2h "blunt," you say?  You mean like the massive 2h hammer that they already have?  Or were you refering to something one might smoke?  Sorry, but you never know about people around here.  You have to be specific or you might be misunderstood.

Anywhoozle....there is already a lovely 2h hammer that whoops arse.

Just sayin'.

Exactly.  Dull and stale my ass.  And stale is misspelled by "GamerFun."  You really should learn how to spell your insults.  It makes you appear more intelligent and at least gives the ILLUSION that you might have a point.

That video was spot on outrageous.  The immersion factor is crazy.  I need to follow the NPCs more, I see. They have a whole thing of their own going on and I'm missing out when I don't keep in touch with them, it seems.

Forgot to add....no I did not cancel.  I pre-purchased and am very happy with the progress of the game thus far.  I'm looking forward to release....very excited about it.

TERA has been released for over a year (in Korea).  GW2 is still in beta.  And yet in comparisons.....I'm seeing a lot of GW2>TERA, so I'm anxious to see this kind of comparison article WHEN IT'S ACTUALLY MORE FAIR and at least both games have been released.

I haven't played TERA so I can't judge it, but GW2 is going to be my new MMO once it's out....that much I can say.  I don't like the graphics of TERA and I don't like them enough that I won't be playing it.  That's pretty big hate for the graphics there....or should I say art style.  Yes, art style.  Eww icky gross.  GW2.....ahh soft, beautiful, entrancing.

There is no battle this is a myth to stir talk of GW2 and quite frankly Im tired of it.  Tera is a launched game, GW2 is a beta game with no official release date.

If they released at the same time then sure there would be a battle.  When GW2 launches not only will it have to find a space with Tera it also has to compete with everyother game.

To put things in perspective The Secret World will launch before GW2 so will Diablo 3 and so will Torchlight 2 finally when it does launch it will probably have to compete with Mists of Pandaria yeh sure spout crap about WoW below but that won't stop a few million copies being sold by people who will never leave wow.

Maybe you should have told your fellow TERA player this before he STARTED this thread.....

I care nothing about "battles" unless they're in the game I'm playing.  Battles BETWEEN games are idiotic in my opinion.  Everyone likes whatever game they like and MOST adults aren't going to easily be swayed just because some other person doesn't like the same thing.  What a waste of time reading this thread is.

This should be in General Discussion because it's not about TERA, it's about BOTH games.  Having it here just allows for the TERA fans to claim anyone from GW2 camp is "trolling" because we DARE to comment on a thread where our favorite game is mentioned.  But then, the OP has listed that they want to play TERA, so I shouldn't be surprised.  General Discussion (not on the TERA boards) is where it belongs.

Movin' on.....

And Zenimax?!! <3

Really love that studio since FONV, possibly one of the best written games ever. Also one of the most immersive sprpg's I ever played.

Realy promising news.

I have actually always wanted an Elder Scrolls MMO, but at the same time, it's such a huge task and I have worried that it would get really fouled up if it ever happened.  So while I agree with your excitement.....I can't say "already 9000x better than GW2," because I have no idea what they're going to do with this HUGE and GREAT intellectual property.  There is such a massive possibility of success and also such an overwhelmingly large potential for failure....failure on a level greater than that of SWTOR, I'm afraid.  Let's hope against all hope that that does NOT come to fruition, because this could be the greatest MMO of all time.  What could match it if it was well done?  Nothing.  Earth shattering potential both for making us dance for joy or causing us to cry rivers of bitter tears.

A big problem with this in this beta weekend was with the overflow servers. You can't pick on which server you are redirected and if your friend gets on a different server, you can't play together.

This was my biggest issue with the BWE.  My partner and I got to play together all of 15 minutes in Divinity's Reach the ENTIRE weekend.  I was a bit unhappy about that.  I hope they fix it, because our whole POINT in buying this game was to have a game to play together again.  It's been a long time.  SO hoping they fix this.

I refuse to argue the "trinity" I've already said my peace to Badspock about that.

I will say when I was running a full support Engineer , I was playing the healer role with my mate. It was sufficient enough neither of us were dieing in Spvp and others were. The Engineer can actually heal for decent amounts,  in PvE  and PvP. I still think there won't be a healing role in competitve play  .... but i'm positive heals will be thrown out like mad, enough to make a difference and enough to be nessecary to a winning combination.

* You are also  downplaying the effectiveness of the 5 ability on the Elixir Gun , its one of the Engineers better aoe heals.

Since there are no TARGETED heals, why do you suppose that just you and your buddy were doing okay?  I would think those engineer AoE heals would have helped other people too.  I'm not familiar with the engineer, so I just wondered if maybe something is different about their heals?  Do you think their heals are better than the water elementalist?  I'm just wondering, ya know....for me and my partner and for our guild.  I don't know if we even have anyone planning on playing an engineer.

This is a little silly. I have played a lot of GW2 always in a group, and this is how I see it.

Say you want to "tank" and you want to hold aggro. Essentially you are trying to peel a squishy build (ele, "healer" whatever). The most effective way to get aggro off of your buddy is to do this: knock the mob around. launch it away from your buddy, knock it down, immobilize it etc. You can go stand next to it and bash all day and have your buddy run away from it, but odds are it will just follow your buddy around unless you have a way of stopping/slowing/launching/pulling the mob. After it has seperate from your buddy you have options and the aggro can change. In the meantime, it isn't hurting your buddy which was your objective.

This is what the devs mean when they say there is a 'control' role. It works very well against melee mobs. Against range mobs it is much more simple. stand between the ranged mob and your buddy. you take the hits.

Now about healing, I had an engineer I got to level 15. Thru crafting and rewards I pushed healing power as much as possible. Also every trait bump was to healing power. At level 15 I got a trait that my healing power went up even further when i was low on health. My heal skill was a heal turret. My first utility was an elixer gun, which also has an aoe heal as the #5. I noticed bumping the heal power traits made a big difference in my healing but even with all the push towards healing, my heal turret gave regen to everyone in the area of 14 points a second. I had 1300 hps. 1% of my hps were recovered every second. This was not enough, not even close to keep anyone standing who is going toe to toe with a mob and letting themselves be hit. The heal skill on the elixer would do a one shot of about 60 health and then a regen area. I never felt anything close to a healer.

However I had other tools. I had a shield that i could use to block ranged attacks and push back melee attackers. If I went rifle I could launch single targets or immobilize them. I had other shots with my elixer gun that would remove conditions or give swiftness to allies while making the enemy vulnerable (swiftness allows you to run faster so you can get away from mobs). My flame thrower could launch opponents OR pull them to me.

In short I felt like I was a great SUPPORT character. Pretty much the whole time I was contributing to damage as well.

Yes, there is a big misconception about gw2, and that is that you will be effective trying to play solely as a healer, dps, or tank in gw2 and be an effective teammate.

Thank you for explaining what I was trying to say in an earlier post.  For some reason you just can't convince some people that there are NO TANKS, NO HEALERS.....PERIOD.  It is about damage mitigation, blocking, stunning, whatever it takes to evade damage, more than it is about healing, which cannot possibly be done enough to outheal the damage.  You explained this much more eloquently than I could have. Healing is good, it's just not good enough to make "dedicated healers."  They still need to control and support and dps some.  Everyone needs to be on their toes and do ALL of those things that they CAN.  Standing between the ranged and the mobs though is a good point, BUT....I saw mobs change their aggro for no apparent reason all the time.  There really just isn't any aggro management (no taunts, for one) in the manner than most people are used to.

At the current listed rates, you have to pay 16,200 gems to have eight characters with unlocked inventory and bank slots in GW2. With the assumption that the conversion rate is $1=100 gems, that’s $162 dollars above and beyond the box cost of the game. Edit: The actual gem price is believed to be $5=400 gems, which makes the cost $202.50 for those 16200 gems. A year’s subscription to WoW is $156 if purchased in six-month blocks, making it ironically cheaper to play a year of WoW than a year of GW2.

Honestly, I don't have any strong feelings about the cash shop either positive OR negative, but I do have to say to THIS comment.....WoW SHOULD be cheaper to play, it's a freakin' dinosaur.  Newer games are eventually going to come with newer prices.  That's pretty much how life works with some rare exceptions.  Prices go up.

Every race has its own story and zones. Also, there's different paths within one's story. Roll 5 characters and there you have it 1000+ hours.

Now, that's funny. When people talked about SW TOR's unique story lines the GW2 fanboys swooped in like vultures saying "pff.. boring".

Also, you must be wrong about each race having it's dedicated zones. Unless you mean dedicated quest areas like TOR. Which is another aspect mocked by the aforementioned fans. Isn't irony a bitch or what.

Well not ALL GW2 fans did that, I know for a fact.  I played SWTOR and I was a GW2 fan the entire time.  The best part of SWTOR to me WAS the class quests or personal stories to use the term GW2 uses.  I loved the stories.  It's actually all that kept me coming back to the game until I finally got bored and quit.  Same with the zones.  I know at least THIS GW2 fan had never dogged SWTOR's class line of quests or zones.  I enjoyed the game very much until....I just didn't enjoy it any more.  The exact same thing I will do with GW2.  I think GW2 will last longer for me, but that remains to be seen.  I'm not a prophet.

when is the next BWE? Its not this weekend, right?

Next BWE will probably be about a month from now.  They're going to be roughly once a month.

MY hope:

That they fix the overflow servers so they don't separate you from your party.

Did someone just REALLY start a thread to warn adults about a potential recreational expenditure and the dangers of it?  Really?  Really?

These forums get more absurd every single day.

I remember in a interview, a guy (I have no idea how the people that work on this game are called or look like) said that the threat system in GW2 is preety basic. An enemy will attack the target closest to him. So you could keep aggro in a certain way.

Yeah, but you can't really sustain all that much damage so you'll have to keep moving, which may cause you to lose aggro.

I saw characters tank all the time in WvWvW. Keep lords that could 2 shot my character managed to be tanked. This wasn't the exception. This happened all the time in WvWvW situations and was a common occurrence.

Then you had someone at the front that knew how to use their blocks, stuns, de-buffs and damage mitigation, as well as dodging.  Does that make them a TANK?  No.  It makes them someone who knows how to play their profession in an optimized manner.  Technically, all professions can take turns one on one with the mobs that are being fought, but they will be doing things like blocking, stunning, de-buffing, etc. not "tanking."  There is no aggro management and there is no taunt.  You have to use your other skills to mitigate damage and then to do damage.  Any profession, PLAYED WELL, can do that.

And as far as "healers" go.....the "heals" that elementalists have are probably the best and they cannot POSSIBLY outheal damage.  They heal for too little.  People will have to heal themselves and not rely on an elementalist to keep them up.  Those heals are more a small utility than a traditional full blown heal.

I noticed many MANY melee ( guardians and warriors ) trying to tank stuff.

My girlfriend played a guardian and she didn't even have the dodge keybinded. Then again she could take quiet a beating compared to my elementalist. if i got hit by some sort of bigger attack i'd INSTANTLY loose 50%+ of my health :O   (when i was fire specced that is)

I played with my girlfriend guardian all weekend and i quickly noticed 2 cenarios. If there were many melee mobs i was at a major advantage, compared to her, simply kiting and dodging them to their death ^^. But when their were 4 ranged mobs i'd OFTEN bite the dust.  I founded it REALLY hard trying to survive in those situation. Often the only way to survive was to get out of line of sight untill my heal was back up. While in the meantime my gf was getting hammered, but she really could get a massive beating compared to me without dieing.

All in all, balance needs some work i'd say, but damn, i thought it was amazing :D The difference in classes and playstyles is one of the things i love most

Next BWE let your gf know that you don't have to keybind dodge to another key (unless that just works better for you).  I left mine on double tap of WASD which left me free to dodge in any direction necessary.  Personally....I think that's better than having it bound to another single key that makes you dodge in only ONE direction.  Just double tap one of the WASD keys.  And that's the default set up.  I don't know....maybe I'm the only one that liked the default?

In my opinion.....

TERA looks like an anime/manga nightmare.  Literally, it looks like something from my nightmares.  GW2 is lovely, beautiful, stunning.  There is no comparison in my book.  As a matter of fact, the graphical TURN OFF of TERA is what keeps me from playing it.  I can't stand to look at it.  GW2, on the other hand, is just beautifully dreamlike.  The cities are the most amazing cities I have seen in any game and many of the landscapes were breathtaking.

I want to look at more screenies!  Anyone else take any during BWE?  I have to admit that I did not.  I was too busy paying attention to dodging and about 60 spells (elementalist).  Fun times, fun times. :)

So you played the beta even though you had previously made this statement:

"Yeah and GW2 is still going to be carebear to the max. I'll play SWTOR before ever playing this craphole game with its carebear instance box pvp system. At least in SWTOR I can PvP without jumping into instance battlegrounds."

I am so confused. Between the 19th and the 30th did you manage to buy and play SWTOR and then decide to give that up so you could prepurchase GW2 so you could play in the beta weekend?

Please clarify, thanks in advance.

And yet another caught in a questionable story.  I can't believe they're actually making up stories to tell in threads.  This is the second one I know of, but I'm sure there are others.

I you hate GW2 for some inexplicable reason.....why not just be honest and say so instead of making up an elaborate fabrication?

I certainly didn't cancel my pre-order, since I pre-purchased and the game exceeded my expectations.

I have it too....."GW2 Effect" or as I'd rather call it "Any Game I'm Anxiously Waiting On Effect."

I need a game to play between now and GW2 release, but the old fall backs just don't sound good to me any more.  I'm done with SWTOR.  WoW might be okay, but I don't know....I've tried that a few times since I left and I always end up disgusted and logging out and deleting it, although maybe pandas might....who am I kidding....just no.  EQ2 maybe?  I don't know, not even THAT oldie but goodie sounds good now. :(

Does anyone have a SERIOUS suggestion as to a game that MIGHT be original enough to hold my attention between now and GW2 release?  It needs to be a game I can buy online and I'm not sure that pay to play or free to play really matters to me.

Even LotRO sounds blah.  Is DCUO any good...it's one I've never played....or STO?  TERA just rubs me the wrong way, I hate the graphic style of it and the animations.  Just an opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

Is there ANYTHING out that warrants a look or that I haven't already played into the ground?  Maybe it's time to buy Skyrim?  I have D3 pre-ordered at Gamestop, but I'm not sure I want it anymore. Seems to me that they've taken all the Diablo out of it.

/sigh

I have "gamer's depression" me thinks.

Threads are really getting smaller since I started blocking people.  I think I will enjoy this site much more in the future.  I love it when people can be objective and see both the flaws and achievements in a game, but even the outright fanatics are better than the constant Negative Nellys who never have a positive word to say.  Who needs that in their recreational reading material? lol

The odds are stacked for GW2 alright.  And I know some people that will be very pissed if the game has even a modicum of success. C'est la vie.
