I think the word achievement is turned on its head when its used in a gaming context. I think "Bender Badges" is more suited. Collect them all. |

I think everything positive mentioned here was covered back in the 90's on my favourite MUD. www.discworld.atuin.net All they've added is graphics, this MUD has an infinite amount more depth to it. Plus typing in fluent English will be mandatory for survival, that has to be a big pro. |

I played Dofus and probably would have subscribed at least for a month or 2 if they had given us just a little more free content to explore the game with. Sounds like they've done that with Wakfu. High innovation score is justified by having a playable race of cats who like to gamble. Fuck Pandas, they too stupid to even breed so why would developers include them as a "race"? Topcat was the man when I was growing up, the only cartoon sending out the right message. Crime pays. |

Agreed, its an ok franchise thats been converted to a pretty shit genre/platform. And it seems in the years its been running they've done pretty much bugger all with it, whereas I hear the latest console versions have evolved and are getting much better. Oh yeah and you can only have 4 weapons in your storage to play with. All in all, just buy the latest console version for your DW fix... Or for any gaming fix. MMO's are just plain dull as ditchwater only far more expensive. |

General: Skyrim - The Briefest of Reviews
News Discussion « General Discussion 11/30/11 7:23:08 AM
Coyote you are the reason to visit this website. It sure as hell isn't the games ;D I'm tempted to go into the loft to find and replay Morrowind while I save up for a new PC to play Skyrim on lol. I remember I actually dumped a beautiful girl so I could play with less interuption... I know right, what a wanker! Looking back I don't know who I feel bad for, me or her hahaha? No, it's definitely her. There have been plenty more fish in the sea but very few Morrowinds. I would be interested to know if magic is still the be all and end all? It felt like it was back in Morrowind? One friend of mine had created a cat like thief and he was very proud of his lockpicking skills. When I showed him my character could open any lock with a wave of his hand and an arcane looking animation his expression was priceless. Another friend was a heavy armoured melee type and we were discussing hypothetical pvp and this guy was adamant he could hack up my mageling in seconds. My only argument was "how?". I'd be 20ft up in the air raining fire and ice down on him and his primitive sword. If that wasn't working out for any reason I could fly over the wall of that fortress/town over yonder and by the time you've walked round to find the enterance I would be long gone leaving only a couple of empty mana vials at the scene.
Just curious |

Have you ever read any of Terry Pratchetts "Discworld" series? You will love discworld.atuin.net if you have. If you havent it's still an awesome MUD which stands out from the crowd. I can't sell it enough. Theres just so much detail and so many skills. They have flawlessly recreated the universe and the humour from the 40 or so books it's based on. If you do check it out drop me a line and I'll take you on a pub crawl of the city of Ankh-Morpork

I have never experienced any unique quests since my MUD days. Discworld MUD hands down has the most original quests and lots of them. If you don't have the patience to play do a quick search for the quest list just for a laugh. If you are familiar with the series you will love it. Despite being text based more effort and thought has been put into this world than 90% of the games on this site! Sorry for being a fanboy but be honest, how many MMO's on here aren't shockingly shite? Exactly, didnt need to take our socks off to count them. All jokes aside there is more depth in this 1 dimensional world than the tosh churned out of late. Bearing in mind you are just an unskilled peasant (to start) and not the saviour of the world doing the 2 (and only 2) delivery quests for the post office fits in well with the setting and is there mainly to help you learn your way around. They mostly all fit in with the humour, style and settings of the books. One includes starting (and finishing) a bar brawl and others make use of the many crafting skills available. And if you think you're hard enough you can just kill the NPC (although sometimes this is frowned upon) and parade around with his/her underpants on your head (not so frowned upon). Quick spoiler of a quest. In one house you may or may not discover on your journey, a stern, bossy looking woman is looming over her husband who is cowering in a corner... Go downstairs and you will see a mean looking poodle. Kill it and drag the corpse upstairs and give it to her... She gets upset and runs off I think and her long suffering fella is very grateful. Fanboying and shameless plugging over.

City of Heroes: Freedom; Issue 21: Convergence Now Live!

Despite being an evil megalomaniac villain I could never just go around making trouble. I would see all these curious buildings around the city but you cant blow a door off its hinges and go burning/looting/raping/shooting on a whim. Felt limited. |

Fun game and I enjoyed it until I had to take 2 weeks holiday and I imagine all my survivors were starved or bitten to death. Would love to see the whole world (google) mapped out for the game. How fun would it be to start at a postcode of your choice. Wish I was able to manage daily logins :( |

Troy Online... Is It Shallow As It Is On The Outside?
General Discussion « Troy Online 8/29/11 10:24:37 AM
I agree with most of the posters here, this game is awful. Kill 10 rats, now kill 10 cats, then kill 10 bats. Grinding my way up the food chain does not a fun game make. I too found the whole thing laughable. Oh and animals carry cash on them. I sort of knew what to expect at character creation when they gave me a chance to have blue or pink hair... Now I've seen my fair share of sandals and shield epics on the silver screen but I never saw Ben-Hur rocking a pink haircut. Cannot take the game seriously. Should be an easy review for whoever gets the gig. Just dig through the site and copy paste some other game reviews and change the name. If the game staff haven't troubled themselves to bring anything new to the table, why should the reviewer? I know it's not finished, but does this game need to be? |

General: How to Deal With Non-Gaming Friends
News Discussion « General Discussion 7/25/11 9:42:34 AM
I think you have more or less summed up why the MMO genre and its players are widely considered a joke. I don't mind a small handful of the games listed on this site, but life has to be pretty empty to find them more enjoyable or entertaining than face to face social encounters? Is it the MMO gamer making excuses about why we can't stay or us making excuses about why we wouldn't bother to call and invite him out? I think any "friend" who would rather spend time with his Paladin then his mates cannot be worth my time. I knew one guy who was a bit like this and did nothing but game all day every day, when the moon was blue and he would come out he could add nothing to the conversation and mostly sat there mute while the rest of us had fun... "So mate, what you been up too?" "Ummm....." and the pause would go on, I know a bit about the games so I can only imagine he was considering the option of telling us about his epic pixelated journies and realising how dull it actually seems to the rest of us.
"Really, dungeons, sounds great mate... I'm gonna go talk to those 2 girls over there... you stay here yeah?" |

Its a bit of a mistake to go for either soldier or policeman although very tempting as they start off with guns and a minor amount of skillpoints for said weapons. However they do (did) have an xp penalty when I played and while not noticeable at low levels it will hinder you later on in the game... The trick is to pick either a civilian class which if I remember right had either an xp bonus or in the case of Doctors Chefs and mechanic(?) a skill that you can charge other players for when you are offline. I picked policeman 1st time round and regretted it ;) the pistol he uses is poor and worth less than the $100 odd bucks a civilian char starts with. With enough scavenging you will *eventually* find something better and I stress eventually for anyone who hasn't had much looting luck. I was loosing interest coming back from my trips into the city with little more than bugger all and then when I least expected it I found a pretty bangin' SMG that lasted me the next 10 levels (which with enough ammo and the introduction of outpost attacks flew by). Very satisfying I remember something on their forums along the lines of "every dog has his day, it could be your 1st run or your 100th run". Oh and it definitely helps to know that your chances of finding anything are *massively* improved searching indoors and not outside and there was a sort of method/bug to encourage a green zombie to appear with a lootable corpse (often containing something). I can't guarantee this is still the case as I have gone up maybe 3 levels in the last year I play so little hahaha. I've been playing on and off (mostly off nowadays) since 2009 and it is a fun little browser game, I only come back once a month or so to stop myself being deleted and to see what progress has been made with the 3d version (usually none). I liked the hunger concept for added realism but what I found daft was that food that filled my belly by 10% at say level 10 only fills me by 1% at level 30+... Bearing in mind I have done nothing but running and fighting over those 30 levels my character should not have a massive gut. Eating a burger should not make me any more or less hungry at level 1 or level 100. Unless level = waist size in which case thats my excuse for not bothering to reach level 40
Edit: Sorry to ramble didn't realise it was that long till after I posted |

Only one lady I've ever been with has played computer games with me, she liked her superhero's (or at least humoured me into thinking she did haha) and stuck it out through the pawnings until she actually started to beat me a few times on Marvel vs Capcom 2... What a trooper! Only now do I realise I miss her more than ever. Gonna bypass self pity and go for brief pitstop at self loathing before hitting the highway of self destruction lol. Thanks for ruining my night lol.
All jokes aside amusing article. And there has been a crt monitor rotting at the bottom of my garden for several years now hahaha. |

Lord of the Rings Online: Bang for Your Buck: LotRO

Would be interested to see what you make of D&D, Turbines other game. I've been playing it for many, many months now without spending a penny and never felt that I had to pour money into the game to enjoy it and progress. Yet if I had enough free time to justify it I would happily have thrown some £'s their way. I cant rate DDO highly enough. I've bought 5 expansions already with the free points I've earnt from questing with multiple characters on the different servers. Because of the different playing styles of the classes repeating the dungeons 4 of 5 times with a Paladin, Ranger, Thief, Cleric etc doesnt feel like grinding and the game hasn't become a chore like most of the MMO's I've played. |
