EA is voted Worst Company in America, Now What?
General Gaming « General Discussion 4/07/12 9:38:11 AM
All I can do is shake my head. Yea, EA is an evil game company blah blah. But the worst company in America? I'm trying to keep faith in my fellow Americans but damn its getting harder and harder to do so. There are plenty of other companies out there that deserve that title that go far beyond destroying your favorite video game. |

Trust me, I dont need you to tell me what kind of game I do and do not like. To do so is arrogant and stupid. Do I want a good sandbox mmo? Sure. I would also like a new take on the themepark style. I have a wide variety in game taste. Evidently thats to hard for some people to understand. As for TSW. I hope it does well. Its going to have to fight though. Its comming around when there is so much hype for GW2, Archage, and Tera with a few more in the works that dont have the hype yet but probably will. Add to that people havent forgotten about Age of Conan at launch and Funcom has its work cut out for them. Hell I usually buy every new AAA mmo when it comes out just to take a look at it. I'm passing on TSW because of what happened with AOC. |

No Further Mass Effect 3 Ending DLC Planned
General Gaming « General Discussion 4/07/12 1:45:23 AM
I'm so sick of the words "Artistic Integrity" being tied in with ME3. The writing is terrible. On thier own forums they have writing professors explaining in DETAIL why the ending is so bad and just how many plot holes are there.
Its all good though. After DA2 and this steaming pile of donkey dung (the story/ending, the gameplay was fun enough) Bioware can take thier "Artistic visions" and shove it. Sure I'll play future games of thiers. But not untill its 75% off or more. Not untill they show me they have gotten thier epic single player RPG mojo back. |

Oh thats right, you dont. None of us do. Thus making your posts a lie and THAT is a fact. Unless of course you work for Anet and can tell us its set in stone what will be in the cash shop.
And before you idiots try to troll me no, I am not happy with what I saw in the cash shop. But I'm also not dumb enough to try and pass what we saw as fact untill its launched and I see thoes items. Even then its not exactly P2W since everyone has access to the cash shop items in one way or another. Psudo P2W yes. Pure P2W? no. |

Personally I think people are/where stupid for continuing to support WoW after they added a cosmetic cash shop. That was my one and only reason for leaving the game. I think by now I would have left due to burnout like alot of people have but there is still the chance I would be playing if not for greedyness on blizzards part. That said brilliant move on Blizzards part. They lost verry few subscribers over that deal and made millions from it. To me though people still play WOW because its familiar, they have tons of time invested in thier characters, and there just hasnt been anything better in alot of peoples eyes. The only thing that could truly "kill" WoW is the Titan project. And if people are honest with themselves, depending on what the Titan project really is and its gameplay it could kill ALOT of MMO's when its announced/launched. |

Originally posted by Ausare Oh I completely agree. I just think that adults are getting to be the same way and thats part of the problem. Its a "I need an artaficial reward for everything I do." and its not just kids. |

Originally posted by Ausare Thats the thing though. People dont just want rewards for being really good. They want rewards for failing to. Thats why I miss some of the older games. Hell in Asherons Call your reward for being really, really good was respect. Respect hasnt been a good enough reward for people in a decade or more now. |
|

Dont even need to read any posts and I can awnser the question. Its simply that people have been brainwashed into believing they have to be given a reward for everything they do. It falls in the same line as "everyone gets a trophy" in sports. NOTHING is done just to have fun anymore. I hope GW2 breaks that mold. I really do. But I think there has to be a culture change before the mentality in games change.

Concidering I had never heard of PS1 and only mildly looking into PS2 untill I can play it I have to say I'm with everyone else...what is LOD lol. I'm definitly interested in this genra of FPS. I've tried looking for other games I could play untill PS2 either invites me to beta or releases. LOD never even once came up. So that begs the question. How can a game that no one outside of a small group of people even compare with the marketing machine that is SOE? Thats ignoring the fact the graphics look awefull and the animations are worse than...well pretty much anything these days. I've seen better animations from highschool students. |

I'm still trying to figure out how people expect graphical quality of todays single player games in MMO's. In paticular MMO's where there is the posibility of hundreds of people in a small area (WvW). Doesnt matter how good your PC is if you take...say Crysis2 graphical quality and try to put 100+ people in the same area...it just wont happen. That and I dont see why people are gushing over Archage graphics. Played the beta. Liked the graphics but I didnt think it was anything special. Loved the artistic style but the graphical quality itself? Above average for an MMO but not amazing. |

Guild Wars 2: Guild Wars 2 - Why World vs. World Will Rule

Anet even said to ignore the leak for now because they arent even sure whats going to be in it yet. I didnt like what I saw but I will withold judgement on it till the game is launched. |

Guild Wars 2: Guild Wars 2 - Why World vs. World Will Rule
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/03/12 6:29:46 AM
What I'm afraid of for WvW is exactly what his video showed. Lots and lots of PvE instead of PvP. I suck at PvP and I would much rather die alot to other people than siege keeps against NPC's. I did enough of that in WAR. |

Not only its health but skills and damage done to players. It would also be lazy to say the encounters would feel the same yet not mention that the trinity in its traditional sense is gone. The way GW2 does things even a stationary boss is going to be quite diffrent than someone tanking, someone healing, and the rest beating on the boss. I'm not saying its going to be great or terrible. But only at its most basic form is it the same and to make an argument about something at its most basic form without counting in all the other factors is a lazy argument. |

Originally posted by Loktofeit The reason this doesnt work is because you are talking about monitary restrictions. With games (not just MMO's) you have the monitary restrictions but also development (time) restrictions. Even one of the most hyped games comming out this year, GW2, is going to lack content compared to alot of other MMO's. The reason people are willing to pay the same is because its doing something diffrent. I dont say "I understand its hard to start a company". I say "Its unreasonable to expect a game thats been in development for 3-5 years to have the same content as a game thats been in development for 3-5 years PLUS the last however many years to add more content." In simplest terms you can not compare technology development (which is what games are) to many other aspects of our consumer life. With games its more about how diffrent you do stuff rather than how many features it has. Thats what people cant seem to understand. Games like SWTOR arent a failure to many because it has less content than WOW. Its because the content it does have is the same thing you have been doing since WOW. If I could launch a brand new MMO tomorrow that has all the same features of WoW and dont really do anything diffrent it wont matter. Most people will play it at first sure. But then they will go back to the game they have spent years building thier other character in. Why would they start over in my game just because its skinned diffrently? |
|
Originally posted by Jakard Its a verry valid argument. Do you think Blizzard shares its code with every other developer out there? Of course they dont. Do you think developers can magically make content appear or do you think it takes them months, even years to code the game and its updates. There is a diffrence between knowing what players will want and having a reasonable amount of time to develop said content. Its ALOT harder for developers these days. They know what players want but they still have to pick and choose what features to launch with. Add to that now developers have to push out content faster than ever before to keep a playerbase happy. WoW had the luxury of taking its time.
With all that said SWTOR imo is a diffrent beast. It lacks so much of what makes an MMORPG that its not even funny. Personally I feel thats because Bioware is so good at single player games though. Its really no joke when someone says they can play SWTOR like a single player game and feel satisfied. I did and I do not regret my purchase. I also didnt play beyond the first month. To me it had nothing that made it feel like anything other than a single player game other than a chatroom box. |

"Time-saving Convenience items" and "Time Skippers". The new PAY TO WIN.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/27/12 6:28:59 PM
Originally posted by Foncl Its a percieved advantage nothing more. If I was them I would capitalize on this to. That said I'm with you on the cosmetic/fluff stuff only being in the cash shop. They would save themself alot of hassle by simply removing the "time saving" stuff. On the other hand they would cost themselves alot of sales because people who WANT to be 80 first or people who think it really matters would buy these items. One last thing. I am only basing my opinion off what Anet has said. NO ONE but Anet really knows how much gear will matter. We can only take thier word for it that it wont matter nearly as much as in other games. I would also remind people Anet has not once said that GEAR WONT MATTER at all. |
|
Originally posted by DeserttFoxx Dont be obtuse. A level 1s gear will not be equal to a level 80's. However a level 70's will only be slightly worse. Also, do you really think someone who only spends a couple hours a day tops will be equal to someone who knows the game in and out from so much time spent? If so stop sucking and learn game mechanics inside and out like anyone who dedicates that much time to a game should.
And yes, people really are for making PvP about skill and not gear. If you cant win in PvP without outgearing someone then please, accept that you fail and move on. And no, I'm not some elitist PvP jerkoff. I suck at PvP and I know it. And last I checked even gear games these days have PvP gear that you PvP for instead of useing raid gear to PvP. Thus making your argument invalid for spending 40hrs a week grinding dungeons. If you want to talk about PvE and looking more badass than a casual isnt enough for you then I might suggest you look at what PvE stands for. Who cares if a casual player has the same stats as you. You arent competeing against them in any way stats wise. So really the only thing that matters is looks. By all accounts of what Anet has said if you spend 40hrs a week getting all the hardest gear to obtain you will look significantly more awesome than someone who doesnt. One last thing. I'm not defending GW2 really. I'm taking the "wait and see" view on the game. I am however tired of all these half assed attempts to talk down games on this site. At least put more effort into it people. |
