There really isnt anything new tho.

Last i read, and if you Google eq next you'll find it, is that Smedley showed the game to the SOE staff and everyone loved it.

It may not be news but they said they will have it playable at next Fan faire this fall. My take/guess is that we're looking at 2015 release.

I am not certain if SOE has the creativity to do a Sandbox properly but hope springs eternal and I shall await and see if it is worth picking up. My biggest fear is that they do as Smedley has said all future SOE games will be, and make it a cash-shopped freemium game.

Uh no! They have been around for years and the store is another way to make money/revenue. Just like half or so of the website real estate is for advertising. Do i blame them? not fully but I do find it annoying to have all those ads. It's becoming too intrusive of the articles in my opinion.

You dont stay CEO of a company by doing bad things. If Smedley was really bad for SOE they would have canned him. So clearly you may not like the man or his company but you cant say he want to destroy MMO and gamimg. If anything SOE is the one company who tend to save MMO from the brink. SWG is the only MMO they ever closed and it wasnt closed because they wanted to. It was closed because the license wasnt renewed when SWTOR launched.

With the wording I don't expect to see a UO or SWG style game. It is likely going to be more along the lines of GW2. I forsee a themepark game that will incorperate some sandbox elements but not a great deal. Until we can get more info the only thing I expect at this point in time is a themepark that abandons quest hubs and the traditional questing system. 

 

In the end though, none of us have enough information so it's a wait and see kind of thing right now.

Uhh NO, what part of the following statement does not sound like they are making a sandbox?!?!?! Sounds pretty obvious to me that it is indeed a sandbox game they are making by reading the comments!

"EverQuest Next has been redone from scratch so that it's not EverQuest III. Smedley promises it's going to be the "world's largest sandbox-style MMO ever made." It'll be playable at the next Fan Faire."

Sandbox style, not themepark, not sandpark! reading comprehension anyone?

And why is he doing the game? Well DUH to make money and to make a game they are proud of! I cant believe how many butt hurt forum dwellers there are here!

The thing with CoS is you have the choice. You can travel crazy distances very quickly or hoof it.

I am very sceptical of this game but i did plunk quite a bit of dough. This game appeals to me. I want a MMO with a living world. This game has it!

SOE has plenty of money. Not as long as a themepark MMO since the content doesnt need to be as huge as that of themepark. Plus they've been working on it for almost 2 years since they scratched the original work.

I am kinda disapointed to hear what folks are saying about the game. I was looking for this game to do really well so that it would help them make the MMO even better.

I havent played the RPG... but well.... so far the consensus here is that it's ok but nothing to call home about.
