I'm an ex-EQ1 player, played on and off for about 2 years. I'm a casual player so playing EQ was a mix of fun and work, precisely the reason of why it was on and off. I will tell one thing that EQ2 players know but will never admit to....... IMO, WoW is more like EQ1 than EQ2 will ever be. Don't get me wrong, WoW as you mentioned doesn't have the same stupid grind, corpse runs, death system, but it does have the best of what EQ1 had to offer. For starters Racial Towns/Areas, diversity in content, diversity in tactics (each class and sometimes within each class). I don't play EQ2, but merely reading from good sources it was easy to detect they have removed everything I liked about EQ1 (and I was waiting for EQ2 not Wow):
It may not seem a lot to you but those are the things I liked the most about EQ1. On the other hand, Wow allows you to do all of that. I admit kiting is not 100% like in EQ1 but it is still doable. Racial town and places are a blast, you play as a dwarf or gnome is totally diff than playing as a human for instance. I could go on and on, on the goods (graphics are great, art is ever better) but I will just mention the only thing I really don't like about Wow: Character customization, I think if they had done a better job on this item, Wow would have been perfect to me. Char customization is really poor. BTW, to be more precise: (the best of)EQ1+(the best of)DAoC+better graphics+Warcraft Art=WoW. |

If you don't post often enough you will lose levels and become a newbie again. |

You can go to control panel->adm tools->services and remove a lot of useless stuff windows has. If you're not running a server, first thing is to disable server and computer browser(theyr linked). Then there is more, like remote registry crap and such. You can do a search on the internet in order to know exactly what you can disable. |

Couldn't agree more, rolled one to be my main char... Well I wanted to play a troll not a rastafari. WoW doesn't introduce anything really new, but it implements all the right ideas in a fun way. I think in a nutshell (better Graphics)*(EQ+DAOC)=WoW, which to me isn't a bad thing at all. On Dark and Light, it is getting a little too much for me as well. |

1.6ghz 512Mb RAM and NVIDIA 4600 TI 128Mb on DSL, this decent but dated system ran the game just fine. All textures and lightning are at max just one option I left at default. NO LAG ! |

Right on, spawns are really frequent, might be mistaken but mobs seem to spawn in different places even in a dungeon. Is it what you called dynamic spawns ? |

Had no issue whatsoever. Installation, account creation, patching and playing all as smooth as possible. Very different from Horizons launch where nothing worked. |

*** Need more RP servers !!! - Graphics are OK, I'm not too crazy about the cartoony look of them but they are ... Adequate. - Beautiful landscapes though - Ambient sounds are very well done. - Quests are very well done, lead you to what you have to do in a fun way. - Char and Mob models are very well done, Animation is perfect making the world seem alive. - * Didn't like I cannot look up and down with the keyboard like in DOAC, only using the mouse (grabing the camera with mouse) - Installation and download of patches was noneventful. - Not much char customization I'm afraid. - Didn't like much the spell effects at low levels (I know still just low levels) - Many skills at low level though can't way to level up :) - Low level content was really GREAT, each racial town had a near by dungeon and plenty of mobs (even though newbie areas were pretty crowded yesterday:) - Racial places ! Really neat ! Feel as a night elf is totally diff than as a gnome for instance. Or undead :) - Didn't group yet, I was invited but declined was still playing with the interface and chars, next time. |

RP enforced servers should allow 1 character only. All other servers should allow several chars. PvP servers that implement faction/race/group wars should only allow chars of the same group/faction/etc. |

Thanks for the info, it seems that EQ2 might be a little too demanding (time wise) for me. Maybe I will try it anyway but my impression so far is that EQ2 is less soloable than EQ when you take the most soloable classes of each. In other words, EQ had a few solo specialists which are absent in EQ2 even though of course you still have better or worse soloists in EQ2. Well too bad, WoW graphics don't really appeal to me nor does the class/race selection or even the lack of customization. |

Like many I have limited time to play, maybe a few hours a day occasionally. In EQ I always had to choose from a few classes that were very soloable (Necromancer, Druid, Bard, Shaman, Mage, etc). (IMO, one of the reasons these classes were better at soloing was cause the different tactics they could use to solo MOBs, sometimes yellow or red ones (kiting and its variations)) I'm thinking about getting EQ2 but some things I've been reading are making me concerned about how soloable the game really is. So, here are my questions: 1. How soloable is EQ2 compared to EQ ? 2. Do all classes have the same soloability ? Casters and Melee ? 3. i know SOE removed any kind of kiting, but is there other ways to kill a MOB or each class has to do the same thing in the same way over and over again ? Thank you in advance. |

Get a updated soundcard, and update your bios/chipset and the game should become playable. onboard anything USUALLY means subpar.
Agree, onboard Soundcards borrow "juice" from the CPU, just get a decent SB (not need to spent a lot here) and the performance should improve. |

Sony made sure PS2 was released before XBOX. Now SOW makes sure EQ2 is released before WoW. I see a pattern here. And many sleepless nights for SOE developers... |

Bad graphics and old graphics are different things. Atari in the 80s was pretty much the best you could get on home video game. I hope this thread is not an EQ2 vs WoW discussion disguised as a Graphics discussion. I don't consider myself shallow, I'm a "real" gamer (since the 80s) and heck Graphics are very important to me just because realism is very important to me. |

Sure but you know they go to your hips right ? I'll check these movies at home, machine too slow here at work. I'd still like to see actual gameplay (from the client) in order to feel how movement is done, how the textures move and work together, I know it will ony be possible when they are out. Movies give a nice idea though. Question, will there be any changes in the graphics of these games b4 release ? Texture, animation, models, etc ? Or what we see now is what we r going to get. |

Screen shots are nice and all but they don't show one of the most important aspect of video game realism IMO which is the quality of the animation. I'm not even talking about how the chars run or fight, even though its very important as well (horizons is really bad on that), I'm talking about how the textures match the movement, how well everything works together when things are actually moving, when everything is alive. |
