All I can do is shake my head. Yea, EA is an evil game company blah blah. But the worst company in America? I'm trying to keep faith in my fellow Americans but damn its getting harder and harder to do so. There are plenty of other companies out there that deserve that title that go far beyond destroying your favorite video game.

12 years to finish TSW,they just cant fail on this for 2 good resons

-If you cant score on a 12 years work you are useless for everything and ill not buy you never again

-They dont want throw 12 years of time and investment trough the windows

Funcom need to score on this or they are finished, but in mmorpg business world everything is possible, look to blizz and the way they turn a world sucess into a childish piece of junk,or the almost unknow MA and the sucess with EU (i must say i personaly HATE EU to the bones)

I just want to give Funcom some tips, and they better listen good,(ive predicted some mmorpgs failure b4)

1- most important,more sandbox content

veteran mmorpgs players cant stand "lvl up-kill the boss-gratz new iten and xp. have a nice day" line anylonger, and today most part of the players are vets, some will raise up theyr hand saying "hey im vet and i love themepark"...belive me,you will get sick of it soon or later.and by what ive see TSW is in lack of SB content, just a house to the char store theyr itens expose theyr "trophys" and call it "MY place in the game" is a good start, exemple entropia universe

2-listen to the mature players

Every game who want to have sucess NEED to listen to theyr players, but listen to the right players,WoW for exemple, blizz had 2 choices, listen to the mature ppl and spend theyr efort to add some SB content and make it skill based,or listen to the children and add pandas to the game, well they pick the children, and maybe they get back some of the more than 3 million players they lost only on the past year, but those will left wow again and the active players numbers will continue to drop

Anyways,my bet is they will score with TSW

I'm a vet MMORPG player and I dont want you speaking for me. Themeparks have thier place if well done. Trust me, I dont need you to tell me what kind of game I do and do not like. To do so is arrogant and stupid. Do I want a good sandbox mmo? Sure. I would also like a new take on the themepark style. I have a wide variety in game taste. Evidently thats to hard for some people to understand.

As for TSW. I hope it does well. Its going to have to fight though. Its comming around when there is so much hype for GW2, Archage, and Tera with a few more in the works that dont have the hype yet but probably will. Add to that people havent forgotten about Age of Conan at launch and Funcom has its work cut out for them. Hell I usually buy every new AAA mmo when it comes out just to take a look at it. I'm passing on TSW because of what happened with AOC.

I'm so sick of the words "Artistic Integrity" being tied in with ME3. The writing is terrible. On thier own forums they have writing professors explaining in DETAIL why the ending is so bad and just how many plot holes are there.

Its all good though. After DA2 and this steaming pile of donkey dung (the story/ending, the gameplay was fun enough) Bioware can take thier "Artistic visions" and shove it. Sure I'll play future games of thiers. But not untill its 75% off or more. Not untill they show me they have gotten thier epic single player RPG mojo back.

I like tera's take on combat with no auto aiming crap like wow, swtor etc has. Is GW2 like this? or is it just generic wow-like combat where you target and faceplant buttons with everything homing in on the target?

It is more dynamic than WOW.  You can buy items from the cash shop that make you more powerful than your opponent.

just as thestupidity of the title of this thread gave me cancer, your reply post gave me herpes....

Why because its true?

Sure maybe at max level you wont be able to buy much advantage but up until then GW2 is Pay 2 win and thats a fact.

A fact uh? And how do you know this is a fact? Please dont bother talking about the "leaks" before either since thoes prove nothing except they are THINKING about thoes items. Sure, if they are in at launch you could say its a fact but as of now its 50/50 if thoes items will be in or not thus it can not be a fact.

So agin I ask you how do you know its a fact? Oh thats right, you dont. None of us do. Thus making your posts a lie and THAT is a fact. Unless of course you work for Anet and can tell us its set in stone what will be in the cash shop.

And before you idiots try to troll me no, I am not happy with what I saw in the cash shop. But I'm also not dumb enough to try and pass what we saw as fact untill its launched and I see thoes items. Even then its not exactly P2W since everyone has access to the cash shop items in one way or another. Psudo P2W yes. Pure P2W? no.

Lots and lots of reasons. Everything from time invested in the game to nothing new enough being put out there yet.

Personally I think people are/where stupid for continuing to support WoW after they added a cosmetic cash shop. That was my one and only reason for leaving the game. I think by now I would have left due to burnout like alot of people have but there is still the chance I would be playing if not for greedyness on blizzards part. That said brilliant move on Blizzards part. They lost verry few subscribers over that deal and made millions from it.

To me though people still play WOW because its familiar, they have tons of time invested in thier characters, and there just hasnt been anything better in alot of peoples eyes. The only thing that could truly "kill" WoW is the Titan project. And if people are honest with themselves, depending on what the Titan project really is and its gameplay it could kill ALOT of MMO's when its announced/launched.

Oh man, I thought WoW just had the mounts/pets you could buy. What else is in the cash shop?

As far as I know thats all they sell. Which was to much for me. Mounts and pets are "cosmetic". I refused to pay a monthly fee then be asked to pay extra for things that should be in the game for free since I'm paying them monthly for the content. Thats all I ment by that.

I would say that people that PvP for no "reward", i.e. recognition or physical items, are rare breed.  Most people want their shiny be it a title, item, or territorial hold to show they are "winners".  They want to stand out in the crowd as better than others.  Without that they move on to where they can find that shiny trophy that says they are better than you.  It is that way with PvE raiders too.  Remove the "reward" and many people will stop raiding.  When you are trying to get as many people as you can into a game for profit you have to take into account this mass of people that want to feel better than others in a game.

Thats the thing though. People dont just want rewards for being really good. They want rewards for failing to.  Thats why I miss some of the older games. Hell in Asherons Call your reward for being really, really good was respect. Respect hasnt been a good enough reward for people in a decade or more now.

Wanting rewards for failing is something artificially put in the kids these days that are coddled too much.  I do not think they should get it rewards for failing.  I was talking more about how many would play with no reward vs how many would play with a reward there.

Oh I completely agree. I just think that adults are getting to be the same way and thats part of the problem. Its a "I need an artaficial reward for everything I do." and its not just kids.

Dont even need to read any posts and I can awnser the question. Its simply that people have been brainwashed into believing they have to be given a reward for everything they do. It falls in the same line as "everyone gets a trophy" in sports. NOTHING is done just to have fun anymore. I hope GW2 breaks that mold. I really do. But I think there has to be a culture change before the mentality in games change.

Concidering I had never heard of PS1 and only mildly looking into PS2 untill I can play it I have to say I'm with everyone else...what is LOD lol. I'm definitly interested in this genra of FPS. I've tried looking for other games I could play untill PS2 either invites me to beta or releases. LOD never even once came up.

So that begs the question. How can a game that no one outside of a small group of people even compare with the marketing machine that is SOE? Thats ignoring the fact the graphics look awefull and the animations are worse than...well pretty much anything these days. I've seen better animations from highschool students.

I'm still trying to figure out how people expect graphical quality of todays single player games in MMO's. In paticular MMO's where there is the posibility of hundreds of people in a small area (WvW). Doesnt matter how good your PC is if you take...say Crysis2 graphical quality and try to put 100+ people in the same area...it just wont happen.

That and I dont see why people are gushing over Archage graphics. Played the beta. Liked the graphics but I didnt think it was anything special. Loved the artistic style but the graphical quality itself? Above average for an MMO but not amazing.

Biggest  Epic Fail of history of mankind. WvW or more systems wont save this game, close the item mall idea, that WILL.

Dont try to fool people with other subjects please..

Bye Bye fail company, promise something afterwards changing to item mall system..

Really? And why does an item mall make it fail instantly? Because it has the name "Cash shop"?  Because thats the only realistic reason you could use at this point and if thats the case dont expect to be taken seriously by anyone.

No one knows what will be in the CS untill its launched. Anet even said to ignore the leak for now because they arent even sure whats going to be in it yet. I didnt like what I saw but I will withold judgement on it till the game is launched.

What I'm afraid of for WvW is exactly what his video showed. Lots and lots of PvE instead of PvP. I suck at PvP and I would much rather die alot to other people than siege keeps against NPC's. I did enough of that in WAR.

So far every big boss fight i have seen in the world for these dynamic events have stood in one place, not moving from their spawn location once.  The dragons will fly up in the air for a few seconds and then just land on the ground in the same exact place...

So whats so different from wow here?  i see danger spots on the ground, i see adds spawning from either portals or out of water, a few abilities that appear to be on timers that require the player to react somwhat quickly, some positioning AOEs and 20 people standing around 1 giant mob repeatedly attacking it not actually doing anything to it other than widdling down an hp bar.

Obviously it all looks alot better (10 years later it better)  than wow but thats not what im getting at.  Simply put it appears that though Anet has stated there going away from traditional mmo models it appears that boss fights havnt changed one bit.

Examples of 3 boss fights

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5RpX9oAaSo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1JfSbKjHHI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=kFKFqzRhXKs#!

In its absolute most basic form you are right. But its rather lazy to not mention that the boss difficulty scales based on amount of people. Not only its health but skills and damage done to players. It would also be lazy to say the encounters would feel the same yet not mention that the trinity in its traditional sense is gone. The way GW2 does things even a stationary boss is going to be quite diffrent than someone tanking, someone healing, and the rest beating on the boss. I'm not saying its going to be great or terrible. But only at its most basic form is it the same and to make an argument about something at its most basic form without counting in all the other factors is a lazy argument.

I think the answer is somewhere between yes and no, honestly.  A game studio is just a bunch of people, from developers to CEO, and they have varying degrees of experience.  Not all games are developed on the same engine, etc, so each studio faces unique challenges with that alone.  So even if an existing game like World of Warcraft has been out, and had issues, it's not like future game developers can reference a document or bulletin board on how to avoid X, Y, or Z.  On top of that, each studio has it's own finite resources to develop a game.  Setbacks, layoffs, delays, etc, all contribute to the quality of the game at launch (and not all games make it to launch).  There is just a lot more to it than looking at World of Warcraft, then making a new game that is better.  Otherwise, every new MMO would be better than the one before it.

Is that really an unrealistic expectation?

With every other product or service that you buy, you will pay equal price if the product is on par with competitive products/services in its price range. If it offers more, you're willing to pay more, but if it offers less, you'd expect to pay less, right?

If a new cable provider started up but had less channels than your current provider, would you expect to pay the same or less? If a new gym opened up and charged the same as the existing gyms, wouldn't you expect them to have the same or equal facilities? The same goes with insurance, utilities or any other service.

Nowhere else in your purchasing decisions do you say "Well, it's hard to start a company like this, so I'll pay trhe same amount for less features because I understand their plight," so why do you do it here?

The reason this doesnt work is because you are talking about monitary restrictions. With games (not just MMO's) you have the monitary restrictions but also development (time) restrictions. Even one of the most hyped games comming out this year, GW2, is going to lack content compared to alot of other MMO's. The reason people are willing to pay the same is because its doing something diffrent.

I dont say "I understand its hard to start a company". I say "Its unreasonable to expect a game thats been in development for 3-5 years to have the same content as a game thats been in development for 3-5 years PLUS the last however many years to add more content."

In simplest terms you can not compare technology development (which is what games are) to many other aspects of our consumer life. With games its more about how diffrent you do stuff rather than how many features it has.

Thats what people cant seem to understand. Games like SWTOR arent a failure to many because it has less content than WOW.  Its because the content it does have is the same thing you have been doing since WOW. If I could launch a brand new MMO tomorrow that has all the same features of WoW and dont really do anything diffrent it wont matter. Most people will play it at first sure. But then they will go back to the game they have spent years building thier other character in. Why would they start over in my game just because its skinned diffrently?

I play both World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic. I was questing in TOR with my friend who loves TOR and dislikes WoW. I was mentioning some of the things that I felt were shortcomings in TOR and his defense was that World of Warcraft had these same issues three months after launch. Here's my question.

Is compaing The Old Republic three months after launch to World of Warcraft three months after launch a fair and valid argument? In my opinion, the answer is no. WoW was launched in 2004 and I wold assume that enough time has passed where a game wouldn't launch seven years later with the same mistakes or shortcomings at that previous game? Am I wrong?

Its a verry valid argument.  Do you think Blizzard shares its code with every other developer out there? Of course they dont. Do you think developers can magically make content appear or do you think it takes them months, even years to code the game and its updates.

There is a diffrence between knowing what players will want and having a reasonable amount of time to develop said content. Its ALOT harder for developers these days. They know what players want but they still have to pick and choose what features to launch with. Add to that now developers have to push out content faster than ever before to keep a playerbase happy. WoW had the luxury of taking its time.

With all that said SWTOR imo is a diffrent beast. It lacks so much of what makes an MMORPG that its not even funny. Personally I feel thats because Bioware is so good at single player games though. Its really no joke when someone says they can play SWTOR like a single player game and feel satisfied. I did and I do not regret my purchase. I also didnt play beyond the first month. To me it had nothing that made it feel like anything other than a single player game other than a chatroom box.

-their reflexes, strategy and knowledge during combat

-their ability make allies and utlisie these friendships

-their ability to play the market and reap gains

pretty much every game whether it be soccer, basketball, quake 3, starcraft  or chess doesnt directly reward time spent. you will get better with practice but not neccesarly at the same rate and different people will plateu at different ability levels. practicing and competing to extract all the performance out of your potential is what makes these games interesting and is the reason for their longevity.

"hey looks like you grinded your arse off for 2 weeks now you have enough badges to unlock tier X pvp gear. congratulations you are a no life loser and now you can pwn all those who undergoing the process you just went through. dont you just feel great?"

why is it mmorpgs have this stupid concept of rewards based on time spent. "progression" should be difficult not time consuming. for example: once a raid is complete why should you have to keep completing until you have all the items? if you can do it once, you can surely do it again. how do people put up with this crap? make the raids more challenging rather than making them something you repeat and repeat.

im also a firm beleiver than no computer programming can beat the complexity and unpredicatlibility of PVP based gameplay. . i think one of the reasons that players dont like pvp gameplay is because it is poorly done. since players are rewarded based on time spent, casual players (the majority) dont stand a chance.  PVP gameplay is superior to PVE gameplay in that there are infinite possibilities. developers only have to provide the tools, they dont need to constantly churn out content. look at LoL and DoTA. both of these games are extremely popular (far more popular than any mmorpg) and they are pvp games.

In another words you arent into MMORPG's. Got it. MMORPG's are thier own style of game. Period. End of story.  You are trying to compare non-MMORPG's to MMORPG's. Doesnt work. You like apples. I like Oranges. Thats fine but you cant make an apple an orange.

Keep looking at the list. They said on thier twitter that they are still working on getting more retailers. I would have to assume Amazon and bestbuy are going to be added to the list for you.

I completely agree OP, time is what you use to achieve things in games, time convenience items are P2W imo. Developers will keep testing their waters to see what they can get away with until gamers make it known to them that it will hurt their revenue by doing so. I will not support any form of money for power RMT in games and never have, if it becomes the norm then I will stop playing the mainstream games.

I'm willing to pay more for a game without a cash shop, where power is earned by time spent in-game.

Then you would never have supported Guild Wars 2 in the first place. The progression is horizontal, the leveling curve is flat, and up/down scaling in power is common place in this game. Without the cash shop.

Then please explain to me your view of why they have a cash shop with items that are not purely cosmetic?

My view: It's there so people can pay to achieve things faster, bypass game mechanics and gain a competitive advantage by spending money.

Would the game be worse with only cosmetic items in the cash shop in your opinion? Why?

Its a percieved advantage nothing more. If I was them I would capitalize on this to.

That said I'm with you on the cosmetic/fluff stuff only being in the cash shop. They would save themself alot of hassle by simply removing the "time saving" stuff. On the other hand they would cost themselves alot of sales because people who WANT to be 80 first or people who think it really matters would buy these items.

One last thing. I am only basing my opinion off what Anet has said. NO ONE but Anet really knows how much gear will matter. We can only take thier word for it that it wont matter nearly as much as in other games. I would also remind people Anet has not once said that GEAR WONT MATTER at all.

From what i understand so far, gear means nothing in Guild wars 2, in both pvp and pve. So that means if you spend hours farming items you wont be better then a dude who say.. just created his character and was boosted to level 80. Gathering nodes are for everyone, so that means everyone can gather from a single node once before it goes away.

So i ask, is time spent playing the game not rewarded? When gear doesnt matter at all, how is it any different then playing call of duty or any other fps game? Why are we doing dungeons if the gear you aquire doesnt matter at all?

Please for the love of fucking christ, stop saying for fun. maybe i am not apart of the generation that find everyone being equal all the time to be fun. I think if i spend 40 hours a week farming dungeons while some guy logs on for 2 hours a day just to explore, /dance on a mail box and maybe pvp for 30minutes before he goes for his dinner with the wife and kids, we should not be equal.

It seems like the concensus i am getting from all these news videos are, people love the idea of everything being equal, and the only diversity comes from costume looks. Im not sure when MMOs became about playing barbie, but i want to do a lot more then just dress of my character to set myself apart from the rest.

Are people really for gear not affecting anything at all besides looks? IN pvp and pve?

Dont be obtuse. A level 1s gear will not be equal to a level 80's. However a level 70's will only be slightly worse. Also, do you really think someone who only spends a couple hours a day tops will be equal to someone who knows the game in and out from so much time spent? If so stop sucking and learn game mechanics inside and out like anyone who dedicates that much time to a game should.

And yes, people really are for making PvP about skill and not gear. If you cant win in PvP without outgearing someone then please, accept that you fail and move on. And no, I'm not some elitist PvP jerkoff. I suck at PvP and I know it. And last I checked even gear games these days have PvP gear that you PvP for instead of useing raid gear to PvP. Thus making your argument invalid for spending 40hrs a week grinding dungeons.

If you want to talk about PvE and looking more badass than a casual isnt enough for you then I might suggest you look at what PvE stands for.   Who cares if a casual player has the same stats as you. You arent competeing against them in any way stats wise. So really the only thing that matters is looks. By all accounts of what Anet has said if you spend 40hrs a week getting all the hardest gear to obtain you will look significantly more awesome than someone who doesnt.

One last thing. I'm not defending GW2 really. I'm taking the "wait and see" view on the game. I am however tired of all these half assed attempts to talk down games on this site. At least put more effort into it people.
