Wish they would bump the xp, then maybe I could justify playing it. |

So, anyone know why games release with only two factions?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/10/11 10:56:35 AM
The class balance is a good point too.
I think it's a shame that games are mainly sticking to 2 factions these days. One of my favorite games when I was in high school was Rolemaster: Magestorm which was developed by Mythic way before DAOC or WAR. It was basically a mutliplayer FPS with a leveling system where you could level up 1 of 4 types of mages. When you played you'd join one of three sides (Order, Chaos, or Balance IIRC) and would play a sort of conquest game where you had to protect your shrine while destroying the other teams.
I wonder if the new planetside game will still have 3 sides and if it will suffer for it. I remember playing the original and, at least near launch, all the bases you fought over were pretty much the same base copy pasted over the entire world. |

I think the main reason is that it is more expensive in terms of content to have more than 2 factions. Originally Warhammer was going to have a large city for each race, but it took so long to create the chaos and human cities that they were forced to scrap plans for the others before release. Content isn't getting any cheaper to develop. DAOC was made by roughly 30-40 people, Warhammer had somewhere around 200 developers and still had to cut the 4 extra cities they had initially planned. Advances in graphics tech usually bring more time consuming steps to the asset creation process. More factions means more starting zones, and other chunks of early content for each side, enough to carry them to the point in the game where you expect them to interact in shared content. With all games being made on a tight budget these days something has to give. Perhaps a new game could again have 3 factions, but something else in the game would suffer for it. Perhaps there would only be a skeleton of an end game. Maybe they rushed and got enough content in for 3 factions and an end game, but in their haste didn't notice it was all mediocre until it was too late. Would you play a newly released game and forgive older graphics and less interesting content because it has 3 sides? I think most people wouldn't. |

Earthrise Road Map (Launch/Post Launch Features)
General Discussion « Earthrise 1/25/11 10:04:25 AM
It looks good on paper, but that's all it is at this point. I would be really surprised if they managed to release the stuff in that list without having to delay anything. Who knows what kind of sales figures and subscription rates they've based their plans on. If they don't sell as much as they thought they would, or if too many people don't sub after the free month, their plans could be in a world of hurt. |

I used to be annoyed by SPGs, but after the recent nerfs they are very inaccurate. Gone are the days of 4 or 5 SPGs per side as a lot of people have stopped playing them now that they're not EZ mode. I play on the russian live server and over the last couple weeks I've been put in more and more matches without any arty at all. |

I thought this was supposed to be post apocalyptic? All I see are fantasy esque green landscapes with some sci fi buildings shoehorned in along with bad animations and player warping. |

An Honest Review Of DC Universe: The Game hat Might Have Been
General Discussion « DC Universe 1/12/11 11:00:31 AM
LOL @ all the naive / retard fanboys who think his beta experience isn't valid because he hasn't played the live version. The live verison is the same as the beta version! It's not like they suddenly added a bunch of content in the handful of days between the beta and launch. This game is a skeleton of a mmo at best. The OP is trying to save you some money, but if you are too dumb to see that go ahead and waste your cash on this single player mmo with 2 weeks of content. |

Pay for trial and pay to level (which is what time based leveling boils down to), no thanks. It's a shame since the premise of the game seems interesting. |

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: Most Improved Game of 2009
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/04/10 5:38:16 PM
This award makes no sense to me. Very little has improved in Conan since launch. They still haven't gotten a lot of the features they claimed would be in at launch (t3 raiding, tower pvp) and the battlekeep sieges are still buggy and unstable (not to mention the siege gameplay is horrible). The amount of content they have added is very small and when you look at how many monthly fees you paid since launch for them it's a horrible deal. Funcom has some of the slowest patch cycles of any MMO dev. They also have no idea how to balance casting vs. melee as shown by their recent, laughable attempt (casters can't use sta potions). |

AoC = Hype of 7.4 on MMORPG seem right to you?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 3/18/08 3:27:18 PM
Originally posted by Shannia Maybe funcom wasn't trying to appease "die-hard crafter players", which is probably impossible anyway. Every game's crafting system has been a mind numbing grind of button pressing with no (or hardly any) excitement, danger, or challenge (beyond the difficulty of sticking with it through the monotony). Personally I'm glad they didn't concentrate on crafting and kept their focus on more important aspects like the combat and PVP systems.

I just picked up the game. I'm 4 months late to the party and every surname known to man has been taken. Most of the people with popular surnames probably don't even play anymore. Unique first / last name combinations would have made much more sense. |

It'd be the developers that would be asking for more time assuming that they even thought they needed more time for a smooth launch. |
