.

I disagree with the water though. You have to set a certain slider up to like 21% to get good looking water. The only place I know where this doesn't work is in a certain Kojan river. The underwater effects and swimming animations are horrid though.

Just going to make a quick reply here.

The customization changes were for the better. I went through it more than enough times through different characters, and really most of them were ridiculous. They mostly made characters only mothers could love.

I hardly noticed a difference between my characters. Once or twice I wish a selection hadn't been taken out, but I didn't care about it enough to get furious or jaded obviously.

As to the guy who said all wood elves look ugly, they always did. Can't believe I got one to lv.18. <--- wouldn't mind if wood elves were deleted from the game.

Never heard of CoC. I got the name from a Cosmonaut demo song.

Qalia is still very ugly. The arabian setting is just horrendous. Everyone should start out in Thestra... =P

I'm going to try to demonstrate a bit of the game known as Vanguard.

First, know this. My notebook computer isn't THAT strong:
1.8ghz Core Duo, 3GB of RAM, nVidia Geforce Go 7900GS, and Hitachi Travelstar 7k200.

These pictures are of Qalia. I dislike the look of this continent, but it was where I was at the time, so I just decided to take advantage of the open area. I was going to get this picture with a Wyvern mount, but it just wore out as I found this spot.  www.picoodle.com/view.php

This picture is pretty much just turning the angle of the picture, but also shows a red ring (mid far right area) of one of the later picture's position. First to show the port city of Khal.  www.picoodle.com/view.php

Another picture of the same spot, different angle, and this time a green circle around a later picture's position.  www.picoodle.com/view.php

This is in position of the previous picture's green circle. I enabled my UI for others to see, to see the yellow circle (mid left area) of the first 3 pictures' positon, as well as to show my FPS of 44!  www.picoodle.com/view.php

The last picture, I decided to enable my cloak. It's taken adjacent from Khal, and shows the postion of my previous locations. I lost some FPS because of being nearby a city, as well as the night. (I guess it's wierd for me to lose 5~ fps during the night but I do.)  www.picoodle.com/view.php

All the pictures are downscaled to 70% of original resolution of 1440x900, due to file size restrictions. Game settings are not set to high, in order to demonstrate what I run at. Medium low textures, low shadows, medium low trees, medium grass density, and 3 light sources at 10% (both low).

Edit: The post isn't shown right in Opera web browser. I suggest you set the web page to "Fit to width". Images will be downscaled more, but it will show the whole thing at least.

I bought the game last May or so. I didn't like it at all. I felt I wasted my money and I did. But I waited; tried a month before GU3 and still couldn't get into it.

Now I'm giving it a try again and enjoying it (I resubbed like a week before GU4). I like the change to riftways, it's much more intuitive for early players. I'm not going to say much more, other than... bye.

Telaki, the man is right, there's no denying it. You just tried to invalidate some of his points but with little effect. The thing is, the game updates regularly, and I remember a 10% before i quit. The 2% makes almost no difference, and the 2400 cap is more than what he said (2000). Sure it's been allieviated, but guess how long it took SE to fix the horrible game mechanics?

So 65+ is 6k/hr? Wow, i wish i had your parties. A lot of parties are either filled with people who don't know their jobs, and bring all these problems. Not to mention actually looking for the right combination of jobs takes SO long, you could spend up to 3hr. getting a party together, if you don't get the right combo, xp/hr goes down and just brings out the grind. Not to mention finding a good camping spot 60+ that is not full...

Of course, warriors HAVE to farm for 5million+ gil in gear 60+ just to be decent is fun isn't it?

Please people, save your money and buy a game that's actually fun most of the time, not some of the time.
