If by "old-school" you mean you bought the game, then your account will be Premium right from the beginning, then you have the Legendary option which is the 14.99$ monthly fee.

try operation 7, pretty good MMOFPS, you can costumize everything in your weapons, u can buy clothes,u earn levels etc, it haves many players, the clinet is small, give it a try hehe

Try warrock it's a pretty nice game, its fast paced and have many features, but it kinda have many hackers.
Or try wolfenstein: enemy territory, its a good one too, have almost no hackers, have LOTS of players and other nice features.

Try warrock if u like modern battles and wolfenstein if u like old battles.

Go for aeria games they have more ppl (sry for givin wrong site)

Well i've tried archlord, it have nice graphics but the grinding is pretty boring, Ace online it's pretty cool, its different from other MMO's, grinding is kinda fun in there, it has a quite decent PvP(for me), but last time i've logged on i didn't saw much ppl playing it, but try it if u like spaceship fights. Anyway the MMO i recommend u is Atlantica online, it's a turn based game, it has pretty nice graphics and some cool features that u can check at http://atlantica.ndoorsgames.com/    Hope this helped
