egad people know nothing about business and have zero common sense. Who on earth would lay out cash to buy SOE only to watch the company slowly die by  simply collecting the meager revenue old products provide?

you want to make money as a game developer you need to produce products, and ones that are successful aka people buy and subscribe to them. Whether or not they will push out great new titles is yet to be seen, but unless SOE was dumped fire sale style odds are daybreak will not cancel everything and let the company rot on its way to extinction.

So there is a chance you are right but more than likely daybreak will continue to develope, they might run a tighter ship, they might become more EA style or what not, but lets be silly SOE was a corp who most likely had the same goals as daybreak will, and daybreak took over with the beleif they could run things better than SOE was.

2 years later on what was already an incredibly dated and crude graphics  engine is MANY YEARS LATE. 

It's a year and 3 months.

Oct 11 to Oct 12 is one year and three months later is Jan. 2013.


Guy really go away you are just wrong OPEN BETA literally EQUALS RELEASE specially for a free2play game lol. was was bad thus it failed nothing more to discuss. People enjoy playing good games they don;t deny the experience of playing them just because.

which is utterly meaningless to the product in NA. We all been through this garbage before the lack of respect for western audience. Game was ported over many years after its release hoping for a fast cash grab, all the updates get ported over miles behind. There is a reason it failed here  it was  an insult to western gamers,.


Just play FF14 ARR get 100 time sbetter product and respect for your money in the west also.


This is why we can't have genuine discussions, when we dismiss a "fact" as "utterly meaningless".

There is a ton of "crap" and "disingenuous" BS that has been spewed about this game with absolutely no fact checking done.  I personally blame SOE for this because as the "publisher" this was their job.  To make sure the public was properly informed about this game, but they dropped the ball almost as quickly as they opened the curtains on this game.

That is not "many years".  The developers had planned to port their game over to NA/EU regions form the start, they just needed a publisher first.  At the time that the launch occurred in Jan 2013, the content was approximately a year behind JP content but even SOE made a commitment to close that gap.  Unfortunately, as we started gaining ground the rug was pulled out from underneath us.

What's insulting, sir, are inaccurate comments from users who are either too lazy to check the facts, or worse, are purposely trying to deceive.


2 years later on what was already an incredibly dated and crude graphics  engine is MANY YEARS LATE. We cant have a genuine discussion cause of rabid fanbois like you. Game was an insult did poorly  end of story, play ff14 if you want a good mmo.

Westernize it 9 years after the original release and it fails, who would thunk it! How about this start respecting western gamers and release your games when they are relevant to us.
Going to answer no and specifically because pvp tends to be basic pking not pvp in sandbox. I personally find pvp to be a joke in mmo's. People who can't handle real pvp run to mmo's to prey on lower competition provided by the pve populations. So typically devs ruin their games when they mix pvp and pve as both just become half assed versions of what a dedicated dev time to either would have been

And it's sad because I wanted this game to be good, but it's just...not. That's the price you pay for designing console MMOs - linear, linear, linear. FFXI was 2002. The same linear progression and invisible walls/lack of being able to interact with the world doesn't feel so fresh in 2014/FFXIV.

I find this kind of remark sad, because its so off base its almost misleading to a degree.  I want to address it. 

1) Inviz walls, you basically mean the lack of ability to jump off the map and wander around. Now, if this was a sandbox based game I would understand the complaint, but its not. It is a themepark based game. I am certain, if they wanted to they could of designed a means to the game to give you what 'you' wanted, but in honest unless there was something to do, it doesnt really add value. 

Take WoW for example, before the flying mount days, you could walk from place to place, as you can in FF14. The only difference is that you could go into the water, but if I am honest, when I played WoW I didn't go into the water at all. The only time I would end up in it was because I fell off a pier or boat and half the time water was annoying because it would dismount you. Its about what adds value to the game and FF14 has plenty of value, even if you personally find it irksome. 

2) FATE zerg grinds are pure nonsense, you can get from 1 to 50 without touching a single FATE in a nice smooth progression. I did so, when I got in on release and I can continue to do so now. The FATE Grind comes with looking to level other jobs, because the quests are now gone you have to seek other ways to level. Early on, the most efficent way to do this was to group and grind. This is not the case any more, with the challange log and dungeons being a more effective way to progress alternative job 


The world in Vanilla WoW was there for you to explore. It's your fault if you didn't go off the beaten path, because there were some really....really cool things out there. Your loss.
 I at least -want- the option to do such things. It's 2014. There is no. reason. to have invisible walls stopping you from jumping in a river that's ankle deep, or over a fence, or have painted background scenery riddling your game so badly that you may as well just have one single road with a sign that says "point A - star there" and "point B, finish line".

And sure, you can do leves or dungeon grinding, but frankly - most people do FATE zergs. Hunting missions, leves and dungeon grinding are a poor...poor...poor excuse for "content". There aren't enough quests to level more than 1 or 2 jobs, which means grind, grind, grind. FFXI was full of grinding, but at least the party dynamic made it more enjoyable (less so now, since that game is also dumbed down to mindless solo play).

I'll sum it up like this:

I have played themeparks that have open(ish) worlds. I have played themeparks that make leveling at least mildly interesting to, at times, very fun. FFXIV did none of those things. It is literally for those who LOVE a straight a-b leveling path and have no interest or inclination ability to go off the beaten path to see "what's over there". I am not one of those people. I will not enjoy a game that is designed for the ultra-linear type of gamer.


Also - nah, I don't need your input or advice. I tried FFXIV ARR at its release and in beta. I've played almost every MMO released since 2002. I know what they are about and I know good from bad, in terms of my own standards. FFXIV is not up to my standards, pretty to look at as it is.


You may not anyone's advice but the fact Is and won't changs regardless of how much bs you spew you are beyond 100% wrong and talking out your ass. I have put far more time into mmo's thAn you starting at eq1 and I can say with certainty after recently giving ff14 a second chance after the miserable junk the original release that it is one of the top 3 mmos available period end of story.

so enough with your inept innaccurate hate. Ff14 is literally the best mmo on the market period however there are two things you must give time to adapt to I order to really become immersed for the long haul.

1) combat starts out slow you wait on global cool downs (2.5 seconds between abilities) all games have them one way or another  and because the abilities come in slowly you won't have many abilities to use until you get between level 30-50. Leveling is fairly fast so not a big deal imho but it did feel like I had to battle through it somewhat now it feels incredibly fun and enjoyable combat system.

2) I really didn't like the way you had to tab through all the small chunks of quest text because they gave you 1-2 sentences at a time. Not a deal breaker but I just skipped a lot of it and missed out on what I hear is a good story.

ok one more minor quibble the early level gear can look pretty pedestrian get very  good later on though.

get past those minor issues and you get this amazing mmo that will carry you for a long long time. Huge amounts of content specially end game which also suits all skills of gamers some very easy stuff to get you some decent raid gear some stuff very hard for those types

I played off and on since beta and have 2 accounts with active subs atm, The video was very misleading and it was very intentional, the impression is giving that that will be real gameplay footage because the initial caption is "realy player voices during "ACTUAL GAMEPLAY".


That said  I cant disagree with the people who have posted their issues with eve, and it is soo too bad they havent figured out a way to make the gameplay ACTUALLY for REAL LIKE A FACT resemble that movie, as that is my biggest problem with eve. Basically eve is a mud with a gui everything because a miniscule blip marked by an atari 2000 looking X on you screen because of the  scaling they have chosen.

they have this beautiful game but you never get to see the beauty because again you are simply managing "x"'s on your gui and same for the ingame visuals the only time you really get to enjoy the stuff is in your hanger or if you are just sitting there rotating around your ship.


Still great game but sadly not even remotely what it could/should be because of this one simply yet crucial flaw....

Uhm he is actually right. I have played eve off and off since the beta and no matter how much i want to try to like it in the end it is boring beyond all boredom. It is a spreadsheet simulator, nothing more nothing less. It certainly has logistical type of knowledge in spades, but the actual gameplay is simple and boring.

In eve the battles are decided before you actually activate your first module, because set up X will always trump set up Y so eve is 100% about running around to simply find set up Y's to kill while running away from all of the set up X's. That is 1v1 and small skirmish stuff which is the best eve has to offer it goes down hill from there as larger battles are simply a battle com telling people who to insta pop as the next target rinse repeat.

That said if that is your thing eve is amazing at it, and overall eve is an amazing game for what it does and how it has not only survived but grown as time passed.

I could even handle that stuff in eve but the real back breaker for me is the scaling for me. You just end up fighting a pile of microscopic "x" managing everything off your menu, literally the entire space and ships they created were a collosal waste of time, because you never can enjoy the beauty because of the scaling and everyhting simply being menu management.


It should just been a MUD to be honest lol.

The brief snippets of the gameplay i am seen are amazing, it seems they are actually trying to goto the next level with gameplay i am not sure they will pull it off but i am certainly hoping they manage to, because the sooner someone makes it not using the boring stale date WoW formula that is holding this genre back the sooner mmorpg games can actually make progress and become what they should be after this 10 year sleep blizzard put us into.

I cannot believe you gave this games multiplayer a pass for being one of the most poorly implemented piles of rubbish i have seen in the last decade. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS PAID FOR ARTICLE.

I am still aghast that the writer in anyway shape for form was able to suggest the variety is remotely passable.

You get exactly 3 different "themes" for the maps to follow and the maps are literally a random set up of 5 cubes out of a pool of 10 sampled over and over and over again. To make matters worse you will encounter a possible 2 sets of enemy types of which only 4 different enemy models exist.

TO MAKE IT EVEN WORSE all 3 of the tile sets have the exact same simple win condition which is plant a pole in the 5 box and defend from a few waves of enemies.


Now lets add in the fact that the gear is abysmal in the sense you can essentially gather 4 items to improve your character and of those 4 item types weapons is the only thing that drops frequently whether you get it from the rare chest in game or you open up a gold grinded chest.


Now the final insult of ALL INSULTS IS THEY TOOK THE TIME TO CODE A CASH SHOP AS WELL FOR THIS EMBARRASSING ATTEMPT AT A MULTIPLAYER MODULE.....i mean are you fucking kidding me  a cash shop HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA what a kick in the balls.


No joke this multiplayer module makes the original FF!$ online shame look like the worlds best mmo ever. it is that pathetic.


The only redeeming feature is the combat mechancis and feel are very good though controlling is somewhat clunky.

issue has always been but why keep playing? Your character never ever improves, just a pile of cosmetic stuff, so not mmorpg style.

The original design was beyond dead on arrival. Literally every character was reaching the soft cap on everything with any equipment and the buffs were useless as they blew so far past the softcaps they actually did nothing to "buff you".

Now you tie this in with an abysmal loot system where i have to grind vet rank 1 to 3 to get a new weapon that did 2 more dmg than my last weapon, and oh ya any new gear was essentially useless as i was way over the softcap to begin with!

So beyond the vet level grind being incredibly long, monotous , insanely boring,  they actually created a system that was impossible to have any type of meaningful end game content as well, for the reasons mentioned above.

Then lets tack on really absurd stuff like i reach level 50 cool! I goto my first veteran dungeon it is hard as hell, and the drops.....da da duh I need to be VETERAN RANK 5 to use this new sword that has a proc that does 3 more dmg than my vet 1 sword and has a dmg rating of 4 more than my veteran rank 1 sword!. Now go grind 40 hours to equip it talk about incentive!


Not a surprise the game hit rock bottom and all but died so fast (not even taking into account the myriad of other game breaking balance issues, like vampires being able to become 100% immune to dmg permenantly and killed 40-100 people at once by themselves.

but where it REALLY went wrong for those who could stomach the things i listed.


they confused tedious with fun, noone wants to spend 20 days grinding to get keyed.

Then they decided that there would then be ZERO incentive for doing thier tedious raid process, IE the loot was EPIC GARBAGE, so much that for the initial raids crafted gear was the best by a large margin.


They earned thier fail let the game rot was dated before it began with ugly grapihs engine.

You are to blame as well as trion. I don;t know why these games don;t do a staged  opening. you know this stuff happens literally to every game  opening hour but you keep coming back and doing it over and over.

See nothing but salty Qq's from the usual types who have gotten used to wining games with excessive play time. If the plots are being eaten up clearly people are getting on. Maybe be realistic and not think you can plow some new games with hundreds of thousand of players at once and think you will NOT be the problem.


Get a life, they cant biz model these games to accounts for the zillions of people who race to play the first days only to quit a month later.

in the end learn to win by playing better not more.

Until TSW fixes the skills trees so there is the possibility of synergy with more weapons, I just can't psych myself up into playing. It wouldn't take much to take the game from a C+ to a B+ or A- game, simply make certain branches of each skill have synergies with other weapons.  Have one branch of fists which synergized with crits.  Have a branch of assault rifles which synergized with DoTs.  Etc.

Until they do this, there are just too few possible combos.


This times 1 billion. Great game world, epically failed character progression, itemization, abilties, animations. Game should have been a winner but in the end it is total garbage imho.

not going to trivialize it per say because i went through it, but i would wager his cancer was simply a mole that he had cut out with a margin for certainty. While it is a "surgery" it really is a disservice to catagorize it as such to try to make a mountain out of a "mole hill" from the treatment stand point.


That alone kind of makes me think his reasons are a litle shady, his choice his life, i just nit pick when people fluff up big excuses. guy quit end of story, i am sure he made a lot of doe and wants a break.
