well from what i hear it has been worked on concurrently - who knows though?

do I sense some sarcasm, tux?

:)

for those that continue to play, content is content. Realizing what you can control and cannot can be liberating.

I'm just glad it is on schedule - now they can move on to GCW

The new update has cool art - but needs some more content aside from escort missions and collections.

I do give them kudos for the art AND making the new updater playable by ALL (including < lvl 10) - There is a full page add in the new book for SWG so perhaps it will attract some new players. Afterall, 90% of the 'fun' in this game is teh community

here are some more art assets:

we have 12 servers down and only 13 to go and once again this shows $OE and every gamer out there who is right. right now if pre-cu was still running $OE would be opening more servers due to more and more people wanting to get away from the boring level based games and want a game like swg pre-cu.

and mark my words bioware best be watching. if they think us vets are going to roll over for them cuz they think tor looks nice think again.

lol your four years of hard work posting harsh words about SOE is finally paying off!!

four years of posting the truth about $OE

four years of telling gamers everywhere to stay away from $OE

four years of $OE making themselfs look bad with stupid unwanted ideas and content

i wonder if we will even see the zombie patch now. i don't think we will.

and after 4 yrs what has it gotten you? game is still running. you WILL see the zombies all they did was close the underpopulated servers. i'm still happy :)

i dont think that anyone believes SWG is pulling in hoardes of new players -  I do come across new players every week or so - but for those of us who have remained in game, the FCTS is a success. It has improved the gameplay of those that got to move to new servers and it improved the gameplay of those of us on populated servers by giving us new players to play with.

Why not shut down unused servers?

You vets may want to take notice in case you ever plan on coming back:

STAR WARS GALAXIES™ SERVER CLOSURE F.A.Q.

Which servers will be closing?

The following 12 servers will be closing on Thursday, October 15 2009:

- Corbantis

- Europe-Infinity

- Intrepid

- Kauri

- Kettemoor

- Lowca

- Naritus

- Scylla

- Tarquinas

- Tempest

- Valcyn

- Wanderhome

When will these 12 servers be closed?

These servers will be closing on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 4:40 PM Pacific Time.

Why are you closing these 12 Star Wars Galaxies Servers?

The Free Character Transfer Service launched earlier this year with the intention of allowing players to transfer to servers with more active communities, creating a more vibrant and memorable Star Wars Galaxies gaming experience. The Free Character Transfer Service was a phenomenal success, leaving the less active servers in an undesirable position. In order to help streamline the current and new user experience, we have made the decision to close the less active servers and focus on the thriving Star Wars Galaxies servers.

Can I move my characters off of these servers?

Yes, you can move any character from the 12 identified servers up until Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 4:59 PM PT. Please see http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/freects/ for terms and conditions.

Will I be charged to move my characters from these servers?

No. If you take advantage of the Free Character Transfer Service before Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 5:00 PM PT, you will not be charged to transfer your characters to one of the 13 destination servers including:

- Ahazi

- Bloodfin

- Bria

- Chilastra

- Eclipse

- Europe-Chimaera

- Europe-FarStar

- Flurry

- Gorath

- Radiant

- Shadowfire

- Starsider

- Sunrunner

Where can I find out more information on the Free Character Transfer Service?

http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/freects/

What if my account is inactive/closed but I want to move my characters off of these servers?

You must reactivate your account by visiting the www.station.sony.com and entering a valid credit card or Game Time card. Once your account is active, paid, and in good standing you will be able to transfer your character using the Free Character Transfer Service through October 15, 2009.

What happens if I am not able to transfer my characters from these servers before October 15th 2009, can I move my characters after October 15th 2009?

Beginning October 16th, 2009 at 12:01 AM PT you will be able to contact Customer Support and for the standard Character Transfer fee of $50.00 you will be able to schedule a transfer for your character, eligible structures and inventory.

Please be aware that the Character Transfer Service from closed servers does not guarantee that all inventory items will be transferred. Due to the unique nature of moving a character from a closed server, the Character Transfer Service may take additional time to process.

For more information on the Character Transfer Service visit: https://store.station.sony.com/cts/...ertransfers.jsp

What if I don’t want to change servers?

Unfortunately, if you’re on a server that’s slated to be closed you will have to make the move in order to continue playing Star Wars Galaxies.

I like playing the game by myself and don’t care how many players are on my particular server at a given time. Can you just leave me be and let me keep playing?

Sorry, but in an effort to improve the gameplay experience for everyone, all characters on the identified servers must be moved. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the Free Character Transfer Service before October 15, 2009 so that you can move your character at no charge.

Does this mean you’re shutting down Galaxies?

No, not at all. We have lots of new content and updates planned for Galaxies and remain committed to making the game an enjoyable and engrossing experience. The server closure is an effort to improve the gameplay experience for all of our players.

they made jedi too easy to achieve. I know that toward the end of CU, I was so tired of everyone getting jedi that I ended up going back to my pistols. (still kept some enhancer powers too though :) )

but anyway - the game in its current state, despite its bugs, surpasses all previous iterations of the game. BUt what made the pre-nge better was the community and SGW has never been able to get that back

definitely worth playing. I would resub the old account though b/c personally, I wouldnt want to start form scratch.

New content coming up as wel from zombies (:() to GCW.

Might as we ll give it a try if there is nothing else to play

heh, i figured this was were the fun would be today

:)

That said - log on, check out, eisley, restuss

Wow...I remember when you could find people on all the planets.

You still can....those are just hubs - the same still applies. You know aswell as i do that you couldnt go to somewhere like Doaba Guerfel Pre-NGE and find populations equal to that of MO.

wait? wut? Not all cities were bustling metropolisis?

:)

You're right, there were certain hot spots then and there are certain hot spots now. With our instant travel, whether good or bad, there are no longer bottlenecks where all players converge at some point.

sorry folks, my post was a lil brief

first problem.  as i was doing the legacy quest(that quest that spands 10+ Levels)  I was going out killin stuff and such for one of the huts, i was a contracted murderer, a gopher, a rent collector etc etc etc.  I was tryin to be a jedi(now tell me how RP is it for a good jedi to go around and make an example of some runaway droids by first hurting them and then killing them)

second problem grindfest(don't mind grinding, but hate it when every quest is basically cookie cutter.  Goto place x and kill x number of x, or goto place y and kil y to gather y number of y,  That right there is like 75% of the game

i heard that SWG was good in it's glory days though

at least you gave it a shot, right?

Unfortunately, SWG has always been a grind fest, even in the glory days of pre-cu. Back in those days, you just did it b/c you had to. Today, you still do it but its part of a quest that someone is telling you to do. The content for low level is still lacking - there's an entire new side to SWG once you hit 90.

Oh, and depending on the server, swg will not be RP friendly...

But so was the infamous Christmas "Life day" TV special way back when.

Funny you should say that, the current "Life Day" celebrations in SWG are based on this travesty.  You can find out more about it here.

its not as 'campy' as the special though, thankfully :)

I would lose some immersion if I were to see Luke, Han, and Boba Fettt in a Kum Bay Yah moment at the base of a life day tree as Sean Dean doles out Wookie Ookies and Hoth Chocolate while the Cantina bands plays star warsy and iconic renditions of holiday music.

There are no paid viral marketers...  have you ever noticed the number of members vs. number of lurkers above? Currenty it is 178 members and 1302 guests. Why is it a stretch to think that everyone once in awhile once of those thousand lurkers plays SWG and  decides they're going to post somthing contrary to the usual on the SWG boards?

Believe it or not, SWG has A LOT of post-NGE players - many in my current crowd are post-NGE'rs that know nothing about pre-NGE. Sadly, when they hear vets talking about it, they always say "Why did they get rid of that? That sounds AWESOME!" All we can do is grumble and say "Well, um..geee..."

A newer player asked me last night if I thought there would ever be more pvp content added to the game. I honestly told him that I doubted it and that GCW and Restuss pvp zone was realtively new and before that, pvpers had to make their own content. He responded, "Before restuss? Hasn't it always been here?"

oh you vets are idiots. I wish SOE paid me because that would be fun.

No i just enjoy it now, but yea MMORPG has really 0 credibility.

bah, don't say that - MMORPG.com is good at giving a voice for fans and haters alike. . . there just happens to be more vocal haters than fans.

Glld you came back and glad you're enjoying it. You're lucky you played on a populated server - that seems to make or break the experience for returning vets.

Like Badger said, those of us who have continued to play over the course of the game SEE people returning and new people joining. You're like me and other vets - we've played the other MMOs and realize that regardless of the petty bugs, the uniqueness of SWG prevails.

yep. euro-chimaera is a very nicely populated server... has good pvp too - in the top four in pvp stats for the past 6 mos.

There is a decent size group of euros that play on Chilastra as well. But i'm sure that's the case with all servers

Pretty much all the loot card items had at least their graphics added to the .tre files when the initial patch for the TCG was patched to the game.  That includes all the TCG 'expansion' items.  It was after somone on the OBoard posted some pictures from the .tre files, which included several of the TCG loot items, that SOE decided to no longer allow pictures from the .tre files to be posted on the OBoard.

The diner was in the .tre files before the fake expansion vid was posted.

i had never seen it. We all heard about Tanaab and the boardable star destroyer (ISD Instance) - i'm surprised no one ever mentioned these new items in the tre files

just wanted to bring this up again. . . someone made an interesting discovery. They newly released 'diner' (TCG loot boo!) is in this video:

Well for me I honestly liked playing in the band in the cantina lol.  I met the nicest people there, and the cantina was just like I remember from when I saw the first movie in '77.   I also liked experimenting with all the different skills.  I didn't get through even half of the professions.

I also liked building up a community and city with a group of other players.  Loved my house.  Loved visiting other people's houses.  Loved the way all the professions interconnected.

Loved shopping for new weapons, especially when I was a pistoleer.  Loved experimenting with all the food/drink buffs.

Loved exploring all the different planets.  The worlds were (are) very, very well done.

Loved seeing StarWars landmarks from all the films.  Ben Kenobi's place etc..

Some of the dungeons were really, really well done.  I loved the Corvette missions.  I used to take tours of newer players through those :).  People seemed to really enjoy that.  I also really liked the geonosian cave.  That was great, very well done.

I also really liked hunting for pearls and crystals for jedi friends.  The interdependent nature of the professions in team combat also had some real shining moments, and I really liked the huge pvp wars across all the planets, and base busting.

I loved yacht parties on my space yacht, house parties in people's houses, pageants etc.  I also really enjoyed the space combat when JTL was introduced.  Flying a tie fighter was a real trip.

So, yeah, I thought the original game concept was an incredible world (galaxy) simulation, and I could have played in it for a long, long time.

Of course it would have been nice for them to keep working on bugs and issues (there were a bunch of things that didn't work right), and additional content along the lines of the Corvettes would have been cool.  The terminal missions weren't very inspiring.  But, I really did enjoy all those things I've listed nonetheless.

Oh lol, the creatures were really well done too.  Those giant bunny rabbits on Restuss really cracked me up, and the turtles.

Oh yeah, and it was fun getting fireflies from creature lairs and opening them up inside someone's house.  The game was full of all kinds of litte surprises like that.  Fishing was pretty funny too lol, in a good way.  I also used to help friends find and tame baby pets.  I took out the adults on my TKM/Master Doc, while they tamed the babies :).  That was great.

Geez, beach parties with fireworks, complete with campfires.  Swimming.  Wow, there really was a lot going on now that I think of it.  Haven't really thought about it in a while tbh.

The people that designed all this stuff at the start will always have my appreciation :).  Great memories and great friendships that I have maintained over the years, very nice.

great post.

What's cool is that you can still do all of that (except taming...now you collect DNA)

I'm glad to see I'm not alone.

And to all of the supporters who flooded in acting like none of us have played the game since the NGE was implemented, MANY of us, including myself, log in when we get free vet trials. We still think the game is crappy, still think it is horrible, and still think it doesn't hold a candle to the old game. So stop talking to us like we are uninformed, we get free vet trials every 2-3 months(does that piss you guys off that SOE basically offers us to play for free half the year while you guys have to pay?) and we can see for our very selfs how horrible this game really is.

but see, the problem is that even though you come back and play for 10 days, you still dont realize all teh changes. 'vets' are still railing against the manual aim system and lack of target lock, still think the crafting system is shallow, still think there are only a couple foods, still think there is no need to buy armor,  still think smuggler isnt viable, still think all servers are dead, . . .

there is so much misinformation out there that people continue to use against SWG that it's difficult for us to believe that anyone came back and put effort into 're-learning' the game
