Nice review, considering resubbing now. I especially agree that the quality of the quests are a major draw. They tend to read like a book as opposed to a series of directions with a plot carrot diced and tossed in. This quality pulls me into the storytelling element in such a way that I unconsciously paint my character onto the pages by my own volition.

Stop creating multiple accounts and inflating the hype meter and I'll consider it.

Prepare yourself for the onslaught of ninja company reps telling you how great this game is. |

-Join a 0.0 corp and help carve out a portion of space(combat pilot, industrialist, researcher, spying, black ops, fleet commander, miner, ect ..ect). Good stealth and recon pilots are always needed. There are even all stealth pilot corps who contract out recon missions behind enemy lines to gather intel for a fee. -Join the dark side. Become a feared and respected Pirate, assassin, scammer ..ect ..ect. Can be done solo(I was a solo pirate with less than 3 mil sp) but easier if in a corp. Solo REQUIRES a deeper understanding of game mechanics such as efficient use of the on board scanner and analyzing the statistics view of the star map to get kills and avoid nasty gate camps. The tools are available, its up to you to use them. Join any corp low or high sec and help maintain and protect the player owned station(s). Engage in "economic PVP" with rival corps. With exploration you can probe out "rat complexes" in solar systems for profit. Join a mercenary corp and contract out you guns. EVE is a canvas, your creativity and effort are the paint. Its a harsh game and those who don't survive are usually the ones who fail to use the tools provided and the head in their shoulders. Before you say "such and such is impossible" ask around in your corp(NOT the starter corp) or on the EVE forums if anyone else has done it. Often the reply will be "yes it can done". Ask how, follow the advice and execute. |

Basically you specify a goal, in this case a Wolf or Jag AF; and the certificate will show you what supporting skills are needed in order to achieve your objective. Here is a link to the new features page. Scroll down to "certificates" and click on the corresponding image to see it visually. |

Playing a couple of open source strategy games, mainly Battle for Wesnoth. Still... I'm dying to get some battle goodness with my now useful AFs. |

I would suggest the EVE corp and alliance recruitment forum if you have not already done so. Also EVE University exists for new pod pilots, keep them in mind. Welcome to EVE. |

Dear fellow MMORPG.com readers: You know those idiots on the WOW forums who link other player armories and say things like "nice arena rating noob" and such? Yea, EVE has them too, except they're 27 instead of 13. |

I just never seem to be able to find my place in EVE

That's a familiar story, not only to myself but I'm sure many others as well. After a year solo / small group roaming pvp and pirating I joined up with a 0.0 corporation several months ago and haven't looked back. Its a entirely new game, from combat and industrialization to the high risk vs. reward. Things really do matter out there, a wrong move in a hostile region can be very costly to you and possibly the corporation and alliance. Null security is the finest “white knuckle fun” I've had in any online game, or almost any game and I've been gaming since the first Atari 2600 unit shipped from Sunnyvale California. It may take a few or more 0.0 corporations before you find the right one, but when you do its well worth the time and effort. Remember, your hard earned ISK and the efforts of players since the inception of EVE are dependant on every move the pilots make out there, be it combat, industrial, leadership, science, or diplomacy. Its truly a team struggle; team effort, team win, and team loss. If that little EVE bug is itching you again I suggest beginning the search for a 0.0 corporation that suits your goals, and respects you not only as a gamer and pilot, but as a person behind a keyboard and monitor as well. |

Graphical Vs Text Based MMO'S...Immersiveness

My favorite MUD is currently BatMUD, click on my sig to go to the site (not a referral link btw). I copied this from their own description of BatMUD. They also have a nice custom JAVA client created specifically for their game.
The Game features include (but are not limited to) such as the following: 44 different races, 31 of which are immediately selectable, rest available through stages of rebirth (higher stages) or invitation only (player-run races). 100 levels for player characters with special titles, during and after which special reincarnation (re-spec of player character, including changing of race) and rebirth -options are available. An extremely diverse skill and spell system, correlating on your character's background, chosen guilds and secret societies. A very detailed combat system with partying and raiding (party linking) options and statistics. Player to player commerce, with tailored guilds and carts to facilitate trade. Playerbuilt items, castles and cities. Seafaring and shipwrights, including sea battles. Ridable mounts and customizable pets. Hundreds of custom zones (areas) stacked with items of unforeseeable powers and bonuses." |
