It's most likely because they're highly itemized. One thing I'm experiencing in PvP thus far is that itemization is crucial and very expensive, thanks to CH6 and the difficulty increase. No offense intended, Obraik, but I do think you look through a rose colored lens on some issues, though it's probably through no fault of your own.
You have the "lucky" advantage of a strong PA, as you repeatedly state. Joe Blow coming back into the game, on the other hand, has an uphill battle to fight unless they are lucky enough to find a very benevolent/experienced PA. Not many of those exist, even on populated servers. But, PA or not, unless they find a way to itemize they'll be ineffective compared to average players. Veteran loot/gear didn't convert very well and is easily outclassed by items crafted under the new system (surprise surprise). This is further exacerbated by the game mechanics favoring burst DPS (in the form of crits) over strategy.
Yes, time investment solves everything -- but I don't see my main character becoming as competitive with other characters unless I invest most of my online and personal time in it (not an option), and that definitely won't be in the 21 days before the Vet period expires.
I know that much :) I'm sorta just trying to point out that if you put the time in, the issues people are describing aren't such an issue anymore. It's not insta-pwnage straight out of the box. Just because you played the game in the past, the game has changed now and you need to treat your return just like you started a new game. So that means making new friends and building up your character.
its certainly not what it used to be. Its not the same... its not bad, just not the same. . . it definitely appeals to a more fast paced player - i swear, I would slit my wrists if I had to wait in a 10 min shuttle line again. I suppose it would be easier to have the combat queue back; I could put my atttacks in and then go get a beer instead of aactualyl haveing to react. Sure, I liked the pre-cu, i liked jedi what it was (definitely not liking it today) - but really, the other profs with their diverse skill sets are more fun to play now. I played and continue to play SWG for the SW aspect of it... blasters and speeders are sooooo much better than slinshots and horses. I would like the community to come back... that is the only thing this version of the NGE (this is NO LONGER the NGE) is missing
