oh who cares, they are GAMES, meant for fun, its like having a favorite car. How many cars are out there? TONS! Not everyone likes the car you like, but it does the same thing as every other car doesn't it? sheesh, people, show some love, enjoy what we have, and if you don't like it, don't drive(play) it.

Never had a problem with levels myself. SWG didnt' have any yet the game felt the same in gaining xp as any other level based game.

Guild Wars just isn't a fun game to me, it bored me to tears right off the bat. So I have no problem with games WITH levels or WITHOUT to tell the truth. I just want FUN.

My ideal MMO combines the best of the games that came before.

Mainly, FFXI's Storyline, cutscenes, missions, job(class)setup, and atmosphere.
SWG's crafting, sandbox content and social aspects.
EQ2's collections and music.
WoW's main gameplay(not the raiding part)but the ease and fun of leveling and combat.
DAOC's RVR, and sheer amount of class choices(looks like WAR will have this so lets use WAR as an example as well.
Conan's combat system looks cool too, so lets use that.

And lastly, lets make 2 games, one scifi the other fantasy( i love both equally). Basically that's what I want, of course innovative aspects are a must as well, but a game like this would keep me happy for years.

Isn't this mmorpg.com? Who cares which game anyone thinks is better, its going to be new, its going to be an mmorpg. So lets just play the damn games and have fun. Unbelievable that people gripe about games that haven't been released yet, or are similar to prior games(which I don't understand the hate here either).

Me personally? I'm going to play AoC when it comes out, since right now there hasn't been much since WoW launched. Then when WAR launches, I'll play that TOO. Then whichever game really fits me, is the one I will continue with. Unless they both rock hardcore, then I will just play both depending on my mood.

Way to be closeminded. Play EQ2 and see how they do it as an objective point of view on a system like this. Doesn't have to be the same but can have some similarities. It is extremely good at creating a "community" feeling and makes guild jumping kind of pointless.

Closed minded? He is completely correct. I play EQ2 and suggesting that thier guild system promotes not-hopping is a laugh. People will hop guilds if one is a higher level if they need a mount or whatever else that you get from higher ranks. It happens a lot.

Ok, that's YOUR point of view, and from an experienced one. Personally I never saw guild hopping when I played, so we have a 50/50 draw on this one. What would you change about that guild level system to still keep it intact but to eliminate the guild hopping you have seen?

My point is lets have an objective conversation on these things instead of saying moronic comments like "guild levels will suck, cuz I don't like em."

Exactly, of the 3 games I have played that had housing (SWG, EQ2, FFXI) it didn't detract in any way from the battle aspect of the game. It made an extra immersion element, extra storage area, and great crafting spot that I could make with my own personal taste interior design. That's all I want when it comes to housing. It is an online world you know, not some game you play on a console every now and then. Hence the appeal of games like itself and the purpose of this site.

Well, unlike the other posters who think player housing is....well not a good idea(why I don't know, they aren't FORCED to have a house) I myself love housing in these mmorpgs, its one area WOW really is lacking and it shows, its why people get burnt out. No side things to do.

I agree with the OP 100% and would like more info on this as well.

Ok, that's more like it, as long as I can, like I said, make one of each, even if I have to split up among a few servers, is fine by me and definitely a plus.

That seems a small number considering the sheer amount of classes. I really mean it when I say one of each race AND class. Everquest 2 fails in this area aswell, with so many classes to play, yet you are limited to 8 character slots in that game. That to me is not cool, not gamebreaking, but a definite negative aspect.

As the title states, I am curious to how many alts or characters we can make. I personally hope it's like WoW I would love to be able to play one of every race and class, that's what makes replayability so high in WoW.

Does anyone know? Also, what about communication with the opposite faction. Is there any or is it mum like WoW? I always liked it to be open, the way SWG has it.

I'd say wait on Age of Conan(october) or Warhammer(2008) if you liked WoW's mechanics, which i do as well. In fact, I agree with you wholeheartedly on your opinion of Wow.

You could TRY lord of the rings online, but personally I found it boring and tedious. The mechanics just didn't have that feel of ease that I expect, or the visceral feel of combat. Graphically its incredible...but that's about it.

Unfortunately, I myself am just playing an alt on WoW since alot of my friends have recently started the game. But I will be playing Conan and then Warhammer when they launch. Can't wait for WAR personally.

Ok, in the first vid, the graphics weren't that impressive. Also, in a real arena fight, who the hell just stands in one spot when fighting just hacking at each other, instead of rolling around, dodging, hopping from foot to foot to keep the enemy unsure as to where you are moving next. Bah..not impressed.

WoW everywhere except in its own game. I don't mind spinoffs, and side marketing things like this, but come on, lets give more to the game before our monthly payments are turned into other media types.

They cant - that would be violating the NDA :)

But obviously you must be doing your job as a tester cuz from what I hear about the game it's good but I'm assuming every one else is wrong and your right huh?

Actually you are assuming that everyone has the same opinion of the same game. Not everyone will like this game. Just like not everyone likes WOW, and and not everyone will like AOC or WAR.

And thats a good thing. Trying to please everyone is a recipe for disaster.

As long as they post to provide feedback about the game - like it or hate it - then yes they are doing their unpaid job as a beta tester.

Thank you, I couldn't have put it better myself. Lets just say certain games,no matter what stage they are in, you can pretty much tell if you will like it or not. I'll leave it at that.

1) WoW
2) SWG (when it launched)
3) FFXI
4) EQ2 (after Echoes of Faydwer)
5) can't really put this here since I only played it recently and only for a short time, but it deserves mentioning. DAOC I think I would have played this like a nut when it first came out, it really has alot of appeal for being so old. but the problem is...it is SO old.

Edit: About the tome, that im still trying to understand. From what ive read so far im my mind its like a cross between lotro deed book, and like a beastiary from a walkthrough. Pointing out str and weaks is intresting, but wont some website have these listed given time, thus rendering part of it less than useful? The earning of skills from it is neat, but again was that not done in lotro? I may not understand it correctly so please correct me if im wrong[/b][/quote]

No, from what the devs have said, the point of the Tome is so you won't HAVE to go look elsewhere online for information. The goal is to unlock all of the Tome that you can(that sounds like fun already). Every person's tome will be different too, suited to your character only. I think they said even quests will come out of it when you discover new things, etc. So imagine you are running to the capital city, you see a cool looking mob on the way and feel like killing it to see what happens.

Now imagine you do that, and when you beat it a new entry goes into your tome on what it was, but there is room for more info, so you should kill more on your way. Eventually, killing more may unlock a quest, or treasure map, whatever. The point is it takes away from the monotony of grinding to give you something for your effort.

That last bit is just how I imagine this tome works, I have no current knowledge on the subject, it is all speculation.
