I really hope either A) darkfall is released or B) they tell us its never gonna happen because I'm really sick of yall bickering on the playground about the same BS.  They should make a seperate forum for this debate.. because it's really annoying coming onto the forums to find info about the game and see nothing but you lunatics arguing over things that either dont make sense or are completely hypothetical.

To answer the OPs "questions"

1.  Why is it so hard to imagine why people would follow this game?  It's a cool concept. Plain and simple.  What they are trying to do is truly next gen.  Nothing like this has been attempted.  It is not a cookie cutter MMO that many  have become accustomed to.  Cmon let a man dream.  If Darkfall flops, there will be another company that will try to make a game like this.  It's the natural progression of things. Whether it be one year from now and 10 years from now, the age of DF type MMOs is coming.

2. ah the FFA loot system.  This is great.  You have to realize DF will not be a game where you must spend hours upon hours to achieve a uber axe of mightyness just to be competitive.  Equipment will be easy to get and inexpensive.  If you die and your shit gets looted, damn that sucks but you will easily be able to replace it.  This system will help the in game economy too.  If you suck and always die you better know a good crafter to get some more goods from. Or make a crafter yourself.  Again, you've obvisouly never played or know anything about UO because if you did this concept wouldnt be so hard to understand.

3.  Real Time dodging.  Hey we landed on the moon too FYI.   Have you ever played a FPS online before? Guess not.  I was playing COD4 last nigh with people from the UK and I live in Jersey.  No lag.  Yea, I know your gonna say "yea but that's a small little map with a fraction of the people that will play on a MMO".  You are right.  Technology advances everyday.  If you tried to tell people about the internet 20 years ago they would have laughed in your face and now look what we do with it.

Thanks OP... Thanks for another post with things that have been brought up and argued over 100 times before.  Are you really that bored??

For you to say there is no market for this game is rediculous.  Did you play UO, the King of MMOs, back in the day when it was good?  Probably not.

Thanks again OP, thanks for another useless post.

I really don't understand how people can think Darkfall is vapor.   Why would the developers devote 7+ years of their lives working on something that they didn't know was going to get released.  Cmon people it's common sense.  I'm sure these guys aren't living like kings right now.  They're working long ass hours with little pay.  They relocated themselves just to move where it would be cheaper to make it.  If this game wasn't going to get released they would know by now and stop working on it.

Plain and simple its vaporware if you can't see that by now you got problems. Hell let's try to even give you the benefit of the doubt say it does come out they'll need a good 3-4 month closed beta cycle minimum to iron out bugs and a around a half a month to one month open beta that'd mean by around February at the earliest it could be released if that all more or less happened starting tomorrow which we all know isn't gonna happen.

For the sake of argument though let's say it did the game would soon fold over and kill itself upon arrival much like shadowbane and others that have tried to replicate UO's glory days the fact of the matter is UO has survived primarily because it changed to be more like EQ, diablo, WoW, and other games.

If UO had remained more or less stagnant and let it evolve around open pvp let it was until EA bought out and took over origin the game likely would have fizzled out just like shadow bane within a year or two. It was still growing during that time period, but it would've peaked and declined just as rapidly a large reason behind it's growth back then was simply because it was the only thing on the market initially for a long time and even by the EA buyout there were only 2 other games on the market at that time EQ and AC so there was little to no competition for them to compete with and anyone with a computer that wasn't capable of EQ or AC at the time had to default to UO. EQ in particular had steep system requirements to run well when it came out for quite some time. Anyways that's my take and as much as I like UO's infancy it likely would've pulled a shadow bane if hadn't made the changes it did.

This seems to be about the furthest from the truth.   UO had a target audience for 2 years,  it changed to be more like EQ, and almost doubled its client base,  this is good, but  it lost what kept most people around,  2 years later it was below the number of people playing then befor it changed to be more like EQ..   I'll explain WHY.     Like myself,  my girlfriend, and dozens of friends who QUIT playing, but still paid their SUB,  because they had Houses, Castles, or Keeps, and didn't want to lose them incase UO fixed its mistake.   After 2 years of paying for a game we didn't play we finaly cancled.   KILLING a game doesn't happen over night, and trends take a long time to develop.   IF EA opened  a Classic server that used the rules that were used befor UO:R I know atleast 20-30 friends that would reinstall and be playing tomarrow.    No doubt  100k+ people would play a classic style server.   Thats not a HUGE amount of people, but  compaired to how many play now...  thats a lot.

I for one would totally play on a classic server!

Im so excited for FFA, it will definitly be my first and only server.   Only thing is.....doesnt it kindof suck that you can only own 1 battelkeep per guild?  Whats going to make a guild want to seige anothers keep if they already occupy one.   I see what they are trying to prevent but im sure guilds will find ways around it by simply making another guild with a different variation in its name.

Now we can only hope for full loot.....but i doubt that will ever happen in Aoc.

Last game I remember with full loot was UO... but I think that only worked because there was no uber gear anyone had to camp for, it was pretty much only what the crafters made.  Heck most people PvP'd naked anyways lol.

most specualtion on that would be a no, they wont play the same servers. But who know's. I personally think it would be a bad idea. I have both pc and 360 but will be playing on PC for the simple fact that easy text and voice will be usable, whereas the 360 will mostly be voice of some fashion.

Doh! That would be cool.  I mean you can easily hook up a USB keyboard to the 360, and they are coming out with that mini keyboard that hooks onto the bottom of the controller.  Even so I will be playing on the PC also... I can't really imagine playing an MMO on the 360 for some reason.. FPS yes.. MMOs no.  It's just not natural.  And I don't think my fiance would appreicate me hoggin the tv for hours playin AoC where if i play on the pc I can play while she watches tv.. although playing AoC on my 61 inch HDTV would be very sweet.

If you don't want vista or to spend another 200-500 on a new DX10 supported video card, you can play the game in DX9. I don't see what the big deal is, or why this thread has gone on for so long.

AOC will support more than just Vista and DX10. Hell they have some DX9 screeshots lying around the web.

I agree.  I hate to be blunt, but please people stfu already about this.

Nice.  So I'm assuming you'll be able to ride a mount at level 1? Since they give you one for pre ordering and all....

damn son i gotta put my hater blockers on before i come into the Darkfall forums from now on

It's almost like these people are praying that this game won't get released.  Can we not hope people?

A man needs two things in life.... love and hope.  Without love you will be lonely.  Without hope you have nothing better to look forward to, which would make life meaningless.

I doubt EA will ever make a server with old rules, as freeshards make that better and for free.

I tired a couple freeshards before.. The only problem with them is that it's hard to find one with a good amount of people playing it.  Yeah you can join one with a classic rule set and do all that good stuff, but it really isn't as fun because you don't have the mass amounts of people there to support it.  You can sit at crossroads all day and not see a single soul run by to kill.  Where's the fun in that?

If anyone knows of a freeshard that has a large following, than by all means let us know!!!!

Lets just hope this dev team has learned from some of the more recent failures... Vanguard, DnL.

I can't wait to make a dex monkey and beat the shit outa somebody w/ my quarter staff.

Your quarterstaff?! HaH!!  Ill show you what's up when i gank you with my deadly poisened kryss lol lol

I used to play UO from 1998 until they really screwed it.  Back then, there were no clans, everyone called it a guild lol

Anyways I am totally psyched about this game.  I used to be in a PvP guild in UO called Visolara on Atlantic.  They were at war with everyone, it was awsome!

Are there any guilds out there recruiting that are going to have many players in the Atlantic timezone in the United States.  If so I would love to check you guys out!!  I love PvP...  and not the crappy WoW PVP.... real PvP like UO.  I would be a very valuable asset to any guild and will prove it with dedication and the blood of my enemies!!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA the age of Darkfall is coming!

Amen to that brother!!!! I loved UO!! I started playing back in 1998 and couldn't get enough of it.  Now I am 22 years old working as a mortgage broker engaged with a kid on the way.  I just hope I can find time to play this game and love it like i loved UO!

The more I read about this game, the more I become convinced that these guys were hard core UO players back in the day                  (like me).   Many of the concepts are takin straight from UO.  I'm not saying this is a bad thing, in my opinion UO was the most fun MMO before they started messing it all up.  For example...

1.  Skill based system-  Can we say no leveling up anyone.  Takin straight from UO... you can even fight guild mates to gain skill.  I can remember regularly sparring guild mates to skill up swords and fencing and magic resist and the rest.  Yea, by fighting tough MOBs it went a little faster, but you didn't have to to gain skill.

2.  PvP anywhere - When UO first came out, you could kill someone anywhere outside of towns (excluding Bucs Den..free for all in that bitch of a town) Running through the crossroads outside of Britain almost meant certain death because of the Dread Lords lurking there.  You could also loot the corpses of killed players, which made banking before running out into the wild very necessary.  I bought I full set of colored plate (before crafters could dye it) and lost it like 10 minutes later cause i got ganked lol.

3. Player Housing - I could be wrong because UO was the first MMO I played, but I am almost positive that it was the first game where one could own a house and a set of vendors at it to sell your wares.  Many guilds also set up "towns" by building their houses on the same island and setting up guild vendors around it.

4. Guild Wars - One of the best aspects of the game imo.  Warring was the reason many people even played UO.  I played on the Atlantic server and was in a guild called Visolara.  It was almost a competition to see how many guilds you were at war with and how many people you could kill.

5. Boats - UO had boats!! Even though you couldn't wage naval warfare like Darkfall is claiming you can do.. but there were still freakin boats you could sail the high seas on.

I really could write so many similarities between these two games... I LOVE IT.  If... no WHEN Darkfall finally comes out, it will be the king of MMOs.  It will not be for the weak.  It will be for people who played UO back when they were freakin 13 and got depressed when they destroyed it and now are even more depressed because any MMO that came out since then can't live up to it.  Honestly, I am totally psyched for DF and will rejoice in the blood of my enemies when it comes out

Disclaimer- Everything written in this post is completely opinionated.  It is solely my opinion and no one else's.  If it is someone else's opinion too then you can rejoice in the blood of my foes also
