a lot of it seems to be stress testing the servers and optimizing for NA servers. I found out recently that the beta had to be extended for NA due to broadband limitations, cuz apparently korea has much better internet service. The game should have been released a lot sooner but because of this issue that's why they have had many more beta secessions and pushed back the release.

of course there is always hype building, feedback, etc that they get out of it as well.

while im not much of a PvE guy, ive tried about all of them for the hell of it. As far as comunities go, LotRO and CoX both have very good communities. CoX is kinda odd in that u dont really get any armor/weps etc, u just power up your abilites and select more as u level, etc. Kinda simplified in that all you really do is beat up on npcs solo or with others. LotRO is more standard MMO in that u got most of the basics in there. crafting, gear, classes, raids etc all set in tolkien's world. has an epic story line aswell which is kinda cool, and only 1 expansion which i think your fine without even. (havent played since before xpan came out but i leveled fine into my 30's).

Everquest 2 is also a fairly good game, but it has ALOT of expansions (u can buy them all in a bundle but as u said u dont want a game with alot of expansions, it is hard tryin to figure all of it out at once). but it really wasnt all that hard to learn, ppl are generally helpful on pve servers and i was able to level up a coercer fairly easily without any real prior knowledge (think i got into high 50's low 60's before leaving).

Thats about all i can recall from the top of my head, but mostly because they were better then average games.

Banned!

And they also make it harder for macroing so going right direction:)

Today we started permanently banning accounts involved in using 3d party programs to exploit. Don't be surprised if you've used these programs and your account is banned. We'll continue doing this every day while simultaneously attacking these issues at their source.

Thank you

so, it's a game that you have to macro in order to progress thru repetitive bullshit; but you can't use a macroer to accomplish these boring tasks?

so... since you could get by some of that boredom in UO... that means, instead of next gen, this game is pre-uo gen?

wowzers batman, never before has stupidity been so fun!

Unless I read fanbois wrong earlier, you can macro but only if you are in front of your screen. So basically you can macro but you have to watch it macro LOL. I guess it's called "attended macroing". So it just makes you even more lazy so that you don't have to move your arms or have a functioning brain, you can just eat hot pockets while you macro..

attended macroing is allowed, my guess is that they send you a message and if u respond you can go on ur happy way. while im not sure the difference (if ur watchin urself shoot MM or not does that really matter?) i think players themselves take care of the macroing problem. Since its not allowed in town, people can just kill you and stop ur macroing if they want. I think this method is enough but... meh w/e.

I see macroing as dumbing down the game, u want to just start off powerful and not have to work to achieve it? do you also put in godmode every new single player game you buy just to beat it? but besides that if you just macro something up ur not instantly gonna have the money to use the better spells/weapons that are now avalible to you.

You can macro if it really helps you out in some way but i dont take pitty on ppl that get banned in any game for macroing.

I believe I read on the Darkfall forums that they are allowing for 50K accounts on the server but that they expect to see 10k online at once at any given time, if thats true they I would like to account share with 1 of the other 40k accounts that are sitting idle please =).

i truly hope that isn't true... if it is, that is a horrid idea for a game just released.... even if they are deliberately going thru and only allowing X accounts per Y timezone; you have to account for people on midnight/graveyard shifts, with no jobs, no life, etc who will be playing at times outside of their time zone's primetime.

500% accounts vs anticipated capacity during the first month of release?  oy.

It's just what I've been picking up on on the official forums, but I know what you mean, if the server is truly optimised for a 10k concurrent population what happens if another 20k of the overall 50k logs on? does the server suddenly go "POOF" or is this all factored in? I've no idea becuase all I seem to read is heresay, nothing solid from Aventurine that I've seen.

this does pose problems in the early life of an MMO, everyone is so ready to play that they play longer and more often then normal. If they are planning on letting eu-1 being the only server till 40k+ people are subbed, we probably will see crashing issues. The only upside is a second server is in the works (release unknown) but more importantly the server has gone over the 10k limit at once allready and held up. As some people said this game is kinda like in paid stress test, but atleast their servers can handle the load so far. (no server crashes have been reported as of yet.)

is this the same city siege that was posted almost a week ago? not knockin it but didnt it start as someone sayin 150+ then 200+ now 300+? lol (if this is a different one sry im too tired to read all the posts).

As a person who has played Darkfall since launch, yeah pretty much everyone likes it.

I say pretty much because I guess there will always be  someone out there who wont like it, but tbh I have never met anyone in the game who isnt loving the hell out of it.

The NPC AI is great, the Combat is awesome and complex, the graphics are actually pretty good, its funny how many of the things the trolls are spamming is simply not true.

-Darkstar

Just a thought here...  Maybe you never met anyone ingame who doesn't like it is because they all stopped playing?  Why play a game that you don't like?

You spoke logic to a Darkfall fan...

... everyone hit the ground !

OMG.. that's like dividing by zero! shouldn't happen! We are all doomed now.

while that kinda holds true hawk, every MMO ive ever played, i allways hear people bitch ingame first before they quit. Ya i know some go silently, but for the most part (expecially in AoC) ppl will say "this game is so (insert explitive) im quitting!" the fact that a player doesnt hear alot of this is probably a good sign that the players are not leaving in large numbers. While im still waitin for my copy, i have been watchin mani's live feed every so often, and i have seen ppl talk crap on the game allready, but that was only a few ppl cuz he was killin ppl around the starter zone. The complaints were not even on the graphics but on the fact they died near a starter zone (tho if you have been payin even slight attention to this game, u would know you really arnt safe anywhere.)

Also it is unlikely ppl that are fighting eachother daily just to play this game are going to quit right away, as they are more then likely hardcore fans. last i heard (friday) there were 9k+ ppl online at once. so take that as you will.

Hey! Just wondering how many of you people like DFO?

Many people seem to HATE it but everyone who's played it appart from a few have said what a great game it is!

What do you guys think about it?

Good...or ....Bad??

Gonna fail....gonna last for years?

WoW killer?.......Or not

Thanks

probably would have been better to ask this on darkfall's forums; same amount of fanboi's but less trolls atleast.

Either way it boils down to this: 1) Do you enjoy PvP? 2) have you been disappointed with all the recient PvP games because there is no consequences? (or simply nothing that makes the PvP exciting/enjoyable). 3) is gameplay more important then graphics?

If you answered yes to all three then you may want to check out darkfall, if you answered no to any, then probably stay away. In all honestly this game is decent at best, graphics are fine, but is sub-par compared to most things released since 2006. Im not gonna say bad as they do look good, but so many games are graphic intensive that they mostly all outshine this game. The entire game revolves around PvP combat, with PvE and crafting added to help fuel the fire (mostly).  its twitch based which adds a level of skill needed to play, but it is somewhat simplified (no exaggerated attack moves). I myself will be getting a copy because i haven't found any PvP game that has held me for over a month in the last few years (WAR held me for 2 months, EvE for 4. mostly hung around due to friends not the PvP.)

I doubt this game will fail, while its very niche it will stay alive. Will it hold my interests? well after i start playing is the only time i can tell, but since there are real concequences and something to fight for/against(city siege) it should keep my interests for quite awhile (DAoC was the only PvP game that i played for multiple years and the reason was there was a point to fighting with your realm).

well thats my opinion on the game anyway.

Not sure how to say this without creating problems.  My question is though.  Why is it that even in this video you see the same spell being cast as all the others (mana missile or whatever it's called)?  Every Darkfall video I've seen the same spell.  Are all the other spells just useless?

since players havent had alot of time to level up magic skills (and from what i can tell, most people focus on melee/archery) no one is going to have alot of attack spells. I think there is only 1 in lesser magic (mana missle) might be a second but dont remember, but you need 50 in lesser just to buy greater magic (then 50 in greater to buy the elementals, or 25 if ur goin WC or SC) so ya thats why you see only mana missles so far. I have seen a few poison bolts (or whatever the poison dd is) allready since release but that was from 1 player. Also if i remember (btw havent played yet) mana missle is free to cast (except the mana cost) while other spells require regents.

Just because a game has a skill tree does not make it sandbox. If WoW had no level and you only built on the talent tree, would it be sandbox? No! Sandbox is about player freedom. It is about being able to not hold a weapon, ever, and still have lots to do in the world. It is about being able to build stuff (almost) anywhere, actively changing the world you and other players are experiencing. Is is about having a real self-sustaining economy. SWG was a sandbox. EVE is a sanbox. DF is just a poorly implemented shooter.

wow....... u consider eve a sandbox as u state, but u CANT craft anywhere in eve u MUST go into a station so throw that point out; and if i remember correctly u couldn't craft anywhere in UO either, which is, of course, the original sandbox. Sandbox is NOT about never picking up a sword, while that may give people that don't want to fight something to do, it not a requirement. Sandbox simply means you are given a set of tools and you build your own content (but if u want to argue the last point, you don't have to fight if u don't want to, u can craft all you want and never pvp). Both eve and swg give you a set of tools and you can play the game how you want, there is no path you need to follow, you can go anywhere when you want and (usually) have something to do. so far from what i've seen, darkfall does the same thing. Is it more based around one thing? yes but that doesnt suddenly make it not a sandbox. Want to actively change the world? attack another guilds city, kill others or form massive alliences, steal mounts, take control of the economy by being the best crafter.... all of these change the world of the game, maybe not the landscape, but it changes the game for other players.  As i don't own the game i cant say anything on the economy, but since a lot of stuff is crafted, destroyed, taken, broken.... economy will play a big role in darkfall.

well... just disproved all ur points

{ Mod Edit }

Been payin more attention this last week to darkfall as no other PvP game has really been satisfying for more then a few weeks over the last few years. While im gonna wait regardless till the sales cool down and i dont have to fight for a copy, i still have some questions about the game; hopefully someone that plays can give me some answeres.

Crafting/gathering: I understand its kinda like UO, u can chop trees, mine, etc, but how is the crafting system overall? is it just plug n chug or is their any interesting aspects that make it more enjoyable? while im not usually a crafter, i did attempt it in EQ2 as it was a bit more enjoyable and served a good purpose (made food/drink and everyone needed that constantly.) Seeing as how this game is kinda like Shadowbane in that cities are built im hoping that the crafting and gathering system is somewhat enjoyable.

Magic/archery: So far all ive seen in vids are players that all look somewhat simular (gear wise) and use a large 2h wep + either a bow or magic when the other runs away. I know thats kinda the point of sandbox, everyone builds their character the way they want (and i enjoy that aswell), Is this about the only viable option? I hear shields ony negate some damage and can break (only heard this once so i could be wrong) and i have yet to see any spell besides the blue (Hadouken!) magic ball. I've seen the spell lists so i know there is a ton of magic to be learned, but is it going to be viable to be a caster based character? from what i can tell is armor only affects spell casting by a slight increase to casting time, but then theres a skill called armored magic (or somethin) so im guessin that lowers the penelty.

I was kinda hoping so be caster focused with melee as backup, but if that walnt work i doubt im going to get this game. Reason being as of right now it seems even with all the skills they say their are, it almost feels like everyone is gonna be focused on very simular skill builds.

Insightful comments from actual players would be perfered thx

not to bad of a build, a few recommendations tho; i've built computers for about 4 years for people so this is from personal experience.

Im unsure of foxconn company, ive never heard of them before, but reviews are mostly good so you should be safe. I tend to use asus motherboards, but for my last comp i got one from MSI, was skeptical but havent had any problems with it in the 3 months that ive gotten it.

You may want to consider upping to a AMD phenom, 30 bucks more for the quad core 2.3GHz  version compaired to what u have listed, but well worth it if ur a multi-tasker like me. If your more of a one thing at a time user then the 5200 should be fine.

as far as the video card, I have lost my trust in Radeon and switched to Nvidia and havent looked back for 3 years. This was just my experience with them, but the customer service was poor and they only ever sent me auto-reply messages, i never was able to talk to someone with why my graphics card would cause my comp to freeze in several games, I sent quite a few reports of what happened, what i was doing/playing but never got anything back that was useful. As i said I havent had any problems with Nvidia yet, currently running an 8800 GT with dual monitors and i can run fallout 3 and watch a movie simulaniously without lag on either.

Ram is really hit or miss, ive gotten bad sticks from companies i trust, but thankfully newegg is good about replacing bad products. If you want my recommendation tho i would go with kingston.

hope that helps

We want memorable moments rather than cookie cutter quest lines that any old 'raid party' could do.

Exactly how i feel, and I haven't had any truely memorable great moments since i played DAoC. Sadly it was the only game (before clustering) where fighting for your realm ment something and you felt good that you accomplished something with your realm.

Obviously im biased towards PvP games but what i feel is lacking in almost every game that has come out in the last few years that has had PvP in it is the fact that there is nothing to fight for as a realm/side/group or w/e. Everything is for personal gain (items, gold, or even just saying haha i killed you) and not for any type of gain or loss as a whole. Relics affected everyone in your realm, so it gave meaning for everyone on your side to help, and fighting to take your enemies relic or defending the ones you had usually turned into a massive battle and led to many memorable moments playing MMOs for me. I wish someone else would add a system like the relics into a PvP based game because i would be all over it in a heart beat.

I havent seen any games with player run economies start up reciently, and some that are upcoming walnt be for awhile so unfortunately your gonna have to work with whats allready in play.

EVE has an incredible player run economy (possibly the best imo) and even tho its several years in, its entirely possible to start now and make your way up, only problem with EVE is the learning curve is quite rough on most people.

Lineage 2 has a completely player run economy, however this game gets quite annoying to me due to the fact that only 1 race can craft and items are very expensive, hard to get into but i was able to get into B grade armor before i called it quits.

FFXI probably would be a good aswell, tho i never really did like the crafting system in that game, but even so i made money fairly easily probably due to the fact that i was a WHM so i didnt really need to keep my gear my level, regardless you have to be a good healer even if you are in good gear for FFXI.

Everquest 2 has a pretty good player run economy, while it is alot easier then most of these other games to find gear without crafting, crafted items are in high demand and you can make serious bank from crafting. I reciently started back up on eq2 and it has made alot of improvements in the last few years, XP isnt hard at all you can grind it out if you really want, and i think the purpose of this is so that you can turn off your xp from monsters to get achievement points when you want, then flip it back on and get a few levels when you feel like it.

Thats about all i can think of off the top of my head

new patch is up for grabs, atleast for PW people... not too sure if regular OB players can grab it yet.

I actually did buy mine threw D2D so ill tell ya exactly how it works. After paying for the game, you will get an e-mail (about 10-15 min is what it took for mine.) Inside are your open beta key and your head start/bonus items code. Then go to your master account at https://accounts.eamythic.com/ and input the codes (if you don't have a master account then make one.) Then you can download the client from Fileplanet, you just need to input your beta code for verification and you DL it like ur a premium customer. (when i dl'd it there were problems cuz so many ppl were trying at the same time, i think that is fixed by now tho.) After that you just need to wait for open beta, you probably will beable to dl the patch a day before open beta servers go up (maybe not that depends what mythic decides.)

When the game goes live just check back with D2D and they should have your game keys ready (most likely they will e-mail them also.) When game is live you still get a grace period of 3-7 days i think to put it in without disruption to your account. You will not need to re-download the game or anything because u already have it, just need to patch and ur good.

Hope that answers all ur questions

It's the simplest way to do things i think... and you can just download the manual. and you are assured to receive an OB code

^^^^^^

probably the easiest way to do it. Tho you have to dish out the full payment right away. You are atleast guaranteed your codes. (I did mine through D2D but only cuz i trust mythic from my experience with DAoC.) Codes come to ur e-mail after you pay, quick and easy. Put them into ur master account and ur rdy for the weekend .

sorry to say, but thats a dumb idea. I had a credit card in my name when i was 12 and my dad paid for it... and im sure other kids with deciently wealthy parents do the same. Also i prefer to use debit over credit. Regardless, if they only allowed one or the other kids will still play the game, they will just use their parrents card (which most do anyway).

check out www.warDB.com best site ive seen so far, tho it still doesnt have all the skills up yet.
