Heh, seriously I want to know where some of you get your crappy sources?  Destiny has sold way beyond 500mil$, heck just with online orders the game sold for almost that much.    And to the person referring on how many physical copies were left in store, who the hell buys their game physical still?   99% of gamers pre orders or buys online, I'm leaving the 1% because obviously there are still some that live in the stone age. :)      "Hey let's go buy that new game at the store!"  is so 1990's / pre WoW, lol.     And just for the record, for any fanbois out there, even if Destiny hasn't sold 500mil in 24 hours, it sold 5x more than TESO / ArcheAge combined.  :)     burn baby burn.

What? More than 70% of gamers still prefer to buy a physical copy. Here's a "crappy source", not that you'll follow it.

1. Haven & Hearth

2. LotRO - Shadows of Angmar

3. WoW - Vanilla
ArcheAge ran pretty well at medium to low settings on my old Asus laptop. I ran it with no post processing effects or shadows, everything else was set to normal (medium). The frames were all over the place, often climbing above 100 randomly, but it never really dipped below the mid 30s.

All those sales numbers for all new platforms in Japan only show one thing, they dont care about new hardware as much as the westerners do. As long as they keep getting good games for their classic and last gen consoles they will stick to them longer.

Here in the west is the total opposite. Here its like a race to get the latest stuff first than everyone else...

it doesnt suggest that at all.

For all we know people in Japan are just buying more PCs and less consoles.

Not PCs, mobile games

Yes, even focusing on Mobile games (not just old gen consoles) can be a reason not to jump to new consoles over there. Thats my point, they look for other reasons not to hop on that band wagon if they dont need to. We (in the west) on the other hand, must get it on day 1 or die trying lol.

Some of us are like that anyways. I didn't even have a 1080p display until I bought this TV to go with my PS4 last November. I might build a new PC and upgrade to 4K in five years or so when 8K or 10K or whateverK is already the new standard.

My Laptop has more FLOPs than either the PS4 or XBOne.  My Desktop has more FLOPs than both of them combined :)

Real Gamers play on PC.

Being locked to 30 or even 60 fps is pretty bad imho.  There is a difference, and I've noticed it playing Destiny.  I can play games like Crysis 3 on my PC without a single shutter or fps loss.  While in Destiny, you get your FPS drop to like 15 all the time on PS4.  It's probably even worse on the XBOne.

In the June Quarter, PS4 outsold XBOne more than 3 to 1.  This is because PS4 runs things better, looks better, and XBOne had more problems at launch.  I have no plans of getting an XBOne ever, I went through 3 360s, because Microsoft made them so cheaply.  I still own my original PS3, it works like it was brand new.  I just wish I could port my games over to my PS4, but oh well.  Of the 3 consoles, the Wii-U gets the most play in my house (PC is by far the most played in my household though lol), except for recently because of Destiny.  The PS4 hasn't been turned off since launch lol.

Real gamers play games, period. Old games, new games, PC, XBox, PS, SEGA, Nintendo, it doesn't matter, they just play games.

That's weird about Destiny, I wonder what they did to it. I thought it was pretty damn smooth on my PS4 during the Alpha and Beta, don't remember any frame drops. But then, we were locked to what I'm sure was the most polished portion of the game.

So yeah...Consoles are for bargin bin gamers.

Are they?

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/09/10/pc-owners-more-likely-to-wait-for-price-drops-before-purchasing-according-to-npd/#null

Seems to me that a lot of people, regardless of what they game on, like looking through the bargain bin.

With 600 € i can build you a PC which blows both consoles out of the water in terms of processing power, data transfer and storage capabilities.

The "PC gaming is expensive" fairy tale is way to old nowadays.

That's almost $800, double the price of both the PS4 and XB1 here in the US. For double the price I would hope that it would be quite a bit more powerful. I don't see how that's helping the claim that PC isn't more expensive.

A much better comparison would be to assemble a computer for $400 that comes even close to the power of either console. Remember, the consoles are a complete package. Simply posting up a CPU, MB, RAM and GPU isn't good enough. I want to see the whole thing. CPU, MB, RAM, GPU (if there is one), HD or SSD, PSU, Case, BluRay drive, OS and input devices.

They still would not remove the blueray drive stizzled.  They advertise it as an entertainment console you remove the blue ray player and how do people play movies they buy at the store ?

No, they couldn't remove it from the XB1 completely, not now anyways. But they certainly could have a version of the XBox without a disc drive in the future. It may seem like a crazy idea, but according to this it's one that MS toyed with, and according to some rumors that are still going around the net they may still be toying with the idea.

I wonder what this might mean for Minecraft on non-Windows based platforms. Money talks but, if they're doing this to try and get a leg up in the console race, will MS really be okay with the game also being on all of Sony's platforms? I'm not exactly sure how this purchase could help them at all as far as consoles are concerned.

well, Minecraft already launched for PS4. If MS purchase Minecraft and remove it from PSN, Sony mind as well remove BlueRay from Xbox One. Just sayin.....

They can't remove blue ray but nice thought :)     It's funny really people dont realize not only does sony make $ from PS4 sales they make a small amount from every Xbox one sold from blueray.

There's been a lot of talk about a possible XB1 without a disk drive. MS have wanted to phase out physical game sales (and disks with it) since their announcement of the XB1. I wouldn't put it past MS to remove the BlueRay drive from some future Xbox versions and push forward with their original Steam like distribution platform they had originally planned.

Of course, that doesn't have anything to do with Minecraft really. But, if what's proposed in the OP is a possibility and this is to help push XB1 sales, then they would almost certainly pull the game from all of Sony's devices.

We'll just have to wait and see. Personally, I don't think this deal (if it even goes through) has anything to do with the consoles.

Almost no info to go on and they're already selling founder's packs? Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with a founder's program in F2P games, but this just seems awful soon. I guess they've already gotten just about all the cash they can out of MechWarrior Online and are now desperately seeking new funds.

I guess I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm not expecting much. If they half ass this game as much as they have with MWO then I can see them just giving up on it in the same way.

MWO had a lot of exciting features promised. Let's hope this game doesn't wind up like it, half finished abandonware containing little of what was promised, but a lot of hula girls and air fresheners for your cockpit in the cash shop.

im glad its coming to PC beacuse the game is multiplatform, but i will stick to the PS4 version unless the PC version runs at 60fps.

If you have the hardware to run it - why wouldn't a PC game be able to run at 60fps?

many companies lock the frames and if you manualy unlock them the game brakes (like Need for Speed Rivals).

Hopefully, if they do lock the frames for PC, they'll at least give the option to lock it at 60 as well as at 30, and maybe even at 120 for those people who love big numbers.

I used to whine and cry about MMORPG.com covering games that weren't actually MMOs, but honestly, who gives a shit anymore? What does it matter?

A website can cover whatever games it wants to cover. If a reader doesn't like the content of the site then they don't have to return to it.

A lot of things excite me about this game, but the one that excites me the most is the isometric view. I love isometric games, especially isometric RPGs, Arcanum being my favorite. There aren't nearly enough of them in gaming today.

Also, Haven & Hearth has by far been my favorite sandbox MMO, and this is looking to have a lot of the same things, but be better in every way. I'm really hoping that this can be my go to sandbox MMO in the future.

Hacks and cheats are one of the main reasons I prefer to play shooters on consoles. Consoles aren't immune to this sort of thing, but it's much more difficult, which means that there are far fewer people doing it. Those who do do it usually seem to get dealt with fairly fast as well.

Looking forward to the PS4 version of PS2. I think it's going to be the much better version as far as cheating is concerned.

Not the worst article that I've read on this site, but it's certainly up there. Check your damn facts. MMORPG.com should really pull this lazy piece of journalism.

tend to agree, there is already a lot of competition in FPS MMO's on the PC, and they don't tend to be 'hub' games either, its this amount of competition that might actually dissuade them from putting their hat in the arena after all, and why i don't personally think that they will be bringing the game to the PC. Its only a matter of time though before some of those games spread to console, or at least the PS4, Planetside 2 for one is one game that will outright destroy Destiny when it hits the PS4, its probably a good thing that the game will not be heading to the XB1, though i have no doubt it will fuel the arguments about which console has the best MMOFPS's

On paper PS2 should mop the floor with Destiny (and just about every other online shooter), but PS2 doesn't have the mass appeal to do it. Destiny is a quick drop-in and drop-out kind of shooter, players will be cooperatively soloing most of the time. PS2 is a game that only really shines when your part of an organized unit, something that I don't think most people interested in Destiny would be all that interested in doing.

I don't think Destiny will would have much trouble on PC either. The game's biggest competition (besides PS2) would be what, Firefall and Defiance? Neither of those games would be too hard to beat considering Destiny's intended audience. Destiny is aimed at the fans of CoD, BF and Halo who want to dip their toes in a lite MMORPG, people who most likely don't even know that Firefall or Defiance exist.

I'll simplify what would be a very long post otherwise with this:

"What does an average play session look like for a player on month #16 of the MMO in question?"

what short-term goals is he working towards?

what long-term goals is he working towards?

How much community interaction does he have on the way to these goals?

What impact is he making on other players at different stages of their own goals?

What an individual is doing after a year of playing is going to be different for each player and each game, regardless of what payment model is used. If your trying to say that P2P games inherently have more content than F2P games, then I disagree.

There's plenty of players who have no problem playing F2P games for years, so I don't think you can even begin to claim that P2P games always have more content, if you even were. You could argue the quality of that content, but quality is subjective. Some may think that ESO's PvP is just the bees knees, but I'd rather play PS2. Some may think that questing, or running dungeons and raids in WoW is the epitome of MMO content, but I'd much rather run dungeons, craft and explore in Trove.

The ignorance to F2P is annoying.

it's because it's a failed model based around the idea that a crappy product can defend itself by saying "well, it's free" while charging consumers money at the same time.

Nobody would mind F2P if they were held to the same quality standards as a P2P.

What quality standards are you referring to? Is Darkfall higher quality than Neverwinter, or Planetside 2? Did the quality of its game mechanics magically become worse when LotRO switched, or Rift, how about SWTOR? How about Mortal Online, did the quality of that game suddenly tank?

Just what's your measure of quality, anything with a cash shop is immediately worse than anything with a subscription?

F2P is Free to Play. Even if you can't have "everything" doesn't mean it's not free to play, it just means it's not free to play AND have everything for free.

Just in case you're still having trouble wrapping this stuff around your feeble mind, your idea of free to play is 100% impossible. End of discussion.

I wonder if restaurants start giving out free samples that are Free to Eat but you must pay for them being served, coocked, for the plate, for the restaurant lights being on, for salt/pepper and for the bathroom. Oh and for the parking spot.

a one-time fee unlocks the bathroom door, and a small reoccuring fee gives you full access to their silverware and condiments.

I wonder if restaurants will ever start charging a monthly fee, and of course an initial entrance fee that's around four times the subscription cost. Every year or so they'll update the menu and renovate the inside, charging another "expansion" fee. You'll get most of things on the menu for your subscription cost (as long as your ordering from the parts of the menu you own) but there will be extra "special" meals that you can buy, if you want.

It could happen I suppose. Hell, there may be some fringe restaurant out there that already does, I don't know. But, I'm willing to bet that most will probably just keep their current  model, which is already fairly close to F2P. Anyone can walk in, sit down, use the facilities, and if they choose to, order a meal.

I have yet to play a F2P game that restricted me as heavily as your analogy. Haven't found a F2P game where I can't download the game without paying (not being served), or where the game just doesn't exist (not cooked yet). But, I could be wrong, you seem to think they exist, show me one. Personally, I think your trying too hard to make F2P sound much worse than it actually is.
