I'm an old school mmorpg player from Meridian 59, Ultima Online (back when it was good) and Asherons Call Darktide.   My first mmorpg experiences were not PVE related but PVP.  My core roots have been kill or be killed, gain allies and defeat player enemies.   I can handle any harsh FFA PVP environment with ease.  As such Age of Conan PVP servers are a Godsend for me.    If you are an old schooler then I urge you to pick up a copy of Age of Conan and join a PVP server! THE OLD DAYS ARE BACK MY FRIENDS.  I've been slaughtering players over & over & over again.   You can easily take control and impose your will upon anyone you please.

- Having friends in Age of Conan PVP server actually means something. Why? Because they haven't killed you so obviously they are your friend!

- You are free to kill anyone you please, so if someone angers you just kill them.

- You are free to do as you wish.

- This game caters to the elite mmorpg PVP'er.  Chances are if you come from everquest or world of warcraft you will not like this game or you will be utterly destroyed by the veterans.

- The combat system IS NOT EASY.  The game requires you to have a high degree of skill or else you will be defeated by more intelligent players.

- There is no mercy for the stupid & weak (World of warcraft or everquest type players).

This game is going to provide at least 6-8 months of enjoyment!

See you on Deathwhisper.

In the internet i can be mr bean if i say so...

Veterans will hate aoc..because in aoc you can only kill a person once...when he rez he chooses  another instance of that zone, instance number 566 per exemple and loads away from the veteran that only killed him once...

And if all do the same the poor veteran will stay alone in that small linear instanced zone..

A good pvp game must have no instanced zones, no loadings so that the prey cant escape anywere..unless he calls some friends to stat a bigger battle...

I agree with you man.  But at this point I'll take whatever is close.

How does a Barbarian hold up at level 80 PVP?

How does a Bear Shaman hold up at level 80 PVP?

How about the other classes?

Let's start a discussion here.

Last time I played this game player turrets were extremely overpowered in PVP and even if you managed to turn the turrets against your enemy (with a skill) you wouldn't receive any points for the kill.

Is there still extreme hospital camping during clan wars?

To the carebear OP.   THere are 928392832 mmorpgs on the market that are just like EQ, i dont' see what you have to complain about. If anything there is a severe shortage of hardcore PVP mmorpgs.

You should be in World of Warcraft right now raiding, that is what you people do best.

A lot of people are complaining about PVP in this game. That is a good sign since this means you can actually lose in PVP.  Unlike world of sh*tcraft where EVERYONE is a winner, it's good to see a mmorpg company finally "man up" and declare a winner and loser in PVP engagement.

I would LOVE to try this game and if it was fun I would definitely buy it, HOWEVER I will never ever buy a mmorpg blind without trying it since so many crappy games have come out recently.

I'm going to wait until I can trial the US/EU servers. So until a trial comes out for the US/EU servers I can't buy this game, sorry.

1) You level up to 50.

2) You do quests.

3) At 50 you raid for gear.

I gurantee you that this game will introduce nothing new.  When this game finally comes out in 8 years I'll pull up this thread again.

Don't waste your money on the game without trying it for free first.

You want my opinion on why the game sucks without just saying it sucks?  Alrighty.

1. No official forums or Dev blog, there is literaly close to zero communication between Devs and players.

2. No end game content, when you hit 50 you can kill striders over and over or do clans wars which is controlled by the clan leaders(with rules).  Thats all the EG there is, no PvP servers, nothing.

3. The player base is weak, expect to find yourself soloing most of the game, this includes the instances.

4. The crafting system is weak and everyone who plays it knows it.

5. Other then doing missions(quests), clan wars, or defending/attacking control points, there is nothing else to do.

6. They just recently made mobs take longer(MUCH longer to kill), this increases how long it takes to level, most likely they did this to buy themselves time to put in EG content.  Unfortunitly for them I bought the game a week before thos, loved the game because it was so fast and now it's a joke.  Have fun crouching and holding down your mouse button as you use your leach gun on 1 mob for 10-20 seconds until it dies and moving onto the next.

7. Pace of adding new content, slow.  Go look at the 1.5 patch notes, they are a joke, I have low doubts TR is gonna have enough new content added to have it compete in the future.

I really could go on, but why bother.

Honestly, I got 20 days left of my account and I doubt I'll be resubbing.

39 Demo, 30 Engi, 15 exo, 18 commando.

Try it yourself, you really won't be impressed by it after about a month of playing.  It's pretty sweet at first but then it becomes even more repetitve then other MMOs I have played.

And I want to say how pissed I'am at 1.4 patch again, half the people I knew quit when they did that.

Too bad, seems Garriot didn't learn that if you don't communicate with the players and give them what THEY want, you will fail.

Hope you enjoyed my explanation for why the game sux instead of just saying it sux.

This post made me lawl. It is true though. This game is horrible. Richard Garriott got paid 18 million dollars to make this game. He ends up using the money to fly in a russian space shuttle.  Yes he went into space! LAWL.   I wonder if he thought to himself  "man tabula rasa really sucks but at least i'm in space NOOBS!!".... hahah

Have you been in a clan war in 1.3 ? Don't you remember how fast paced it was?

In 1.4 I was shooting players over & over again. At one point I dozed off.

A new patch has come out that prolongs combat.  Before the patch you could kill a player in about 3-4 hits.  In this new patch it takes a LONG TIME to kill players. The twitch combat in PVP has been removed pretty much.   Engineer turrets are also extremely overpowered.

I bought this game originally because of the PVP twitch combat. It was fast paced just like an FPS and gun shots meant something, they actually did damage and killed quickly like they are supposed to.

It is not like that anymore......

STAY AWAY from this one..

This game looks interesting but with all the horrible mmorpgs coming out lately I want to try this game before I buy it. Anyone know where I can get a free trial?

Do not buy this game in its current state.   Wait about 2-3 months. Let them fix the following problems THEN it will be one of the greatest mmorpgs EVER!! :)

DO NOT BUY TABULA RASA UNTIL THEY FIX THE FOLLOWING

1) So many of the quests are still broken. Half the time you have to petition a GM to complete the quest for you. This is extremely annoying. Its like this all the way to level 50.

2) Healing/Repair is currently bugged in the game. You heal/repair for very very low damage and it is a confirmed bug by the company yet they do nothing about it.

3) The classes are so imbalanced and broken it is unbelievable.  There is a skill called traitor which makes a character not be able to attack for 15 seconds lol.   Basically an IWIN button.

4) If you are really into the PVE scene this game has no content at level 50.

5) Half the time if you want to access your footlocker to get/retrieve items you have to back off and open it up again & again until it works.

6) I'm really upset at Bug #2 (up above)

7) The crafting system is basically the worst I've ever seen in any mmorpg.  You can't even make items from scratch.  Items drop with certain stats on them. You can increase them with recipes and if your lucky enough to get an item with the right combo of stats you could add an extra modification if you want.  The problem is there is no flexibility. You can't have armor your way.  You have very little control with crafting in the game.

Tabula Rasa has a fast twitch based combat system which really shines during PVP battles.  You can join a clan and war against other player clans. After 7 days whoever makes the most kills will emerge the victor.

Two reasons to play Tabula Rasa

- PVP is great.
- Clan Wars allow the dominant clans to really rise up as the most powerful on the server.

If you are into this scene then this game is for you.

I'm level 46 now and I love scouting out places hoping to find enemy players we've declared war against.  Nothing like trying to fight against a Sniper who already has his fixed position.  Or trying to fight off a Guardian who charges at you relentlessly.

PVP my friends. This game is great for PVP!

Review from a carebear's perspective

I just bought this game and wanted to let you guys know that its FUN.  You make a character and are thrown in a war.  Outposts and stuff get attacked, sirens go off and you go outside and its just chaotic fun.  Play it for a full day or two and you'll get into it.  I like this game much better than world of warcraft. Tabula rasa truly captured what it feels like to be in a war. YOu feel the tension and the adrenaline rush.  In world of "war"craft there was no war lol.

From a carebears perspective this game gets TWO THUMBS UP... Very good game and lot more fun that world of borecraft.

Review from a From a hardcore FFA PVP'er's perspectice

This game is soo frickin carebear its unbelievable. The game has an incredible combat system but is totally wasted on NPC killing and pve noobing.  I'm hoping that they release a seperate server with FFA PVP so that all the elite mmorpg players of the world can come and fight each other in this awesome world.  Too bad its carebear!... Also the game is zoned to hell so even if there was ffa pvp your enemies can hide in zones. Imagine scouting the same area 6 times amongst 6 different zones just to find enemy players.

I heard they are introducing some PVP instances (like world of borecraft) so I guess this game may tide us over until Darkfall, AOC.

As a FFA PVP'er I give this game TWO THUMBS DOWN. Turn your brain off genetlmen and just treat it like a cool single player coop game.

If I had 12 hours a day to play, sure, it could be cool. But when you only have a couple hours to play...do you really want to spend the entire time getting killed by someone 20 levels higher than you? That is the core of the matter for many.

The typical response is to hurry up and level to cap so you can at least have a chance. Many of us don't have that option, being as we have lives outside the virtual world and can't compete with hardcore people that got nothin better to do than play games.

If you are able to play games all day long, good for you. But the reality is that most of us cannot do that, which makes an FFA game pretty pointless for the most part. Our only role would be to feed the ego's of people double our level that we can't even hurt.

I'm all for structured pvp like daoc. I'd even give darkfall a try, if I could grab a guild fast enough. But I can't denounce people who don't want to pvp 24 7 simply because they don't have the time, or perhaps don't enjoy it.

D.

I'm a good aligned ffa pvp'er. I gurantee you there will be a safe haven controlled by good aligned players who will protect you while you level up for a few hours a day.  They will be on regular patrols making sure evil players don't harass you.  I've experienced this in ultima online old days & asherons call darktide.  It can and would happen.  :)  You'd be protected.

You can still play a few hours a day and be an FFA PVP'er you just need to join a guild with strong leadership that will take some load off your back and just let you login and do what you do best, FIGHT... :)
