Aion supposedly plans to implement it at some point.  It was mentioned in that visions trailer they released a while back.

I only say he's biased because of the way he phrases his comment.  He says how they've been taking the money of their fans.  Which, to me, although I may be mistaken, reads:  They've been exploiting their fans.  The whole comment seems to have a tone of "Wow, this game is garbage and completely underdeveloped."  I can see why he would think that, based off his limited experience in game, and all of that being ridden with lag, however, I don't believe he's the right person to give a fair representation of the game.  He most likely doesn't know how to do anything in the game other than fight people/monsters which is nearly impossible with the lag as it's been.  The whole video only shows him attempting to fight a gazelle, while suffering from extreme lag.  Does that represent what game play is like when the server isn't this unstable?  obviously not.  The server has never been as unstable as it is now, except maybe, MAYBE, when the beta first started.  I don't take him for a hater or anything like that.  I mean, he paid to get the game.  He must have had some interest.  He just doesn't, and couldn't possibly, know what the game is really like, which is not his fault.  Regardless, he's posting that video to show that the game is much farther from release ready than it really is, he just doesn't know that because of his incredibly limited and unfortunate experience which began after this patch made the server unstable.

The game really isn't completely ready for launch anyway, even with the lag fixed.  It's getting closer, though.  I expect the game to be worth playing at release but definitely not what everyone is hoping for.  Six months to a year down the line, though, and it might just be what the pre-trammel UO vets are praying it will be.  It has that potential.

So that makes perfect sense.  Someone paid $70 for a game because they knew it had horrid lag and they wanted to make such a video.  I don't honestly believe that anyone would blow that kinda money just to troll a game.
Sorry, your reasoning is wacked.

There are plenty of people who bought the game, weren't satisfied with it for whatever reason, and now hate it and want it to fail.  HerculesSAS is one of them, for example.  They're all over these forums.  Those people still have beta access unless they did a chargeback on their cards, and they can and will do whatever they can to make the game look bad.

Most of the "glitches" shown in that video are completely caused by the lag that the server is suffering right now.  The lag didn't exist before this last patch.  The devs went on vacation after the patch came out and as a result the server hasn't been fixed.  The lag is horrific to say the least, and this video does NOT give a good representation of what the game is like when it isn't lagged to shit.  The devs should be getting back to work around Monday.  Any new videos that come out in let's say a week or two should be closer to what the game is really like.  Once the lag is under control the game will be drastically different.

Here's a quote from the Youtube page, too:

"While the new mmorpg "Mortal Online" is promising to bring back the old school mmo play style of Ultima Online in a beautiful 3D world, it's obvious from watching this video that it is nowhere near ready for launch.

Now Star Vault, the company behind this production of this game has been taking excited fans money since the summer of 2009, and it hasn't been cheap. Averaging around $70 USD gives a player access to the beta client to help test the game, and 30 days of game play once the game does indeed launch."

That doesn't sound particularly unbiased to me, lol.

He goes on to say that he only bought the game 3 days ago.  This means that he has NO IDEA what the game was like before this patch, and how lag free it was.  It also tells me that, odds are, he has no idea how any of the systems work, such as crafting, house building, and so on.  This person is not the one to give an unbiased view of the game, because he doesn't have any experience with it.  I'll say it again:  wait for the new videos that start coming out in 2 weeks or so.  Those will be more honest representations of what the game is actually like.

Darkfall, Ryzom, EVE all come to mind.  Each of those games is about as far from WoW as you can get.  They give the player freedom to choose how they play.  There's little to no hand holding, and no way of playing is the "correct" way.  It's whatever you enjoy doing.

By the way, just wanted to say that NCSoft isn't a rising star, it's a fuckin' behemoth lol.  Blizzard isn't the only monster company out there.  Considering NCSoft's stranglehold on the Asian market I'd say they're probably significantly larger than Blizzard is.

Y2k(10) strikes.  They always said in the year 2000, give or take a decade, we'd see this happening.  If we're all still alive tomorrow, I'm sure it'll be up.

He was originally a huge supporter of the game, was active on the forums and volunteered to build them a new forum.  They decided at the last minute that they didn't want him to do it, and since then he's been upset with them.  He has some good points, but he's clearly biased, and has said that he wants the game to fail.  I don't understand why people who don't like games will start posting about those games.  I mean, Jesus Christ, don't you have something better you can be doing with your time?  Find another game, or a hobby, or something.  Either way, spending your time obsessing over something you dislike is a sure way to make yourself miserable.  It's unhealthy.

To make my point -- they don't have to say beta is feature complete -- this is *implied* by the nature of them saying it's a BETA.

When you say your game is in beta, it means it IS feature complete. Not that you're rapidly coding stuff in the background and adding it in, build after build. That's an alpha, and most systems in the game are actually pre-alpha releases.

I'm going to disagree with you (big surprise, right? lol).

A beta does not necessarily imply that all features are in the game.  This is generally the case, but it is definitely not always the case.  Even major games, i.e. Aion, have held beta phases that did not include the entire game.  Aion, for example, held its beta phases over the course of a few weekends and added content each time.

Here's the thing: you can argue the semantics and say they mislabeled this stage of testing.  I'll agree with you actually, this stage does more closely resemble an alpha.  However, they made sure to inform us of what we could expect.  You can say they called it a beta when it wasn't and you'd be right, but it doesn't change that they deliberately told us what we would see during this phase.  They also commented on the forums and IRC about what we could expect.  I know it's not professional to release info via forums and IRC, as opposed to site announcements, but it's also a risk to invest in an untested piece of software.  If you're going to do it, it would be wise to find as much information as you could.  The best way to do that is to read the forums and see what people and the developers are saying.  If you don't take the time to research what you're paying for, then you can't really complain if it's not what you expected, when the information was available to the public.

I'll also add, in response to your view of the combat, that you're right.  The combat isn't particularly innovative, although it does use more skill than say, Darkfall, which doesn't really allow dodging.  In that game you basically click as fast as you can and hope you do more damage/have more HP.  In this game at least you can dodge and block properly.  Regardless of that, the PvP for me was never the main attraction.   The idea of a sandbox game where I could play how I wanted, with or without much PvP, is what got me.  If I can sit in town all day and perfect crafting recipes and build a reputation for myself with my superior wares, or create a detailed, more precise map of the game world through exploration, that's enough to keep me interested until they make magic worth playing.

Beta being feature complete means that if they offer you a game that doesn't have the above features (that's their beta proposal for launch, right), it means they are technically giving you an alpha or pre-alpha build.

Beta means it will be the *exact same game* as launch.

The END of beta will be the exact same game as launch.  If the beta started as the exact same game as launch, what would be the point of a beta?  MMORPGs continue to develop after launch.  Name one game that's been out for more than a year that has only the systems and content it launched with.  I'll wager that you can't.

That's the whole purpose of beta -- to squash bugs and fix things that are broken. Not to introduce new features patch after patch, completely redesign things on the fly, etc etc. You lose the whole purpose of beta. Open beta is a stress test, generally speaking -- and an optional test by software standards but in an MMO, I'd say a necessity.

"That said we are aiming to reach this state (and start the monthly subscriptions) in Q4 2009, when all the core features above should be in place and thoroughly tested." - taken from the same post I listed.  They never said the beta was feature complete, or that those I listed would be in at the start.  They say that by Q4 all the core features listed SHOULD be in place, and low and behold, it's Q4 and they are.  That statement, to me, very clearly paints a picture of what beta would be like.  It made me think that those features would be added over time and tested, which they have been.

Again, this is the illusion of a fanboy -- suspension of reality and disbelief in logic all to push the idea that this game is great. I supported the idea of this game for a long time and will continue to, but realizing how many shortcuts they have taken, the process they have gone through, and the way the devs are being literally abused -- makes me realize that this game will have no longevity. There are going to be bugs uncovered at launch that people never dreamed of, and it's basically because of a hasty design and development process.

This part is just utterly ridiculous, lol.  I am most definitely not a fanboy.  I haven't even logged into the game for a good while, and when I do it's almost always for under an hour.  Until this last patch the game had no reason to be played, as far as I could tell.  It was just pointless PvP deathmatches, except if and when you died you had to break before going again.  That's not fun in my book.  In this last patch they actually added the skill system/crafting system, which adds some more sandbox elements to the game.  The skill system they added was exactly what I was hoping for because it forces people to choose a game style, they can't be everything.  Even a crafter can't craft everything because he simply doesn't have the capacity to learn every type of crafting, or even half of them.

With this skill system and some PvE added, the game is worth playing, and over time it will become great, I'm sure.  I'm most definitely not suspending logic, the only way I think is logically as a matter of fact.  I'm just hopeful, with good reason to be.

My brother is a true fanboy, who refuses to see the logic in any negativity about the game.  In fact, for a while there, I was kind of a hater, as I could tell that the game wasn't on the right track for release, there were no features other than pointless pvp/housing.  This last patch, however, has added 90% of the content of the game, in a rush for release.  The server crashed to shit, as I expected, but I have managed to be in game for a few hours and explore the new areas/study the skill system, and it gives me hope.  I won't say the game is guaranteed to survive, because realistically it isn't.  There are many flaws, i.e. this terrible magic system that can drive away huge amounts of players.  I'll, at the least, support the game along with most of my friends and a number of fanboys.  Hopefully our subscriptions can keep the game alive long enough for it to fix its issues and evolve into something amazing.

By the way, calling people fanboys is just a poor attempt to attack their credibility.  All it serves to do is make you look like a "hater" and actually decreases your credibility.  If I had said, "The game is the best out there and will live FOREVAH"  I could see you referring to me as a fanboy, but since I'm a realist, albeit an optimistic one, you've only served to paint yourself as more of a hater.

The game has its issues, some of which are major, and it definitely IS NOT the best mmorpg out there, probably not the best in development, either, but it will live to be a great game if it doesn't die out first.  Here's hoping.

If I'm wrong, I'll apologize openly. But would you do the same if you're wrong? Doubtful.

If and when I'm wrong, I'll always admit it.  That's a sign of maturity.  I think you failed to read the announcement, and got your hopes up based off your own illusions of what the game would be, despite the developers' efforts to keep their fans well informed.  That's a sign of immaturity.

If people had expected that beta = feature complete, as I said, then expectations for the developers would be to deliver as such. But in a continual effort to say "Oh they are an indie team!" the standards were lowered, and lowered. Many of us who were lured in by what was put on paper as what the game design was, and then experienced a game world that wasn't even close drew early points to that effect, and were flamed off the forums.

The sad thing in this case, is that the fanboys were actually believed and any complaints were closed or deleted. I have been watching threads and seeing how MO moderators see people who are upset they paid the money, complaining about the state of the game (rightly so, there is money involved now), and they are banned from the forums, their posts are entirely deleted, so that the conversation can appear to look less negative.

The thing about those "fanboys" is that a lot of the times they DID have the right of it.  If someone expected the game to be feature complete in beta... they're an idiot.  The devs said very clearly what would be in the game.  I mean, they actually told us that only certain systems would be in, and some of them would be very basic.  They made a new announcement that said what the beta would entail right before they opened the shop so everyone knew what to expect.  Even the powerpoint presentation they put out said that a lot of the ideas would not be in at launch but shortly thereafter.  Everything they listed in that announcement is in the game right now, although some things to a lesser extent than we might like (PvE and Magic, namely).

I'll specifically list what they mentioned, for those too lazy to check the announcement:

- The full Myrland continent - In (minus Tindrem - coming I'm sure)
- At least 9 races, male and female - In
- Blood mix and character customization - In
- Main features of the skill system -  In
- Full PvP, full loot - In
- Full melee and ranged combat - In
- Basic magic combat - In (though piss poor)
- Mounts and mounted combat - In
- Basic GUI for the crafting system - In
- Resource gathering - In
- Basic Guild mechanics - In
- Basic player housing - In
- Basic NPC mobs and wildlife - In(Again needs a lot more but it IS in)
- Hidden/secret features - In

This last patch obviously messed things up as far as server stability, but once that's fixed and Tindrem is added, they'll have included everything they set out to include.  If that's not enough to keep you happy, that's your fault for buying the game.  You knew what to expect, if you were overly optimistic, that's not the devs' fault.  They made it perfectly clear what they were working toward.

After that if they add all the mobs they've developed, which are quite a few if you check the files in the client, they'll actually have a pretty damn good game.  With time after that it could definitely become the best sandbox on the market, or at least the best fantasy based one, EVE's got a pretty good strangle hold so far.

I've been doing MMOs a long time. I've played practically every MMO out there, even beta'd some that never launched (eg Gods and Heroes). I was on MUDs when EQ and UO were still in the development stages, heck I even played Legend Of the Red Dragon on those dial-up BBS's. Suffice it to say I've been into the "genre" as I would define it for quiet a long time.

I understand what the OP is saying. I remember how crazy it was the first time I zoned into Oasis in EQ and it was like an entirely different world compared to where I'd just come from. There were war stories of a giant alligator named Lockjaw that would appear and murder everyone! It doesn't seem like much these days, but when everything was new, it all seemed so big and scary and unknown. It was a major undertaking if you tried to get from one side of the map to the other. It really was pretty epic.

Unfortunately, things change though. As we play the games more and more, we get more used to the mechanics and the experiences and we grow alongside the game. The problem is while we look fondly back on those first new steps out into this (then) unknown thing, we remember how much awe we had at everything, and we long for that. Sadly, it can never be brought back, because now we've experienced it all. Where once we wondered what was on the other side of that mountain, now we've been around the planet, to the moon, and beyond. It all became trivial in scope because we grew as we played. While we do remember fondly, we must also remember the things that we left behind that made the games better (in most people's eyes anyways). Ninja-looting, Trains, Looting your own Corpse, losing your corpse, etc.

I think it's simply that those of us who have been around longer see all this new stuff aimed at people who are being introduced to it firsthand, and while they still get the feeling of wonder at it all, we've seen enough of it already that it loses some of it's shine.

My advice for the OP and any other "jaded old vets" out there would be to go back to the basic facet of these games. You're supposed to be having fun with friends. Find a game that lets you do that, and just enjoy it. Don't try to ponder things that you miss or think would make this game better, etc. Just enjoy.

I think you've really got a point here.  I hadn't really thought about it like that but there is definitely some truth to this.  I can still get that feeling of wonder in certain games, but its very few and far between.  The only game that really keeps it up is Mortal Online, despite its horrible lack of mobs lol.  It's the only game I'm looking forward to right now.

Still, I don't think that covers everything entirely.  I don't only remember the wonder of the world and what was coming up, I remember the strong sense of community in the games that required you to have help for certain things.  A world with consequences when you died that created a community, because politics came into play, since people were trying to be diplomatic and avoid getting their asses killed, lol.  I remember how you could set your own goals, and be satisfied even if you were much weaker than most people.  You didn't just rush to end game because the end game was open-ended.  You could top out whenever you felt like it and you felt no pressure to be competetive and catch up to everyone else.  I think these themepark games where the fun doesn't really start until you reach max level just aren't as fun.  People say they don't like how those games made you work for everything, but the fact of the matter is, for most of us, doing that work was fun.  It made the game, and it made the reward that much more worth it.  In these games you have to do just as much work, except it seems like more of a tedious grind, and you don't really enjoy it until you finally reach the level cap.  That means I have to work for maybe 2 months to reach a level cap, and then I can start to enjoy myself, whereas I used to enjoy the act of building up my avatar over time.  The game was fun long before you reached max level (if your game had a max level, that is).

Also, on the subject of PvE, I much prefer the old Open World PvE structure.  I prefer having all the mobs in the world being accessible to everyone at any time.  It made leveling much more of a thrill at times, if a mob that you knew would fuck you up came along.  When you finally made yourself strong enough to take on one of these mobs, it may have been the hardest thing you ever did in the game but you had such a sense of accomplishment.  In these games today, we'll take WoW as an example, the difficulty never really increases except with raid bosses.  You only gain access to mobs when you're already strong enough to handle them, so you never really appreciate just how strong they are, because you're already on their level.  In fact, most gamers don't even know what strong mobs await them in the next dungeon, although it's likely a different color version of a mob they fought before.  In the older games you heard people that were stronger than you talking about these epic mobs they had to fight and you couldn't wait until you got your chance to take them on.  These days you don't get excited for the upcoming mobs, because they're only a means to an end (usually loot) whereas in those older games the thrill of killing the mob was an end in itself, loot was a bonus.

That's my feelings on the matter, anyway.

Trickster Online looks basically exactly like it.  Might be worth a shot.

The game MU Online had a very diablo-esque feel to me.  It's an isometric top view camera with an interface and graphics that are very similar to Diablo's.  I played it for a year or so, very fun game.  They've changed it since then and I'm not that fond of it, but its still a lot like Diablo.  Maybe give it a try and you could like it.

If I can play this on my PS3 with a mouse and keyboard, I'll do that, otherwise I'll go PC I'm sure.  The PS3 can handle the graphics we've seen so far with little to no problem, plus then I can play it on my 61" 1080P TV without having to lug my pc into the living room whenever I want to play.

I consider a character in an MMO to be a represantitive version of myself.  It doesn't have to look anything like me, but the personality and behavior of the character are determined by me.  In a single player game, if I don't edit the character in any way, only play it, I don't consider it to represent myself.  It's a set character with its own personality/decisions that I control, but may or may not do what I think it should at certain times.

Its the biggest MMORPG ever made, most popular, highest earning, and by far the most dominant. It'll be a long time before an MMORPG overpowers WoW, and with the new graphical update with Cataclysm, add a few more years onto that. The Lore of WoW also makes the limit of expansions quite high indeed. Why would Blizzard stop making a game that makes them billions? Only when WoW becomes very unpopular will that "crime" be dealt. So basically, I'm wondering why that with everyone thread posted, someone comes along and insults WoW. With 13 million active members, all paying £10 per month, it can't be that bad a game, can it? So why dis it as frequent as people do?

Thanks!

The short answer is that WoW is easy and it's a themepark game.  Most of the nerds who played MMORGPS before WoW (including myself) played games that were much more like alternate worlds, and not games.  For a lot us, those were the golden days of MMOs.  After WoW came out and became the most successful thing ever in the MMO industry, development teams started to focus on games like WoW, trying to get themselves a piece of the pie.  With that a lot of developers stopped making sandbox MMOs like we were used to, and for us themepark games don't offer anything near the experience of what we experienced in sandbox games.  It's not WoW's fault that it was so successful and that the rest of the industry tries to follow its lead, but it marks the turning point from sandbox to themepark that so many of us resent.

Seems the SV team released the patch ONE day before they were taking a 2 week vacation.  The servers will not get fixed until sometime in January.  SV really screwed up on this one... seems they have no strategy at all, just throw stuff together and hope it works and leave the next day...  They are suppose to release next month, so they will have less than a month to fix all bugs, get a better patcher system, release a NA server and get a real installer...  Won't happen...

Anyone else worried?  Discuss...

Your such a noob and a troll. Its nice that you 'forgot' to put in the link where they are taking a 2 week vacation. I'm a full loot bag holder, and i've been in since Block A. The game makes leaps and bounds.

A 2 week vacation after releasing a massive patch leaving the game down for 2 weeks - sounds pretty retarded to me. They've given themselves an extra month just to iron out the bugs with this patch!

The game won't necessarily be down for two weeks.  Not all of the developers are taking a 2 week vacation, some of them have opted to take short ones and keep working.  Realistically, the game will not be ready in a month, but with this new patch (actually look at what they added - its ridiculous how much content has gone in) if they can get the bugs worked out and a few things tweaked, it will be ready in 2-3 months.  By the way, there has been no official word on whether or not there will be an NA server.  I personally don't think they need one.  I play from Florida, and have since block A, and I have little to no lag, ever.

No, you're right.  I think, including the non combat mobs, it only has around 11 in the game.  They actually have many more mobs created that are not in the game, though.  You can find their sound files and some models in the engine.  Supposedly there will be many more mobs in the game with this upcoming patch.  That's what the recent newsletter said, anyway.  Based off what I've seen in the engine, there are quite a few mobs to come.

You have in game, currently:
Weasels, Domestic Pigs, Gazelles, Horses, Razorbacks, Wisents, Wolves, Direwolves, Minotaur, Terror Birds, and Skeletons

Along with these mobs, the client we currently have has files for:
Armadillos, Babuntas, Bronthotherium, Bull Horses, Care Bears (lol), Cats, Chickens, Clams, Crocodiles, Cups, Dolphins, Donkeys, Dragons, Emperor Moths, Goblins, Hair Balls, Horn Tails, Inner Sea Spiders, Khurite Hawks, Lictor Cranes, Lizards, Lizard Men, Medium Horses, Mussels, Myrland Horses, Needle Balls, Night Fiddlers, Nightsnatches, Orcs, Plate Fish, Rabbits, Rats, Scorpions, Sharks, Skunks, Snails, Squirts, Taur Dogs, Tribe Rats, Trolls, Turtles, Urials, Water Lizards, and Winged Spica.  I'm  sure there are more too, in different directories, that I haven't listed.

I think the videos do a good job of getting the viewer hyped, though.  They do demonstrate the scope of the gameworld and some of them show a fair amount of PvP.

For those of you who don't know, Mortal Online recently held a video contest where players in the beta could create their own movies from inside the world of Nave.  The contest received 33 entries and the top five have been selected.  I just watched them and I think they're great.  They really give you a good idea of what the game is like so far, the positive aspects anyway.  I encourage you to take a look at them.  You can find all five here, on the official Mortal Online website.  The game has a lot of promise as I think these videos show.  With this upcoming patch on Monday it will be much, much closer to being release ready.  This one month delay is a good thing and hopefully it will give the devs enough time to fix any major bugs in game and get this thing on track to being the amazing game I hope it will one day be.  Enjoy the videos.

This is kind of long.  Didn't expect it to turn out to be such an epoch, lol.

1.)  Ragnarok Online - I was the leader of a guild with my level 99 priest, this was before the advanced classes and all that.  I came up with a build that worked really well for me, prevented all status ailments, while allowing me to heal for over 2k and cast at a reasonable rate.  I was basically invincible on the character.  So We're fighting in the War of Empyrium and I think all my guildmates are dead.  Regardless, for shits and giggles I decide to keep running around the opposing guild's castle.  They're chasing me, trying desperately to kill me but I have near 90% dmg reduction and can outheal all the damage they're throwing at me.  I get a message from a guild mate ( a rogue) telling me he's in the empyrium room, invisible.  I go into the empyrium room and pop in and out of the portal a few times.  Eventually everyone follows me out to kill me.  The room we're in is a giant square with several levels, steps really.  Anyway, I run around the room constantly and eventually realize I'm in no real danger so I just stand still while around 12 people are desperately trying to kill me.  Meanwhile my rogue guildmate is smashing the emp by himself.  The message comes up saying that we've taken the castle while they had no idea there was even anyone else there besides me.  I smile and wave good bye to them right before they're forcefully teleported out.  Great times.

2.)  Tibia - A friend of mine and I were at the Orc Fortress North of Venore.  I had just started playing the game again after taking a break for a few years.  We're standing in this small entrance to the fortress waiting for a third friend who's supposed to be coming.  I'm playing a druid, my friend's on a paladin.  I think I was level 28 or so at the time.  My friend was maybe level 22 or something like that.  This level 36 Master Sorcerer walks up and starts pretending to say the command for electric wave, a powerful spell that can kill a druid in one hit if the caster is powerful enough.  He throws a few smilies our way ";)" and the like.  I know he's going to actually let one go soon so I tell my friend that over MSN and say we should head back to Venore to meet our other friend before this guy takes us both out.  He agrees and we start to leave.

The Sorcerer isn't on our screen so we think maybe he's not following us.  Then he suddenly pops up and I tell my friend to move away from me, so at least one of us won't have to die if he starts firing off waves.  Sure enough he does and I'm the lucky one to get hit, I assume he wanted whatever runes I may have had on me.  In Tibia when you die you lose a percentage of your total exp(you can de-level), some skills and whatever you have in your inventory plus possibly pieces of equipment, it's enough to make the battle real for you.  I manage to outheal his damage, barely, but because he's a higher level he's faster than I am.  He uses great haste and ends up blocking me off by standing between two trees, the only way to get back to Venore.  He starts shooting me with his wand, doing moderate damage, throwing in the occasional wave spell.  I try to back away, hoping that he'll follow me so I can maybe sprint past him through the trees.  Meanwhile I'm PMing a high level friend of mine to tell this guy to fuck off before he gets his ass hunted.  He finally leaves, out of fear, I assume.  We later find out that his main is one of the highest levels on the server, and one of the scariest.  It all turned into some political BS between us and him, with him lying and saying we tried to kill him, but eventually it got worked out.  It was definitely an adrenaline rush.

3.) Tibia - I was playing my druid, he was low level at the time, maybe 18 or so.  I'm killing amazons at the camp North of Venore when a paladin comes along, level 26 I think.  This is like 3 AM, by the way.  I'm about done so I start to head back to town, the path is very narrow, having to slide past trees and rocks and such the whole time.  I see a white skull pop up on him, meaning he's targeted another, non-skulled player, me.  I tell him that its obvious and laugh it off, thinking there's no way he can take me down because my magic level is ridiculously high for my level.  I continue on my way to town with him firing bolts at me the whole time.  I laugh and heal it off easily enough.

I decide, you know what, I'm gonna kill this bastard and put him in his place.  I start firing at him with my rod, doing small amounts of damage, move in for the occasional exori vis/flam and continue on my way.  Turns out, he has some healing runes on him.  He heals my damage with healing spells and then starts using the runes when he's out of mana.  At this point I'm pretty fucked.  I haven't brought any runes with me and my mana's getting pretty low.  We get to the entrance to Venore, a ladder going up near the docks, still a minute or so away from the nearest safe zone.  I call out shortly before we get to the ladder, "HELP, PK!"

Unbeknownst to me, a friend has just logged on (fuckin' 3AM, remember.  Wtf kind of time is that to be logging into a game?) and PMs me asking if I'm serious or not.  I tell him I am and the PK and I continue going up and down the ladder, me trying to prevent him from targeting me and getting any shots off.  I'm black HP at this point, one to two hits and I'm done for.  My friend shows up while I'm on the top and I go down as the PK goes up.  My friend instantly slams him for some decent damage.  The PK comes down the ladder as I go up.  I fuckin' book it for the depot(safe zone).  The PK doesn't have time to chase after me with my friend taking his HP down.  My friend manages to kill him in a few seconds and gives me his loot.  I narrowly escaped death and actually got the bastard's loot out of it.  My heart was pumping the entire time.
