  • "How Mythic deals with population balance will make or break the game"

Quoted from the Warhammer Review and it does ring true.

It should be of no surprise that destruction is more appealing than order at the beginning. The question is, in a few months will things even out? In many games they do somewhat. However, like class balance, population balance is very difficult and elusive.

Mythic has experience with this from DAOC (and the Hibbie famine of 2001-2002). eventually sides did seem to even out. So with that preamble..

What do you think Mythic can do to even out the sides?
XP, renown or gold Incentives to an underpopulated side?
Earlier caps on overpopulated sides?
$700 trillion bailout package?

Your thoughts?

Yea i'm a packrat by nature. Yet even I must sell those damned Greenie seeds I'll never use. Limitations on bag space is just too strong an influence

However, we cannot say that this was unexpected.

After a few months, things will even out

There I was, minding my own business when Pop..a message appeared in the front of my screen...

Hear Ye! The nuisance 'Yaertmr' and scores of his verminous cohorts have been burned at the stake for peddling seditious wares.

By order of emperor Karl Franz

After checking the dictionary several times I was happily impressed. We all knew that Gold spams are a part of MMO life. We expect the annoyance. But Mythic is telling us 2 things..

First: They are going after these guys. they are not sitting back and claiming it 'inevitable'
Second: They are not going to fight them 'behind the scenes' but out in the open and let us know about it.

Usually we don't hear anything except some annual report of how they banned 3 million accounts. Not the case! This way, we can cheer them on.

OK, so we are trading one kind of spam for another. Least this spam I can cheer for!

Bravo Mythic,
I don't think you'll win. But I root for the underdog (as evidenced by the fact I play order)

Hey Boomer

As I mentioned, I do expect these posts from all MMOs. They just seemed to show up almost instantaneously.

I agree this isnt anywhere near the forum trash that you see on AoC boards. But Age of conan gave posters a lot of amunition

You're probably right player-420.  Blizzard didnt so much change the MMO game as it change the MMO player population. This may be one of the results.

Warhammer is barely a week old from head start. And already we start seeing posts with titles...

  1. Leveling is way too slow
  2. WAR players Big Ol' List of Demands
  3. Should Shamans be expected to heal? Your thoughts...!
  4. The things I dislike...
  5. A Thoughtful List of Suggestions and Observations
  6. We need update from Mythic on main issues

Now, I've been playing long enough to know these posts are inevitable. I expect them to happen and will only see more (and will progressively get worse). What I do notice is that with the release of every new game, these kinds of posts seem to show up a lot quicker and flood te forums ..and they get nastier a lot sooner.

So what happened?

Have we changed as players (our wants and expectations)?
Is it the same vocal minority as before but just a lot earlier?
Perhaps the posters are correct....Have MMO games gotten worse?

It's quiet ....too quiet.

Not a lot of talking between players in WAR. Although I dont understand why this is, its cetainly been noticed.

This was something I noted since early in beta. I mentioned it in my Warhammer Review. I had thought that perhaps with release it would get better, but it has not. WAR's RvR is intense, not a lot of time to text everyone in the zone.

And so, its time to at least make some noise!

So, To those few who read this post:
Make a macro with the following code

  1. /Shout <something> or /1 <something>
  2. Put the macro on the hotbar slot or keymap it
  3. Click the macro/key every time you head into RvR
  4. <something> could be any short little phrase or battlecry you want.

Top 10 battle cries include (Source)

  1. "This is where we fight! This is where they die!"
  2. "Come on, you sons of #@$%, do you want to live forever?"
  3. "By the power of Greyskull ... I have the powerrr!!!"
  4. "Over? Did you say over? Nothing is over till we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"
  5. "From my cold, dead hands!"
  6. "Tulta munille!" (Fire at their balls!)"
  7. "Carthago delenda est!" (Carthage must be destroyed!)
  8. "Leeeroy Jennnkins!" (it almost pains me to write that down)
  9. "I am the Love Angel, I am Wedding Peach, and I am very angry with you!"
  10. "Today is a good day to die!"

Tick Fans may enjoy the battle cry of "SPOON!" and I DARE anyone to have the guts to publicly use the Greyskull one.

Have any others you like to use? List them here!

Its unclear. Understand that those boxes are not a Gameplay issue or even a development issue. They are a legal issue. It may be that Lawyers are saying that they must pop every time, even if they players and devs want it otherwise

Sounds like a simple issue with the codes, but not the game itself. Have you spoken to Mythic Tech Support?

If you enjoy PvP its one of the better PvP games out there at the moment. I worked hard to give an unbiased, comprehensive and even handed Warhammer review (Read it HERE)

Its still too early to say with certainty "Yes or No" but I wager that most players who enjoy MMORPGs ought to give WAR a try. Else hey will always wonder if they 'missed it'

Solid review that seems to come to a common conclusion of many reviews thus far (my own included). There is a whole stickied thread of Warhammer reviews on the warhammer board. I wager Profred may be able to add yours into the mix

I dont know if its scrapped. But certainly its not in the forseeable future. Visual changes are often something that takes a low priority expecially when gameplay issues are in the forefront.

A few expansions away perhaps. Never say never

I wrote an article titled

How "Free" are Free to Play (F2P) MMOs?

but yea, I agree. Its not anything I'm willing to give up real cash over.

Dual boxing and use of a buff bot was a huge issue in DAOC and an annoyance in WoW. WAR is defintly not buff bOT friendly, but that never stopped players before.

I saw an entire train of 5 Magus bots on autofollow in Beta. Let me tell ya, thats a sight.

Happily I havnt seen much of that in head start. the queues probably preventing much of that for now. However, the queues wont last forever.

Anyone seen a lot of bots? What classes have you seen used as buff Bots.

Grats to Warhammer. A solid release (nothing bad, but a few minor blips) and a very enthusiastic fan base.

Now the board is in the Released Games column (located between Vanguard and World of Warcraft). Lets hope we can keep the board constructive and not flamingly destructive.

Its not that shocking. Based on both preview weekends, the open beta and numerous board polls it comes as no surprise that Destruction outnumbers Order. NO hard numbers are available but there is not one sever on the login screen where Order has a higher population than destruction. My guess is destruction outnumbers Order 3:2

Eventually, once both sides cap out you would expect the populations to equilibrate. Till that happens its a hard life for Order. But then, thats what we signed up for when we chose our allegiance. Besides, some of us cannot pass up the hairstyles of the bright wizard.

So, aside from waiting out the storm and sticking to the RvR Scenarios, what tactics and suggestions can you give the incoming Order players. Whats the best way to play WAR when you often find yourself outnumbered.
