I can't argue whether there are or aren't any good MMOs these days, what's good is subjective. I have a hard time believing that you've tried every MMO worth trying, and even if you have I doubt you've given most of them a fair enough shake to see if you might like them or not. I'm willing to bet that your always too busy comparing newer MMOs to the old ones (or at least your rose colored version of the old ones) to have any real fun. Your never going to get back the same feelings you had when you were new to MMOs.

If you really can't stand the current crop of games then a couple of the greats you mentioned are still around, more or less exactly as they were, all you have to do is seek them out. If you don't feel like doing that then I'd say you love the idea of MMOs more than you actually love MMOs.

As said before ... my opinion and comments on the current console generation are completely independent from the topic of Star Citizen, which is a PC game.

That modern consoles are outdated tech is an opinion shared by the experts in the industry e.g.

>>> PlayStation 4 will likely lag behind cutting-edge gaming PCs from the very first day it hits the streets.

That's not exactly a surprise. "If you predict how hardware evolves at the current speed of evolution, and then take consumer pricing evolution, already two years ago you could see [that] whatever [console] launches in 2013 or 2014 or 2015 will never beat a PC again," Crytek head Cevat Yerli recently told Eurogamer. >>>

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2029138/playstation-4-vs-pc-graphics-can-sony-even-compete-.html

Console tech IS mediocre compared to modern PC tech. That is a verifiable fact.

Have fun

There's a large difference between being outdated and being less powerful. It's not as if the PS4 and XB1 have AMD Semprons in them. The tech may be mediocre compared to some PCs, but then the price is mediocre as well, and for that price consoles offer an amazing amount of power. I'm sure you'll say that "you can build a way more powerful PC for the same amount of money", which is complete BS in most parts of the world. There are some places where consoles are stupid expensive for no reason.

I'm not even going to get into console games all being mediocre. If you really think that every game that has ever been on a console is just mediocre then your head is just too far up your backside to know what a good game is.

As for why only Joel has my phone number simply put I don't talk on the phone. I hardly ever even talk to my best friends on the phone let alone people I don't know in person. I've been that way my entire life and I have no intentions of changing that. That's the way I am and that's the way I'll be until the day I die.

That's going to make it rather hard to run a company don't you think? If you can't even talk to people on the phone how are you going to handle face to face interactions in the future?

Does anyone even play this game?

Not in the US anymore, not enough to matter anyways, which is a shame. SOE did absolutely nothing to try and help this game be successful. The EU version has always gotten content updates much faster and their cash shop is much better.

It was a fun game, especially back in beta. Now it's just a broken, empty mess of a game. I'm sure Daybreak will shut the US version down soon enough.

Weird, I just went to the configurator and didn't have a problem selecting different graphics card setups. Restart your browser, clear the cache, cookies, etc..

That's one of the ugliest cases I think I've ever seen. Can't complain when it's free, but damn.

No real reason to be looking at something with a 860M in that price range. Something with a 965M or 970M would be a better choice, it most likely won't come with a SSD, but that's something you could add in later if you feel you need it.

Something like this from ASUS:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA57X2RG0938

It does go a bit over your budget with shipping though.

Or these from MSI:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152666

Comes with The Witcher 3 and has free shipping, only thing I don't like about this one is the single 8GB stick of RAM.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152738

Doesn't come with The Witcher 3, has the lesser video card and is the same price, does have double the RAM though, not that that's really important yet.

EDIT: As for longevity, I can't really say about MSI, never owned one of their laptops. I know my ASUS is still going after 5 years, even if it is incredibly long in the tooth. Though, it wasn't one of their gaming models which might not have as long a lifespan.

You could give Dragon's Prophet a try, it's developed by Runewaker, the same people behind Runes of Magic. I had a good bit of fun with it when I played the American version. I've heard that the European version is much better in terms of support and the cash shop.

There is a different online feel to playing Destiny or The Crew or GTA V vs. playing TSW or GW2 or ESO. I don't think anyone is saying that the experience feels the same. So... if you don't like my way of differentiating them, what is your way? And please don't tell me that they feel the same way to you.

That really depends on what you mean by how it "feels". Playing WoW never felt like playing PotBS, EvE doesn't feel like Mortal Online, LOTRO doesn't feel like Haven & Hearth, Trove didn't feel like RIFT. However, having played the two games in question, unlike many posting I suspect, I can say that all of the games you mentioned, as well as all the ones I just mentioned, share something. The ability to come upon other players out about in the world or zone, group up with them and play the game is exactly the same. In that respect they all do feel very similar.

In the end it doesn't matter whether we call these games MMOs or not. That's not really what the whole argument is about. Just the fact that Destiny and The Crew were mentioned on this website would have been enough for a hate thread to be created, whether it was by the OP or any other poster, the original article wouldn't have even had to mention the acronym MMO. The 5 games mentioned probably are the best options in the B2P space for an MMO or MMO-like-ish-whatever experience, period.

Yes they share that they're Multiplayer Online games (MOs) but not all of them are Massively Multiplayer Online (MMOs.) If they all feel the same to you, that's on your ability to distinguish, not on the MMOs.

You might as well be saying that there is no difference between riding in a car or a bus because you ride in both and there are people there with you. They're both vehicles but they aren't both buses.

The ability to explore an online world, whether it's seamless or instanced, while meeting other players as you go is not some inherent property of every multiplayer game, always online or otherwise. The experience, or feeling if you'd prefer, of doing that is very different from playing a online FPS or MOBA.

To use an analogy, since you seem fond of them. It's as if I compared an OATS bus to a large city bus and pointed out some of the similarities only to have you come along and say "Well of course, they're both vehicles". Not all vehicles, or indeed online games, are the same, but some are more similar to one another than others. If you want to deny that Destiny and The Crew share more in common with MMOs than they do with a lot of other types of online games then that's fine.

I've never said that they were MMOs, only that they feel similar enough to not warrant a freak out if somebody happens to accidentally call them one. If the "potential" to get a couple of hundred people together and the ability to go to a main city and stand around with a lot of other players fundamentally changes the experience for you to the point where you can't see the similarities then so be it. I can't say that your wrong, only that your experience, and thus opinion, differs from mine.

Sounds like Salem is finally at the same level as Haven & Hearth was before Seatribe abandoned the game to focus entirely on Salem. That's good for the Salem players, but H&H still sounds like the better game for the time being.

Seatribe have, hopefully, learned from the Salem failure and are taking that new knowledge into consideration when moving forward with Haven & Hearth's development. I have high hopes that the 2.0 update will make H&H into the game that we all had hoped Salem would be.

It'll be interesting to see how these games compete with one another in the future.

No wonder we keep having these debates when so many can't tell the difference between "massive multi-player" and the correct words that MM stands for, "massively multi-player."

Massively multi-player describes the genre as requiring many, many, many players playing in the game world simultaneously to qualify. It does not mean 4 nor 8 nor 20 nor 40... it means many more than that can be online and in the same spot interacting with each other.

And the fact that in real MMOs there are also instances limited to 4 or 5 or 20 does not mean that other games that have a maximum limit of 20 or 40 playing concurrently in the same place interacting with each other qualify. Not even if you have 10,000 siting in a virtual lobby somewhere waiting to be matched-up for a game.

I'd be OK with stretching massively multiplayer to a game that limits concurrence in a zone or part of a zone to 100 due to server load architecture and/or phasing structure. But 20 or even 40 don't cut it as far as I'm concerned - it just doesn't fit the definition of massively multi-player,

Call them small multiplayer (SMO) or large multiplayer (LMO) games but to be a real MMO I draw the line at 100. All MO games are not MMOs.

There's hardly ever 100 players near each other in most MMOs, unless there's some huge even going on. Even in the massively popular WoW your probably lucky to have more than 1000 players on a server at any given time, and they're split between two factions and multiple continents. If those 1000 players tried to get near enough to one another to where you could actually tell that your playing with hundreds of others they'd probably crash the server, as often happens during large events.

I'd be surprised if, on average, an MMO players sees close to 100 unique individuals in a normal 2-3 hour session. Most of the time the only way that anyone is interacting with the massive amount of players on the server is through chat, something that you can do in any lobby based game. There might be thousands of players logged in, but if you can't see them, and are only communicating through text, then they may as well not even be in the same world.

You might have a massive amount of people logged onto a server, but all of them are either playing solo, or in small groups, or in instances with the majority of them barely crossing paths and not interacting with each other in any more meaningful way than chat. How is that really any different than other multiplayer games, especially games like Destiny or The Crew?

Planetside and Planetside 2 are about the only two games that I can think of that come close to what your talking about. I guess an argument could be made for DAOC, GW2 and ESO's RvR. Even then it's not like massive battles are taking place all the time, it's often just 20 or 40 man battles.

The Crew sure feels like an MMO to me. Everywhere I go, no matter the time of day, there's always other players around me. Sure, there can only be 7 other players in my session at any given time, but when you consider that the players in my session change as I drive around and new players come within proximity to me it's not so bad.

I don't need to see 100 people standing around in a main city to feel like I'm playing an MMO, just being able to interact with new and different people across an open world is good enough for me. I think that's good enough to be listed in the article your so angry about.

Hey man that's awesome, if it's good enough for you that's all that matters. The term MMORPG however, or the shortened easier on the tongue term MMO, was coined for a particular type of video game that meets a basic rough criteria.

It's really not a huge task to figure it out; we should all know better after all of these years.

If we're going to call every game that has a lot of people playing an MMO, why not just classify every successful multiplayer video game as an MMO? Why even have classification at all?

Things have deteriorated to the point where we might as well just have two genres: single player and MMO. Fucking brilliant.

Considering that nobody in the MMO world, not the developers or the players, can agree on what those basic criteria are, or ever were, it seems like a pointless thing to complain about. Everybody has there own set of criteria for every type of game. Complaining on a website that a game doesn't meet your specific set when it clearly meets those set by the site owner is a complete waste of time. This website is going to continue to do what it does whether a small minority of people are here complaining about it or not.

Also the website has forums for games that pay them too, they have sub forums for games like league of angels which is a browser game.  Yet they don't have forums for other games like warframe, yet they do for destiny.

It's about the money.

Have any proof of this? Just because they're listing games you don't like doesn't mean it's a paid advertisement, but if you have proof otherwise I know a lot of us would love to see it.

just because you prefer a PC over consoles doesnt mean everyone should be the same. I moved from Warframe PC to PS4, moved from DCUO PC to PS4, waiting on Planetside 2 to move as well, will move from FFXIV from PC to PS4, and already paid my $20 bucks to transfer ESO to PS4.

I do need a PC upgrade, but at the moment i can play every single game out there on my current PC, just not at 60fps for most mmos. That is not why im moving to the PS4 version of every game that goes multiplatform.

Im moving to the console version because i prefer it that way. I have a gaming PC specifically for PC exclusive games, tab target mmorpgs, single player games that have mod support, and the occasional moba. If a game goes multiplatform, i switch to my console.

I've been doing the same. If it's available on the PS4 I'd much rather play it there. I'm just more comfortable with a controller than I am with a mouse and keyboard, even though I've been using them just as long as controllers. I do just as good in War Thunder as I did on PC, I've had no problems keeping up with PC players, Though, admittedly it helps that a plane or tank turret can only turn so fast, regardless of the player's abilities.

And PS2 on the PS4 is fantastic if you prefer using a controller for shooters. It blows every other console FPS out of the water. Been playing it non-stop since I got into the beta. The game is definitely worth the time that Daybreak is taking to get it right.

Hell yes, I'd love to have SoA LOTRO back. Back in the good old days before MoM started mucking everything up.

It was by far the best themepark MMO, it's a shame that no team ever took the time to make an 'unmentionable' for it. But, I suppose it never was as popular as some MMOs, and any 'unmentionables' that may have been in development were probably killed off with the F2P switch.

Being wired I wouldn't think it's any sort of interference from wireless devices, but I would definitely try using the USB as well as unplugging and/or trying different peripherals to see if that has any effect, even if they aren't wireless. You could also disable any other sound devices to see if that resolves it.

Do they work properly in any other computer or device, like a tablet or smartphone? What about drivers or software, have you downloaded the latest and messed around with any settings?

If the noise persists through all of that I'd look into getting a replacement.

Still playing The Crew pretty regularly, as well as Trove and mixing in various games in between like Heroes of the Storm, Kerbals, FTL and Vampire The Masquerade with the Bloodlines Antitribu mod (starting to become my favorite RPG of all time over Arcanum). Also been playing a lot of Payday 2 since my brother got me back into it recently.

Its easy as assembling lego : find your proc , check socket, buy motherboard with same socket ! For sure need some IT degree for that /s

So next time dont just take some random fact on google but try to comprehend how the whole thing work pls.

Lol you even mention case omg how is it relevent to the subject as unified platform are better ?? Dev need to optimise their game for every case out here now ?

And as i mentioned earlier if unified platform is better why every console game release are unoptimized garbadge who need to be patched (ac unity; halo ... ) ???

But, just stop trying to discuss the optimization of software for different sets of hardware, it's already clear that your quite ignorant on the matter and probably don't want to learn.
