My original impression when they first posted this video on the tcos website was that it was shot at the same time as the 500 player stress test.  Mabye I happened to see the video and read the stress test article at the same time and mistakeningly came to this conclusion.  Judging by the general response of some of the other posters the two instances are entirely unrelated, but it is much more impressive to look at from my point of view.

There is one thing all of you US gamers should keep in mind because it's a good guess that it's on the mind of every European developer too: The European market forgives minor bugs with the release but in the US you need a polished product from the start, like WoW or LotRO, not like Vanguard.

The reason should be clear, in the US you are accustomed to first class software of your fellow countrymen, in Europe you might get enough applause for originality alone. It's a general point of view, sometimes European developers have the best software, like SAP in their field, but in the gaming business if you fetch programmers out of 19 countries, which is what happened, to make a state of the art product you can't take risks with the American market. You are always thinking in the back of your mind about coming to the US only with the second release build. It wasn't that important 5 years ago where everybody was nearly happy about being able to log in on the first week of an mmo.

Perhaps it's really all only publisher related but I have a feeling that you don't get a final release date before the open beta. Which definitely won't start this month. After all, even WoW didn't manage the christmas release (or did it in the US?) and postponing releases is part of the mmo business like a player avatar. Nevertheless good luck.

I feel that I, as an American, can forgive minor bugs as easily as any European.  Besides, I think Vanguard is a poor example.  It was far from minor in any way.  Losing all of your gear for no reason is certainly not minor.  Intermittent character rollbacks for no reason isnt either.  I have other things in my mind that I won't explain because I think these two are rather potent.

It's fine, that you, as a person believe what you said is true, but if you were representing any sort of business, I would feel severely insulted by your statement and would likely avoid providing any of my business to that company.

Dec would be very nice.

They've said before that there will be no simultaneous U.S./Euro release.

So even if it releases in Dec. that will be in Europe, and it will be a few months past that before we get it in the U.S.

Whoops!  Not according to the most current FAQ in the tcos forums.  I don't believe I have ever seen them state that there will be no simultaneous launch.  According to my info, they have refused to disclose an absolute decision on the subject and have stated several times that they are still aiming for a simultaneous launch.  If you take some time to read through the discussions on the home forums you should be able to find several more up-to-date statements from the community manager reflecting this.

I should also add that the community manager seem to be quite optimistic on getting a U.S. publisher.  Unfortunately for us, optimism doesn't exactly predict the future.  We can only hope.

The thing I don't like about the monk/bruiser classes in PvP is that they have no snares and half of PvP is chasing down runners.

If I had to choose between the 2 I'd go with bruiser since their heal is on a shorter recast, they can buff their DPS (monks can buff the speed of their autoattacks) and their CAs hit harder (monk's CAs hit for less but are on a shorter recast) which is a good thing in PvP IMO since you want all the burst damage you can get before the player knows whats going on.

I agree with you on this.  Until I got drag, chasing runners was more like me hoping they made a wrong turn.  As long as you land your blows, one run of your CA's should be enough burst damage to kill any other class.  I miss the old days when you could chain stun though, ahhh those were the sweet days indeed.  Until you ran into a mezzing class when you had low resists.

It hasn't been like that since pvp launch so you might want to do some research, click on those links in the OP and come back when you have something more thought out to say on the matter. What fascinates me is there is something in place that prevents you from pvp'ing on a pvp server, yet you think that its "fair", and working as intended. You two must not play on pvp servers and replying from another game's point of view or a pve point of view. If I'm attacked, I want to be able to defend myself, regardless of whom I am mentoring. I don't want the ability to grief lower level people, I don't want the ability to attack the level range I'm mentored to, but if someone is stupid enough to attack me when they can see that I'm higher level and mentored down, then I should have full authority to show them why its not a wise thing to do.

For starters, I said near launch, not at launch.  And as a matter of fact I am indeed correct.  How recently have you began playing this game?  How long have you experienced it on a pvp server?  I have played on Nagafen since it's launch, and more extensively than I would care to admit.  I vividly recall picking on enemies that I knew could not fight back because they were mentored.  I have been doing my research on this since the launch of Nagafen, how long have you been doing yours?

For closure, I never said it was fair or unfair, and it is far from broken because it works exactly how it's supposed to.  You are not allowed to fight because you are still severely overpowered for your level when you are mentored.   This was implemented to prevent mentored higher levels from beating the crap out of the true lower levels, to keep the fights fair for them.  Instead of them being defensless you are now defensless.  There was a simple solution for people who wished to mentor, do it in an instance or take the risk.  I do agree however, it would be nice to defend yourself.

I highly suggest that before going on the offensive you take the time to understand the posts that upset you and make sure you aren't reacting to something that there is no reason to react to, particularly with an "I'm superior" attitude.

Hahaha, wow I got screwed on my racial then.  Half elf invis, lasted for like 5 minutes, you could not move, and had a very long reuse timer.

Pfft a delay is ALWAYS a good thing. It would have been a bad thing for them to tell their beta-testers 'we don't give a F what you think' which is EXACTLY what VG did. Instead, they bite the bullet and delay the game to improve those things the beta-testers said need improved upon.

Can anyone who's ever beta-tested a game, and then seen that game get pushed back, say it wasn't dramatically for the better? I've tested dozens of games, and I can't think of a single one.

Nope, you are point on. Also, as one of those Vanguard testers I felt a major slap in the face when they launched the game like that.

I joined the Vanguard open beta three days from launch, the problems I went through just trying to get the client downloaded from them was hell enough.  I was a bit taken back when I saw the state of the game at T-3 days from launch.  Regardless I stuck with it for a couple months and moved on.

Did you also get the feeling the game took a step backwards from beta to launch?

Personally I've played a bruiser in PVP so your monk question is similar. Granted Bruisers have a few more stuns than Monks, but I truly believe that since both brawler classes get some type of immunity to stuns and such end game they are unbeatable. The only problem I've ever had was with a brigand because they got stuns off. Rarely rangers would be a problem if they got first hit and kept it ranged. Assasins are easy kills as most of their big hits are stealthed and you can keep one from running away. All in all I think the only weakness you will have is getting ganked by more than 1 person OR a templar/inquisitor since they can nuke and heal for hours. Otherwise 1v1 you can beat any class hands down.

Eh, Monks are a little different from the Bruiser from what I understood.  Bruisers had several abilities focusing on damage and tended to have higher, high end damage on their skills than monks.  Monks seemed to have a few more abilities for defensive purposes than the bruisers.  As a bruiser, the only class that truly gave me grief were the swashies.  Only a couple of the highly skilled, very well equipped monks on the server ever posed a significant threat.  Also, provided the game still has stun immunities after being stunned like it did when I played it kind of defeats the purpose of having so many stuns, unless you are target hopping.

Monks are far from bad however, as they have very similar skills to the bruiser, except for their unique high end abilties.  I have heard people say they are better tanks than bruisers, although I think that would depend on the player.  I have been considering coming back to EQ2 and monk is one of the classes I would like to play.

About your gig against stealth classes though, the racial ability probably has a good length reuse timer on it, and likely, has only a short duration.  There should be super cheap totems you can buy that last for 15 minutes, ones that see stealth, and ones that see invis.  The totems are probably far more effective.

Thanks for the response. I was asking more about the state of the game at level 70 though. I had a 70 coercer on nagafen that I used to raid with some before the Echoes of Fadyr (sp?) expansion. I hate WoW style dkp raiding, and when I played on nagafen before, the pvp was sparse at best. Arenas were empty, and I was already tired of the outdoor boss thing from playing FFXI (a lot). I really enjoyed the game leveling up (once as freeport and once as qeynos), but it just got really boring after hitting 70. The samurai expansion was sorta cool, but I finished everything there minus killing the dragon turtle thing. Mostly, I just couldn't take another raid gear grind like I experienced in WoW.

Hey what was your name?  Coercer was one of those less common classes for max level, I'm sure I saw you around.  My character was Tiifa on the Freeport side if you care to know.  I've also been considering going back to EQ2, atleast until one of these newer games gets release.  I'm somewhat curious on the state of the game myself.

I would have to say one thing. In no way is this an exploit. You are mentoring down to benefit yourself and others and in return you have a weakness, you can't fight back in PVP. Would it be fair for a mentored 21 from 70 PVP people +-4 of level 21? No. You would have unbalanced skills, stats and advantages. If you don't want to get pvp'd while mentoring, don't do it in a hot spot such as Greater Faydark. Again, this is in no WAY an exploit. An exploit is manipulating the system to gain an unfair advantage over other players. Do you think people roam around looking for mentored players, just so they get free kills? No.

I completely agree with this statement.  It's not an exploit it is a purposeful game mechanic.  Whether or not people agree with it's purpose is the key element.

I'm a bit curious why it is suddenly a problem though, when it has been like this since an update a short while after the pvp server launches.
