That's what all the wow players thought WAR was missing. it wasnt enough like WoW so they left.

You will never, ever capture the wow player base without a solid raid game.

WAR is a much better pvp game than WoW, if it was as good pve wise it would have over a million subs right now.

But ....but Carrie says you only want to kill people...  you know....in the face.

Oh and Beggining of the end

EA will Earth and Beyond this bitch by Christmas.

Funny that they're going to close it down when there's an expansion coming out. It sure does make sense to me, oh wait. Perhaps you were the one that had a few too many pints (insert smiley here).

And could you post a link to Mythic and EA announcing this expansion?

STO had its shot and missed the mark. In the end, it is just another mostly failed MMO to throw on the fire, when the remaining diehards finally give up.

Yeah the SWG vet nutjobs have been crying that same tune about SWG for almost a decade now. Whishful thnking don't make it so.

I quit WoW a few months ago, and sold my account so unfortunately I can't go back now, even though I'm regretting selling it :(

Anyway, it seems the next best thing (gameplay/graphics wise etc) is Warhammer Online.  Warhammer Online looks really fun from what I've seen on Youtube and having played the endless trial for a few hours today, but it seems everywhere I go people are saying "it's dead, it's like a ghost town, stear clear!!" etc.

I'm just wondering how true this actually is to be honest.  When I start a new MMO I like to go into it with the mindset that I'll be playing it for at least a year or so, and investing a lot of time into it, so I just wanted to know whether it IS infact dead/dying and a ghost town, before I purchase & subscribe to the game.

I know some people will think "well if you enjoy it, what's the problem?" but that's the thing, whilst I may enjoy it, that enjoyment will only last so long if I hardly ever see anybody ingame and the population is constantly on the decline.

So in all honesty, is the game dead/dying or is it worth playing?

Thank you.

When the producer dujour Carrie G (who has zero clue about the industry despite her supossed ten years in it)  cut the throat of the PVE game  (which was already in shambles) and killed any hope of ressurecting the hopelessly broken crafting in lieu of "Killing People in the face" PVP she basically put a dying MMO out of it's misery.

EA is going to shut it down later this year I know that for a fact, the entire team is being retasked and the dead weight is being laid off,  GW is quietly taking the license to a new company I have i on good authority that THQ will get that as well as they are working on a yet unannounced WHF RTS similar to Dawn of War. But don't expect it till 2015 way after the fail of WAR has been forgotten

And no links no way to prove any of this I just know folks at GW who like to talk after a couple pints. :)

You are everything that is wrong with the MMORPG genre OP.

"I don't want to read story! But it's so boring to level up grinding quests!"

"I just want to get to high level as fast as possible and show of my epics! But there is nothing to do in this game but getting epics and show off."

It's sad and pathetic.

You should be playing "Grindcraft 2.0 - The Search for More Epix" and leave the real MMORPG play to those who aren't 12 year olds hyped up on mountain dew and ritalin.

Honestly, if you aren't going at SW:TOR with the mindset of "I am going to enjoy the story and leveling experience" you really should not even play this game, or talk about it, or post about it.

Spoiled little children.

It's so sad.

I was going to post but I can't say it better than heerobya bravo. Typical mmorpg.com fail OP and Im not that big of a SW:tor fan.

I played the 1st free month and it was ok. What turned me off was how the ground combat which i was looking forward to the most wasnt polished at all. The animations where crappy, just a mess. Have they addressed this and polished it up at all?

Its better but they still need to work on BOFF pathing and AI you can really see the difference between the missions avalible at launch and the ones added via patch the huge patch comming up is suppose to solve  lot of this.

The hate depends on who you talked to Hardcore gamers hate everything  with the possible exception of EvE  and pre CU SWG.  Then we have the Hailing frequency crowd they are the last vestiges of a site called sto.net, Sto.net can't get over that perpetual (the company that had the STO licensee )  failed, they pretty much hate everything Cryptic has or will do and will buy accounts just to rant on the forums. The you have the I hat cryptic because I purchased a lifetime Champions online account just to get in the STO beta and only got to beta test a couple weeks.

Personally I find the game fun as do a lot of other people for a game to be failing  it's interesting that Sol always has at least ten instances the DS9 RP events on Sunday last week filled up four separate instances, (that is no small feat even some of the devs who joined in were shocked) and according to My wife who works for Gamestop Corporate sales are still very brisk....Hates gonna hate it's that simple if you find the game fun OP keep playing when it stops being so its time for a new game...how sad it is that the vast majority of so called games can't grasp that simple concept.

I don't fit into any of your categories.  Didn't know about sto.net, don't like EvE or pre-CU SWG, and I didn't buy STO because the beta sucked.

The game is shallow, has little content, costs as much as a AAA title to buy, has a AAA monthly fee, and then tacks on an Item Shop.  That makes it cost more than almost any other MMO on the market, while at the same time delivering less.  Combine that with very lousy ground combat and you are essentially paying top dollar for Starfleet Command game which is crazy.  Now the price for the box is a bit cheaper of course (30 bucks at Gamestop), but the other costs are still quite high.

Yep and that's called opinion,  what do you consider a AAA title? WoW? EvE?  whatever it is I can probably find just as many folks who will say the exact same thing about thouse games. Seems to me your real beef is with MT's and a Sub, the great thing there is no one is being forced to sub or buy Mts ( In Soviet Russia MMO plays you)  the point is that one opinion is no more or less valid than the other...you may like or hate STO but in the end it all comes down to preference...

Headline should read Aion has officially failed in the Western Market because Korea can't get that Forced PVP isn't something most westerners want  we are choice based not "boot on the neck of humanity" based like they are.

Honestly when I was in Seoul last year I was shocked at the sympathy and support for Kim Jong-il by the teenagers and twenty somethings...they want a dictator they actually hate having choices in life, it's insane.

You've got to understand that when you say that you say it from the point of view of someone who has had choices in life (to a degree).

How many people can truly say they explore all choices given to them and don't fall back on old habits.

Wanting a democracy of some sort is a large social choice that any socieity will make when they are ready.

You don't think less of a 6 year old for wanting/needing to hold the hands of their parents when they cross a street or to that 4 year old who hides behind their mother's legs when company comes? They will make that choice when they as a society are ready.

As far your assessment regarding forced pvp, it could very well be that they view pvp as a completely different experience than we do. we might see it as forced and they might see it as an integral part of the fabric that is an mmo.

It's just a different point of view.

So basically my point stands then our cultures just don't grock each other,  on the gaming end yeah Blizzard had great sucsess with SC, and will with SC 2 but honestly thats a fluke, and just because they may veiw PVP differently still means they fail in the west because they can't grasp how the vast majority of western gamers feel.

There are people leaving, but there are also a few newer players trickling in at about the same rate. From now until the release of Cata however, these will be a gradual decline of players due to boredom, because quite honestly, Wrath is getting pretty stale and there's barely any additional content left before the next expansion.

.
What happens with a WoW player?
.
They play for years. They get bored. Leave.
.
They try a few games.
.
They return to WoW cause everything they tried sucks.

This is so true ...help us SW:TOR you are our only hope.

I also noticed for the first time that Brad has a punch me face, not a smed punch me but a punch me face none the less

Yep I can see it now  a dark ages version of Farmville where you'll have to typ/hail before you can interact with a merchant.

Should sell millions.

The internet as a whole.

Specific communities may have been superior in the past, but I think they are all crap now. I think it's a combination of people who have always had the internet in their lives (lacking social skills that they can't get online), and a shockingly high abuse level of SSRI's/Ritalin in the late 90's that got us to this point.

A lot of people are not only socially impossible, many have unknown levels of long term brain damage all thanks to their own stupidity and Doctors that were more than happy to write yet another prescription to help make Big Pharma that much fatter.

Wow...there is a shit ton of truth in what you just said.

NC soft is downright afraid to offer a free trial.

 Uh..yeah http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/2/10/

This game will not be released until q2 2013 at the earliest, "speculating" ("" As in getting a jump on looking for things to bitch about) on a brief clip this early..is well just retarded.

Umm 1984, like 12 years before the first Warcraft game .:) Hardly decades. I have been playing Warhammer Fantasy Battles since then. And that Crap game wow stil has 11 million subs and acording to that article I just linked looks like WAR will be moving to one server. I call that fail of epic proportions

I don't like EA, but you can't blame EA for WAR.  They are the publisher, and the game was released in as good of a condition as one can reasonably expect in an MMORPG these days.  The Mythic team was given alot of money and they didn't produce anything but a mediocre, niche game.

Agreed heck just read  what the guys over at cotw wrote Seems like EA was drinking the same Koolaide we all were.

no.. if he was any good war wouldnt been shit.. its easy to blame ea.. but mythic once released barebone doac.. which somehow survived 10 years ago.. and supposedly  was hit ( which in numbers it wasnt.. it was just fans screaming louder than others )
and same shit happened here.. do you think it was ea fault that war servers had max 2k ppl per realm.. or 1k at launch.. and 2k 2 weeks after.. i dunno if they ever increased it.. it wasnt mmo.. game was divided into like i dunno 50 zones.. and wasnt open world.. you would have 5 players if ur lucky per zone.. that was what killed the game.. you can blame early release.. but game ran better in beta than it did in retail..  design choices which werent made by ea killed the game , poor networking codding is the biggest reason..  wow had 5k server capacity on 2005.. and 10k soon after.. i dunno if its any more now.. but when you launch game in what was it 2008? with 2k.. at best.. ur just screwed  oh look pvp game without noone to fight with

I don't want to sound cruel but..there is some truth in this...all of the guys who are getting laid off are talking about how proud they are of WAR and what a great company Mythic is. How can you be proud of that steaming pile of shit? And I don't say that lightly I saw the potential, saw the foundation they laid for true living cities, saw  that at one time a deep story based PVE game was planned saw the beginnings of a PVP game that rivaled DAoC, but they half assed the whole shebang.  And the only ones who are saying its good now are the six counterstrike kids they have stupidly listened to from the start.

WAR could have should have  been a huge hit, but laziness poor management and just idiotic decisions made it otherwise. Personally I would not hire any of these guys, you don't say that you are proud of a broke dick game like WAR. Especially when your IP holder (Games Workshop) apologizes for it at their biggest game convention. (Baltimore Games Day)  and swears that it will never happen again to one of thier products.

And even today they still just don't get it, look at their webpage they have  that stupid killing people in the face blurb, and the just out of touch brainless producers letter, and you can bet your ass the site won't be updated for another month or two, but they want you to believe that everything is a-Okay
