Asheron's call population = virtually non-existant or else I'd be
there....wow = trash, eve = boring, GW = single player game.
SO.....What are the server populations like? Does this still feel like
an MMORPG?

So most hardcore gamers I've talked to, especially MMORPG vets think this game is trash. It's fun for a bit but severely under-developed as far as MMO's go. WOW is a fad game and has a huge fad database because it is popular.
With that being said I know a good portion of the population are blizzard fanboys, fad gamers, and people bored with other mmorpgs. I have met very few people that have played and actually like wow for more than a month. So my question is when will wow die, in your opinion....I'll even throw in a poll Oh, and by Die I dont mean fail to exist I mean......stop being so damn big, popular, and consuming of other MMORPG's population |

Endgame content besides rating discovered!
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 6/18/06 1:34:09 AM
In traditional games end-game material that wasnt raiding was loot gathering for better equipment as well as pvp. Back then randomly generated items meant you didnt run the same dungeon raid 800000000000 times to get the "best" sword so you could compete with someone else who will have the exact same items. Being cookie cutter is boring to most people. this game is just too small so it feels like it has less "end-game" material, and it ends really soon. The world is TINY, the diversity of areas/loot/monsters is very minute. This all makes the endgame boring.
It's also really lame that it takes doing one piece of end game 15 times to start the next piece...etc.etc.etc. And that there are only a very few amount of end-game raids and it takes like 6+ months for them to come out. In older mmorpgs you could get new end game stuff every 2 months if not monthly. |

ok the good first.
PVP is exciting, there arent a million weapon/combat skills to use in the game BUT the ability to manually control your character to dodge things such as spells, ranged attacks, and even melee attacks makes PVP frantic. On top of the fact that almost everyone even melee classes will be using magic to debuff in PVP....well PVP gets quite awesome. now the medium Tradeskills are ok....cooking is pointless except for dyeing, fletching and alchemy are GREAT for a ranged character, and really anyone for alchemy. and the worst..... Population: This game is a grind, one big grind. Back in the day there used to be hundreds of people in a few small areas trying to grind...the exp wasnt great but the community was so the grinds were very fun. Now the servers are very close to empty. You will see people saying "all you have to do is look for people" but come on, its an mmorpg, you shouldnt have to be "looking" for people. There is almost no localized trade areas, hunting...etc. Sure every now and then people will group up to do a quest, but not all the time. I guess the biggest hint about population would be that there is a general chat for the ENTIRE server and it is very much devoid of talking.... This game used to be beautiful before it made some turns from the worse and lost all of its population (the first not completely but partially leading to the latter). |

the tusker islands tripled the rate of leveling. The more this game turned to a powerleveling game the worse it got, the less people played, the more botting existed, the less people went to trade areas. Uber leveling was IMHO what lead to a huge drop in the population for this game. It made the mid levels almost non existant. The other islands didnt do that. I'm not sure what came out after the tusker islands but nothing before those ever did that.

The exp party split being even for everyone after 50....
Tusker Islands The bad ass direlands area where everyone went after 50 (not the original dires) The spell economy should've never been touched from the beginning Portal magic should've been left at 1 tie, so you could only recall/summon 1 place, also only lifestone recall to 1 place Allowing any type of botting The recallable trade area (can't remember the name). They should've just left it at subway. Tinkering (it was a good system but it was one of the ways the game turned into a purely PL, uber gamer fest) One change they should've instituted in the beginning was fixing the level tree system between monarchy's, they never should've had that in there. Exp pass up to the top as nice but it was way too extreme. I can't think of any more right now. |

Lol, you misunderstand. Those rants are about other games my friend, not the beautiful AC. I know our ac is still a lovely thing. If it had the playerbase it used to I never would've left in the first place. They never should've allowed any type of botting at all.

I miss all of this so much. I remember getting my first atlan stones, the day i got my SOLL (sword of lost light w00t w00t) I read in the manual about it and was like WOW, the most powerful sword EVER. I remember hunting cows outside of yaraq, golems and revenants in the halls of metos. Hunting lugians was so much fun with all 5000 people there. I had the wi flag, most people probably dont even remember what that was. The game was never a grind for me, it was always just so much fun.
My favorite memory was probably my first time going to subway and seeing and hanging out with all of the people OR my first lightning stone run. I remember we had about 100 people go, we set up the meeting on ACVAULT.com. It was back when it was an hour run from the closest portal and we got SLAUGHTERED, i think about 15 of us actually finished the quest. Perhaps my favorite part was that the game was so much fun, and so exciting that quests used to make me shake, i'd get nervous trying to do stuff because it was so much fun. |

I think being an AC baby has just ruined my mmorpg experience. I can't find any game with a community, expansive world, loot system, continuously updated content, or overall entertainment value that comes anywhere CLOSE to ac's.
I miss messing around in eastham or qalabar, I miss getting a group of 20 level 20's to do stupid stuff because the game was just that fun. I miss setting up groups of 50 or more to do quests like the lightning or acid stones. I hate how there is no random loot system anymore, every character is so cookie cutter. I really miss being able to have a huge world to play in, having to run for 30 minutes to get to my dungeon, i hate it being 3 minutes from the local town. If the community was still in AC i would be there also but the last few times i've gotten on in the past few months it has just been a ghost world. I think because AC has ruined my I might never be happy with an MMORPG again, Vanguard seems like it has the expansive world that might just get me hooked but I can't tell; waiting on the beta. If Vanguard fails me I believe I will be retiring from the MMORPG universe. Well, I guess all that I really meant to say was.....I miss you AC.... |

Im an old school MMORPG'er and to me WOW is junk. The lack of randomly generated loot makes for cookie cutter characters. Instances make it so that unless you dont have a social life you wont be getting into the very end of the end game stuff (which is the exact same as the first part of end game stuff with new graphics and is slightly harder....big whoop). The world is TINY, you can cover all of it in about 3 hours just running around, how lame is that. and battle grounds make it so that PVP in the world is limited to getting ganked when you are level 20 by a level 60
When I play an MMO i don't want to be like every other player out there, with the same uber sword everyone else has, I dont want to be stuck in a dungeon with a max of 5 people trying to take something out that I'd rather have 200 to do, and I LOVE to explore and feel like im accomplishing something by traversing a dangerous world and finding the "lost" dungeon and defeating it to get my item. Not flying to the local town, running for 2 min on my mount, and then instancing. The PVE is just atrocious, the world is so small that only certain groups of monsters will spawn in certain areas of a zone, and im not talking big areas, im talking about every 20 square feet will spawn something different, and it will spawn only that. |
