BY Cracky! Those buggers at SOE send me an invite to play SWG for Free  - Something about a Galactic Moon  thing thats suppose to be like your Halloween ( wasn't that 3 days ago?) 

 Well , I logged in and the first thing that the buggers wanted is a credit card or a game card - well not me. That's not free if they want me to pay for next month behind my back.  OYE!

 Just watched that way hot Tina Fey doing her Palin impersonation "Going Rogue" and selling her 2012 T-shirts on QVC on SNL.  I love the net , even us blokes here are enjoying the election.

Quality control is something that SOE doesn't utilize.

 I applaud your survial skills in the NGE. but if its a matter of Spawns and loots that made you quit  why didn't you quit earlier when major FUBAR was committed to the game .  Congratz for wising up ,better late then never.

I don't want any particular game back.  I got over losing the online community experience that was SWG some time ago in fact.  So, what have I moved on to?  Doing something about EULAs in general or how they are applied to MMO development.

SWG provides an excellent example of just how far a company will stretch a EULA to justify outrageous decisions and actions.

In my mind, either EULAs like SOE's need to change (no matter what game they are for), or the way they are interpreted and applied needs to be much better defined and possibly regulated.

There is a collaborative effort ongoing to develop more "user" friendly EULAs.  I'd love to be a part of that solution.  In this thread, however, I'm highlighting a problem that badly needs to be addressed.

And, as some people have noticed, I chose satire as a vehicle for making my point :).

Well you have to remember back in 1929 the world had a lot of dynamic events taking place. 

As there are many dynamic events happening today, pollution, global warming (no longer a myth), China's production and entrance into the global economy, U.S. military actions in Afghanistan and Iraq, etc.

Europe was still recovering from the heavy financial burdens of WW1, Germany was in economic ruin.

Global warming and drought hitting areas of the world as never before.  Rising oceans threaten coastal economies and water supplies.

A LOT was going on back then that triggered the Great Depression. 

As there is a lot that is triggering events in today's world that can get ugly very fast.

Right now the war in Iraq, the ridiculous home loans people all over the USA have been taking out, etc, are contributing heavily to the recession. 

Agreed but are indicative of a greater underlying set of issues in the economy.

There are systems in place to minimize the damage but it will be tough for a few years, if not longer.

But when the dam breaks can they really hold the waters of economic disaster back, I hope so, but I think a lot more needs to be done.  Hold my thumb on the leak hoping the dike doesn't break may be all the is required, but it may not.  Are we sure it is not better to play it safe and actually work on the systems more?

I doubt we will see the Great Depression but it will likely be worse than the late 80's.

I for one hope you are right, but no one saw the Great Depression coming either.

 

      I love to see correlations drawn between the Great Depression and today's economy but aside from the new trend of MMOs replacing other more costly forms of entertainment, the only correlation I noticed in this situation is the recession of players from SOE's MMOs, in this case SWG and the great depression it has caused to its exited player base.

The server levels are relative, so having any that are heavy or medium doesn't mean anything other than it has more players compared to the other servers.  The ones currently showing heavy would barely be a light pre-CU.

Its tought to PvP when there is noone to see.

 The Redoing has been their undoing . Restarting in an option but that may be too late.  I wonder how the review of the "game" is going with Kaz?

Which rewrites the GCW as hordes of Jedi vs hordes of BH's.  The Empire and Rebellion took a backseat.

 

   I think that a cannon stuff with the NGE would be great fun.

  Its laughable  that even banned for months that The Clowned Prince of MMOs drawns laughter and attention to the Blight of the SWG Vets .  He is even being stalked by an employee from here while being banned. "The reasoning of why I think that this will happen –

1. The Free Fall of Customers from the game since the Combat Upgrade and the New Game Edition from about 300k to 50k. (From my sources – I estimate about 20k)

2. Low Server levels visa vie from the low number of players – I would like to use my Veteran trial to try the NGE again but since my home server, Kauri it’s the least populated server with players transferring to more populated servers. Server mergers would be the wise course of action but SOE refuses to make such an effort. The effort would be futile if the game would be shut down in the near future.

3. The nonexistence availability of the game. You cannot buy a copy of the game anywhere- only as a Digital download from SOE. They give away the game in the trial and then if you want the two expansions you can pay $30.00 to once again download from SOE as well. It will make it a lot easier I guess not to have a bunch of retail copies on the shelf for sale after the servers are shut down but there is not going to be any impulse purchases of the game. Considering its current condition, that may be a good thing.

4. The announcement or widely believed rumors of new Star War MMOs. Lucas Arts, the owners of the Star Wars franchise has witnessed a 300k users level and they would like to see a Star Wars MMO achieve and exceed that level in the future. Its not going to be the NGE of SWG. In fact, its said that Lucas Arts has forgiven SOE of a 1 million dollar annual royalty for the franchise rights for the past two years . It’s a good because with the estimated users, 1 million may be the annual profit for the game. It’s a sure thing that a replacement for SWG is in the works.

5. The recent change in parent companies for SOE. For years SOE parent company has been Sony Picture Entertainment, moviemakers not computer gamers. Just recently SOE now answers to its new Sony Computer Entertainment America. As I have mentioned in my recent Rodo Report, Its going to be a tough sell to explain the current existence and the amount of resources that are being wasted on the low to no profit NGE. "
