LOL!  OMG!  This game just became ridiculous!!!

Been playing since Beta.  And NOW I get notified that my character name is considered "offensive" (which its actually not.  "F**KMe" would be offensive) and has been banned.  I guess other players have been going around reporting/screenshoting names they find offensive & getting them banned- whether you know it's offensive in their language or not!!!  NICE!! 

LOL!!  Guess we cant have kids seeing names that might offend while they're hacking away at something with a sword.

And if yer gonna ask, I named myself after the asian kid in the movie "16 Candles".

I agree that some names are just flat-out bad, but Geez!!!

On the bright side, they say "create a new character & they'll transfer everything over".

Not sure if I want to now.  If they're THAT easily offended who knows how many characters one would have to go through.

Whether or not I'll play 9D is no ones concern, but it IS helpful to have people come on these forums and give their views, negative and all, since it helps people who come to these forums for info on games they know little to nothing about. Whether P2M or WASD is the movement format is used, I only appreciate the fact someone mentioned which one is used. I can play either one.  Doesnt make a difference. 

 What I like about the click N move thing is, I can click on the horizon, keep running using the Right Mouse button down to steer while I use my other hand to pop open another can of beer.

True.   Too much grinding.  Not enough XP for the effort at higher levels.  More quests would be nice, since those are what I look forward to.

It would be nice if the game didnt have some serious Server Login issues right now.  Word on the forums is, they're sharing a server with another "Freebie" game, 2 Moons, causing lag, disconnects, and all kinds of unhappiness.

Just like World of Warcraft where people buy gold from online sites,  SL has its own "currency exchange" where residents can sell their extra "Lindens" or "L$" on a market for other players to buy.  The L$ have a selling rate of around $L276 per $1.  Its even cheaper if you're buying.  I remember buying $L2000 for a simple $7.50.  Not bad for a full night of shopping, uploading, and fun.

And if you notice my last post about it, my shop makes a small $300/month.  Nothing extravagant, but enough for that bit of extra to a real world paycheck.

 

 

I've been on Second Life for over 2 years now. 

I dont make a living at it.  I DO have a premium account, though.

Oddly enough, I make enough to cover my costs for it.

I sell avatars and avatar skins.  Make about $300/month at it.  Sometimes a bit less, sometimes more.

For me its not about "Making the $$$", it's about having fun!  Dressing up as a Borg, a zombie, a furry, a goth, a prep, a famous cartoon character, a Mech, a samurai..... its endless.  There's the Social Aspect.  I've met people, made friends, and became a part of various groups.   OH- not friends as in "Hey, lets go kill that dragon now!", but friends where you know their life story.  Where they ask how you're job hunt, or kid is doing.  THOSE kind.

The only limits really ARE your imagination.  I'd chalk it up to %10 Imagination, %10 creativity, and %100 willingness to do without restrictions.

There are RP areas where one can become many things.  One of the last ones I've explored was the Dune RP island.  Very cool!  Even had Ride-able Sandworms!!

My store is a large mausoleum with an underground temple to almighty Cthulhu.

My House is Invader Zim's house, complete with Yard Gnomes and Underground Lab.

You DON'T have to own land to have a shop!!!  My first shop was a rented Stall.  It cost less than what I pulled in to rent.

SL has its share of lag & other issues.  Mostly due to the nature of it.  Nothing is on your hard drive other than a "client".  The rest- sounds, video, textures, etc, all stream in.  From what I was told, it's over several Peta-bytes of Information for everything.  Thats quite large.

So for anyone interested in trying it, I'll gladly meet ya there & try to help you get started.  I love helping New Folks!!  Here's a hint:  Yadni's Junkyard of Freebies (it's where I picked up some free stuff like 2 types of Daleks that attack each other while screaming Dalek phrases).

But I've encountered some things that are annoying or just really aggravating.

1.  Heavy Censorship on chat.  Can't even say "Wu-Tang", one of the clans, without it being censored.  It will even censor the word "Basketball".

2.  From the censorship of chat, and attitude, of some of the players- you're gonna be playing with what must be REALLY young children.

3.  Censorship on Names.  Not just outright "bad" names, but even if someone is 'offended' by a non-offensive name, you might consider yourself banned.

4.  Support.  So-So.  I can get better support for my Commodore 64 most of the time.

5.  REALLY Excessive Grinding.  Not sure if Warcraft does it.  Never played it.  Never had the time to make use of spending $15/month on it.  BUT- do we need to kill something for a measley 0.05% experience, for several days???

6.  Item Mall.  Nothing too major worth spending real money on.  A few items give you a bit of an edge for Experience, say something like +10%.  Still nothing too great.

ON the PLUS side:

1.  Double Experience Weekends!!!   Friday thru Sunday for 2 Hours.

2.  Ability to Solo!!!  FINALLY!!  I like this in a game.  The attitudes of some players just leave me wishing manners & courtesy were again a part of Human Nature.

3.  Kung-Fu!!  Each clan has its own style Kung-Fu.  Own style of Weapon advantages too. 

4.  Graphics!  MUCH Better than Warcraft.  Close to Guild Wars, if not the same level.  I've got a friend who started playing 9D more than Warcraft because he was not only tired of spending the money on something he didnt play religiously for 15 hrs a day, but also because the Graphics were better.

I have one, got the Razer mouse cheap, and the ExactMat for my 6th Anniversary (my fiancee loves me that much).

The review was dead-on!!!

It's a bit bigger than my keyboard tray, so the rubber pads also have the effect of holding the keyboard in place. 

It took me a little "re-training" in some games (MMO & FPS) to get used to the speed.  OMG!!  The Speed!!!!  For some games & Programs, I actually toned down the Mouse Speed.

No more 'moving the mouse off the pad' screw-ups!!! 

LOVE IT!!!

Only downside- mine has started to pick up a "grit" movement.  Kinda like if I'm moving it over a grain of sand.  I checked.  Haven't seen anything out of the ordinary.  My thinking is, its one of the pads that is causing the 'grit' feeling.
