 I have to completely dis-agree.

If this were true, why doesn't EQ2 have 12 million+ subscribers?

I'll put it to you like this...

My ex-WoW guild (of whom I still keep in contact with) all got AoC and started playing at live launch.

Servers are back up today and where are they?

Raiding a dungeon in WoW.

....

More proof of AoC's lack of captivation.

If AoC was the second coming like it was all hyped up to be they would have uninstalled WoW today and logged into AoC. It wasnt like that for me and lot's of my friends when we first started playing WoW...we logged into it and never had time to uninstall all the games on our desktop because it CAPTIVATED US.

*sigh*

You and your friends seem to base AoC on WoW. Doing that will ensure AoC IS a failure. It ISN'T WoW. Wow doesn't have city building.

Don't compare them. If you want the next EQ/WoW wait 3-5 years from now

Right because WoW was huge f'ing failure.

 Thats not my point.

My point is that they are different games and bot hare at different stages.

I have nothing personal against younger gamers. My son is 15 and we game together all the time in MMO's. We both have had accounts together in CoH, WoW, SWG, Tabula Rasa, and EVE.

Having said that, my question remains...is it a requirement to be 18 to play the game or is that just a requirement to purchase the game ? Is it even a law or just a suggestion ? I dont know much about how the video game industry polices these things (it wasnt that long ago when games didnt even have a rating system)

It's a rating. Just like with movies.

But unfortunately most parents today don't give a darn about those ratings and let their kids watch and play everything anyway *sigh*

Yep and when those parents find out the game is is violent or has sex, then they blame the game.

BioWare knows what they are doing when it comes to making something: Mass Effect, Kotor(Knights of the Old Republic for those who don't know), Neverwinter Nights.

In all honesty, I'm not worried. I trust BioWare in their endeavor.

 I have to disagree.

Because of WoW their will eventually be an mmo thats much betetr than that, more fun, not a grindfest and it will be popular because of what WoW did to the genre.

Heh, looks like someone got tired of waiting for Darkfall..

Anyway to the thread, Age of Conan will be populat no doubt but ultimately its 'Adult' audience is its fatal flaw.

A large portion of gamers are not Adults, however a large portion of them are in the college range. That might balance it out.

I suppose you could say 'You never forget your first.'

I missed EQ so I promised not to miss the 'next' EQ. I picked up WoW in early 2006 after playing a bit of EQ2(was alright for a time but I grew tired of it.) Eventually, I found a guild and leveled my Human Rogue to 60 for BC. After that, all downhill.

I could say though, that WoW will reach that same point of lost interest as EQ, the only question is when.

Did you quit during Fall 07, out of curiosity?

I haven't read too much of the replies here but I will note that I think the way Stealth is being implemented is that your character will be drained of something so you cannot be invisible forever.

This is the same for every tiype of game. From Everquest in the early days to San Andreas in recent years.

The fact of the matter is that alot of today's parents won't take responsibility for raising their child badly. On top of that, alot of parents are totally ignorant of games. "Oh its just a game, it doesn't have sex or violence in it. Its like Pong right?"

You think Wrath of the Lich King is going to hold a candle to what RvR is?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh god..Thanks for the laugh.

You can return to grinding another 10 levels in Warth of the Lich King, then grinding several more months for arena gear or grinding more months for that shiny new epic mount that looks different.

 No thanks.

One of the biggest flops would have to be Dark and Light.

Vanguard was far from a really bad game.

I have to completely disagree. Dark and Light didn't hold a candle to the hype Vanguard had(hell if you check the gamelist Vanguard's hype meter is 8.0)

I doubt Conan will flop as horribly as Vanguard. You have to understand the Conan license is very popular and on top of that, Funcom screwed up the launch of Anarchy online not too long ago.

I would think they learned their lesson.
