To the Non-Pvpers out there, which PvP model is the most acceptable ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/16/09 12:44:28 PM
The poll is for those who prefer to focus on non-pvp related activities, I just want to know of these models which seems the least abhorrent to the carebear sensibilities |

Your freedom is inherent, but other's respect for it is maintained by the threat of violence. |

General: Player Perspective: Seeing Red?
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/16/09 10:45:28 AM
I don't like the assertion that violence is inherently wrong. If I kill a guy who breaks into my house, I've done nothing wrong, if I somehow can stop him without doing so great, but if that doesn't seem an option, he had it comin. Same with the so called "Anti-Pks", their avenging the weak and the innocent is not "wrong" because it is PKing the offender. The day violence is no longer an option plan on becoming its daily doormat. |

Your Favorite MMO of all time (OF ALL TIME!)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/26/09 12:39:32 PM
City of heroes at different stages in its existence. Great community, amazing powers in its golden age, no stress, team oriented, great graphics, the best character creation system til CO came out, the ability to fly, enjoyable combat mechanics making it at one time the most fast paced and multifaceted pvp I had found, until "unlucky" i13. Was quite a game, once upon a time. |

A Feature no MMOs should go without

Originally posted by MMO_Doubter Good stuff, that. You just have to be careful the players don't 'game' the system. Start the instance with five, and then have a bunch more join later.
I definitely think there should be scalable dungeons. I like the idea of leveling dungeons which open up new areas to higher level characters. I never really liked doing outdoor content when I could be dungeon crawling.
Coh used to do this, if the size of the party changed while on the map, the number of mobs scaled up or down. |

This is very encouraging. I look forward to calling some of my Coh buds out of Paragon City for good and taking a few more dollars out of Floyd Grubb and Ncsoft's greedy maw. |

Absolutely right. You have hit the nail on the head, and obviously so, which is the reason I laugh when I see players say "remove levels". That's like saying to the lab rat no more pellets for pushing that button. Its about achievement, and the anticipation of achievement, which is exciting and therefore, fun, but all in the context of an ultimate goal each player chooses of those possible in the game. Without these things there cannot be any "fun" long term. |

The genre can't deliver what it doesn't have. Free thought and free expression in the marketplace of ideas is not fostered or appreciated in the halls of power. Innovation is the progeny of inspired visionary thinking and a desire to remedy a problem. As far as these companies are concerned they found a model to make money that works and they won't deviate from it one iota, so there's no problem, and they're are not comprised of people who possess such visionary ideas, or at least the people capable of recognizing the people with such visionary ideas. That and the fact they seek to hire sycophantic, boot lickers that believe in their corporate, risk averse groupthink model of game design, rehashing the same game mechanics and game designers for 20 yrs, it creates a cycle of boring games that have left the genre a wasteland of pre-made IPs and broken promises. |

I would think China banning the sale of virtual items (including subscription cards) would have been a more telling sign than an ad on their homepage. |

I've seen your resume and some of your affiliations but education, contacts and groupthink don't make a great MMO. It takes a vision and you need one. |

My list of "favorite/best 20ish games ever" hasn't changed at all in the last 4 years, or much at all in the last decade. I find it unlikely that the next decade will bring anything better than what I've all ready got installed and running on my 8-year-old laptop.
Its just that if for any reason you don't pay their subscription fees, or your broadband fees you lose the games you like too.

These sob's ultimate goal is instead of having you invest in a high end computer which is a one time purchase, they want you subscribing to entertainment software (already a 27-90% profit margin) like a little piglet suckling at its mother's teet. Slaves, you have no ownership and therefore no rights. |
