you could argue that fantasy is fantasy and that warcraft didn't rip off warhammer but you can't tell me that the zerg are not a blatant ripoff of the tyranids

the fact that there almost using the same name and there using fantasy and scifi is more than enough proof of this crap.

These concepts are borrowed from H.R.Giger of ALIEN movie fame and maybe abit of The THING thrown in, not to forget the GUYVER monsters and villans, the bio weapons or guns are from GW and there not the only ones who use this concept, you might be right, but more than likely they came up with there own.

Hi, thank you all for your answers, the servers are back up and running now, thanks again.

Poor Carufin, you truly are cursed, because where ever you are or where ever you go, there will always be a scumbag A**hole their.

Hi, Quick question is the server/s still down?

i still dont get it... why focus on nibbles when u can make so many better things.. i didnet wanna play this game b4 nibbles.. but now... i deffo dont wanna play lol. this game sounds like a joke to me

Again...what the heck is a nibble?

It's a small creature that crawls over people, nibbling constantly on sensitive parts. It's called nibbles because of that unusual feeding habit. See, it#s almost an endangered species, hence not many people know this....or not? ^_^

Oh man, I thought you guys were talking about that cute black three eye'd creature called,"Nibbler" from the tv show futrurama, I thought it would be a bit wierd that it should be in age of conan mmorpg.

Oh man. I just got call a noob from someone with a 'Jesus Inside' avatar. Am I going to hell now?

No but you will have to grind another 20 levels and follow some lame quests.

and yes hell is

First wow moment, the troll in water works, funniest wow moment and comment," What was that about rust monsters and warforged?"  while stepping into a new room.

My first major charcter is Amdaus the warforged cleric/fighter, he ran in the Anzac and Dungeonslayers guilds, both are great guilds.

Big tip for better game play in  DDO, make sure you have a working microphone, voice chat in this game is very easy to setup and really brings the players together and don't be shy to group, some pepole just want to voice chat instead of typing, also make sure even if you don't have a mic, to active the sound setup so you can hear the rest of the group, makes it a lot easier to coordinate a group or party in a dungeon and to hear coments like," don't step there it's a trap! " or even," Oh look it's a rust monster! "

this is a great game, it's a very in your face style action game, not like wow or the others which are point and click and go make a cup of tea or coffee while your char fights for you, be warned thou at higher levels it becomes a group or die a lot game.

so good luck in Stormreach and may the Lord of blades watch over you.

thanks for the reply, please keep us infromed of your progress as yours seems tobe the only true mech game around, that has some really cool looking mechs as well, looking forward to it's release.

Hi just wondering if this game is still in progress or up and running already with pepole playing?

Don't forget City of Villans!

Yes I know there the same, still...

Passed on min, but failed on recommened, cpu and cpu speed, also the OS, (who would hav guessed, I thought XP would last for ever.)

Hi all and thank you, your response has been fantastic and very thoughtful, I’ve sent invites out to pretty much everyone who posted more than three lines in a post, the invites are to a private forum on Xfire.com to take advantage of the voice chat, so as to have a discussion on what the concept of a Mass Multiplayer Online Community Role-play Game Universe and what it constitutes, the possible out come of this Discussion is hopefully a Design document or Mission statement and at least a better understanding of what a MMOCRPGU is compared to a standard MMORPG.

To those who were chosen to precipitate in a discussion about clarifying the concept of a MMOCRPGU. You were chosen because you showed Good sense of knowledge on the subject and a vested interest in time and even emotion on the topic, please understand this is not an invite to pull you away from your own projects, nor does this mean that you are comitting yourself in anyway, I have invited other pepole who like yourselves are involed with the own projects as well. It's a good chance to meet and get new information and ideas and put some forward, thank's again.

is your sub per day , week or month and how much?

11 Years ago I played muds (txt based prequels to the current crop of mmo's) I decided one after being unhappy with the imms/admins of the mud decided I could do better.

I went to college and university, studied and got my Bsc in computer science, i'd played games and tinkered with cheat programs and hacks for single player games, so I had okay skills, and a mensa IQ test I took at the urging of my mother gave me a nice little  piece of paper saying 154 iq and 98% problem solving ability.

So I thought I can do better, I can do the game i've always wanted to play..

There is a reason im almost completely gray haired at 37 and its not genetic

I self taught myself C (silly ass uni had taught us all pascal lol) created the basics of EoMv1.

Using a base rom code.

4000 lines of code later it was doing okay. year of play afew players.

EoMv2

C eos code upto around 10,000 lines of code.

EoMv3 4 years later  I was trashed by someone who I hadto ban from the game for sexual harassment

Eomv4 internal 2 years later

Eomv5 Current version Switched to a java/mysql hybrid and I can finally after 10 years say its the game I wanted to play and still do.

Extensive rp xp system, crafting, housing, npc's that are as intelligent if not more so than some players *grins*, Its always amusing the first time a player gets arrested by a guard, handcuffed and marched through the city to the city to the chief of justice who can actually jail them, execute them publicly or give warnings (depending on a set of laws that is distinct to every region and city)..

Its not quite an mmo only about 10-30 people play at once and a player base of 200+ from across the world but its home.

(I've thought about going visual licencing a 3d engine etc but no graphics can compare with imagination its like the difference of reading a book imagining your hero then seeing the film, its never quite right, plus you haveto upgrade a graphical engine almost every year)

But and this is the best advice I can give you

1)Don't admin or create a game with friends, friendships can go south the first time you tell someone they are slacking. And if you run a game which your friends play, how many of them will understand when you haveto ban them for cheating because favouritism will sound the death knell of your game.

2)Create a realistic goal and keep to it, i've seen so many well intentioned plans go south because it was just for fun, you need people even if not paying for there skills will actually work for you and work together.

3)Forget ever being just a player again:

When you create your own game you loose some inner child some niave player inside you, the first time your players complain at you, you see yourself a year ago complaining to a developer, when you play other games, you will nolonger see them as games, you will see code, bugs, you will be far harder to please.

I can't myself enjoy and play any other mud out there because simply I see my own place. its part of why I won't make a graphical mmo I play those to have fun away from my own game :)

Basically you will be making this game for others to play, believe me after you have coded, planned skilled and created a beautiful area for your mud there isn't much you will discover as a player.

Apart from all that :)

You have an absolutely huge undertaking ahead of you, I only did txt etc your doing graphics too

A rock solid chat system,

A rock solid save game system

Dbase management, Ai, inventory, basic tools of editing so people can create your game world.

And remember even if its free to play everyone and there mother will complain just like you do and say " I can do better"

As you work through the years of work yes years of work you will probably feel ashamed for how you demanded so much and appreciated so little what these other games you played did.

Good luck to you, personally Part of me wishes i was still just a player playing other peoples games and seeing it all for the first time, part of me sees the comunity on my own mud and people having fun.

so your in?...or are you out?

Ok, I was wondering if anyone was ever going to make a post on this subject because I have considered starting a thread like this myself.  For years now, I have had an MMO idea that I have been dying to build and have been hoping against hope that I could raise the resources to make it.  It still may happen, but it is taking longer than I would like.  So then I thought, I wonder if there's anyway I could turn to the MMO community and enlist their aid (through programmers, artists, financial contributions, etc.).  But what has been stopping me is the vast amount of work it would require to organize it.

I'm not sure there are many people on these boards (including myself) who have much of an idea how difficult it would be to put it all together and make it work.  The first thing that would have to be done is to reach some kind of consensus on what game would be made.  And as ianubisi said, that could end the project right there.  But if an agreement was somehow reached, then there would be the process of copyrighting and licensing it.  A company would have to be established so the game could be licensed to that company.

If that were somehow accomplished, the company would have to be populated with qualified employees.  Those who could write the code, the artists, administrators who could keep all the departments functioning as one.  That would be extremely difficult.  If we pulled people from the MMO community, there would be so many people who would want to contribute, it would be very hard to separate those who could actually make a useful contribution from those who just want to be a part of it.

If all that could somehow be achieved, then would come the task of raising the financial capital to pay for it all.  I'm not saying we couldn't get people to contribute money to pay for it.  After all, they are willing to fork out a monthly fee to pay for MMOs they are already bored with anyway.  But the thing that would make them reluctant is not knowing whether or not their contributions were being spent wisely or not.  Some kind of trust fund would have to be set up in the company's name to insure that the company's employees couldn't embezzle the money.

Now, at the same time, I do think there is enough interest out there that if all that could be done, then an MMORPG might possibly be able to be made.  But we would have to convince the MMO community that it is possible before it could happen.  I would suggest something like starting some kind of online petition to see how many people out there would actually be interested.  I'd say a few thousand positive responses might create a viable base from which to build on.  And if enough people responded favorably, then we could maybe come up with a method for trying to pick the right game.  But the problem with that would be that a lot of people wouldn't agree with the final idea and would drop out.  But what you could maybe do is, after a game is agreed upon by the majority, start a second petition and see if you could get more people to sign on a second time knowing what the game idea would be.

Just some random thoughts to think about.

Welcome aboard, I'm putting your name on the list and have you read Dracis post a few post's back, I think I need to get you two talking.

As for how to go about adding aspects to your games, I'd stick to site surveys. Perhaps even the MMORPG.com staff would place your surveys on the front page if you got a decent team with decent ability together.

I'm no scripter or developer, but I did just buy 3D Studio Max and I'm learning how to model. Not to mention writing is one of my passions and I could lend a bit to the game lore...

I'd be willing to contribute, but not design half the game.

yes a good idea, I will wait till we have a semblance of a team or council before I approach the MMORPG.com team.

and yes your name is on the list as a possible volunteer,( till we get started, everyone gets listed as," possible ")

I think the biggest inhibitor is the sheer volume of time it would take, and I suspect most gamers would rather play games than put in the countless hours required to bring something to fruition.  And those who have the skill and time are probably working for developers already.  But, you don't need hundreds of people.  With truly excellent ideas, story writing, gameplay, and art (not necessarily the highest level of detail, but a great style), I think a homegrown MMO could be a huge success.  Sure, most people want the next gen graphics, but it's really not the most important element.  If you got a game off the ground with more basic graphics, you could always update later.   I say form a team and go for it.

Hi garbonzo,

yes i hear what your saying, on the subject of time, i think it's possible to find pepole who enjoy doing both, building & playing, also unlike a comercial team which is limited by how much it cost to hire them, our team can be made up of almost unlimited volanteers,( good or bad) and yes your totally right we don't need hundreds of team members.
