I cant wait until they make a game where its Full on PVP anywhere, Full Loot and If you get killed it autoblocks your IP so you cannot play the game anymore. This should please the PvP people.

Rhinok ,
Your wrong. Guilds are neccessary in a game like this if you want to band together a bunch of OLDER folks in a guild and keep out the young whiny kids.

Yep , They missed the boat!
I subbed to it just to give it a try and to see if they opened things up even just a little bit. I have the money for it and if things went well I was going to purchase the huge package they have as well. I think it was 89.99. Nope. I tried talking to a person and the chat filtered the words so bad the other player couldnt understand me. Took 1 hour to Unsub. Yes, you can't even say Unsub in the game, they filter that too. Thanks Kings Isle for the 1 hour of play you gave me for $10 but no thank you, I'll pass on your products until you get out of dreamland. |

I totally got into this game. I played it about 1 year ago and it was superfun for me.
Problems I had were:
1) I hated that there were so few mob types. The mobs had the same skin just a different name. Totally sucked 2) The crab-like creatures roared/screamed. WTF? I hated that so bad I would make sure I was away from them just so I didnt have to hear it. 3) I had a hard time of progressing. My levels or power of my toon wasn't strong enough to defeat and enemey my own level sometimes even lower. When I couldn't get even a little bit of progression going then........ #4 4) The game just got boring after a while.
Add new Monsters, rebalance, and get rid of that awful roaring crab and I might come back. Quite frankly that roaring sound the crabs makes just annoys me to no end.

I subbed to it and it was mega fun.
Now they have Pirates 101 huh? Lets hope , being 40 years old, I can play without limited chat and with other people of my age group or close. That was the #1 thing that made me unsub from them. Also, lets hope they have added Guilds so you can recruit players and see when they come on and everyone of them can chat in the same box. Seriously, in this day and age of social networking, they gotta have this or ....no pun intended .....They missed the boat. |

NvM , At LvL 35 I'm already getting bored of this game. Little too theme parky(if that is a word) for me. It's just quest after quest after quest thats dragging it down.

Why This Old School EQ Gamer No Longer Plays MMORPGs
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/10/12 2:56:52 PM
Simple answer: They made the games easier so more people can play. More people = more revenue.
I'm one of the older players myself. I've cycled through so many free to play games and pay to play games and it's all the same. First thing I do when i try a new game is find the first quest person. Don't even read it , just go kill or get what I need and continue. I would say 95% of the time I click the quests not even knowing what I need to do and I'll find out later when I narrow it down.
It's all very automatic now, I dont even worry about the community. Oh? Someone needs help? screw it I'm going to go solo a bit. Really its sad. I used to be big with people by helping them out, questing with them , farming with them and getting to know new people as they come along. Now it's just screw it Imma go solo. |

This is nothing new. Atlantica Online has been doing this for months/years. I've seen people drop $100 on boxes just so they can get the newest item in the game. I'm certain there are people out there that will pay even more. I've said this a couple of years ago, The new MMORPGS are going to cash shops and will operate like this. Since that comment was made I've seriously slowed on my gameplaying and actually got into fitness and eating healthy. Seems like I made the correct choice. None of the MMO's today are worth anything. They are being severly watered down for profit only. Free to play games are dominating and destroying at the same time the MMO industry with these types of games. |

So I tried this game out just to see what it was like. I know I have tried this game out before but they shut the servers down the next day and I didnt get time to play. Anyway, I gave this game a full try this time. The begining area(Silan) is very well planned. The Missions explained alot and it wasn't hard to pick up on. I didnt get lost and there was a nice variety of animals to kill. Very few humanoid types to kill though. Given this game came out in 2004 the graphics are about right , maybe a little lower than expected, but I didnt puke on my monitor so all is good. Typical sky and clouds looked pretty good. One thing I found annoying are the ledges. I couldn't jump off of them because there isn't any jumping in this game. I had to walk around these areas and continue on. Controls aren't bad , had to get used to them though. Just like any other game. The Interface could use a bit of work. It was simple square and rectangular boxes with square and retangular buttons. I used my right click quite often and I noticed "free view" would stick and wherever I moved my mouse thats where the camera went. I had to click both buttons at the same time to get out of it. Not really a concern but for how I played, it would happen. Crafting was the upside to this game. Lots of everything to do. There is just too much to tell here and I would rather not explain it. Crafting = Great. Leveling is also different in this game . Leveling from 0 to Max wont happen in a day or seven and I'll even say 1 year. I think max is 250 in this game and getting that would not be an easy task. I suspect crafting is the same way. There is tons to do in this game. Grinding is defintely on the list for this game. All the skills are leveled by useing them. Which is something I like about this game. Gives a bit more freedom in the game. Now for the part I didn't like. The mainland. I was a Tryker so I guess I went to the Tryker mainland, dont know since I only played a Tryker and selected the mainland that matched. It was a friggin Waterworld. Like swimming? Yeah you would love this place. 50% water - 50% land , more swimming than walking. I hated that. That was a really bad design idea. What the hell were they thinking? The game is centered around, or seems to be, Prospecting materials and the Mainland is 50% water? HUH? Nothing can be done in the water except swim, thats it. Diving down isn't even on that list. It's simply straight swimming for travel. Sure, the water looked nice but too much water is just a waste. Not to mention I didnt have the teleports available so travel was 1/2 speed most of the time due to the water slowing me down. Another thing I noticed , because I did travel the Mainland enough to make this observation, there were only 10 different types of creatures in that area. The area was Huge and they could only fit 10 types in? What is bad is they had the same type a creature from LvL 5 - 52. What's really bad is there were LvL 15's about 100 meters away from the LvL 52's. What gives? It seemed like they just threw them in at random everywhere. No structure what-so-ever. I don't know if it got better or not but I knew I wasn't sticking around long. The difference from the beginning area to the Mainland was too big. The qulaity of the game fell in a huge way after that. I found myself prospecting in areas and not fining a single thing. When I did find something it was for a mission that I didnt have. I tried to like this game but I couldn't ignore the things that bothred me enough to keep playing it. It could be a great game, it just needs some tweeking and some TLC. I would say try it out just for the begining area. Don't go to the Tryker mainland though if water isn't your thing. The begining area is really quite good and it is fair to say its worth a try. The crafting and prospecting really shines and the game designers translate the idea they have for the game well. The others parts of the game are simply rediculous though. BobRoss

X-com UFO Defense? I thought I saw one on here somewhere. I just can't remember the name of it. Can be single player too if you happen to know one. Thanks. |

Yep, I had same problem.
What I had to do is use the link to download the client from the account managment tab of your account. I played the beta and got a code then activated the code and tried to update my client and it gave me the same error as you.
exact directions: go to the rift home page. www.riftgame.com/en/index.php Click on: Register on the very upper left Click on: Sign in on the upper right. (it sounds like you have an account already) when you sign in ( using your beta account works perfectly) the page will load and Manage Account will be BOLD. At the very top it says Download Client. Use that link because the Download Client under the Manage Games Doesn't work.
That solved my problem. Bob Ross

You can try doing what I am about to do. When PS2 launched I was in college and didnt have much free time. Since I had a PC i really didnt look at consoles much anyway. Now that I am out of college and really can't stand the turn MMO's are taking , I'm looking to buy a PS2. It gives me a full field of games to play that I missed. Also The PS2 will be able to play some of the classic nostalgic PS1 games that I used to play. I'm really hungry for some nostalgic gaming at the moment. I got beat over at Ebay today on a PS2 that had everything to play and 7 games for 48.00. Outbide me by 1.75 LOL! |
