ya know, there was a time in my SWG time that I thought it was the right of a paying player to b1tch and moan about the game but then I realized they were negatively influencing people from buying or rejoining the game which in turn made my experience worse. I put my background and gaming likes in the first post so you knew where I was coming from. The people b1tching about, although not saying it explicitly, are make it clear that they dont enjoy a challenge and need their hands held throughout the game. For them I suggest they check out TOR |

other than lag, which you can still play through, all the complaints have either been resolved or are simply a complaint about play-style. . . there aren't tons of 'quests' yet and there is open PVP - if you want to quest in a vacuum, then perhaps this game is not for you - it has never been marketed as anything but what it is. |
|
|
in an MMO with factions, there has to be SOME PvE - especially in the beginning. You have to get experience/skill/battle points SOMEHOW, right? As much as I like Eve, the skill point-over-time systems isnt very engaging - you arent actively participating in obtaining skills points; you're just traveling to and purchasing books. In any game, no matter how "sandboxy" it is, there has to be SOME pve element |
|
|
so far. my biggest complaint in this game is having to listen to all the whiners in chat - if you dont like the game, log out! |
|

so i am neither a fanboi nor a hater; just an MMO player whos been around the block a few times. My favorite mmo was pre-nge SWG; second favorite is Eve. I hate questing and I hate being locked into a certain play-style / combat role. For the longest time in SWG I was a Pistoleer/Master Architect and I had a blast. Anyway, I've played just about every MMO that's been released since 2003 and none of them have stuck for all the same reason - there was but one way to play and the quests lead you the entire way. So that tells you what kind of player I am and what type of game I am looking for. --------------------- Pros
Cons
** Sorry i have not got into crafting yet so cannot comment on that aspect of the game **
Basically, the cons aren't REAL cons - these are growing pains. I expect lag in a newbie area of a game released less than 24 hours ago. I expect that my old-man mind and fingers are going to need some time to get used to new controls. What I DO think they need to do is work on the character creation - players like to highly customize their toons; it helps us connect to the world. As for support, I gotta say, MS is doing great! THey resolved their initial issues and have superb in game support. I mentioned something in chat about not being able to attack an NPC and a GM showed up a few mintues later to tell me what I was doing wrong (not holding down CTRL on a "white" con NPC) Overall, this game is NOT going to be for everyone - it is not going to be for the SWG players who hated the TEF system and it isnt going to be for the Eve players who raged over their new mining Hulk being destroyed. Like the old SWG and Eve, ER isnt a magical world where your equipment doenst decay without insurance and other players are prevented from attacking you my unknown forces. This is "real world" where your choices actually matter! As long as those that enjoy these "riskier" games are in for the long haul and are understanding of MMO release woes, this game will thrive. See ya in game inat |

rofl! why would they let a non-subscriber post on their forums?! |

Originally posted by Lobotomist thanks for this post, Lobo... it's tough to wade through the crap in the other threads to get good information from the bashing. As an old SWG-er I have high hopes that game is somewhat similar to early-SWG where the content was all player driven. The roadmap presented by masthead seems to make sense too - we'll have a few months to get "good" so when the other content comes out, we'll be ready. SWG failed when they tried to cater to the MMO-clone carebear crowd. Eve continues to work b/c they never did cater to that crowd and continue to hold true to their intent regardless of the rants from podded miners. Like SWG, the community is what will make this game successful. Based on the other threads and the rants from the hand-hold crowd, I feel ER will be a place for me. |

definitely disappointing to read this; i been waiting for this release. just wondering though - for those that played SWG at release, it too was considered rough. would you have stuck with SWG if it wasnt star wars? |

do I sense some sarcasm, tux? :) for those that continue to play, content is content. Realizing what you can control and cannot can be liberating. I'm just glad it is on schedule - now they can move on to GCW |

Death Trooper Update on Test Center- Chills...
General Discussion « Star Wars Galaxies 10/11/09 1:21:00 PM
The new update has cool art - but needs some more content aside from escort missions and collections. I do give them kudos for the art AND making the new updater playable by ALL (including < lvl 10) - There is a full page add in the new book for SWG so perhaps it will attract some new players. Afterall, 90% of the 'fun' in this game is teh community here are some more art assets:

SWG is closing the underpopulated servers

i dont think that anyone believes SWG is pulling in hoardes of new players - I do come across new players every week or so - but for those of us who have remained in game, the FCTS is a success. It has improved the gameplay of those that got to move to new servers and it improved the gameplay of those of us on populated servers by giving us new players to play with. Why not shut down unused servers? |

You vets may want to take notice in case you ever plan on coming back: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=995148
Dear Star Wars Galaxies™ Account Holder, Due to the overwhelming success of the recent Free Character Transfer Service, we want to inform you that on October 15, 2009, at 5:00 PM PT, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) will close the following 12 Star Wars Galaxies servers:
In accordance with the server closure date, the Free Character Transfer service has been extended through October 15. 2009. Between September 15, 2009 and October 15, 2009 at 4:59 PM PT all characters on the affected servers are eligible for a one way, one time Free Character Transfer* to any of the remaining thirteen (13) Star Wars Galaxies servers. After October 15, 2009 at 5:00 PM PT, any characters and their associated items and structures remaining on the identified servers being closed will no longer be accessible on your Star Wars Galaxies or Station Access account. Please visit http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/freects/ for complete details on how to transfer your character using the Star Wars Galaxies Free Character Transfer Service. We appreciate your loyalty and commitment to Star Wars Galaxies and value having you in the community. We hope that you will continue to play on one of the 13 thriving Star Wars Galaxies servers and look forward to sharing many more new and exciting Star Wars™ themed adventures with you in the coming months as we introduce the Chronicle Master System, Death Troopers, and the upcoming Galactic Civil War enhancements. Server Closure FAQ
*Terms and Conditions Apply: In connection with the identified servers, Free Character Transfer Service will be available through 4:59 PM PDT on October 15, 2009. This "Free Character Transfer Service” only applies to a one-time/once per character move from an identified server to be closed to one of the remaining galaxy servers as determined by SOE in its sole and absolute discretion. All characters much be transferred to and from the same Station account. STAR WARS GALAXIES™ SERVER CLOSURE F.A.Q.
Which servers will be closing? The following 12 servers will be closing on Thursday, October 15 2009: - Corbantis - Europe-Infinity - Intrepid - Kauri - Kettemoor - Lowca - Naritus - Scylla - Tarquinas - Tempest - Valcyn - Wanderhome When will these 12 servers be closed? These servers will be closing on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 4:40 PM Pacific Time. Why are you closing these 12 Star Wars Galaxies Servers? The Free Character Transfer Service launched earlier this year with the intention of allowing players to transfer to servers with more active communities, creating a more vibrant and memorable Star Wars Galaxies gaming experience. The Free Character Transfer Service was a phenomenal success, leaving the less active servers in an undesirable position. In order to help streamline the current and new user experience, we have made the decision to close the less active servers and focus on the thriving Star Wars Galaxies servers. Can I move my characters off of these servers? Yes, you can move any character from the 12 identified servers up until Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 4:59 PM PT. Please see http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/freects/ for terms and conditions. Will I be charged to move my characters from these servers? No. If you take advantage of the Free Character Transfer Service before Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 5:00 PM PT, you will not be charged to transfer your characters to one of the 13 destination servers including: - Ahazi - Bloodfin - Bria - Chilastra - Eclipse - Europe-Chimaera - Europe-FarStar - Flurry - Gorath - Radiant - Shadowfire - Starsider - Sunrunner Where can I find out more information on the Free Character Transfer Service? http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/freects/ What if my account is inactive/closed but I want to move my characters off of these servers? You must reactivate your account by visiting the www.station.sony.com and entering a valid credit card or Game Time card. Once your account is active, paid, and in good standing you will be able to transfer your character using the Free Character Transfer Service through October 15, 2009. What happens if I am not able to transfer my characters from these servers before October 15th 2009, can I move my characters after October 15th 2009? Beginning October 16th, 2009 at 12:01 AM PT you will be able to contact Customer Support and for the standard Character Transfer fee of $50.00 you will be able to schedule a transfer for your character, eligible structures and inventory. Please be aware that the Character Transfer Service from closed servers does not guarantee that all inventory items will be transferred. Due to the unique nature of moving a character from a closed server, the Character Transfer Service may take additional time to process. For more information on the Character Transfer Service visit: https://store.station.sony.com/cts/...ertransfers.jsp What if I don’t want to change servers? Unfortunately, if you’re on a server that’s slated to be closed you will have to make the move in order to continue playing Star Wars Galaxies. I like playing the game by myself and don’t care how many players are on my particular server at a given time. Can you just leave me be and let me keep playing? Sorry, but in an effort to improve the gameplay experience for everyone, all characters on the identified servers must be moved. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the Free Character Transfer Service before October 15, 2009 so that you can move your character at no charge. Does this mean you’re shutting down Galaxies? No, not at all. We have lots of new content and updates planned for Galaxies and remain committed to making the game an enjoyable and engrossing experience. The server closure is an effort to improve the gameplay experience for all of our players.
