Pretty much this for me. I hate running around seeing names like Healzu or XXwOlverIneXX. That, plus the chat is usually more helpful and less dominated by Chuck Norris jokes, what have you.

Basically this. The few times I have played on a RP server is to avoid the 12 year old banter and attitude that generally fills 99% of the other servers/games. IE: WoW

This is for all Betas, not just open Beta, but does anyone else feel like their opinions/input do not matter?

I have been beta testing mmos for years now and I am starting to get the feeling that by the time games come into beta, the companies have already decided what needs to be in their game, and any opinions from the testers mean very little.

Other than the occasional quest bug or something....

For simplicity, lets say testers report/suggest 10 different things. 3 of those 10 are the obvious fixes; game breaking fixes.

It seems that the "most obvious" fixes were probably going to be fixed in the first place, it did not matter if every tester reported/suggested it.

The other 7 of 10 items are never implemented, looked at, or whatever.

With all the MMO's that have been coming out, and all the ideas that testers input, how can we be going backwards?

Example: FFXIV, etc.

Maybe I am just paranoid, but I am honestly starting to feel that beta testing does very little to improve a game because the companies have already decided its fate, long before gamer input.

Any thoughts?

This does not seem like a typical MMO I would be interested in, but for some reason, I am really looking forward to trying this game out. Some of my favorite games were strategy/tactical RPGs, like Shining Force I/II and FF Tactics. I hope it does well.

There you have it.  Balance wasn't the real issue, unless one means match-making balance, and I mean gross overly match-matking with 3 rank 2 players against 3 rank 7 players constantly.

The game was very enjoyable, had it not been for RTW blatant blin-eye to hacking, mostly.  Let's start there at the very least.

3 rank 2 vs 3 rank 7? That is the worst you had? I loved getting those odds.

It was when we had 3 rank 5s against 4 rank 30-40s that I started to say, "I'm done."

I have tried to get into EQ2, three times now.

The only thing that makes me unsub, everytime, is the lack of quest detail.

"Go kill x" is fine, but at least tell me where I am supposed to go.

Having to download eq2map mod to get anything done makes me want to uninstall.

No, I do not want hand holding, but I don't want to have to scour the world for hours trying to find whatever X I am supposed to kill. Not sure if they have fixed this problem, as I have not played EQ2 for quite some time.... which is sad because I loved my Mystic and my Swashbuckler.

Go play Vanguard. You can make the entire thing from scratch. You can captain the ship around from the wheel and even your friends can jump on board.

It's not easy to make either.

Took me a little over 6 hours of farming just the timber(wood) for the second smallest boat. I had a good area too; a line of trees that started respawning as I started harvesting the last tree. Zero competition.

That was just the farming of the wood. Lets not get started on how much ore it took.

Or turning the wood into planks, and the ore into fasteners, etc....

Oh... almost forgot all the cloth it took for the sails....

Yea... Vanguard has got it going on.

My ship was a Junk, with a dragon on the mast. Totally awesome for going out, deep into the ocean, and fishing, with friends and beer. Yes, beer.

A TV commercial would be great, because I believe everything I see on TV. EVERYTHING.

    Nah, thats not a bad thing. When the hot and sexy females looks like children it is. lol

1) Produce a healing class that I actually WANT to play. WTB a generic healer! Give me some hour long buffs for the love of god.

2) Casting pushback from damage needs to be fixed. No avoidance at all sucks horribly. Ever tried to get a 1.5s cast spell off when being beaten on by 4+ mobs? You never get the spell off and you die.

3) A more in-depth crafting system. Vanguard:Saga of Heroes was on the right track.

As for your thread, I think you have it correct, but whether or not the PVP will be any good is yet to be seen.

I think my biggest concern is the majority of players who will not play a game is because of the mentality of

"I do not know what I want, but I do not want this"

With all the MMO's out there and all the MMO's coming out, why are all of them "getting it wrong" ? Because they don't know what you want, since you, yourself, do not even know.

Thanks for posting a rather elusive response as to why you don't like a AAA MMO that offers what most other MMOs offer, with a little more, and a little less.

If Rift, or other MMOs for that matter, do not offer the kind of game you are looking for, I am starting to wonder if MMO's are really your kind of game or if you are just jaded so much that you actually do not even know what you really want. You state you don't like something, but do you even know what you do want?

In other news, I agree with the OP, I just hope the lower tiers stay active to reduce the Rifts, instead of coming back at lvl 50 to clear the lower zones for the few people who will be leveling, come 6-12 months from now.

Probably going to get some flack for this...
