I was setting FE out after the horrible closed beta experience i had, but i want to like it and the free trial sucked me in. First off i started DLing FE SUN and its still not half-way finished, same as beta where it took almost a week and a half to finish the DL after many many attempts and it would just stop. Then i never got outta the tutorial because i would always fall down under the elevator and /unstick or what ever it was just brought me back to the beginning and then back down the elevator, hehe. After 4 or 5 chars created and deleted and multiple falling throu the gameworld and freezes i gave up.

I play SWG, CoH, LotRO and CO on and off the last 5 years and havent had any problems and have a new PC with lasted drivers and updates. I have a AMD 64 x2 5000+ with 4 gigs of RAM and 8500 Nvidia w/ cable modem so i would think FE should run as smooth as the other MMOs i play. If i can get FE DLed before the 15 days run out ima still try it again and hopefully the falling throu gameworld/floor will be fixed.

Your video card is the issue, I'd bet. With nvidia cards it's not so much the first number in the series (in this case 8500) as it is the second number (8500). I had heard this a few years ago. One of my friends started playing FE with an 8400 card and experienced some issues. He upgraded to a 9800 and no longer had them. Heck, my wife's machine runs a 7950 GT KO and she doesn't experience the issues you talk about. Not even once.

Of the old nVidia line of cards I never bought anything that was X500 or lower. If you have a friend with an nVidia that is X600 or higher see if you can swap them out to test the game. You should see a marked difference.

Yea i do really need to update my card, this one came with my PC and i had planned to update it but never got around to it, thanks.

When I played through my first time and got to the junk fortress, it magically wasn't there.  When I went to where it should be I fell through the world a bunch of times, and i have an 8800 gts.  I put in a /bug report after it happening 3 or 4 times to me in a 3 day span,  sent in screen shots and the crash file, and a day later I got an e-mail message saying the problem was resolved. Sure enough I went back and was able to go into the junk fortress without relogging or anything.

Moral of the story. If you have a problem like that /bug it and they'll fix it fairly quickly.

Oh yea, i /bugged it in closed beta all the times i fell throu the floor.

its probably fixed by now then.  Update us and let us know!

If i can get it DLed before the 15 free days run out, lol. I think i will really like this game if i can ever play it.

I feel pretty much the same way as most of u. I played in closed beta and liked the game but there was just something missing. No villains, no world PvP and no real end-game content. So i didnt buy the game and was goin to set it out, then i found a copy of CO on ebay for like $16, so i bought it and tried again. This time i was really happy with CO at first and went throu the same cycle, loved it, thought it was a sweet game then got tired of it after a couple weeks. Just not enought non-combat stuff to do maby. It is a good game with fun combat, but i am just looking for something more outta a superhero MMO i guess.

Hopefully this is something of interest for us.

U may want to try City of Heroes as well, it has alot of fightin lots of NPCs at once and pretty fast action. Plus they have free trials.

The wife and i are both downloadin AION now, im hoping it is really kickass sweet. If its better then CO ima maby pre-order cause im actually havin fun in CO now.

I know how u feel guy, i signed up for the beta back in like MAR 08 and it took till FEB 09 to get an invite. But the servers only up 2 days aweek for a few hours so ur not missin much.

It's not exactly fair (or smart) to require SOME classes to group for efficient leveling when other classes do not, since grouping presents its own problems.

MMOs should be offering quests that healers can perform by healing, and quests that tanks can perform by tanking. Not only does that allow players to level in the style they have chosen to play, but it teaches them skills they will need when grouped.

Another option would be to reduce the amount of xp that tanks and healers need to level, since they are not as well suited to great majority of quests offered.

MMOs do offer stuff that teaches tanks how to tank and healers how to heal, its CALLED grouping.

Ima probably get laughed outta here but i love the PvP in City of Heroes. If u like to jump around, or fly, thats for u, hehe.

I doubt it. Sex, drugs and games are always needed, especially if people have hard times.

True that, MMOs are way cheaper for a the month of playtime u get. Just for 2 people to go out and eat/movie i can pay for both mine and my wifes subs for about 2 months.

I also started the free trial last night.  I wasn't impressed at all.  There is way to much magic which really contradicts the story.  That alone was enough to make my decision easy.  Any developer that won't respect the canon of an IP that is as well loved as LOTR, isn't worth giving your money to.  I have already been down that road with SOE and SWG.

I also was not impressed with the customization. Certainly its better than WoW, but WoW has horrible customization.

Too bad.  My search for a MMO continues.

Please tell me how it contradicts the story?

The extensive use of magic.  In the movies magic was limited and only the most powerful could use it.

In setting up a character, I was reading about the Captain class, the description said that they could resurect fallen comrades.  Being able to raise the dead is a very significant power. Not even Gandalf had a magical power of such magnitude. To give such a power to a mere human captain goes against the letter and spirit of the canon.

On a side note, the description of the classes also states what the MMO role of the class is, rather than emphasising how the class fits into the canon. While there is nothing work with this necessarily, but it shows their view point, make the game fit the MMO genre, rather than making the game fit within the LOTR canon.  Degregation of the canon will get worse over time if a company isn't serious about make hard choices.  I don't think Turbine is up to it.

Well first off you dont die in the game you only get "defeated" and become incapacitated. Therefore the captain isnt resurrecting the dead. Also it seems you dont know much beyond the movies as this game is very close to lore and one of the reasons it has to be changed to fit into the mmorpg genre is becuase thats what it is a mmorpg game.
