Honestly what the hell is cryptic going to do when SOE relases DCUO?  It's using the free Realms payment model and from all acounts dosen't suck huge ones like CO does. Cryptic should make the game F2p now while they still have a chance.

I stumbled on this blog post about AoC  this morning, I have seen guys trash the game and guys love the game...but this is a unique analogy and damn funny give it a read.

DDO failed so hard at launch because Ken Troop was the lead developer, Troop has zero clue on how to build a MMO, and spend 3/4-ths of the development cycle playing Pen and paper D&D in the break room at Turbines offices and laser tag in their hallways ( I know this because I both interviewed for the project and personally know two the original team members) After Troop presented to the world the broken steaming pile that was city of Doors ddo Turbine gave him a ridiculous golden parachute and sent him back to WOTC where he then drove the D&D virtual game table into the ground. Troop was the single worst thing to happen to Turbine since David Bowman.

DDO has come a long way, the current devlopment team actually has made the game bearable to play though it still is a whole shitload of missed potential.

Free games tend to draw more riff-raff than P2P's.

Total units sold as of  02/03/10  221,965

That's directly off  the GS terminal, so while No there may not be a 1 million active subs you can pretty much bet your ass it's close to a half mil active subs, and considering that Cryptic is buying even more servers again...a crap load of folks are playing the game, will they be playing next month? who knows, but  as of point now the game is doing way wy better than cryptic hoped,. No it's not the fucking Paris Hilton of MMO's like WoW is...but you have to give Cryptic props for  getting this far.

Same boring ass bang bang your'e dead BS. They alienated so damn many players that begged for a comprehensive PVE game, they threw all their effort into PVP and failed majorly , they could  have still kept a sembelance of an audiance instead of the endless free trial whores who make up about 99.9% of the people who still log on.

The only way this wil even end is to make gold non-tradeable between players. You should be able to use gold at auction houses for an item that is priced for fair market value and with NPC's . This will shut down the gold industry for good.

Say what you will it is an internal thing, I have been told by folks I know at Ncwest, that ther are some pretty sketchy folks working there. That's why I use a virtual Keybaord a key scrambler and buy Gamecards.....Hopefully the up coming company purge will take care of things.

It goes against the whole concept of the game. The west dislike pvp no matter how much they go on boards and claim they do. They will run back to any game that feeds them re-hashed epics and make them feel better for putting in nothing. Aion Vision will bring in more players so if making the game more carebear is what it takes then they will surely do so.

I have to wonder if the Carebears have won, The producers letter doesn't seem to bode well and from talking to Friends at Ncsoft ganking seems to be on the chopping block, "Americans want a social game" is currently being chanted at NCsoft west, and was the reason the so called Vision trailer was released to give Rainbow Bright and Paddington bear hope for the future. So They let you flag yourself a no participant in Rifts, or worse provide PVE servers where all of the victims will run to.....seriously WTF has become of NCsoft...in L II they told the west to suck it, now We are getting ready to build houses and ride giant Squirrels just like Tinkerbell, all because Ncsoft is afraid of what SS is going to do in the next lameass version of FF
