Why is everyone coming down on this...this is EVE, it's a part of it.   What I don't understand is just how someone could be so naive when it is said repeatedly over an over again in local chat in Jita and all the other main trade hubs - don't fall for scams!  Anyone that actually thinks that someone is just going to double your ISK - because they say they will...don't play EVE - you're the reason things like this happen - you're gullible and lack good judgment.   The guy that fell for this scam I do not feel sorry for one bit.   It's like people that believe in God and hand over cash to churches - it's a scam.   If the God of a church is so powerful, what does a church or religion have need of money for - why doesn't your God just provide for it's needs - he is suppose to be all mighty and powerful - or are you not capable of good judgement to understand this - hmmmm?

Oh and don't try to tell me I'm just as bad as the scammers that did this because I don't feel sorry for this guy...that guy at one point actually knew he had been scammed and yet "he allowed" them to continue on.   All he had to do was stop.   So more than once this person showed bad judgement.   In fact he did it 4 times.   So no, I don't feel bad for this person.   And his language toward the end of the sound clip...that is inexcusable.

I cant believe some of the mental replies in this topic. Too many paranoid people.

And facebook acquiring Occulus won't hinder its application in video games, it just means that now its applications will be more widespread.

Yeah, probably as long as you use Facebook.

@ ,

See, it's not only that Facebook is basically a big machine that is used to gather and sell information - it is also a machine used for social engineering.    That is why facebook dictates to the masses what is good, what is bad.   They love to control.    They love to also market crap to you - all the time.    Did you know that there are websites that now require you to have a facebook sub in order to even make comments on them?   That means if you don't have a facebook account...well touch luck.   Google does this with Youtube and their stupid Google+ that nobody frikking wants.   Imagine what Facebook will now want?   I don't want Facebook in my gaming - at all!  Period...end of story.

I think this says what you can expect.

Umm..dude, Facebook sells your information to the US government...it was just in the news.   Also, it does make the OR guys sell outs.  It means they give up creative control on what OR will be used for primarily, and if Zuckerburg has his way it will also mean that owners of the Oculus Rift in the future will most likely require a facebook sub.   Don't believe me....Google bought Youtube...couple of years later, Youtube now requires you to have a Google+ account to even comment on Youtube!   No conspiracy stuff going on here...that is the reality of it.   OR selling out to Facebook means Facebook will be in control of it....and that means integration into Facebook whether you want it or not.

It's not spying, you signed an agreement?

What do you have to hide?

Honestly?

Edit:  No no, you're right, they should have fought the government tooth and nail until they threatened to shut down facebook, which then forced them to comply.

If you think google, or verizon, or apple, aren't also giving away your info freely to the government then you would be incorrect.

I don't use Facebook...and I really wish I didn't have to use Twitter.    As for Google...Google has almost become the Internet.   They are in everything.

lol whats the deal with facebook? are buying everything or what? they just bought whatsapp , now Occulus? D:

Facebook is slowly dying...that is the purpose of these key purchases, to save Zuckerburgs spying app.    These two key things will just reinforce his strangle hold on his information gathering tool.

Damn sell out company, first they play the friendly "we are different" indies on Kickstarter, then they sell out to this NSA spying platfform Crapbook.

Traitors. I am disgusted. Shame on you, Oculus.

They didn't sell out, they didn't betray anyone, please calm down and read the article, I think once you do that you will be a lot happier.

'NSA spying platform crapbook'?   What?

I'm at a complete loss as to how you could arrive at these conclusions.

Almost everyone I see posted here, completely forgot about Elder Scrolls Single Player base that will be playing this game.   Their 20 million single player base is the market of target here with the PVE.   It has already won over the PVE fans in MMO's.  The last group of players they are going after are PVP players in MMO's,  which are the hardest ones to please in any game.

I think almost everyone here has thought ONLY in numbers of MMO market.  Almost everyone here  has complelty ignored the console players, and their ES base fan single players.   The MMO market has 2-3 million for ESO to soak up.   The single players who are ES fans or bought skyrim amount to 2.8 million on the PC, and the Console ES fans or bought Skyrim total 17.2 million.   We also have to look at the fact of those skyrim fans we have 4.8 million who bought Oblivion as well.

When you take into account ALL sources of customers for this game you have to have ALL factors of the equation:

ENTIRE MARKET OF ESO:

2-3 million MMO playerse looking for a new game.

2.8 million PC ES fans who bought Skyrim.

17.2 million console ES fans who bought Skyrim.

The fact that 4.8 million Oblivion copies sold.

The fact that 4 million Marrowind copies sold.

X million of console MMO players (unknown since no MMORPG has came to them since Xbox and PS2)

X millions migrating to ESO from other gaems.

PLUS:

RETENTION RATE

How well the retention rate you think this company can sustain with its updates and content expansions.  Also considering its retention rate with its Single Player base as their first MMO ever.   MMO player retention +  ES fan player base retention.

PLUS:

ADVERTISMENT

Amount of global advertisement.  Will they run an advertisement campaign the size of WoW's with celebs, ect. world wide.

EQUALS:

10 million subs by the end of the year

/agree, I would like to see what other people come up with for totals after using this equation formula stated.  Lets see it!

Wait...what?  You responded to your own thread?   So how many accounts do you have with MMORPG.com?  Because it looks like you were thinking you were on a different account and responding to your own comment.    That is a bannable offense.   Wonder if the mods have seen this.

I can agree that a lot of players wont accept this title as of yet, but I got to be honest I never knew so many people would look those beta numbers and say less players would play then the amount of players in any game!

When was the last game you seen, where less people bought it then the number of players they had in beta?

Dude you need to get off the 5 million.

It was stated that 5 million beta accounts were created not 5 million beta tester played the game.

Comeback with concrete numbers on the amount that participated in beta then maybe your numbers might work.

how many people around here alone actually created more then one beta account, because I don't see 1 million people making 5 accounts around here.  Most beta testers are not die hards who want to get into Daily testing beta.

100k people might be sadistic enough to want to be a daily beta tester and create 5 accounts to get in, but I don't see any more then that, and even that number is generous compared to other game betas.

Over the years on these forums, people like you have made some pretty wild predictions, but nobody has ever made anything as wild as this...seriously, you've topped them all.   I recall people claiming Aion would crush WoW,  Warhammer was suppose to bring in upwards of 5 million.   LoTRO, was suppose to bring in a minimum of 4 million.   SWToR was suppose to bring in 6 million according to a couple of users.   GW2 was suppose to be a WoW killer.  Same with Rift.   Now you come along with this prediciton and claim 5 million just to get started and by the end of the year 10 milllion?  Seriously?

With the way this game is, and it having a sub fee...this game might sell 2 mil(I'll be surprised if it sells 3+ mil), but it's player retention will not even be anywhere near that.   They'll be lucky to maintain 500k subs after 6 months.   I'll give it maybe a year or a little after and it'll go free to play...and it'll be struggling to retain 350k players(if that!).   I've been playing these games for long enough time, and I am 99% correct on my predictions.   This, like many other themepark games with PvP as it's main driving force do not do well in NA markets.   SWToR, GW2, Aion and Warhammer tried to use PvP as a huge selling point - they all failed to do very well and nowhere near what people like you predicted.

If anything, all you are doing is creating a negative effect and this will hurt the game more than help it...seen it, been there.

I would have agreed with you in 2007.  But its not 2007 anymore,  up up until now, when a game that's worthy of single player gamers topped with the fact that we are living in a world that as become more global then ever,  we have seen schools across the nations teaching computer classes to students who are now turning 17-25.  We are starting to see the baby boomers of computers and of course adults now own consoles more then they have ever in the 80-90s.  We are seeing adult hobbies go from cars and other things to gaming.  We have such a wide and bigger diverse market now then ever before, and its going to get bigger as more and more students age.  Its almost mandatory that a kid learns computer skills now.

So while I think your statement is correct, its correct only for 2007.   You will see my statement be more on line with the rise of instrest in MMO's and other gaming other then single player games.   You can hold me to that.

I won't hold you to it.  You're just deluding yourself.  You're hyped over a game.  Seen it before.

99% correct huh?  Noob.  If you were a pro, you'd always be right.  So, since you're track record is less than perfect, there is no reason for anyone to give your opinions any weight now is there?

Seriously though, that claim is just as far out in left field as the OPs.

My prediction is actually based on knowledge, gained from over 18 years of being a part of the MMORPG community.   Yeah, I was playing these games like this when the Internet was made up of BBS's and we used dial-up to connect to servers.   I'm not pulling s@#t out of my arse - you can go right on and have your belief that this game will garner a bazillion players - but that is not reality.   This is a themepark game with PvP.  Just like all post WoW games, this to shall just be a weak imitation and Zenimax will be lucky if they have 350k players by this time next year.

Nielson ratings put them up there, and others have made charts with their yearly earnings on tax files.   That's pretty solid if you ask me, they even bragged about the neilson ratings themselves.

I agree Nielson counts as a measurement

but its difficult to compare with other mmos that are giving concrete sub #s

I don't think it has to compare to anything else, it just shows that at one time, that game was at the top for its day of release.  eventually technology gets better and so more new games came out and people were dying to see a new game like ESO come out, but what they got was GW2 and SWTOR.  So the MMO market right now needs a game like ESO, this will have the same impact on MMO's as the past when they were first released.  It will do something else, that hasent been done since wow also though. It will bring in new MMO players to the MMO world.  something people back in the day thought was impossible until they seen WoW's advertisement campaign worldwide.  ESO is very appealing to a skyrim and single player type of player and will do the same thing to the single player industry, which is massive, as WoW did for the MMO industry.  That's the viewpoint here.

Says who...you?  I seriously doubt this very much.

Yeah, random people making random statisitc based on numbers pulled off their asses.

So here is my statistic:

I'm a die hard Elder Scrolls player, and won't be touching ESO with a ten meter pole. So in my own vast experience, 0% of the people who play Elder Scroll SP games will play ESO.

Then where do you think all these 5 million beta accounts are coming from?    Other MMO games?   I don't think even half of those players are MMO gamers, and think most of them are ES fans, why do you think after one year, the game is looking more and more like Skyrim,  why do you think they forced ESO to put in all the features  of skyrim like first person view ect.

I know lots of people that signed up multiple times for beta...I did, 5 times!  Got 3 invites.   To friends that didn't get into beta, I gave them my extra keys.   It is not uncommon for people that are into MMO's to sign up multiple times for a beta invite.  It increases their chances of getting in.

Wow...this is a big stink for some players.   Over on other gaming boards people are saying they are canceling their pre-orders over this.   Personally I not not understand this need for extra info.  Just play the game with what it has.   Like when I play Skyrim, I have zero UI up.   There is no map indicator, no aiming reticle, nothing...just a screen of Skyrim in all it's glory.

That's not what they are selling, they are selling a DAoC cloaked in Elder Scrolls graphics.   They don't care about the game, just the money it will make them - and they figure because it has a Elder Scrolls name tacked onto it that it help sell it.   The game is bland, generic and boring.  Not even going to discuss the flat graphics, or the painted on armor, or the bad animations, that look worse than games pre-2005.    It is so bad, that I cannot even find anything good worth writing about for my blog and because of that I just won't write anything.    It truly is that bad.

This is my opinion.   I know some people will scoff and even bemoan that someone can have an opinion like this, but it is what it is.

Nope - will not play.

Still A #1  -  I win!
Yep, skipping, not interested in either.
I'm still winning.   :)
