Hey Markoraos!

Thank you for the reply and the information about those servers.  I've contacted the analytical site's web master about when his next update will be (seems he updates once every week or two).  The date I'm going off of is November 20th update.  Now I use Tier 4 numbers, so they should be insulated for right now against most alts.  Another month or so and we'll have to start using level 40 as the benchmark.  Either way, looking at the data on your own should still tell you what servers not to roll on.

Looking at the data pre merge for your server, I would never recommend anyone roll a character there.  Lets hope the post merge numbers tell a better story!

Hey Raztor!

I agree people play the class they find fun and most enjoyable to play.  I find the mirror classes are close enough that if you've played a Black Orc you'll be very comfortable jumping into a Swordmaster.  They are different, but the mechanic has the same principle behind it and thus the play style is similar.  The same can be said behind all the classes.

I'm not saying there are no differences in play style, just that the basic mechanic is the same.  The biggest difference IMO is the looks; and to some people that's the deciding factor.

I will update the original post making your recommendation as I share the same view.  But if you don't care that much about looks, I contend that Order gives the better RvR experience on server with 11 or 12 vs 10 population.  On servers with 10 v 10 population it doesn't matter which side you choose.

meh, when you have active open rvr by tier 2, its fun for me.  But, if you already established on a server you like, no point in switching.  This is more for people who either don't have a server yet, or don't like their current server.

I'm there and loving it as well.  Wasteland and by transfer Vortex had ok pops. . .

But I have been in 3 failed keep captures and 3 successful keep captures in the past 2 days, TIER TWO!

Just a lot of fun playing the game as it was meant to play. oRVR with lots of people.

They must have made a mistake.  Good find OP while it lasted.  The 60 day card is back to 28 bucks. The game is still 10 buck though.

To those who "wasted" their money on the game when it came out.  Let this be a lesson to you, you pay to be on the cutting edge, like it or not.

EVERY game comes out at a premium price.  A couple months later it starts to drop.  Subscription based games get this even faster.  World of Warcraft was 50 bucks when it first came out.  You Can now get it for 10 bucks.  Does that mean that WoW is hitting hard times? No, its just a fact of life.

Shooters, same thing.  They come out at $50, then drop down to like $20.

If you are not sure about a game, WAIT before you buy it.  The price will come down and you can try it.  Shoot, if you waited for 2 months to try WAR you could have tried it for 11 bucks!

If you decide to play, check out my post here (http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213606) on what servers would make a good new home.

The game is very multi-player dependant.  If you arn't playing with or against other people, you won't have fun.  A lot of complaints on this forums come from just that; people who were unable to find other people to enjoy the game with.

I am having a lot of fun, so is my girlfriend.  It has similar starting PvE to WoW, so that will be familiar.  The quest system also works almost the same, although WAR gives you general locations for the objectives as well.

The Scenarios are just like the BGs, only you can join them from almost anywhere in the game, and return to where you joined them from after they are done.

Those two systems (Scenario and PVE) are more enjoyable for me than WOW was (minus raids).  The open RVR is still being worked out, but the lead developer has laid out some things I think will work really well.

All in all, I would recommend the game, on a populated server, as is.

Make a character on one of the following servers:
Skull Throne, Badlands, Red Eye Mountain, Karak - Azgal, Darklands

Skull Throne - Core US - 10 vs 10
Badlands - Core US - 11 vs 10
Red Eye Mountain - Core US 12 vs 10
Karak Azgal - EU - 11 vs 10
Darklands - Core Oceanic - 11 vs 10

EDIT - Raztor: " I would recommend people to play the class they find fun and enjoy playing . . . "
I also recommend the same thing.  It is important to take population balance into consideration when choosing a side though.  As an Order player, you don't want to be vastly outnumbered, but you can be happy and even benefit from being a little outnumbered.  So choose a server that has 10v10, 11v10, or 12v10 is just fine.
As a destruction, it is more important to choose a server with 10v10 balance or at least 11v10 balance so that you have enough targets, oRVR is competitive, and scenarios pop with an enjoyable frequency.

I recommend playing Order.  If you decide Destruction, you should choose one of the 10 v 10 servers.

The reasons why and some data follows:

Why should I play Order?
Order is almost without exception less played at all levels and on all servers than Destruction.  On average, there are 13 Destruction characters for every 10 Order players. On some servers it is much worse, on others it is a little better.
By playing the less played realm, you promote balance between the two sides (a perfect world would have 10 Order players for every 10 Destruction players).  This allows equal teams when it comes to open RVR (oRVR).
What's in it for you? As an Order character you will be able to join Scenarios faster than Destruction characters. However, when it comes to oRVR you will be at a disadvantage number wise.  On the servers I recommended, it is very small, even negligible. But on some servers, it could be as bad as 10 Order vs 30 Destruction (Galrauch)!
As a plus, when balance changes come out you can expect, pound for pound, 1v1, to be slightly better than your Destruction counterparts.

What about Destruction?
A lot of people like to play Destruction.  The classes look better in my opinion.  If you are set on Destruction it is important to expect longer times to join a Scenario (more people make Destruction Alts than Order Alts).  You will have a few extra team mates when it comes to oRVR though.
Keep in mind, Mythic has said that when it comes to class balance, they will balance the realms first, then the characters, and then adjust PvE to match the character's strength. If Destruction outnumbers Order during balance changes, there is a chance that 1v1, pound for pound, an Order character will outmatch you to make up for those 10 vs 13 fights.

Why did you choose these servers?
I ran with a number of criteria through a site called Warhammer Online: Age of Analytics. The following is a quote from that site's FAQ to explain where the numbers come from:

Where does the data come from?
Data is pulled from Mythic's Warhammer RealmWar pages (http://realmwar.warhammeronline.com) as well as WarDB (http://www.wardb.com). The site cross-references each guild to ensure it is using the most up to date information as possible. Mythic's RealmWar site still does not show data for many servers and guilds, and until they fix it there will still be inconsistencies.
What characters are counted?
These statistics are drawn only from GUILDED players. From my observation, there is <5% error for tier 3 and tier 4 data, but lower tiers, especially tier 1 are more inaccurate due to the large number of unguilded characters.

So with the above in mind, I judge a server's population by the number of characters it has in T4.  This should represent most people's main character; and since at this level most people are guilded, should be accuarate.  Sure, some may have 2 or more characters at this level, or none, but for the most part this represents the normal player base.

Next critera has to do with server balance.  Since the average server has 13 Destruction per 10 Order, I decided the best servers needed to do better than this.  Again, looking at the above servers, ALL of them meet this requirment ranging from 10 v 10 and 12 v 10, and thus all of them would make good choices for Order characters.
For Destruction players, you want that ratio much closer to 10 v 10, and on two of those servers that is what you get! Skull Throne and Erengrad both have only 6 more Destruction characters in T4 than Order characters!

Why did you decide higher population was better than medium or low?
In PVE games of the past, medium or low population servers were my first choice to prevent overcrowding content.  In Warhammer, the way the quests work (on most, every wolf has a paw) and the fast respawn of mosters; this is much less of an issue.
When it comes to RvR, more is better.  You want lots of people to play with.  Scenarios pop up faster, more people to get oRvR warbands going.  Life is just better on a high population server.  And since they raised the server caps, you should never run into a waiting period to log on!

What other thoughts do you have?
I played on a low pop server that transfered to a medium pop server (both are not on my recommended server list) as Destruction.  I also played on a medium pop server (also no on list) as Order.  After rolling Order and Destruction on my recommended servers, the difference is night and day.  The populations and activity remind me of the first week of play.
I recomend anyone getting frustrated with thier server to give these servers a try.

In Warhammer, I see some problems, mostly population.  There are to many servers.  I also wish they put more in for oRVR.  One of these you have control over, roll on a high pop server.  The other, they say are in the works, and I hope they are.  I am enjoying this game.

Server pops will either hold steady or slowly decline until they come out with patch 1.1. After that, they should hold constant and maybe increase as those who left come back and give it a try.  Hopefully they put out a trial at that time also to get more people on board.

How can I help?
WOW! You read this far?  Thank you!  I put the important stuff at the top for those looking for a quick answer.  At the end is where I ask you for help.  If you could just reply with some information about your server.  How active is it? What side do you play? What tier are you in? How are the guilds? oRVR? Using the census addon, how many people are on at peek? Off? And any other information you have!  Once I get a few vouchers, I will add that to this post so people can see both hard data and personal observation.  Feel free to include your guild in the post!

Edit:
12/20/08 Formating updates to prepare for content update
11/29/08 Changed intro to reflect types of servers.
12/01/08 Added comments about class choices, added section about vouchers, edited some font.

This is good to hear. I quit the game a month ago, waiting to read things like this. What exactly did they do to make ORVR happen. Was it just a quest or was it other things as well. I personally hope they release no scenario servers, but i ll take anything that could be as good as DAOC days. Heres to hoping. I ll read a little more and keep an eye on it s progress before i re sub, but i hope it happens.

Yeah, just like football, stupid people.  And soccer, and rugby, and . . .

Crap, come to think about it every sport is like that.  We're DOOMED as a species!!!

OP;

My GF and I are really enjoying WAR.  We were on a low pop server and transferred with our guild to a medium server.  My server is Vortex.  Non prime time there are about 300 destruction people on.  Prime time is just under 1000 destruction.  The number of destruction players to order players is as follows:

T1 = 1.4, T2 = 1.4, T3 = 1.3, T4 = 1.1

Scenarios take about 5-10 minutes to pop.  I typically get between 1 and 2 groups together for any chapter PQ during prime time.  Open RVR happens about once or twice a night.  I'm a bit proactive in my approach though.  I make an Open RVR group, I make PQ and Scenario groups.  If nothing is happening in a tier, I fly to another tier for a bit.

I enjoy WAR more than I have any other game when it comes to PvP.  Its PVE is decent, but not like EQ2.  They have made good changes so far.  They are working well on the game.

People don't get off the game and run to the forums to post positively about the game.  They go to forums to gripe or get help.  There are people who enjoy playing the game.

If you are on the fence, just stay there.  Eventually they will release a preview version or something along those lines.  The game will just keep getting better while you wait.

Yep soe keep pushing out all these peice of crap expansions to eq2, because the game was a total failure at launch and for 2+ years, only now after 100 usless expansions and millions of dollars is it even an average game.  Its funny how people keep thinking because soe push out these piece of crap exansions  just to keep up, that they are somehow good and that the speed which they come out means they are good. Jesus 4 of the 4 expansions were made just to counter wow, as they were expcting eq2 to continue the sucess of eq.

Wow, your problem is simple.  In your head, SOE = crap.  Sure, they made a lot of mistakes as a big company; but that does not make their individual efforts crap.  EA is the same monster.  A lot of people do an EA = Horrible Game and its not true.  Sure, if you had to judge a game without playing it based solely off the parent developer, then yeah, more times than not you would be right.  But you don't!

EQ2 has always been a good game; ever since beta.  It had its ups and downs, but dude, to say it was a total failure is crap.  It makes money, it has a stable player base.  I have had a lot of fun with EQ2, most recently for RoK.  As a group oriented PvE game, it is tough to beat.  Only LotRO comes to mind.

I would love to see them redo the graphics engine.  If they did that, I would probably return and try it out.  Until then, I'm content in WAR.  Either way, the expansion looks great, and I hope they keep moving EQ2 in the right direction.

When I installed the game on my GF's comp, I copied the entire game directory to an external drive.  We then installed the game with the DVD onto her comp (to get the registry stuff, I'm sure there is an easier way to copy the registry information).  We then just copied the game over the installed files and did not have to patch.

If this is a new computer, I would recommend deleting the user folder.  If doing a fresh install, I would recommend deleting the cache folder.  Combined they are 11mb to re-download.

Best of luck!

You notice patterns and then discard the results that don't fit the pattern you noticed.  My GF and I play SHs together.  We only play those 2 chars together and they usually ding within a min of each other.

Any who, we laugh every time that I get a loot roll because I seem to have better luck than she does.  We normally have to sell at the same time because . . . we normally get the same amount of loot, go figure.

While I agree that the contribution system needs to be looked at (the thing that gives you +50 - +500 to your roll), I disagree on the RNG being FUBAR.

Now you do know that if you loose (don't get a bag at all), the next time you do the PQ you get +100 to your roll on top of your contribution bonus, right?

buy a game card next time . . .

http://war.curse.com/downloads/war-addons/details/warcensus.aspx

You would have to run it on your server at times you like to play to figure it out for yourself.  I will tell you that SH and Magus for Destro prob yields lowest numbers.

Any clues why? My friend is able to, but I am not. EAX is on in my Creative Audio Console. Can't figure this out. Is this a Vista issue?

You're joking right?  Do a google search "Warhammer Online EAX" and I crap you not, the first 2 links are on the MMORPG forums where several posters (including myself) both explain the why and the how for this problem.

I enjoy the crafting system, and while I hate BW's, I can still kill them and survive.  You see a hex on you, just run away, let them target someone else, then come back fo the kill.

They just need to put in a mentor system like EQ2 but with better scailing.

In open RVR rather than make people chickens, just give them a bolster like skill that prevents them from using abilities above a level, and drops thier stats, health and power.

Renown rank doesn't need to be so close to level.  Not sure if it changes later, but most of the gear you get for renown needs your level to be almost 75% higher.

As to the toggle, with them taking steps to adjust the population, I doubt we would see this anytime soon.  I would prefer to see them put in a mentor system like EQ2 (with better scaling).  But a /xp toggle would be an easier/faster/poorer way for them to accomplish this.

it's only a nice improvement if the current after market map programs will work with it. I sure hope they give them advanced notice so they can have updates ready to go for teh expansion. What they are advertising here isn't nearly as good as what we already have if you incluse the EQ2maps program.

Did you really just say that the DEVS should not make an improvement to the default UI because it may break an aftermarket mod?
The search features and beutiful new maps will be a welcome addtion to the game.  Besides:

This expansion brings a huge change to the in game map system. Thanks to gm9 and jnils for their extremely hard work (and a little help from Landiin), EQ2MAP will continue to work with the new map system. There is still some loose ends to tie up but they hope to have it mostly done by launch day Nov 18th.

Confused. if a heler wants to reroll a dps class.. or play someones dps class?

Or did you mean if they want to DPS and not heal.

They aren't a DPS class so they can't play a DPS class as a healer class.

They can play a healer class and chose to do nothing but dps.

They would fail at both.

A healer can choose to take on all INT gear and spec their damage mastery line and thus be a hybrid dps/healer (like a DoK or WP but ranged).  If that is their play style then that is their choice.

Now they are not going to be like a BW or SORC but they may hit SH or SW level of damage dealt, and have heals as a secondary function.

It doesn't matter if you think this in ineffective.  It is their choice to play their class the way they want to.

Would I want to group with such a healer, not unless there was a dedicated healer, but they may be nice as a secondary healer.  Would I be agitated to have one in our scenario, probably, unless we won.
