I have a few toons on Malog and Thurin.
Malog has an interesting political situation at the moment. CN is now enemies with Nations its been allied with for a long time, Castle Dragonscale seems to have been completely wiped out from there.
Thurin has a well established Korean nation and Dragonscale is holding out there.
I joined a guild, I'll just group with some R7 farmers and level off them.
Thanks for helping guys.

I appreciate you trying to help me but I didn't say I was a new SB player.
What I said was that I was playing on the Vorringia mapset for the first time and I wanted to know where I could find a mob camp near a safehold.

I used to play SB a long time ago and it's one of my all-time favourite MMORPGs ever. I missed it so much I decided to come back to it.
I haven't played since before the reboot, and I see that the Vorringia mapset is the only one being used. I can't see why though, Aerynth and Dalgoth were fun and having multiple world maps was one of the things I liked about SB.
Anyway, I'm using Vorringia for the first time, and I'm a little lost. I got my toon off of noob island and I joined the safehold guild Aeldreth. But now I can't seem to find any mob camps. I tried asking other players but no one would help me (community quality's gone down a bit, eh?). I have a Templar and a Wizard at the moment and they're both R2. Are there any mob camps near Aeldreth? If so where? And if not I'd appreciate it if someone would tell me where I could find a mob camp near a safehold.
I'm too low level to defend myself from other players in the Strife Realms, and wandering around aimlessly in search of a mob camp is getting me PKed too often for me to find one.

If you like browser games, check out tagoria. Those sorts of games are pretty cheap, but hey, some of us can dig em :P

I tried it out, but it's a text-based game. I'm sorry, but I'm not too fond of those.
When I said I liked Runescape because you can play it in your browser I ment that I liked it that it was an actual game (character avatar and you move around and whatnot). Thanks anyway.
Anyone else?

I've never been a big fan of anime MMORPGs either, but what I ment is that I'm looking for a game where the majority of the players aren't from Asia. For example, although they do not make up the majority of the player base, when I play Shadowbane I'd notice that a good part of the player-owned cities had Asian names (written using an Asian alphabet) and many players talking in the game channel wouldn't speak English, but Chinese or something.

Wurm Online you say? I'll look into it. Anyone else willing to suggest a game?

I love playing MMORPGs, but the ones I'm playing/have played are starting to bore me and I'd like to find something else.

What I've played:
Runescape-Anarchy Online-Shadowbane-Guild Wars-World of Warcraft

I'm looking for a non-Asian game, preferably F2P/Micro because I'm in university right now (I have a few weeks before semester starts) and I can't waste money on a game I won't be able to play other than on the weekends.

I know most people hate Runescape because they don't see it as that good a game (after the PvP/Trading updates last December I can't blame you) but what I liked about it is that you don't have to download anything (you only have to have Java) and you can play it right in your web-browser, so players can access it from anywhere. If there is another MMORPG you can play in your browser I'd like to give it a shot except I'm not sure there is another...

Thanks for taking a look. :)

Well, mathematics are there and there's nothing we can do about it, so the best thing we can do is try and not let it be a big deal.
If you ask me, there's nothing wrong with having to use your head a little every now and then, it helps prevent the mind from slipping and teaches us to think quickly and improves our strategical know-how.
Mathematics are used in our everyday life, and MMORPGs help us do basic equations in our head. However, if you simply don't like it just keep a calculator handy.

Silkroad Online, 2Moons, Perfect World and a couple others have pretty decent graphics for F2P games..
But as the others have said, graphics shouldn't be a priority, after all we're playing MMORPGs because we love playing games and not because we like to go "ooooh, lookit da pretty thingies on my computer screen!"
*points to quote*

I feel sorry for them. Where they are it's either a bad job or no job.
Players that blame Gold Farmers for ruining the game should instead blame the people who use their services, thereby encouraging them.

F2P or P2P?

Well I went to the official website, and all I could see is BUY IT NOW! or 15 DAY FREE TRIAL!

Could someone clear this up for me please? If you're going to post to re-direct me somewhere, you could at least make things clear.

Hehe, nice topic ;)
Here's my poll, thought I'd try something different:

and if you like runescape pvp your sad because all you do is click on the other person and watch.

Find us a game as good as RS which can be played in a web browser on nearly any computer without having to download the whole thing onto your hard drive and we'll go there then.
One of the reasons I love playing RS is because it is a pretty good game for something with no mandatory fee. I don't always have time and play and it would seem like my money is just being wasted, that was why I didn't stick around in WoW too long.
And you have to admit, those recent graphical updates are pretty decent for something which is Java based.

Well I haven't tried it out myself yet(I'm about to though), but I've leafed through the forums and everyone seems to be madly in love with this game.
Apparently it has a steep learning curve, but once you get in there you won't be able to get enough of it.
The reason why I'm excited about this myself is because this is going to be the first Sci-Fi MMORPG I've ever played, and I'm confident it will be a pleasant experience.
Hope to see you in-game! :)

F2P or P2P?
General Discussion « Shadowbane

I've heard some very good things about Shadowbane, and I'm interested in trying it out.
I checked its overview here, and it said that it was F2P, that you just downloaded it for free off the official website and played, no monthly fee or anything.
But then I went to the official website and it said that I had to buy it first.
So now, I'm confused, which is it?

I've heard some very good things about Anarchy Online, and I'm interested in trying it out.
I checked its overview here, and it said that it was P2P, that you had to buy the game then pay a monthly fee, okay no problem with that.
But then I went to the official website and it said that the game was free. I thought "yeah. free trial" but it said nothing about a free trial, it just said that the game was "absolutely free".
So now, I'm confused, which is it?

Unfortunately, this is not a free MMORPG.
In a way, this is a good thing as it keeps most unpleasant "freeloaders" away (that doesn't mean that everyone that plays a free online game is bad though).
But if you aren't playing on either of your accounts, just stop paying. No sense in paying if you decided you don't like the game. You're kidding yourself, thinking that this is "just in case" you one day decide to return, it won't happen. You either like the game or you don't.

Believe me, it will be quite a challenge to find a (partially) F2P MMORPG as good as Runescape.
Let's see, RS is a browser game, which you do not need to download onto your hard drive, it only takes 20 seconds to load and you're ready to go.
The quests in RS are unlike those in many other MMORPGs, where the quests in other games are more appropriately seen as RS Slayer tasks.
There are indeed many many other good online games out there, but 90% of them are P2P.
For freeplay games, it requires a good amount of research to find the perfect free game out there. Here is a list of F2P games to get you started:

-Planeshift (Beta testing)
-Myth war online
-Flyff
-Maple story
-Shadowbane
-Rappelz

Those are the ones I can think of right now. I'll see what else I can dig up.

I think if Jagex made a Japanese/Chinese/Korean translation of the game it would probably become the most popular mmorpg. Beacause other popular mmorpgs all hav chinese translations which adds like an extra 3 mil players so it would add to the 5m players playing atm.

That would be disastrous, seeing as the game would become overrun by Asians who probably don't speak any language besides their own, which would lead to a good number of the paying members (mostly Americans and Europeans) to quit, dealing a heavy blow to Jagex's income.
And Jagex has already stated that the autoers(people who don't macro, but harvest resources in order to sell RS gold for real money) are mostly from south-eastern Asia, so thaat would only help increase the rule-breakers' activities.

Jagex does not run goldsites, you freakin' idiot!
And you keep on rambling on how RS sucks for non-members (who apparently have members items? you're a bad liar), well looky here, it is the members game which recieves 99/100 of the updates because they PAY! You cannot honestly expect to get updates when you aren't paying!
And guess what, most MMORPGs have the problems of goldsites, autoers and scammers. Runescape is not the odd-one out, I'm sorry if you personally had a bad exerience, but that doesn't mean it is not a good game, either suck it up or go somewhere else, that's life and you're not special.

I have never anticipated the release of an MMORPG as much as I am towards Planeshift.
It really is a very unique idea, and has loads of potential, despite the fact that the blokes at Atomic Blue develop Planeshift in their spare time.
