There you go people. WOW has grown up with its user-base.. its become more of a casual mmo for people who used to play hardcore that just don't have the time anymore, you know grown-ups with actual commitments..

One of the most specious arguments on these forums, people have grown up and don't have time to play anymore.

I started MMORPG's when I was 44, had a wife, 3 children, worked 10 hours a day, coached youth soccer and was a cub scout leader...and yet I found a way to play Lineage 1, DAOC, Shadowbane Lineage 2 and WOW at launch including raiding through AQ40.

Now, could I do everything each game had to offer? No, of course not, 6-12 hour raids/boss camps were out, (WOW's only took about 4 hours, and I managed to fit them in at the cost of losing some sleep)

So when people complain today about not having time I can only roll my eyes, they are no busier today than I was back then, and in fact, even today, working 12 hour days including many weekends restricts me from doing things like large fleet engagements in EVE, which I actually enjoy, but I don't let that hold me back, I do what I can, and not bemoan what I can't.

Last night I'm on TS with 2 guys who have 3 small children each, can hear the family in the background every time they key their mic's, yet they are playing EVE with us, running multiple accounts.

You can make the time, and the argument that you can't is entirely a figment of your imagination, you chose not to by wasting it on things such as sleep.

But its true, you can't do everything like perhaps you used to when you had more free time, you learn to adapt to the game, not expect the game to adapt to you.

Or...play different games of course.

The 6-12 hour raiding days are behind us friend. It was fun to get 40 dedicated people together and raid but now with full time jobs, kids and a life it is hard to sit down more than a few hours at a time. Some of my friends are still hardcore on FF14 but I am more of a casual now jumping between games trying to find some fun. Right now i am enjoying ark survival. It is a crafter's heaven...

Another fact is marketing + box cost + retailer cost.

Back in the day Blizzard advertised the game on all media, sent the boxed game to gamestop, target etc and then sold for $50.

(numbers are estimated)

around $10-14 goes to retailer and transportation costs

another $5-8 for marketing

and finally around $15 for development and box cost, which leaves a net profit of $15-20 per box sold.

Lets take the new gw2 expansion:

-marketing costs : very low maybe $1-2 per box

- no shipping or retail costs on digital box sales.

-only net cost is development costs, which is not that high since it is just 1 new class + few new zones added.

Basicly Arena can sell the product at a very low cost but they are trying to push for maximum profits thinking lost %20-30 of customers are going to be offset by increased %50 profit.

Me and most of my friends are not buying the expansion, not that we do not have $50, but they would rather pay $15 a month to FFivX plus buy and try a few new indie games. ( we all bought ark survival few days ago, well its really not an indie company since the developer is the evil EA)

If you like the game, want to support the dev and want to see the new content first and 50$ is a no brainer for you - bend over and take it like the unappreciated consumer you are.

If the price seem too high, wait until christmas, I bet there would be a sale then. No need to cry about it and trying to make a thing out of the fact that you are having to pay twice for the base game instead of paying for the expansion like is normally done.

I rewrote that for you and filled in the lines to make sense of what you are actually trying to say. In all honest I don't understand where consumers like you come from. Could you explain to us more about your gaming habits, income and what you do in your spare time? I would really like to understand consumers like you.....cause I don't.

I work as a PR consultant, my boyfriend is a programmer. We are gaming on most of our free time. We've both clocked over 2000 hours in Guild Wars 2 and various other titles. 50$ is not an issue to our household in the slightest.

We also don't live in a basement as other gamer brethren, trying to tell me how fucked up we are for paying 50$.

You know, there are restaurants where dinner for 2 costs more than that.

What you have to understand is that some are willing to pay a lot more than others for entertainment. That is why you have a multi million dollar cars. That's not their real value.

Besides we can talk all week but the fact remain is that value is in the eye of the beholder. With the vet perks 50$ is worth it in my eyes. If it is too much for you, move along, plenty of games in the world.

Or you know ... get a better job.

Zero people in this thread have argued that they can't afford the expansion. What they are saying is that it does not contain $50 worth of content. So instead of lording how much money you have over other people and telling them to get jobs, how about actually reading their posts first.

To prove my point, I have masters degree and a full time job at one of the highest ranked hospitals in the country. I share my costs with my gf who I live with. I had a family member pass away recently who was extremely wealthy. I have more money atm than i know what to do with. I love GW2. Guess how many copies of the expansion I'm buying? Zero. Why? Because it's literally a joke how little content it contains.

Guess what I did do? Buy FFXIV + Expansion and a 6 month sub. Wait! You might say. That's more than GW2 + Expansion 2x over. True story. However, I actually think I'm getting my money's worth in comparison to the offerings from ANet.

TLDR - we've all got the money. The question is: what's the value of the expansion to you? For me it's not $50 that's for sure.

I completely agree, it is not the cost but is it worth it. I know some people here are broke college students or people on low income and $50 is a lot of money for them. (then maybe you should stop playing games and work overtime?) I just bought a few games on steam and gave away to my friends - way more than $50. Am I buying gw2? nope... pretty much any f2p game has more content than the expansion right now...

Then again I am still pissed as a former ranger that after 3 years still they did not fix pet pathing AI. I will go back to Gw2 when they fix that  :)

price is too steep for a mobile game, so many f2p titles out there why pay money to test a game?

Companies keep milking the customer base for unfinished products. Not paying for a game that is not ready for release yet, already did that mistake...

This had potential and I had high hopes... clans, houses, planet invasions, research for lost technology...

and what do we get?

A cheap arena shooter with a few maps.

I will be honest : The combat part is actually good but thats really it... nothing else to do. It is a world of tanks lobby game with fewer tank types and fewer maps with a worse matchmaking system...

EDIT: there is a turn based battletech game (fan made) that you can actually capture planets, build research and industrial complexes, build mech factories and all planets bases can switch hands where you can keep the mechs fro yourself or sell them to the market etc, a much more deeper game (but unfortunately with very basic graphics and sound)

my eyes.... my eyes....

Zerg , Spam AOE, win...

Thank you for the honest review. Lately many online sites and game reviewers are giving 10/10, five stars etc for many mindless asian grindfests for financial gain. Good to see some real reviews out there

Only 2 posts...  check

both posts saying for great this game is....check

Commercial / marketing for a greedy company that destroyed the community and the game....check

plz do not waste time or money with this game readers...this really is a terrible game run by a terrible greedy cash grabbing company

EDIT: the 7.5 rating is because of multiple users created on MMOPRG to give 10 ratings, real rating is around 5

I am extremely happy with the changes. Green and yellow commander tags would be awesome.

Also the siege golem extra skill  is a welcome change.

Now to the point...Am I going to reinstall the game after 16 months? Nope...still not worth it

But then again different color commander tag, brilliant idea!

The problem is the world is so empty and useless. No point ever going outside a city when you are 50. The few dailies are pointless, crafting is  useless. At 50 the game turns into log in, do your weekly raid, logoff, if you finished your raid already and also already leveled up a few alts to 50 you dont login for the rest of the week anymore.

They started faction reputation grinds like WOW in 2.1, but nothing there except another fancy looking mount.

Pros:

One of the best games out there for raiders with very few bugs.

Great storyline that gets you to max level.

Great animations and (Some) voices with story.

Animations are good and not overdone like some korean MMO's.

Good crafting concept

Cons:

After you finish the story leveling a second char is SUPER boring, just go grind Fate's.

World is very theme park, no reason to go out of the main city ever. Just Queue for a raid/dungeon.

End game is weekly raid A, weekly raid B, finish a couple hard mode dungeons, thats it.

I am sick of doing the same thing 47. time, end game gets old very fast. No feeling of a real world

All characters at max level are EXACTLY same, same armor set, same talents, ( you cannot pick talents, all same for all classes)

Crafting system is very good but no point in crafting...go grind dungeon few times buy any item you want. Do some raids and buy much better items than you can ever craft.

CAP- You got a cap on how many dungeon tokens you can win each week so you cannot collect all set in 1-2 weeks and keep paying a sub so you can wait 5-6 more weeks to collect all set pieces (if not raiding). I was off last week from work and cant do more than 7-8 dungeons for mythology tokens, need to wait 1 week for reset...

FINAL VERDICT:

Fun game to kill 1-2 months while waiting for the next thing. Great storyline to follow, but once it is done the game gets old. The new added dungeons/raids wont help with the useless theme park world. Couldnt get warmed up to my character because i look exactly the same in the same exact armor every other person wears, not to mention same exact skills/talents.. I will not sub when sub ends, moving on to the next one.

Very original concept,  a cleric! They can use staves? They heal?

I smell another themepark game, give us some different concepts, some more freedom. We already have 23536 games clerics heal, warriors have heavy armor and carry 2 handed swords, rogues stabby stabby people and cool ninja costumes...

dungeon queues and group finder works with other servers, I always end up grouping people from Japan or Eu servers in late hours :)

Crafting is very bad (for me), end game crafting is totally useless, it is a good way to make some money for some people

I leveled alchemy to 48 and stopped, didnt even bother with the last 2 levels. Don't get me wrong, I like the crafting cross skill interactions, how you make high quality items and how strategicly you must implement each step is amazing, but the end product is totally useless which kills the whole purpose...

(well other than cooking I guess, people still use food before raiding etc)

I played 1-50 last month and it was almost bug free. Pretty solid storyline that I really enjoyed. End game content is limited to doing 1 weekly raid  and daily dungeon grind but they are almost bug free too. This is one of the few games where I didnt fall into the ground and die or got stuck into a small rock as I was jumping. QC team did a great job I think.

I suggest you buy it and try it for 1 month, you will enjoy the storyline, if you do not like the rest you can stop playing till they end some good end game content

I would suggest civilization series, you can play both single and multiplayer.

There are also some online browser games like jagged alliance online, I didnt like it so much but maybe you might :)

Heroes of might and magic 4-5-6 are great, I didnt like the new card game version.

Also everyone says hearthstone is great, I have yet to try it.

Did you also try the new broken sword that just released?

Tried this game, couldnt even get to max level, it was just that bad...

I even got my friend to level with me, he got bored and quit before I did. I cant see how this game is getting all the hype.

Storyline is great, if u can find the game on sale buy and try it. In 1 month I maxed up and geared 1 char, was working on 2.nd class then got sick of the grind and the same old dungons dailies every single day. Community turns bad at lvl 50, people want to grind dungeons as fast as possible, nothing to do but do the raid, go do your dungeon, finish dailies log out.

Subscription running out this week, will not renew....

This game is a record holder for me... Record for the worst MMO released in years. I spend longer time playing asian grinders than this steaming pile becasue believe it or not they were more finished and had better character modells/development.  Yay for spamming the same 3-4 skills over and over again

So to answer a few questions....

Am I upset the new people dont have to work hard and buy these tomes?

Well, +5 tomes are still pretty rare to come by, they drop from raid bosses and after all my time spent playing I got only 1 on 2 of my chars, for a total of 2. Now imagine WOW selling the latest raid loot on cash shop, would that upset people? Selling +2 +3 to be competitive is one thing and selling one of the rarest  raid loots is another thing..

It is the business model they are following in the last 5-6 months I am complaining. It somehow smells like "lets sell all that we can before the ship sinks". It is a small but dedicated community in DDO, not millions or even hundreds of thousands like in other MMO's. I would say a player base of 50000 people at most. (Millions if you count the created accounts that played for 1 week and left the game). They started taking advantage of this little close knit community that are paying to keep the game alive (like the latest thing they did to TRUE RESURRECTION)...need to TR? buy from the store..

they doubled/tripled the time to grind to buy a TR stone...
